HP Laserjet 1100 -no scanner, fax, copier..just basic b/w printer

Started getting about 1 inch grey line on front left border. Have changed toner cartridge no change. Have cleaned anything that looks like it could contribute, but nothing really dirty? Got any ideas? thanks

Greetings,
I'm sorry to hear your nearly 15 year old printer is squeaking so loudly.  I helped develop that printer and it’s always sad to hear that one is failing a customer.  I fear I won't be able to help you root cause the problem, but I’ll certainly try.  Here are some things to try::
1) Try installing a different toner cartridge.  Sometimes the drum / seals / etc can make a noise.
2) Try isolating the noise to a component in the printer.  Take a picture of the component and post it.
3) As I recall, the 5m printer has a replaceable fuser.  It’s possible that the gears / rollers are worn to the point of making noise.
4) Try searching the internet for solutions to squeaks of other LaserJet models such as the LaserJet 4, 4+, 4000, 4050
For instance, here’s a link you might try: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpl12433&prodTypeId=18972&pro...
Good luck!

I just hooked up my Canon MP830 printer/scanner/fax to my MAC and can print but can't scan.  Anyone out there know what to do with this?

Have you downloaded the approriate Snow Leopard drivers for that printer? Make sure you get the appropriate and latest MP Navigator, as you start scans from the computer, not the all-in-one.  Get them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp830#DriversAndSoftware

  • HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP will not copy or scan but does print

My HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP will not copy or scan but does print.  It does not matter if I use the ADF or the glass.  When copying or scanning I get a completey black page.  The light bar does move from one end of the printer glass to the other.  There are no connectivity issues as the printing function and the e-print function work fine.
    Thank you for your help

    Hi @akb3,
I understand that when you try to scan or copy, you are getting a black page. I can help you with this.
Please keep the scanner lid open and then press the copy button.
Check if the scanner bulb glows.
Check if the scanner moves freely across the glass.
If it does not try connecting the printer directly to the wall jack and try again.
Update the printer's firmware if the bulb glows and scanner moves freely. HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers.

    Hello erking,

  • Canon PIXMA MX310 (Scanner Fax Copier and Printer) bought at Apple Store

I've been on iMac for a week. Having problems getting print going. I share the above Canon attached to a Windows PC. From my iMac I can see the PC and share files, and I can also see the printer. From Sys Pref I run through the setup printer routine and set it as my printer but nothing prints. Since this exact model is not listed in the Canon printers on iMac I've been selecting random ones since they all have the same Gutenprint version. Originally I loaded the Canon software on the iMac and was going from there but then decided to put the printer on the PC and have since deleted the Canon folder on the iMac and loaded it on the XP machine. Same results. When setting up I get the Windows challenge for a valid account on the Windows PC. I've been selecting Guest since there is no account other than the compaq_owner account and that does not have a password. Anyway, I'm probably doing something dumb, have read appropriate parts of newly purchased books, perused lists, but this sure feels like wrestling with Windows machines as in the past. I hope this situation is familiar to others and I look forward to any advice you may have. Thank you.

I've been to so many lists, discussions and threads that I can't even remember if it was this site that led me to the answer or if I Googled it. In any event, K3bert.com had exactly the same problem described and there was a link to the correct CUPS + Gutenprint v5.0.2. It worked for me but I'm not sure I can, in a general sense, answer other problems with the solution I found for me. I have learned so far that you need CUPS and the type of connection between your printer and Windows machine is important. Other than that it was a crap shoot as to what would happen once I started Adding a Printer again. I fully expected to go another 3 days like this. Now I can go through the same experience to make sure my wife's Tiger, not Leopard, will be able to connect to the printer. Thanks to all who suggested a solution or path to enlightenment.

  • Expanding memory on HP LaserJet 1100

I installed a new memory card on my HP LaserJet 1100 (part # MXC7843A) and now can't get my printer to print.   I installed the card according to downloaded instructions from HP ("Installing DIMMs") and it seemed to go in just fine.  I tried reinstalling the printer software and rebooting the computer but still nothing.  The computer seems to be sending the page to print o.k.  All 3 lights on the control panel are blinking in unison.  According to the Quick Reference Guide, this means that "printer initialization is taking place".  Holding down the leftmost most light (the "go" button) doesn't do anything.

I had the same problem when I installed a brand new memory module C4137A which is 16 MB RAM. All lights are blinking. When I remove the memory it is fine again.
    Anyone with a solution?

  • HP LaserJet M1536dnf won't fax or copy from Automatic Document Feeder.

HP LaserJet M1536dnf - Put a fax to send in the ADF.  Display shows "Document Loaded"  Enter Phone # to send fax. Press "Start Fax".  ADF feeds fax through the scanner and display shows "Storing Fax: Page 1".  After page is scanned display changes to "Fax Job Added".  Machine then returns to "Ready" condition without sending fax.  If Fax is placed on flatbed and phone # is dialed, then "Start Fax" button is pressed, display shows "Fax from glass? >Yes". press "OK".  Display then shows "Load page 1 Press [OK]".  Display shows "Storing fax: Page 1".  Display then changes to "Another page? >Yes".  Then i press an arow next to the "OK" button to change Yes to No and then press "OK".  Display then shows "Dialing & phone number".  When connection is made, it sends the fax.  It goes through a similar scenario when attempting to copy from the ADF.  Load original in ADF and press "Start Copy".  ADF feeds original through scanner & display shows "Copying Page 1".
Machine then returns to "Ready" without feeding paper to print the copy.  If you copy from the glass it prints a copy.  This unit is used only as a stand alone fax & copier.  It is not connected to a PC.  PLEASE HELP!

    Dear X-23,
I'm sorry to report that your reset didn't correct my problem.  I tried that fix earlier today.  I'll have to see if I can connect it to a PC and try the download fix that you suggested.  I'll let you know if I'm successful.  I do thank you for your reply.

  • SAP faxing from all-in-one (printer/copier/scanner/fax) device

    Hi,
We have a all-in-one printer/copier/scanner/fax (Ricoh Aficio 3025) and would like to make use of it to send fax from SAP.
I know how to set it up as a printer.  But how should I go about setting it up to send fax?
    Can someone help?
    Thanks in advance.
Edited by: Sisab Nimda on Jan 8, 2009 2:38 PM

You can't just set it up as a fax... you need a fax server in order to send faxes  (I.E. Rightfax)... basically the way it works is that you create a node in SCOT for faxes and send the data to the fax server via SMTP and the fax server deliver the fax to your hardware.
    Check the SMTP guide,

  • Laserjet M 1530 MFP fax from pc not working

I installed the full driver for the Laserjet M1530 MFP on my Windows 8.1 PC and printing, copying, scanning and manual faxing (directly from the unit) all work fine.
This unit is connected to my PC via a USB cable, although I am connected to my company's network.
What I cannot do is fax from my PC, either a test page or a document from, say, Word.
I applied the IE11 fix, since I have Internet Explorer 11, and upgraded the firmware to the latest version, but still no luck.
The error message I get states that the unit is either off or disconnected, which it isn't.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi @gillesofi ,
I see that you are having issues sending faxes from the computer. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
I wasn't sure what fix you tried, but I see that you are using Internet explorer 11. It is possible that the shell interface of the HPsendfax app. uses the IE build. I know the HP Software Piggy Backs Internet Explorer. With the newer version of IE it could possible be interfering. Any version below IE 11 should be fine.
Make sure the USB cable is connected directly to the computer. (not a hub or docking station)
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus Software to make sure there isn't any interference.
Check to make sure the fax driver is installed. Access the Device Manager window.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?.How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
If the there are any yellow exclamation marks or unknown devices listed for the printer, right click and update the driver.
You might have to click the + marks to check each section. Sometimes it is listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Print Queues.
Was the fax listed in the Device Manager window?
    How was it listed?
Your welcome to send a screen shot if you like.
Try faxing again from the computer.
Have you tried faxing from the HP Toolbox Software? (error message)
You might have to uninstall the HP Software and reinstall it again.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Perform a clean boot on the computer. This will prevent most third-party programs from interfering with the software installation, since some third-party programs can provoke this issue. Here is some information on how to perform a clean boot: Performing a Clean Boot in Windows. Temporarily turn off any Antivirus software.
Download, save and run the newest software available. HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers.
Select your operating system, click next and click on the software to download and install.
    Try to fax again.
There is a FAX4Word plugin for Word. It allows easy print/merge to FAX machines. Other posters have used this as a substitute. This is just a work around till we can figure out why you are not able to fax from the software or third party software.
I have provided the steps for changing the settings in the ToolboxFX to receive faxes to this computer for future use, if you decide to do this. To turn it off you can do this from the printer's control panel, page 127. Laserjet M1536.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a wonderful day!

  • Scanner/Fax That Works?

Anyone want to suggest a laser scanner/fax machine/printer (all in one) that works in 10.6 - one that simply 1) will scan from a document feeder so that multi-pages can be made/saved into one PDF on any computer on the network and sent to clients (absolutely the most important feature); 2) one that will act as a simple old time Fax that plugs into the AT&T wall outlet so I can send and receive Fax's the old fashioned way (also important); and 3) that I can print from if my other network printer needs a breather? Must be something that is networkable (Airport) OR at worst - for scanning - something that I can plug into one iMac and access from others across the network (this last need is for scanning only - scans can be dragged and dropped to other computers if need be).
My HP Color LaserJet CM 2320 nf MFP is not going to do it for scanning with 10.6 and I need something that will work like a mule (HP support has no idea if or when a scan driver will be available for that device - and the dadgum thing is only 14 months old with a 3 year "CarePack").
Any product suggestions are most appreciated.

I am using the HP all-in one officejet pro L7780 without any problems. Here is a link to compatible hp products
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01664444&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=2512010
and here is a link to installing hp products on snow leopard
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=2512010
Since Snow Leopard includes the printer drivers with the OS I suspect that other manufacturers will have similar information and that the key to getting your printer to work is uninstalling the old 10.5 drivers and re-installing the new 10.6 drivers
    Hope this helps

  • [SOLVED] Can't get CUPS to add / detect HP Laserjet 1100 printer

I moved my computer downstairs... after a few weeks I decided to move my printer down and set it up. I had it working perfectly a few weeks ago before the move... however now I can't get CUPS to detect or add my printer. At first when I moved my printer downstairs the CUPS web interface had my previous setup still there and had my printer detected / added. However, printing jobs would just stay in the queue and never print. I did some googling and someone mention to remove the printer and re-add it. Well I tried to to that and got stuck on trying to re-add it. CUPS will not identify my printer now. Funny thing is I just now remember I had a similiar issue a few months back and I remembered now I fixed the queue issue just by unplugging the power to my printer and leaving it off for 5min then replugging it in. I have tried all the steps on the wiki and I can't seem to figure this one out. dmesg does output that it is detecting my printer. I have my printer hooked up via a mini parralel to USB cord. If you have any other questions for me please shoot
Unplugging and repluggin my printer gives me this msg in dmesg:
    usblp0: removed
usb 6-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 6-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 4 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x4348 pid 0x5584
hp-toolbox also does not detect any printers. I have tried restarting cupsd... Any help is appreciated... I need to get printing up ASAP since school has started.
lsusb output this amongst other things:
Bus 006 Device 004: ID 4348:5584 WinChipHead CH34x printer adapter cable
If it matters I am using XFCE as my DE... I also do not remember using the CUPS interface to intially add the printer... I do not exactly remember how I did it... but the web interface looked completely new to me and I am rather sure that is not how I initially went about doing it... perhaps I used some GUI frontend for it...
EDIT: After reading the forum descriptions closer... perhaps this should be moved to the Workstation section.

skottish wrote:I'm curious why you're using gutenprint drivers for a HP printer. hplip provides everything needed for HP printers.
Tell you the truth... I have no idea how to change it or what not... I didn't even add that manually... just rebooted my computer one day and it appeared there.
hpsetup does not detect my printer
system-config-printer gives me an error when I try and add a printer. I manually specify the location to file:/dev/usb/lp0 ... I scroll down find HP LaserJet 1100 and the recommended driver is hpjis 3.9.8. I select that and I get the following:
There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-not-possible'
EDIT: I am about ready to chunk to this printer out the window... I have been messing with this for about a week now and I just keep getting two steps forward and then three steps backwards.
The system-config-printer dialog looked familiar and I believe that when I intially was able to set up my printer and had it working upstairs I used that dialog to add my printer.
Some googling brought me to this ubuntu bug report
Your USB-to-parallel adapter does not pass through the printer ID. The device is recognized as printer, but there is no information about manufacturer and model. Therefore system-config-printer and hal-cups-utils automatically assign the text-only printer to the unknown device.
In general you have to run system-config-printer and manually choose manufacturer and model.
That you cannot print at all is a bug of the "hal" CUPS backend. See
    https://fedorahosted.org/hal-cups-utils/ticket/5
    Try to do the following:
    cupsctl FileDevice=yes
    lpadmin -p <your print queue name> -E -v file:/dev/usb/lp0
This is an ugly workaround which works if you have only one printer (the one with the adapter cable) on USB. Does it work for you?
Now the problem is that I can not add my printer via the system-config-printer. However, if I go the CUPS web interface and hit manage printers the driver is listed as the following:
    Driver:    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
Now I think that is my issue... I need to have it set to the correct driver... if I hit modify printer and select my Make/Model I get the following access error:
    401 Unauthorized
Enter your username and password or the root username and password to access this page. If you are using Kerberos authentication, make sure you have a valid Kerberos ticket.
However there is no prompt or I do not know where to enter this information to.

  • Problem with networking HP Laserjet 1100 with Leopard with new Intel iMac

I have an HP Laserjet 1100 that I have used with my old iMac running Panther. I had used the HPIJS drivers in the past with the HP Laserjet 5 driver selected. It worked flawlessly. I use IPP to connect to the printer via a printer server.
I have purchased a new iMac which is Intel based and runs Leopard. I am having a lot of trouble getting this printer to work with it. I went to the website referenced above and installed Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and then finally HPIJS. As I add the printer, it gave me the option to select an HP Laserjet 1100 printer (from the HPIJS set). When I add the IP address, it says it is valid. When I try to print, there is no response; the job just times out. I had the same problem with the Gutenprint driver that was installed with Leopard.
Finally, I tried the HP Laserjet 6 from the HPIJS driver set. It had the word "recommended" next to it which was intriguing. It too did not work.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Steve Kirchner

I'm afraid that Ghostscript, etc. are PPC only applications and any printer plug-ins they install will not work on an Intel Mac. You should uninstall all the third-party stuff you've installed for the printer, then only use the included printer driver installed by OS X unless HP has a universal binary driver compatible with OS X and Intel Macs. You might try using LPD rather than IPP for the printer.

  • HP Laserjet 1100 - print fails

    Hi
I have an OLD HP Laserjet 1100 which I used to be able to print from fine on my old XP (SP2) machine. I have recently set the printer up on a new laptop running XP (SP3) using a parallel to USB converter. It's using the same drivers. However, now, whenever I try print I get an immediate message saying "Print failed". Doesnt give me a reason. Just won't print!! If there is anyone out there who can help me I'd appreciate it!
    Regards,
    AEC
p.s. Buying a new printer is unfortunately not really an option.

Hi there.  This is funny, or sad really.  I have the exxact problem.  When it doesn't print it says this printer is not connected.
That just can't be.  What about firmware?  While nosing around the HP site I noticed it says firmware needs to be updated.
I'm not sure how to do this.
    Have a great day,

  • If you have an HP 4 Laserjet and a scanner-

If you have an HP 4 Laserjet and a scanner would you please, print and scan the PCL test page in 600 dpi?
I would like to print theREt pattern image of the PCL test page to see whether my current laser printer uses the right amount of toner. Could anyone with a Laserjet 4 post this file in tiff or pdf for me?
According to the service manual of the HP laserjet 4, your printer has to be configured on the control panel to print with 600 dpi otherwise this pattern won't be printed when you print the PCL test page.
Once you printed it, would you please, scan it with the same resolution (600 dpi) and post it for me?
(If anyone would like to know how can you use this image to see if the toner consumption is set correctly just let me know, I will explain it here, no problem.)

It appears as though the HP 4 Laserjet is a commercial Laserjet. It may be better to post in the commercial Laserjet forums.
