  • LaserJet 1020 won't print first document after powering up

My LaserJet 1020 won't print the first document it receives after powering-up. Print manager shows that the document is being sent, the printer makes noise like it's getting ready to print, but the document is never printed and I don't receive an error messages. If I send the document again the document prints as does every document there after.
I'm using Windows Vista Professional and the printer is connected via USB 2.0.

    Hi jnickelsen,
I understand the printer won't print multiple copies.
    Thank you for your reply.
I will be happy to help you with this.
This printer doesn't have the Mopier settings.
    What drivers are you using?
Did you download the drivers or are you using the Windows preinstalled drivers?
If you are using the Windows preinstalled drivers then I would download the latest drivers. Here is the URL for the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
I would download and run the Print and Scan Doctor since it might resolve the issue automatically.

  • Cannot print to HP LaserJet 1020 after installing Reader XI 11.0.03

After installing the Acrobat Reader 11.0.3 update, I cannot print to my old, reliable HP LaserJet 1020 from Acrobat Reader and many other applications at all. Am using Win 7 64-bit.  Also have Acrobat 7 Standard and PDF-Xchange 4.0, both of which have become semi-broken after installing the Acrobat Reader 11.0.3 update as well.

One of the things I have experienced in the past with printing PDFs is that it would hang in the print queue.  There is a manual method of deleting the print documents in the print queue.  But the issue is printing PDF documents that are scanned in and has maybe highlighted text or handwritten notes on the PDF.  The printer driver can render it correctly if printing the PDF as a text document.  What you have to do is change it so that it prints as a PDF image instead.
To print as an image, open the PDF then click File then click Print.  Click the Advanced button on the following window that pops up and select the check box "Print as image".
Now to clear your print queue will be key prior to doing this if the print job is hung in the print queue.
Here is a Microsoft KB Article that explains how to do this.  I think it has an available Microsoft Fixit tool you can use as well.

  • What happened to the printer driver for the HP Laserjet 1020?

After installing HP Printer Driver Update v1.1.1 for Mac OS X 10.5.3 my HP Laserjet 1020 no longer works. When I sent a print command from any software it seemed to work properly, but nothing printed. The information in printer utility window indicated that the printer was ready and there were no items in the queue.
I removed the printer and attempted to reinstall with the updated driver. However, there is no driver for the 1020 in the driver selection menu, despite the fact that it is listed as one of the drivers included in the update.
Can anyone suggest where I can obtain the appropriate driver?

greg sahli: I followed your suggestion to reset the printing system and re-install the driver update. While there is indeed a Receipt for the 1022 Series pkg, the driver does not appear in the drop down menu. The drivers closest to the 1020 that appear are 1010, 1012, 1015, and 1100. None of these drivers work.
I did find an 80% solution at Macosxhints. I will make do with this until the new OS X system comes out. If it has the 1020 or 1022 driver that works with my printer I would probably buy it. However, if it does not and the fix from Macosxhints doesn't work with Snow Leopard I'll be hard pressed to justify an upgrade until my printer dies.
Anyone interested can find it at the following url, if it is still active (there are no spaces in the url):

  • HP LaserJet 1020 Printer - booklet printing (Operating System Windows XP)

We were using above option earlier in HP Laserjet 1020 Printer. Presently, the printer is not responding to this option. We tried to reinstall several times using the driver software supplied with the printer but this particular option did not work. Rest of the normal functions of the printer is performing satisfactorily. Please advice us how to sort out this issue.
More Details:Earlier, after complete printing the pages to be printed on one side, the printer will pause and the button will show red and blink. Also, while pausing, the monitor used to display "how to keep the bunch of papers already printd to be kept in the lower tray for printing on the backside of the sheets". Presently, the first phase is happening, ie., printing the bunch of papers on one side and the printer pasuses. Afterwards, the blinking of the red light, display on the monitor depicting how to keep the sheets in the lower tray for continuing the balance of the print is not appearing. Since there is no indication or response we are forced to "end task", and come out of the situation.
    With regards and best wishes

    Hi
You can try running the following utility at the link below. It sounds like a network issue since you are able to print fine when you give the users admin rights.

  • Airport Express Base Station and HP Laserjet 1020 printer connected

    Dear all,
I have a Laptop (PC) Sony Vaio PCG-Z1XSP and an Airport Express Base Station which work perfectly together (internet access and I-tunes). I recently bought a printer HP Laserjet 1020 and connected it to the Airport Express USB soket. I managed to make it work and print a couple of times, but as soon as I turn off the printer or the computer or Airport Express, the next time I want to print, it doesn't work anymore.
The Airport Admin Utility recognises the printer (I can see it listed). I have updated the Airport Express software to the Firmware version 6.3 as well as downloaded the latest driver available on HP's website for my printer. I've also substituted the USB cable. Can anybody help me here? Thank you very much and best regards.

    Hallo everybody,
Thanks for all the answers. I have contacted HP's chat online and gone through the problem with 3 different technicians. I've tried a lot myself too. The issue was partially solved by restarting the printer spooler, i.e. stop, then start and then restart it.
However after I was so happy that the printer worked, I turn off everything. When I turn on again, it was not working anymore. Then I tried to see by exclusion what the problem is, I had to restart the Hardwar I don't know how many times.
    Conclusion:
    1. The USB cable must be plugged into the airport express before turning on anything.
    2. Turn on the printer first.
    3. Turn on the airport express and the computer.
    4. If you try to print it doesn't work, even if you reset the airport express through the airport express utility software. The printer is recognized and appears in it though.
    5. Disconnect the USB cable from the airport express and connect it to the PC directly.
    6. Print a document.
    7. Disconnect the cable and reconnect it to the airport express.
    8. Now you should be able to print wireless. You may need to reset the airport expresst with the utility softwar, but I managed to print without having to do it.
    9. The pörinter works even if you turn off and on again the computer, or you suspend the windows session and restart it, or if you put it in standby and restart it.
    10. The printer works even if you turn off the airport express and the computer, or the airport express alone and restart them/it.
    11. The printer doens't work anymore if you turn it off and onn again. In such a case you have to plug in/out as discribeb above.
Solution: Leave the printer always on, or make the plug in/out every morning when you start the computer and print one page direclty before being able to print wireless.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I mean it prints, but it is annoying to plug in/out every day, no?
HP's technician says that it is not a recommanded solution the HP Laserjet 1020 with the airport express, since the printer works on a host based server basis... I mean it is easy to say that, but one expects to buy a printer that works always and not to have to plug in/out everyday, restart spooler and so on.
Can anybody comment or suggest anything I can do to avoid this? Thank you and I hope this helps others too.

  • LaserJet 1020 Windows 7 x64 driver not working!

Hello. I have problem. I have recently installed Windows 7 x64, and when I tried to install driver for my LaserJet 1020 from this site, an error appeared.
First, when I launched the driver installer, I agreed with license agreement and proceeded. Than, loading bar appeared, it came to 3 division sticks in it and text above was like "Preinstalling the driver files". Then, suddenly, for a split-second "Copying files to the hard drive." text appeared, than again "Preinstalling the driver...", and it appeared again for less than a second, and again, and again... Than, after a few times, it just crushed, with Windows message "Printer Software Installer" is not working".
And one more: in Program Files -> HP folder there are lots of driver files (which seem not to be working) and another HP folder with same file and HP folder in it... Recursion of some kind, I think.
So, what should I do? I can't use my printer for a long time because of this driver!
I'm haven't spoken English for a while, so, if I explained something strange, ask, I'll try to explain better =)

  • How do i get my laserjet 1020 to print from my mac? the 1020/1022 driver won't download!

I followed the instructions on the HP website to download the latest printer software. But when I try to add my printer to the queue manually, it asks me to select a driver to use with it, and neither the 1020 nor the 1022 software is in there! There's tons of other printer software, and I tried a couple other drivers, but they don't work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Paul,
As the Laserjet 1020 not officeially supported by the OS, you will need to download and install the HP Printer Drivers 2.11 package which include the Laserjet 1022 drivers, those should allow you printing using your device.
Install the package by following the Download below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
After completing the installation go to System Preferences > Print & Scan and click the Plus sign,
Select the listed printer and click the Print Using drop-down.
click Select Printer Software and then select the Laserjet 1022 which should be available now.
Complet adding the printer and try printing now.

  • How to install (not update) my HP LaserJet 1020/1022 on Mountain Lion

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to install my HP LaserJet 1020 on my new Mountain Lion anyway I'm not able to find any driver! The specific HP web page says that I can "update" this printer using the Apple Software Update anyway I don't see any update or installation on it.
With previous version of the OS was possible to download a .dmg for HP LaserJet 1022. I tried to download and install the driver for Snow Leopard anyway I don't see any entry when I try to select a driver for my printer during the installation phase (the list contain only two very generic drivers for HP printers).
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
The Laserjet 1020 officialy not compatible with Mountain Lion, however you may try using the following workaround:
Install the HP Printer Drivers 2.9 package by clicking the Download button below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
After completing the installation, go to System PReferences > Print & Fax.
Click the Plus sign and select the printer.
If you still see a Generic driver selected, click the Use drop-down and then click Select Printer Software.
From the list, select the HP Laserjet 1022 and add the printer.
Now try printing using the configured print queue.

  • How can I determine how many pages my Laserjet 1020 printer has printed in its lifetime?

I am trying to be proactive in determining whether I need to plan to replace my Laserjet 1020 printer.  I know that I have seen printouts from resellers/refurbishers which show the number of pages that a printer has printed in its lifetime.  I am just trying to figure out how to get this information from my printer so that I can see how much life it has left.  Can anyone tell me how to generate this report?
    Thanks!!

  • My iMac Not Working With My HP Laserjet 1020 Printer

    Hello Everyone,
Ok here is the problem my HP LaserJet 1020 has been working fine up until i upgraded to Snow Leopard i am currently running (10.6.2) and i have had heaps of issues with Snow Leopard i just don't know whats wrong with it i thought it was supposed to be Finely Tuned. Anyway back on topic so i put in my HP LaserJet 1020 Disc install some stuff and then i go to Add a new printer via System Preferences and it either Freeze when i click Ok or i have to Quit the process and Add a new printer again, guys i just cant seem to get my HP LaserJet 1020 and i really need it working i run a website and i need to pint things of for documentation this is really doubting that i buy a Mac and a printer dose not even work on it i mean in the Snow Leopard manual it says Printer Driver Updates i thought it meant it would be much easier and simpler but no its all back to the hard ways.
Anyways guys if there is anyone that can help me get my HP LaserJet 1020 to work it would be much appreciated because i havent had much errors or issues with Mac in the past until now this sudden upgrade to Snow Leopard.
    Current Operating System:
    Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.2
    iMac 4 Inch/ 500GB HDD/ 4GB RAM /2.93 GHz
Thanks Your Help Would Be Very Much Appreciated

    Hi maxskingsley,
If you are still unable to print from your iMac, the first thing to check wouId be that the printer and the iMac are on the same network.
Now if both devices are on the same network, next I would suggest an uninstall, and reinstall of the software for the printer. To start, I have included the document 'Uninstalling the Printer Software' http://bit.ly/1amRotF. Please click on your operating system, and follow through the steps.
When the software is uninstalled, you will need to reset the printing system of your Mac. I have included the document 'OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system' http://bit.ly/1bS2qrh. At this point you do not have to re-add the printer. After resetting the print system on the Mac, the next step will be to complete a verify and repair of the disk permissions. I have included the document 'Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions' http://bit.ly/1bjFnnP. For step 3, the disk that you do want to select is the hard drive. One the repair of the disk permissions is complete, please restart your Mac.
At this point you will need to reinstall the software for your printer. I have included a link to download the 'HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X 10.9 Mavericks' http://bit.ly/1lC0Orf. After the download has completed, please open the software, and follow through the on screen instruction for installing the printer.
The last step will be to make sure that you have all the latest updates from Apple. Please click on the Apple icon, and then Software Update. Please install all available updates.
Now please try to print from the iMac. Are you able to print successfully?
    Regards.

  • HP Laserjet 1020 connected to Airport Express - Can't Print from Windows XP

    Hi,
I have been using Airport Express for almost a year now, and it works fine with my old LaserJet 1200 connected to it, meaning that BOTH my ThinkPad(WinXP) and PowerBook(OSX 10.3) prints off the printer nicely. Last week I bought a LaserJet 1020 to replace the old printer. Now I can only print off my Mac, and not the ThinkPad.
    Here are some additional information:
    - Airport Express has been updated with latest updates.
    - Using newest printer driver available from the HP website.
    - New printer works when connected to ThinkPad via USB.
    - New printer works when connected to Airport Express and printing performed using my PowerBook.
Therefore, My conclusion is that Airport Express and Printer is working just fine, and that it's just my ThinkPad not being configured correctly. (Although at the back of my head I am guessing that just MAYBE it's the Airport Express not accepting a different printer)
This is what I did to install the printer from my ThinkPad to work with Airport Express (which is not working):
    1. Add a printer
    2. Local printer attached to computer (no auto detect)
    3. Selected existing TCP/IP port 10.0.1.1
    4. Selected my new printer driver
    5. Finish
I also tried a few things like:
    - Deleting the TCP/IP port and creating it again before installing the new printer again.
    - Off both airport express and printer and on again after about 10sec.Airport was on first, and after the LED turn green, printer was turned on and USB plugged into airport.
    - Restarting my ThinkPad.
I have tried everything that I can think of, and nothing worked... hence this posting to get professional help.

    Hi,
You might want to download and install bonjour for windows to your Thinkpad it is how I got my roomates XP laptop to print on AX.

  • [SOLVED] HP LaserJet 1020 Installation impossible... yet

By following Arch wiki instructions, I've installed CUPS, and related packages for my printer. I've configured CUPS (Adding user to lp group and setting SystemGroup root lp) and restarted it. First, I've tried to install drivers using hp-setup method. There was a python related problem, so I've found solution for this with these commands
    cd /tmp
    ln -s /usr/bin/python2.7 python
    PATH=/tmp:$PATH
    export PATH
Then I've tried to install again using command

I've also tried to install foo2zjs drivers manually and from AUR, added udev rules, added "rmmod usblp" to /etc/rc.local, followed this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CU … erJet_1020 instructions several times, rebooted my computer dozen times, but printer remains silent. In best case I've managed to install driver (foo2zjs) through CUPS web interface, but printer doesn't print and I get a message "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed". I've tried fix for this on this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS page, but it doesn't work.

  • Laserjet 1020 printer doesn't work through airport express. PLEASE help me

Hi everyone. I've just bought a laserjet 1020, and though I can perfectly "see" it through the airport admin utility, there is no way to have a page printed. Works perfectly when connect it to the laptop through usb though. I have already tried every iFelix solutions, changed drivers (HP 1022, etc.), bonjour for windows, manual configurations, etc. Is there something else out there that I didn't figure out? Please help me. I'm in one of those moments where there are no more ways left to check out in google. I will really appreciate any advice.
    Regards,
    Martin.

There are issues with regard to HP and Apples.
I take it that your Laserjet is plugged into the XP computer and that you are tryiny to print to it over a network.
    Try this:
Go to System Preferences> click on "+" to "Add Printer", at the next page click on "More printers", this should then bring up a box with the name of your network in it. It will then show the name of your Apple and that of the PC into which the LAN cable from the router is plugged, click on this PC and the next box should throw up the name of the printer, click on this, then DON"T click on ADD but on the slot with "Generic" showing, you can then scroll down the list to Laserjet, click on that and find the "Gimp" version of the driver with your printer's model number, this is the one you should ADD.
Now this may work first time, unlikely given Apple's track record of network printing foul ups; you may have it print only a 1/4 page. If this happens, try "ADDing" a driver from higher up the Laserjet range; this is what I had to do to get my Canon iP3000 to work (I use the iP8000 driver with reasonable success)
There are also CUPS+GIMP drivers in the list; with the Canon these just printed a 1/4 page of solid black, nice for the ink manufacturers, but expensive for us!
The Gimp drivers are a third party product, 2 years out of date, and for which Apple accept no responsibility.
