  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

    Hi topgunner,
How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • Problems Connecting Computer & Printer Via Wireless

I've recently just bought a HP Deskjet 2544 printer. I've installed the printer as per all the instructions, however when i tried to install this via the wireless it could not find the computer even though it was connected to the wireless in the house. Because of this problem, I was able to install via the USB cable.
Since installing I can print only via the USB cable. I've went back and tried to connect the computer and the printer via wireless and everything is telling me they are connected (i've ran a systems report and all the lights are on, on the printer), however I keep getting the same messafe "unable to connect to your computer".
Any ideas how to fix this, so that I can print wirelessley?
    Thanks

  • Laserjet 200 will print via wireless direct but intermittently (once) via wireless network

Tried various troubleshooters on Hp and Apple websites to get this working consistently.
Installed new drivers for OSX Yosemite 10.10 - thought all would work fine as went through installing, printing test page etc.  Then printer becomes unavailable - although it is on the list of printers.
Same thing has happened variuos times after re-installing it.
Will print directly via USB and wireless direct - but I want to print via the wireless network.
tried all the usual things - making sure on the right wireless network, restarting everything etc.
Using an airport router - are there some settings on this that may be causing an issue - odd though as will print once when initially connected to the wireless network.
    Any ideas?

    Hi @iphonebore,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Laserjet 200 M267NW will not stay connected to your wireless network running Mac OS X 10.10. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
    Please see the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the HP Printer Will Not Print. (Follow the steps for Mac OS X 10.7, and 10.8, as they will work on 10.10.)
Printer Does Not Maintain a Wireless Connection. (This will help you with maintaining the wireless connection.)
As well, please see this post, Incoming and Outgoing Printer Ports, by @VisionAiry, and verify that none of these ports are being blocked by your router.

  • Laptop printing via wireless to HP Laserjet M1217nfw without a wireless router.

I want to print from a laptop via wireless to a HP Laserjet M1217nfw.
The location means that there is no wireless router involved.
The manual suggests that there are two possible methods if no wireless router is available.
The first one is an ad-hoc or peer-to-peer network as described on page 9 and 10 of the supplied User Guide.
I appreciate that one laptop does not make a network so I configured two laptops to connect over an ad-hoc network with all security turned off to make things as simple as possible.
Both laptops have APIPA addresses and are connected.
I then tried installing the printer via USB and also via CD and the printer cannot detect the ad-hoc network.
In the configuration page the Communication Mode is set to Infrastructure and cannot be changed.
Also there is the issue of how the printer can get an IP address as it does not seem possible to provide one for the wireless manually.
I am starting to wonder if the manual in incorrect and the ad-hoc connectivity is not available.
The second option might be to use the Direct Print Configuration although this is more for smartphones I believe. I have briefly tried this method but the supplied driver from the CD cannot detect the printer. Perhaps a special driver is needed.
Having spent a considerable time on this I am beginning to wonder should I give up and send the printer back or is it actually possible to get this to work in the manner that I need.
    Thanks for any help.

Do you have the ad-hoc network hosted by one of the computers?  It sounds like you are trying to add the printer to an ad-hoc network.
Newer printers (not certain when this changed) do not support the printer connecting to a hosted ad-hoc network on a computer.  Sorry.
However, the computers should be able to connect to the printer's ad-hoc network for printing purposes.  On the computers, there should be a network SSID that has HP in the name (possibly print, printer model, or setup).  If you connect to this network, the printer should be able to be added to the computers.  However, the computers may not communicate with each other as the printer isn't really intended to connect multiple devices to each other.
You mentioned page 9 and 10 of the manual.  I reviewed page 9 and 10 of the manual and it did not mention anything about any network settings.  This came much later in the manual I had found for the M1217nfw.  Is the manual I linked the same manual you have?

  • Connecting HP LaserJet P3015 printer (via Cat5e) to Extreme base

I've configured my network (thanks to the help of this forum):
Airport Extreme Base station (extended by Airport Express).
My laptops (connected wirelessly) run OS10.7.5.  I am using Airport Utility 6.3.1
I am attempting to configure an HP LaserJet P3015n (which apparently is part of the HP3010 series) via ethernet cable.  I've connected the ethernet cable from Airport Extreme to printer.
Previously, I had successfully configured the HP3015n via USB cable when my Airport Express was my "main" base station.
But now I'm unable, since configuring the Airport Extreme as my main base station and the printer via Cat5e cable, to get the HP3015n recognized via Print & Scan in the Sys Prefs or through the printer window (e.g. when you print a doc via MS Word).
I read this Apple Support Doc:  "OS X Mountain Lion: Set up an IP printer" (even though I'm using 10.7.5) to see if I could glean some info.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11478?viewlocale=en_US
    What I've done or noted:
    1) removed the old p3015n listing from that I had configured via USB in case something needs to be reset
    2) selected the 3015n printer (via the + sign) and tried to add software drivers for it.  I select the 3015n printer as the one listed "nearby" printer (and I wonder if that printer is coming up because it was previously configured on my network or if this is a "fresh" "sighting" by my network?  When I do attempt to download software for it, Apple at first reports that the software is avail but after what seems to be an attempted download, that it can't be installed.
    3) I note that the HP printer address (which I gleaned form the printer's LCD screen) is 10.0.1.9
    4) The driver appears to be named 3010 even though the printer is 3015.  Previously I had installed the 3010 driver and that is the name by which the printer has previously been recognized.
    5)  I was able to printer out some pages on the printer via the LCD screen with all kinds of info.  Including an "Embedded Jetdirect page," "Embedded Protocol page," and a "Configuration page."  My understanding from reading a few Apple Support Docs previously is that Jetdirect is among the ways that I can configure the printer.  So maybe that is one way?
Thanks for your time and insights!

Most older HP LaserJets must be assigned a new static IP address any time the router changed. Based on the excellent information in this thread and others, I compiled a complete protocol for doing this and in particular when using a newer (2013) Airport Extreme.  My printer is an HP LaserJet 4050N.
Connect the LaserJet to one of the Airport Extreme's ethernet LAN ports using a Cat5e cable.
    Open the Airport Utility
Click on the Icon of the base station to confirm the LAN IP address (usually 10.0.1.1).
Click the Edit button and then the Internet menu to display the Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.240.0).
    Close by clicking Cancel.
    On the LaserJet
Click the green ‘GO’ button until the display reads ‘Offline’
Click ‘MENU’ 7 times or until ‘EIO 2 JETDIRECT MENU’ shows
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘CFG NETWORK=NO *’ is displayed
Press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘YES’
    Press ‘SELECT’
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘CFG TCP/IP=NO*’ is displayed
Press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘YES’
    Press ‘SELECT’
Press ‘ITEM’ button until ‘BOOTP=NO’ is displayed (or press ‘VALUE’ button until value reads ‘NO’ and then press ‘SELECT’)
    Press ‘ITEM’ button until
‘IP BYTE 1=XXX’ is displayed and where I have put ‘XXX’ using the ‘VALUE’ button enter the first number of the ‘IP’ address displayed in ‘Airport Utility’ (usually 10).
Repeat this procedure for ‘BYTE 2, 3 AND 4’ by using entering a value each time using the ‘VALUE’ button and then pressing ‘SELECT’ before finally moving onto the next ‘IP BYTE’ value using the ‘ITEM’ button.
After all of the ‘IP’ values have been entered pressing the ‘ITEM’ button will display ‘SM BYTE 1=XXX’ – this is the ‘Subnet Mask’ value. Follow the same process as for the ‘IP’ address and enter the values given in the ‘Ethernet’ pane in ‘Network’ under ‘System Preferences’.
After entering the final ‘Subnet Mask (SM)’ value (BYTE 4) press ‘SELECT’ and finally press the green ‘GO’ button.
Open System Preferences and click on "Print & Scan".
Click on the ‘+’ tab on the left of the ‘Printers’ Pane.
    Click on the ‘IP’ tab.
From the drop down 'Protocol' menu select 'Line Printer Daemon'.
In the Address field enter the ‘IP’ values that you entered in the printer except change the last digit (usually 1) to 100 (usually 10.0.1.100).  (The base station can manage more than 100 IP values and this ensures the first 99 other assigned IPs will not conflict.)
In the 'Print Using' menu choose a Driver/Model (if an appropriate one is not set automatically).
    Click ‘Add’.
Close the 'Print & Scan' window.
The Printer name will appear as the IP address you assigned in the 'Printer' pull down menu in the Print window of your applications. Select it to print to that printer.

  • MG8120 Wi-Fi connects (Uverse). PC connects. Unable to print via wireless.??????

The Printer will connect to the wireless (Uverese) router no problem. Same with my PC.  The problem is with printing in the wireless LAN mode.  I can plug in and print via USB, but that defeats the purpose.  I changed ISP recently and had a hard wired cable modem and a  wireless router that I plugged the printer into and printed via the connection from the PC to the router.  Now everything is wireless. The catch is the printer is one room and the modem is in another. The only way I am able to print is to hook up the PC to the printer, not why I purchased a Wi-Fi printer. Windows 8 by the way.
    Thanks

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • Connecting HP LaserJet P1102w printer to wireless network

I have been trying to connect my HP LaserJet P1102w printer to my wireless network for a couple days now. I put the disk in and follow the instructions. When I get to the part about plugging in the USB to the desktop computer and turning on the printer, and it says the USB isn't connected when it is (the printer is on). I don't know what to do.

    Hi @tripleaaz ,
I can help you with setting up the printer over the wireless network.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and the USB cable is connected directly to one of the back USB ports on the computer.
The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet.
Is the cable a 2.0 or 3.0 cable? How to determine whether a USB 3.0 device is operating at SuperSpeed?
Is the USB port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?
Follow these steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for any printer entries.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB mass storage device and USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected) right click and uninstall it. If you have any others with exclamation mark or other devices in the list, delete them also.
Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
Then click on Action, across the top of the window and scan for new hardware.
If the printer wasn't listed at all in the Device Manager, try another USB port on the computer and another USB cable.
Restart the computer and the printer also to see if the printer will be detected.
If the printer still isn't recognized, if you have another computer, connect the printer to it to see if it is recognized.
Just to rule out a USB port on the computer, USB cable or hardware issue with the USB port on the printer.
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Let me know how that goes and what the results were.
    Have a nice day!

  • Can't connect PC and Mac to print via wireless network

I have the HP Office Jet All-In-One 6500. I've never been able to get both my Mac and PC to print wirelessly.
First, Mac worked fine wirelessly, then had to print via ethernet for PC. Then that quit working for PC. So I uninstalled printer drivers on PC, reinstalled and it works great printing via the network.
However, now my Mac -- my main computer -- wont print. It spends hours "connecting....." MacBook running Leopard OS 10.5.8.
Why can't both computers access this printer over the same wireless network? Absolutely NO settings were changed on my Mac from the time it worked, until now. Only thing I did was get the PC to work.
I've tried turning the printer off and restarting.... didn't help.
I bought this wireless printer so that both computers could use 1 printer.... I don't want to have 2 printers for my little office! Please help HP!

First, please look on the label underneath the router and let us know the exact model and hardware version of the router. Also check which firmware you are running on the router at http://192.168.1.1/ and verify that you are actually running the most current firmware. You can find out which is the newest firmware on the downloads page of the linksys website.
Second, is it possible that you used the Mac before to connect directly to the internet without the router? In that case it could well be possible that the Mac is still doing so, connecting to the internet itself, bypassing the router and thus terminating whatever internet connection the router established before (which the PCs were using).
Third, after being kicked out, please check the following in a command prompt window on the PCs ("Run..." and enter "cmd"). "ping 192.168.1.1" you should still get replies.
Fourth, what is the IP address and gateway address which the Mac gets when getting online?

  • Can't load webpages via wireless lan

    Hi Guys,
Got a bit of a problem and was looking for some suggestions.
I've been using my 24" iMac via wireless (802.11g) for internet access for about the last year without any problems, but this week its giving me lot's of trouble.
    Here's the situation:
    - Connecting to a Netgear wireless router/adsl2+ modem.
    - I can connect to the WLAN ok but when I try to load a website in either Safari or Firefox, it looks like it is going to load but just stops and sits there indefinitely.
    - If I plug in a LAN cable it all works perfectly.
    - I can connect using my Vista laptop and it works fine.
    - I thought it might be a DNS issue, but I can open Terminal and ping websites successfully. I can also ftp to a few sites using the command line.
    - I've obviously tried rebooting the computer, router etc. I also tried disabling MAC address filtering and WPA.
So I'm kind of at a loss at the moment. I haven't installed or changed anything because I used it to browse the web a few days ago and didn't use it until this morning when I found this problem.
I haven't had much time to try anything else so I'll be troubleshooting more when I get home. Just wondered if anyone had some things I can try.
    Thanks heaps for you help.
    Cheers

Don't worry I figured it out. I seem to have jumped the gun in thinking that it was working via ethernet cable and not with the wireless because neither were working. I thought the ethernet was working but it had just cached google and a few other sites I think.
Ended up factory resetting the router and all is well.
    Thanks for looking.

  • Problem connecting laptop to printer via wireless connection

I installed my HP Photosmart D110 series and the printer is not detecting my wireless internet (which is a Verizon Wireless card) . I only know the basics when it comes to computers, internet, etc. Therefore, this might be a completely stupid question, but is it possible to connect only through my Verizon card or do I need to purchase a router as well?
When I print my Wireless Network Test Report from my printer it tells me that it's recommended to change my network name to make it unique? I have no idea how to do this. And is it even applicable here?
I would greatly appreciate some feedback here.Thank you!

    OK,
    1. On the printer: Setup > Network > Reset network Defaults
    2. On your PC, go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.  Look for a wireless network that starts with 'hp" or "HP".  Join it.  There is no password.  On the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.
    3. Now, in Start > Control Panel > Printers, Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.

  • Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

I have a home network consisting of a Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop running Windows XP SP3 and connecting to the router by wireless communication, My son's desktop gaming computer running Windows 7 and connecting to the router by Ethernet Cable, and my Gateway Computer running Vista and connecting to the router by Ethernet Cable.  The printer is connected to my computer by USB and the printer's wireless communications is turned on and connected to the router without any errors.  The router is a linksys E3000 and the Toshiba laptop connects to it with an excellent signal strength and can surf the internet with no problems.  The worst signal level I have seen on the printer wireless is level 2 out of 5 and is normally better.
When I try to print from the Toshiba wireless to the printer,  it will print the first page in less than 20 seconds and then stop.  I have waited for 20 minutes and it still did not print another page.  The printer display says "printing" and it will print a line every 10 minutes or so, but that is it.  Sometimes, it will print 2 pages very fast in the beginning, then not print any more for a long time.  I don't know how long it would actually take to finish printing because I get tired of waiting and cancel the print job ( I have waited for as long as 20 minutes though ).
When my son prints from his Windows 7 gaming computer, which is wired to the router, it is the same way.  The first page or two will print very fast, then he said he has waited for 10 minutes and it did not print any more.
When I print, the print speed is OK because I am using USB connections.  I spent 2.5 hours on the phone this afternoon with HP Technical Support ( in India I think ) and they adjusted the print spooler on the Toshiba, and other stuff, but said the problem was with the router.  They also said I should not call Cisco because they will deny that the problem is with the router.  I do know that I can shut down both wired computers so the only job the router has is the Toshiba laptop and it does not help at all.  The printing is just the same as when all 3 computers are up and running.
HP states that this printer will work at up to 300 feet wireless, and I am 25 feet from the router with the laptop when trying to print and the router is 25 feet from the printer and the laptop is about 35 feet from the printer.
We purchased the HP 6500 two weeks ago and my wife says "take it back to the store".  I like the printer and want to get it working, but if this is the best I can do then I guess it will go back to the store.
