Hp Laserjet 1012 printing via Bonjour on 10.4.6

I recently upgraded my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6 and I couldn't find and install drivers for my hp LaserJet 1012 when connected through Airport Express. Printer is visible as a Bonjour printer. USB printing works just fine, so I assume the drivers are somehow installed. I was able to use my printer through AP Express when my PB was running 10.3.9.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Powerbook G4 12" Rev B   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, Kappy. Thanks for the response.
Actually, it's neither article.
The one I'm looking for appears at the bottom of a help page (Mac Help) when I do a search on "compatible printers". It's listed in the "Open this for me" sdection at the bottom of the help page and is entitled "Printers compatible with Mac OS X".
When I click on that link, I end up at a web page that says "Looking for something on the Mac OS X site? The page you tried was not found."
This whole exercise is turning into an absolute nightmare!!! The day before yesterday, following the suggestions in one of the Apple documents, I re-installed the HP drivers from the supplemental installations on the Tiger DVD.
I then deleted the printer in the System Preferences and re-created it.
When I tried to print, in OS X, it printed without a hitch! I then tried an application in the Classic environment and this also printed without a problem. I figured that my problem was solved and had been solved by the re-installation of the HP drivers. I left the printer on, as usual, shutdown the Mac, as usual, and went to bed.
Yesterday morning, I figured I would confirm that my problem was indeed solved; just before leaving for work, I turned the Mac on, and tried to print. Guess what? It wouldn't print at all. Nothing happens other than what I've been getting since installing 10.5.2: "Waiting for device", etc...
Next step: I'll partition one of my drives, re-install 10.4 from the original DVD and won't apply any upgrades. I won't migrate any users either but will just create a dummy user. This should allow me to print, since this setup had been running without any problems for a few years. Then I can always re=boot from that system whenever I want to print... But what a hassle!!!

  • Trying to add Canon MP500 printer via Bonjour; get Error -9672

I have my Airport Express hooked up to my Canon MP500 printer. My computer recognizes the Airport Express. I go to Print & Fax in System Preferences and try and add the printer via Bonjour - it stalls and then displays Error -9672. I have had this printer hooked up successfully before. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
A number of site online mention problems with different brand printers on intel macs. Some have correcedt the problem by downloading an older driver that that which came with the computer.

  • Will my hp Laserjet 1012 printer work with my new Mac Mini (OS 10.7, Lion)?

I finally have to upgrade from my Mac Mini OS 10.4.11 to a Mac Mini OX 10.7, and wonder if I have to buy all new peripherals, too.
    Here's what I have:
HP Laserjet 1012 black and white printer
    Proview 17-inch display, PL913s
Epson Perfection 4490 flatbed scanner. (I scan a lot of manuscript pages and must have a scanner with an adjustable top)
    Wired keyboard with numeric keypad
    Wired mouse
Yes, I know they're old, but they work fine!
    Thank you!

    Hello Fiona6,
I use iMac (Snow Lep) and 2011 Mini (Lion) and from both systems my results are:
Wired keyboard & mouse - work ok, I don't like or use wireless types.
My LaserJet 1010 - works ok (Your 1012 should also work, same series of printer).
If your display works ok now, cannot see why it would not work. My mini works with various vga and DVI displays I have at various times attached to it.
Don't know about your scanner though, with my all in one printer/scanner I have had to use OS X Image Capture program to scan. Might be worth a look at Epson's site to check on any software updates.
    Roy.
Edit: Regarding display if you are getting a new mini you will need a new display adapter, minidisplayport to vga or dvi, assuming your display is one of these. This can be plugged into the Thunderbolt port on the new Macs.

  • Connecting HP LaserJet P3015 printer (via Cat5e) to Extreme base

I've configured my network (thanks to the help of this forum):
Airport Extreme Base station (extended by Airport Express).
My laptops (connected wirelessly) run OS10.7.5.  I am using Airport Utility 6.3.1
I am attempting to configure an HP LaserJet P3015n (which apparently is part of the HP3010 series) via ethernet cable.  I've connected the ethernet cable from Airport Extreme to printer.
Previously, I had successfully configured the HP3015n via USB cable when my Airport Express was my "main" base station.
But now I'm unable, since configuring the Airport Extreme as my main base station and the printer via Cat5e cable, to get the HP3015n recognized via Print & Scan in the Sys Prefs or through the printer window (e.g. when you print a doc via MS Word).
I read this Apple Support Doc:  "OS X Mountain Lion: Set up an IP printer" (even though I'm using 10.7.5) to see if I could glean some info.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11478?viewlocale=en_US
    What I've done or noted:
    1) removed the old p3015n listing from that I had configured via USB in case something needs to be reset
    2) selected the 3015n printer (via the + sign) and tried to add software drivers for it.  I select the 3015n printer as the one listed "nearby" printer (and I wonder if that printer is coming up because it was previously configured on my network or if this is a "fresh" "sighting" by my network?  When I do attempt to download software for it, Apple at first reports that the software is avail but after what seems to be an attempted download, that it can't be installed.
    3) I note that the HP printer address (which I gleaned form the printer's LCD screen) is 10.0.1.9
    4) The driver appears to be named 3010 even though the printer is 3015.  Previously I had installed the 3010 driver and that is the name by which the printer has previously been recognized.
    5)  I was able to printer out some pages on the printer via the LCD screen with all kinds of info.  Including an "Embedded Jetdirect page," "Embedded Protocol page," and a "Configuration page."  My understanding from reading a few Apple Support Docs previously is that Jetdirect is among the ways that I can configure the printer.  So maybe that is one way?
Thanks for your time and insights!

Most older HP LaserJets must be assigned a new static IP address any time the router changed. Based on the excellent information in this thread and others, I compiled a complete protocol for doing this and in particular when using a newer (2013) Airport Extreme.  My printer is an HP LaserJet 4050N.
Connect the LaserJet to one of the Airport Extreme's ethernet LAN ports using a Cat5e cable.
    Open the Airport Utility
Click on the Icon of the base station to confirm the LAN IP address (usually 10.0.1.1).
Click the Edit button and then the Internet menu to display the Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.240.0).
    Close by clicking Cancel.
    On the LaserJet
Click the green ‘GO’ button until the display reads ‘Offline’
Click ‘MENU’ 7 times or until ‘EIO 2 JETDIRECT MENU’ shows
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘CFG NETWORK=NO *’ is displayed
Press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘YES’
    Press ‘SELECT’
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘CFG TCP/IP=NO*’ is displayed
Press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘YES’
    Press ‘SELECT’
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘BOOTP=NO’ is displayed (or press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘NO’ and then press ‘SELECT’)
    Press ‘ITEM’ button until
‘IP BYTE 1=XXX’ is displayed and where I have put ‘XXX’ using the ‘VALUE’ button enter the first number of the ‘IP’ address displayed in ‘Airport Utility’ (usually 10).
Repeat this procedure for ‘BYTE 2, 3 AND 4’ by using entering a value each time using the ‘VALUE’ button and then pressing ‘SELECT’ before finally moving onto the next ‘IP BYTE’ value using the ‘ITEM’ button.
After all of the ‘IP’ values have been entered pressing the ‘ITEM’ button will display ‘SM BYTE 1=XXX’ – this is the ‘Subnet Mask’ value. Follow the same process as for the ‘IP’ address and enter the values given in the ‘Ethernet’ pane in ‘Network’ under ‘System Preferences’.
After entering the final ‘Subnet Mask (SM)’ value (BYTE 4) press ‘SELECT’ and finally press the green ‘GO’ button.
Open System Preferences and click on "Print & Scan".
Click on the ‘+’ tab on the left of the ‘Printers’ Pane.
    Click on the ‘IP’ tab.
From the drop down 'Protocol' menu select 'Line Printer Daemon'.
In the Address field enter the ‘IP’ values that you entered in the printer except change the last digit (usually 1) to 100 (usually 10.0.1.100).  (The base station can manage more than 100 IP values and this ensures the first 99 other assigned IPs will not conflict.)
In the 'Print Using' menu choose a Driver/Model (if an appropriate one is not set automatically).
    Click ‘Add’.
Close the 'Print & Scan' window.
The Printer name will appear as the IP address you assigned in the 'Printer' pull down menu in the Print window of your applications. Select it to print to that printer.

  • LaserJet 1012 Prints half page

I'm trying to print a 5 x 8 page  (I've tried other custom sizes too, with the same result) from Word.  The HP LaserJet 1012 cuts the page about 2/3 of the way down.  This page will print from my other HP printers and from a Brother printer with no problems.  I've tried setting the 1012 to a setting of printing on 5 x 8 (it's already set that way in the page set up in Word), and on 8 1/2 x 11, and in both cases it cuts off the page.  What to do?

Okay, need a little more definition on the issue. When you say it prints 2/3 of the page, how exactly......does it only print 2/3 of the text when it reaches the bottom? or does it cut off 2/3 of the way down the page and leave 1/3 of the page blank? and are the borders looking normal at the same time? is it always text that is cut off or are pictures involved?

  • No printing via Bonjour from Windows

Windows PCs can't print via my Tiger server using Bonjour. The printers shared by the server are visible in the Bonjour add new printer wizard. When printing the jobs are sent from the Windows PCs without error messages. But nothing gets printed.
The same queues work fine from Macs.
Looked for the print server logs, but the only logs for the queues are for Appletalk, and they are empty. The server is set not to share any of the print queues via Appletalk.
Tried printing via SMB, but no luck there either.
Printing from Windows directly to the printers using Bonjour works.
Tested turning of the server firewall, but this did not help.
Any ideas waht could be wrong?

Since you can print directly to them from Windows via Bonjour I am wondering how you are sharing the printer from the server. My guess is that it is via 'Print & Fax' of System Preferences. If the printers support LPR, then I would suggest you configure the server printers this way. Go to Server Admin > Print > Settings and enable LPR and 'Show name in Bonjour'. This will give you more control over the printers.
If you have shared the printers this way and since SMB also fails, then I would ensure you haven't enabled print quotas for the queue. This can make jobs vanish.
Even if you are using 'Print & Fax' to share the printer, you still should be able to see the cups error log. In the Server Admin, select Print, then select Logs and then for the Show menu select error log. This is the same log for both methods of shared printers and this should give some clues as to why the Windows spool files are not printing.

  • How do I find the IP address of a wireless printer (via bonjour) on my Airport Extreme?

I can see the MAC address of my macbook and the printer using the AirPort Utility, but I can't find the actual IP. Attempting to connect through the printer utility puts:http://hp88388e.local./ in the URL, but the page just hangs. isn't there a numerical address associated with the printer? how can I find it?

Thanx for the help! It was not the problem, however. I fixed the issue. Here is what happened:
Because the HP D110 printer was set up manually with the previous UBEE wireless router cable modem, the printer's IP address stayed fixed at 192.168.0.238 even after I performed a "factory reset" through the touch-screen menu. bonjour is apparently able to "see" the printer, and even establish a physical layer of communication with the printer, but it is unable to transfer data to and from the printer. Thus, while the network detected and could establish a link, no tasks could be accomplished (i.e. ink levels, paper out, actual printing, etc). additionally, the link to go to the printer webpage was dead (that was my first clue).
I tried hooking it up via the USB port on the airport extreme, and it would work perfectly. After I set it up, it automatially printed a test page and I discovered that it was still 192.168.0.238 - even though the airport extreme had it listed in the logs as 10.0.1.3. I figured that was the problem, but I was still unable to log into the printer webpage to reset the IP on the printer side.
Because I was unable to force the airport extreme to assign the printer to the existing address, I had to keep playing around with the on-screen menu. Evenually I found that inside the wireless menu, there is an option to reset all wireless parameters, and once I did this, I deleted the printer and added it again from the print/fax utility. this time, it worked wirelessly, and the printer web page could be accessed.
As an aside, the apple interface to the print/scan/fax settings were far smoother, faster, and more intuative than the HP utilities written by HP on windows! Hope this helps anyone who is also stuck.

  • Airprint from iPhone to HP D110 printer via Bonjour and D-Link DIR-655 problem

I have searched the Dlink, Apple, and HP forums for answers.  Many people have had the problem.  Some have found solutions.  I have tried what I think are all the solutions presented.  However, Airprint works for about 2 minutes on iPhone after restarting the printer, but then goes away.
I tried setting up an Ad Hoc network on the printer with the iphone and it Airprints fine.  PCs, and the Mac print fine wirelessly.  But using Bonjour in Safari (on Mac or PC) shows the printer however clicking on it makes it disappear.  Using the printer’s ip address opens the printer’s setup menu on Mac and PC.
Bonjour appears to work for about 2 minutes, then goes away.  Noted that in one Help page on HP site, it said that to connect the printer to a Mac you had to do 2 operations within 2 minutes.  Maybe the printer outputs some Bonjour info for that long, but doesn’t respond to requests from other Bonjour devices?  Or are they being filtered by the router?
So wireless is working.  Bonjour is working iphone directly to printer.  Problem points to router setup.  All hardware has latest SW/FW.
Most of the forum postings are from 3 months to 1 year old – no new data.  Anybody have any other ideas to try?

Thanks for the feedback LilyLC. I too have gone through all of your steps and a host of others. Still with no luck. No problems at all with my Airport Express, but still no way to keep up a connection with my DIR-655 via WIFI N. I tried all of the steps with each firmware version too. I've given up at this point. I want the 2 months of my life back that I spent troubleshooting this mess. At least Apple could acknowledge this and say we are on it, and that it isn't only "in our heads."
    /begin rant/
I think that Apple needs to do some re-evaluating of their software release schedule/quality control. At this point I would rather wait and have them get it right then put out subpar updates and fall into the downward spiral pattern of "the rest of them". My confidence has been shaken and I've been a mac fan since the beginning. I just want Apple to split off the iPod/Phone/TV etc. into its own division and to get back on track with the Mac line starting now. We need this stuff to work to make a living and this takes a higher priority in my mind than new twiddle apps on the iPhone.
I do own two iPods and an iPhone but would chuck them in a river to get Leopard working solidly with the majors like Adobe, Extensis, Epson, as well as stable networking, syncing and backups. Apple really has their hands full at this point with a large list of bugs. I really wish them well but can't say I'm in the least bit happy as a consumer at this point. For the first time in a long time I feel sheepish when answering whether or not I'd recommend a Mac, and that hurts me deeply for some reason.

  • Printing via Bonjour stalls printer

I have an Epson CX6600 hanging off of my G4, and I can print from that with no problems.
I have a WinXP SP2 box, Bonjour installed, printer wizard run and my printer recognized and set up with no problems. However when I print, the job does indeed show up on the Epson printer queue on the G4, but the printer goes into "stopped" mode, and any further jobs from either machine just queue.
Hitting the "start" button in the G4 printer utility causes it to think for a few seconds but stay stopped. The only way I can restart it is to delete the PC jobs from the queue, and then hit the start button.
I've tried printing from a bunch of different PC applications - same result every time.
    Any ideas anyone?

Try uninstalling Bonjour for windows, reinstall using the most recent version: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows103.html
Then re-add the printer using the Bonjour Wizard, selecting the generic printer driver that Bonjour recommends.

  • Printing via Bonjour to Windows printer

Can I use Bonjour to print from a Mac to a shared printer that is USB connected to a Windows Vista PC? If so could someone kindly point me in the right direction as to how to do it please.
I set up a Bonjour printer on the Windows PC and printer properties tell me this printer isn't suitable for sharing. This seems a rather bad start! Next when I try and add this printer to the Mac there is no Bonjour option in Snow Leopard's System Preferences > Print & Fax > Add Printer.
Any advice will be gratefully received. Thank you very much.

Hi Irbrenda I remember you from http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10331377#10331377 not a million years ago!
The Printfab driver works a treat for me - it's just I don't want to buy it. I am presently using a trial version which expires in 30 days after which I either cough up 49 Euros or it will deface all my print outs with "pay up you measly creature you know it's worth every penny." Actually I'm not sure what 49 Euros comes to in £'s (or even US$'s for that matter) but it's more than I want to spend on a printer that I thought would seamlessly network out of the box.
The man on the phone at Canon said they "don't support cross platform drivers, particularly for a model that has no pretence of network capability, try Bonjour mate". However I'm beginning to think Bonjour is not going to crack it as I think it works for Windows printing to Mac printers and not the other way round. This new post was to see if anyone would correct or confirm this.
So my choices would seem to be:
Transport print jobs from Mac to Windows on a memory stick or network them across and then print them with Windows - an inelegant solution to engage in personal perambulation of this sort in the 21st century.
Give Printfab 49 Euros - painful to contemplate, I'm a frugal kind of guy.
Maybe try a USB print server from eBay - ditto the frugal guy story.
Slash my wrists - nah, life is sweet really. Yes Irbrenda, don't forget that, life is sweet, don't self harm re this or even trash your machinery.
Unless, of course someone out there has another idea maybe involving Bonjour.

  • Hp Laserjet 1012 Printer will not print

All of a sudden, my printer will not work. Maybe it has to do with the new Canon scanner I just bought and installed(?).
Anyways, did the usual (deleted all printers, downloaded and installed updated driver, added printer (verified on System Profiler), rebooted both Mac and Printer but no go.
Attempts to print then after 15 seconds or so "stops" in the queue.
I'm stumped because I can get the printer to work on my other Mac.
In advance, thanks for your input.

I would take a reconditioned product over a new replacement any day.  The reconditioned product has been verified to have a problem, taken apart by a technician, verified the defective part, replaced defective part (which will never fail again) and put back together and tested more extensively than a new unit.  New unit... put together by an assembly person, press self test and ship it out.

  • HP Laserjet 1010 & Wireless printing via Airport USB - Not working in SL

    Hi There,
After just upgrading to Snow Leopard on my MacBook I tried printing wirelessly to my HP Printer, but no luck!
    Printer: HP Laserjet 1010
Connected via: Airport with USB cable
Snow Leopard recognises the printer and is fine to print when the printer is connected directly to the MacBook via USB cable, but:
When I set up wireless printing, it finds the printer (via Bonjour) but simply will not print. The print monitor gets to 24% or so of the file processed and then just stops & fails.
Everything was fine under 10.5 Leopard. It seems it should work, but no printing occurs! Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Paul

    I had a similar-sounding problem with my HP1012.
    The fix:
    a. power-cycled the Airport Extreme.
    b. Updated firmware.
    c. Select Print in an application.
For an extended discussion of what I did see here - some of this may help:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2142906&tstart=60
Actually, at this point I have two printers connected: Airport Extreme ->USB powered hub ->2 printers. One is the HP1012, the other is an HP 4300 series inkjet. Took sometime to get it right, the first hub I tried apparently was not powered enough. In that vein, one earlier thread (a response to one of my posts) pointed out the possibility that the AE -> printer USB connection might not be adequately powered, and to try using an intermediate hub. Assuming your AE is performing properly in all other respects, don't rule out a cable or other printer connection issue even if the setup was working properly before.

  • HP LaserJet 1012 Error -9672

I can't add an HP LaserJet 1012 printer to my printer list on my new 10.4 MacBook. I followed the HP online directions to Reset Printing System, and the printer shows up on the Printer Browser (via USB), but I'm getting the following: Error:-9672. HP said it was an Apple issue. Any suggestions?

    goatmale229,
Uninstall the HP software that came with your printer using the HP uninstaller. From the hard drive, click Applications, then click HP and select HP Uninstaller. The uninstaller will open. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the product.
From the hard drive, click Applications, then click Utilities and select the Printer Setup utility.
    Click Add.
If your printer shows up in the printer list, select Printer. If the printer does not show up in the list, choose either Bonjour or Rendezvous as the connection type and then select the printer from the list. Under the Print Using list, select HP. In the list of available drivers, select the HP Laserjet 1200 driver OR the HP Laserjet 1200– Gimp-Print driver OR Generic for the printer driver.
    Click Add
    Now try to print

  • Can no longer print via AirPort Extreme

I am unable to print via my AirPort Extreme. I have a LaserJet 1320 that prints fine when directly connected to my MacBook Pro, but when plugged into the AE, it does not. I am able to see and add the printer via Bonjour, but when a document is sent to the printer an exclamation mark shows up over the printer icon and the queue stops.
When I run Network Diagnostics the following message results:
Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet but not to the server "hp LaserJet 1320 series.pdl-datastream.tcp.local.". This could be caused by problems with the server, or an Internet problem between this computer and the server.
This printer was printing fine via AirPort up until about a week or two ago. Is this related to the recent AirPort update?

Anyone else noticing that this problem seems to be reoccurring. I've gone through the process of restarting the Aiport Extreme about once a month since I got it. Everything will be working fine, and then one day, it simply stops. Restarting the base station gets things back on track, for a while, at least.
Seems to me to be a firmware problem on the base station, since it's repeatable. Sad to see others are having the problem, but I'm glad I saw this thread since I had convinced myself it was the printer and was about to replace it ...
