HP Laserjet 1200 - time to upgrade?

I've had this HP LaserJet 1200 for years. Works great except on PDFs and image files. It takes forever to print each page on a multiple PDF for example. I also have a low end HP Deskjet 6940 which prints immediately. I assume it's a memory issue and LaserJet just can't process fast enough. The Deskjet isn't good enough for best quality, and the LaserJet is, but unless printing from Word or Excel can take 10 to 20 minutes on a large PDF. Get a new printer?

Hi Carol,
SInce you have the computers on a network already do you have file and print sharing turned on for all of them?

Just installed a HP Color Laserjet CM2320nf MFP printer, at the same time I upgraded to Lion. It prints fine, but I cannot use the scan functions.  I downloaded the most recent driver! Any help would be appreciated.

HP says that the drivers for your all in one print/scanner are downloadable from apple. For the scanner to use preview. image capture or the scan icon from the print driver queue.  I don't know how old your HP is, but I know that the newer Os from apple don't support a lot of older printers. You might be able find a third party driver that could work.

  • Upgrading to Windows 8.1 and Laserjet 1200 becomes an unknown device

Here at work we still have some "old" printers working locally on some laptops.
Recently we performed an upgrade of all our 8.0 devices to 8.1.
After the upgrade none of the HP Laserjet 1200 printers is functioning.
In the device and printers pane the printer is marked as unkonw, drivers can't be found while using te troubleshooter.
When i search on the hp website, it is suggested to use HP Universal Drivers PCL6 or PS6. I downloaded them both, installed each one after the other followed up with a test. None of the drivers worked. When the installer suggests to connect the printer through USB (normaly it would open a plug&play wizard) nothing happens.
I removed the installations and followed the instruction of someone who claimed to have a working Laserjet1200 on a Win8.1 installation. He suggested to install te DOT4 drivers first, I took the driver from this (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=fp_109468_2&swEnvOid=4158) page. On that page it's said that the installation is compatible with an 8.1 installation, but when i try to run the .msi a pop-up warns me that it's only win8.0 supported.
So is there anyone who has a working Laserjet 1200 printer through USB on a Windows 8.1 installation?
And how did you realise that?
    Thanks in advance,
    M.

    Hi m0n0cl3,
I looked for the driver for your printer with Windows 8.1 using a USB connection and found this:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=58928&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158
It looks like Windows 8.1 should be compatible with your printer. Let me know if this solves your problem.

  • Que:  Lion upgrade -now HP Laserjet 1200 printer won't work.

Que:  Lion and now my HP Laserjet 1200 printer won't work.  I've downloaded the appropriate driver from the Apple site and it's not on HP's list of printers that won't work with Lion - any other suggestions?

My Laserjet 1200 works under Lion, so it is possible. I don't recall loading any special drivers for it to work, and HP doesn't have any Lion-specific drivers available.  In System Preferences, under Print and Scan, did you add the HP Laserjet 1200?

  • HP LaserJet 1200 printing problems

Ever since I upgraded to Tiger, my formerly trusty HP LaserJet 1200 takes up to 10-20 minutes to print a single PDF page (even a simple one), and 2) can't keep track of documents in the queue (if I send a second document while the first is printing, the first one cuts out without finishing).
I understand HP bundled the latest driver into Tiger, so no updated driver is available from HP. Although I installed the GimpPrint drivers, there appears to be no Gimp driver for the LaserJet 1200. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Update: I realised that my printer was attached to a USB hub. It's been that way since I bought it and has always used like that. Anyway, on the off-chance (and bearing in mind that I had actually shut down my computer for the first time in a year or so last week), I instead connected the printer directly to one of the USB ports of my iMac. It immediately appeared in the Print Utility list!
Sounds peculiar, but it seems that the problems was linked to a combination of a Tiger upgrade, the use of a USB hub, and the full shut down of the computer.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • HP LaserJet 1200 is connected to usb but Lion 10.7 doesn't recognize it?

I have downloaded and redownloaded software from Apple and HP and nothing makes Lion see the printer. I have unplugged and replugged, reset printing system numerous times over the last 6 months and still it will not see the printer.
I have called HP willing to pay to have them help me and they say they won't even sell me a service call on this problem.
Apple keeps saying go to HP or redownload the drivers (Been there done this 12 times at least) also check software updates. Keeps saying software up to date.
    Please someone help!!
    Alexandria

I have this printer and use it all the time in 10.7.2. Works fine, and I installed nothing extra from HP.
What I'd do: Make sure it's plugged in (showing single green light) and connected to the Mac. You can check connection by doing Apple menu > About This Mac, Overview tab, System Report... Under Hardware in the list at the left, under USB, should appear HP LaserJet 1200. If printer does not appear here, something's probably wrong in hardware (most likely printer, seeing how old these are).
If printer shows up, go to System Preferences, Print & Scan (under Hardware), then click the + sign at left and add the 1200; it should appear if recognized by system.
For drivers, Software Update will do any updates as long as the device is attached; no need at all to download separate files (and as I recall, the 1200 is in the list of supported devices for 10.7; I checked before upgrading).

  • Drivers for hp laserjet 1200 for windows 7 64 bit

Nothing seems to work to get printer working.

    Hey @Jskol ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you are having some issue making your HP Laserjet 1200 on windows 7 64 bit work.
Can you please elaborate on what it is that you are experiencing so that I am able to assist you properly? Is it new and not connecting right? Has it lost communication and is now not working? How is it connected to the computer?
Have a great day and a wonderful new year. Get back to me.

  • HP laserjet 1200 using windows7, cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter

HP laserjet 1200 using windows7. My computer has USB ports, but no parallel port, so the computer is cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter. Sometimes works fine, sometimes system states printer as ready, but will not print. Reboot hardware and on restart, I got one page to print. Next attempt to print puts the document in cue, but just sits there -- no error message. Finally, after multiple restarts, I got it to print (have no idea how), but now I had to print 20 pages one page at a time. It will not print more than one page, even if I select to print 20. Next time I start the computer I don't know if the printer will print. Do you need to use the same USB port each time, Or are the USB to parallel adapters undependable?
    This question was solved.

    Hey renradd!
Unfortunately, parallel to USB adapters can be undependable. Other than a new printer, I'm not sure what would provide you with a fix for this problem. You might try another adapter if you have one, but if that still doesn't work I would look into a printer that your computer could support.
    Hope this helps!
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • HP LaserJet 1200 Goes "Offline" and won't Print

I upgraded to Leopard 10.5, then 10.5.1 and my HP LaserJet 1200 will print until my G5 has slept, then the print queue says the printer is offline. I restart and it works again until the next sleep cycle. Anyone know a fix for this?

I think I found the problem. Leopard doesn't like my USB 2.0 PCI card. I had the same problem a while ago with an earlier version of OSX. It was resolved with an OS update. I wish I understood the value of having PCI slots on my G5, when even such a simple device as my USB card is rendered useless by a new operating system.

  • HP Laserjet 1200 -- to HP Pavilion P6243w

    Greetings,
I've had a wonderful experience with the HP Laserjet 1200 that I've had for a few years.  When I upgraded my desktop to the HP P6243w (Using Windows 7 64-bit OS), I hoped I would be able to find a paralllel to USB adapter to let it work with the networking built into Windows 7.  However, it seems that nowhere online nor brick and mortar store has such an adapter, as the HP parallel port is a proprietary part from what I can read.  Is this correct?  If so, where can I get an adapter for this part, since I don't really want to purchase another printer for a few hundred dollars while this one is still working exceptionally?
    Thanks

  • Laserjet 1200 and Win 7 - small sheet orientation problem

I am unable to get my HP Laserjet 1200 printer to work correctly with Windows 7 when printing a document narrower than 8.5x11.  The problem is that a 4x6 sheet is fed through the center of the printer but win7 wants to print as if the 4x6 sheet were fed through the left side of the printer.  Any suggestions are welcomed.  Thank you.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and now I am having trouble with my printer.  When I print "labels", the ink is faded for the first few, and then towards the end of the page it seems fine.
I looked for drivers to download for windows 7, but don't see them.
It's almost like a memory problem? Like it doesn't get all the graphics sent to the printer until halfway down the page.
I use this for my small business to make labels for my products.  Does anyone know how to help?  I tried to call HP, but they are closed, it told me to do the online chat, but that said it didn't recognize my printer.  HELP!
    Thanks

  • HP LaserJet 1200 Series- Spaces appearing in words of printed document

I have an HP LaserJet 1200 series printer.  All of a sudden blank spaces began appearing in the footnotes of a document.  For example, "supra" printed as "s upra" numerous times in a row, "in" printed as "i n", and "whether" printed as "whether r".  The spaces do not appear on the computer screen.  I just attached another printer and the spaces disappeared.  Is there a way to fix my HP LaserJet 1200 series printer?  Thanks for any help!

    Hello eaw,
The HP LaserJet 1200 is a commercial printer. For a better chance at finding a solution, I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support.

  • Can not print with HP LaserJet 6L since the upgrade to Mavericks.

Can not print with HP LaserJet 6L since the upgrade to Mavericks. Any alternative driver for this printer?

I have an HP LaserJet 5P and had the same problem. My LaserJet is connected to a D-Link ethernet print server, then to an Airport Express to support wireless printing.
As recommended in earlier posts, I first downloaded the Gutenprint HP drivers at Sourceforge, version 5.2.9 That did not work. Then found the reference to the Apple kb here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
Downloaded these drivers. When setting up the printer, I got the autoselect option for Generic Postscript Printer and used that. Printer worked, but printed out garbage. I then deleted the printer, and this time selected the HP LaserJet 5P CUPS + Gutenprint v.5.2.9 THAT WORKED! I don't know if was the combination of downloading the drivers from Sourceforge and the Apple kb, or just the Apple kb that solved the problem, but I'm glad this is now sorted.
I was a bit surprised when I hit this snag to begin with because the last upgrade I did from Lion to Mountain Lion, I did not have this issue. It was seamless.

  • Re-installed OS 10.5.8--hp laserjet 1200 no longer prints

    Hi,
Actually, it prints but the only thing it prints is:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: csq
    STACK:
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? My iMac recognizes my laserjet 1200 as well as my officejet 6210. But nothing prints except the message above.
Thanks for any help you can give.

similar problem with a brother cdn
upgrade from x4.11 to x5.8 and the printer drives seem to be "wacky"
ALSO; after downloading the "newest" drivers and installing & the system updater also "found new drivers" and installed them, the problem was actually worse.
And; in Print manager, created a new printer with driver, still no help, finally in desperation =
the FIX: to find the nearly dozen duplicate driver files (in both Library / printers & PPDs) and trashed them ALL, then re-installed the brother driver package and all is good again.

  • HP LaserJet 1200: Prints; creates EXTRA sheet with Offending Command: D

After every printing job is completed *an extra page is printed* with the following:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: D
    STACK:
How can I stop this *unnecessary waste of paper* every time I print something?
    Please help!

What does work is the following:
Set your printer to NOT use Appletalk (through your browser).
Delete your printer and install it again. If you don't see it in the list select IP printer and use the printer's IP address
Make sure you use a HP driver and not the Generic driver. I used a Gutenprint driver with success on a LaserJet 1200 with a JetDirect network adapter.
