I see by your post that the printer is printing distorted characters. Thanks for providing the screen shot. I can help you.
It looks like a issue with the toner or possible a hardware issue with the printer or fuser.
Inspect the toner cartridge for damage:
1. Remove the toner cartridge from the product and verify that the sealing tape has been removed.
2. Check the memory chip for damage.
3. Examine the surface of the imaging drum on the bottom of the toner cartridge.
CAUTION: Do not touch the roller (imaging drum) on the bottom of the cartridge.
Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print-quality problems.
4. If you see any scratches, fingerprints, toner on the drum or other damage on the imaging drum, replace the toner.
5. If the imaging drum does not appear to be damaged, rock the toner cartridge gently several times and reinstall it. Print a few pages to see if the problem has resolved.
I have provided a document for cleaning inside the printer and running a cleaning page, resetting the printer and checking the driver settings. Resolving Print Quality Issues.
Try printing a document again.
Let me know the results.
What kind of paper are you using?
Try another type of paper to see if you have the same results.
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
What is the toner level?

i want to download hp lasejet1020 plus driver for windows 98 ,on hp site win98 operating system are not available on list.
Please send me driver on my email,because still i am using win98 for some necessary work which are not supported on upper verson.

I did some research and found at one point Win 98, Win ME, and Win 2000 all used the same driver for this printer (atleast from what i could ascertain). Given that information, I would assume that the current available Win 2000 driver MAY work for Win 98 (can't be certain as I do not have a Laserjet 1020 plus to test this). It can only be serviced in the country where it was originally sold. Take it back to the US or send it to someone you know there to take it in for service.

Yes, if the screen is not cracked, this will be handled by Warranty. Cracked screen is Out of Warranty repair, and for iPhone 5 this will cost $229. For either, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

Hi, I am having OS Window 8. I am able to print thru HP 1020 PLUS MS Word docs but not able to print MS Excel sheets as Laserjet printer does not appear in printers list. While setting it as default printer devices, i am getting error message "operation could not be completed (error 0X00000709). Plz guide.........

Hi Bhupender,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having issues setting the printer as the default printer and you can't print from Excel spreedsheets.
I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
I would set up a new Admin user account on the computer to see if this will allow you to set the printer as the default.
Go to start->type change PC settings and press enter. In the opening page, on the left pane, navigate to Users and click it. On the right pane, scroll below, where there is an option Add new user. Click it. Select the appropriate account type and type the username. A new local user account will be created.
Try printing from Excel again.
If you are still having issues then I would do a full uninstall and download and install the Full Feature Software drivers.
The driver might have become corrupted.
Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP LaserJet 1020 Printer Drivers.
Select your operating system, click next and click on the software to download and install.

Cannot load printer driver -- direct USB to HP Laserjet 1020. OSX finds the printer, but "Print Using" will not accept the driver. I downloaded from HP, installed the DMG and PKG. Things looks OK, but Print Using: won't accept the driver. Please help !

Sorry for the long title -- I am new to this forum.
This should be SIMPLE -- just trying to get old Mac G4 desktop to print on directly attached (USB) HP Laserjet 1020.
Several online sources say the HP drivers for Laserjet 1022 work fine ...
I deleted all printers, installed the HP drivers (all prompts indicate it is installed fine), re-connected the printer by USB. OSX recognizes the printer and auto-populates its name in the Name: box, puts "desktop" in the Location: field ... and the Print Using: field is gray, saying "Please select a driver or printer model"
I click the arrow to expand options, choose Other ... and get a selection box for identifying the driver. I open the folder with the PKG file and click it ... and then find myself back at the printer setup with the the Print Using: field still gray, and still saying "Please select a driver or printer model."
I have tried this process a half-dozen times with re-starts in between --- cannot get past this sticking point -- aargh !
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you !

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

I have a tower running windows XP, using Firefox 3.6.23. I have a new laptop running windows 7. I have just downloaded firefox 7. Now I want to bring the bookmarks form my old tower computer using firefox 3.6.23 to the new laptop using firefox 7.0. I got the instruction on how to sync the two computers, but I cannot find the sync tab under options in the firefox 3.6.23 computer. Will upgrading the tower's firefox to a newer version give me the sync tab under options?

With firefox 3.6 I think you may have had to use sync as a separate add-on. If so try finding and installing that. Alternativly export your bookmarks from Firefox 3.6, then move that file, using any suitable method (eg removable media, email atacchment, computer network) to somewhere the new laptop can access it and imprt the bookmarks. Remember
* back up your bookmarks (on both machines) before doing anything
* importing standard firefox bookmarks overwwrites existing bookmarks
* (if you just have a few bookmarks on one machine, consider exporting as HTML, when you import those they will append, instead of overwriting the existing files)

not sure if I understood your question well but here is some thought:
we can't change the input tray margin and paper has to be placed on center and both gude should be adjusted properly. however if you want to set any margin on output, you can set margin on application.

You may try the following workaround and check if tha may work:
Download and install the following package:
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your Mac.
Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
Click the plus sign and select the printer.
Click the Use menu and then click on Select Software.
Select the HP Laserjet 1022 from the list and click on Add.
Now try printing using the added Print Queue.

My best recommendation is to contact or reach out to Linux. I am sure this is not what you hoped to hear, but I thought it would be better to refer you then to leave you wondering!
You might also find the follow Linux driver helpful. I am not 100% certain as the driver is not provided to you by HP, it can be found on the Linux Imaging and Printing Web site; Driver Support for Linux OS.

Try deleting them from the Print & Scan System Pref, and the re-add them.
If that doesn't help, reset the Printing System by ctrl-clicking in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
You'll then have to re-add the printers.
