HP LaserJet 1300 issues

I was working on an iMac and needed to hook up a HJ LJ 1300. When I hooked up the printer and plugged in the USB the computer stopped responding. The mouse and keyboard were "Locked". When I unplugged the USB cable they resumed to function normally (the OS didn't crash).
The printer has been tested and works on a windows machine with the same cable.
Is there such a thing as a non-Mac compatible USB cable?
I think the OS was 10.3.2.
Any thoughts?

I take it you tried other USB ports on your computer and the same thing happened? What Mac model do you have? Note on some Macs, there is one port that is underpowered and may have difficulty speaking to certain peripherals especially after having woken from sleep and before the next reboot.

Photoshop CS3 printing garbage characters on HP LaserJet 1300

After installing CS3, Photoshop prints garbage characters on my HP LaserJet 1300.
Yes, I have tried printing as ASCII, ASCII85, Binary and JPEG - nothing helps (plus the settings won't stick even after holding down Alt and clicking the Remember button).
The only way to print right now is to choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue, open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.
Any ideas?

tzw - I responded about this on another forum. I talked to technical support at Adobe about this exact issue about 2 months ago - can't print photoshop CS3 on any of my three HP printers. ( I have a HP1200, an HP 2550 and a HP photosmart 7660) (CS2 works fine) They worked with me for about an hour - called me back and worked some more, and then decided to send it up to the programmers (or engineers or whatever) The programmers called me and worked with me for another hour - trying different set-ups etc., but the conclusion by them was that this was a huge problem in that there were a lot of HP printers out there - that they were going to give this their top priority - and that there would be a fix for this soon. (I have yet to see a fix.)

Hp laserjet 1300 on windows 8.1 laptop

my new asus notebook w/ 64 bit win8.1 will not recognize/ auto install my HP laserjet 1300 ... I use the usb 2 port and the machine sees printer not as printer but "other devise" and nothing happens ... also the windows stuff does not have the 1300 on the list of printers from which to choose ...
I downloaded 8.1 drivers but they didn't do anything either ... I have deleted them ...
the printer and usb cable are good , they work fine on my xp machine
I was told by tech that this machine would auto install the hp 1300 when i connected with usb cable ...
help please ...thanks

Install Hp Laserjet 1300 shared printer on win 8.1 64 bit

I want to install Hp printer Laserjet 1300 pcl6 shared printer to Windows 8.1 64 bit . I have downloaded Driver from this link :

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

Laserjet 1300 printer installation

I got an old laserjet 1300 printer from a friend - no driver or manual included. Downloaded the driver from the hp website. My OS is Windows XP. This printer isn't listed for installation purposes. I reviewed the manual for compatible drivers, but didn't see anything that addressed that issue.
Anyone out there know of one or more printers whose drivers are compatible with Laserjet 1300?
This has a brand new ink cartridge, so I hate not to use it!

Light print output on HP LaserJet 1300

Just upgraded to an Intel iMac from a G5 iMac, and, coincidentally (or perhaps not), the pages that come out of my HP LaserJet 1300 are looking light. I bought a new HP printer cartridge and downloaded HP drivers from the Apple website, but I've still got the same issue. I don't know whether it's related to the new computer or not, but, at the moment, I'm stumped. It could be the printer itself, but the timing of the problem starting when I got the new computer makes me wonder whether there's a connection there.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I installed hp laserjet 1300 driver for win8.1 -32bit
first page is ok. but second page is free.. third and other pages or normally..
why the printer prints every second page free ?
How can we cancel it. ?

Unfortunately this printer is only USB capable. It was not built to be wireless. You would need a wireless printer to print wirelessly. I hope this helps.

Hp laserjet 1300 prints at glacial speed

I am running Adober reader 8.1.2 on Mac OS 10.4.11 (MacBook Pro) and I am experiencing long delays when trying to print with my hp laserjet 1300. never had the problem before. all other apps print fine. also have canon inkjet that works fine with adobe.
when i print the hp receives the command (green light flashes) and waits about a minute and a half before spitting out one page and then another minute or so for the next page and so on.
went through hp telephone support (twice) with them sending me a refurbished printer which behaves the same way. talked to Mac support as well. I don't want to pay $39 bucks to have adobe tell me there's nothing they can do!
Help! Anybody??

I have the same issue with my HP Laserjet 1300. Recently (last month) it has started to streak and put down too much black on th eleft side of the printed document. I have gone through the suggested cleaning steps in the LJ 1300 manual, wiht little improvement resulting. Are there other cleaning steps to try? Could the toner cartridge be at fault (it is not yet empty but is about two years or so old)? Any help appreciated. Can't use the printer now for any good document as it comes out looking bad!

I have few work-arounds which should resolve the issue ..
#1 >
Make sure the printer is ON.
Unplug the Power Cable from back of the Printer.
Unplug the USB cable from back of the Printer incase you have the printer connected with USB cable, else ignore this step.
Wait for 30 seconds.
Plugin the Power cord to the Printer,and wait until gets back to home screen.
plug in the USB cable to back of the Printer incase you have the printer connected with USB cable, else ignore this step
Now Try printing multiple pages.
#2 >
Click START > Device and Printer > Add a Printer > Add a local printer >
( if the printer is connected with USB )
Select "Use Existing Port " then Virtual USB from drop down , Click NEXT, in the Manufacturing list , select HP / Hewlett packard, and from the right pane , select Deskjet 6980 and complete the wizard
OR
( if printer is on Network, )
Click START > Device and Printer > Add a Printer > Add a local printer > Select "Create a New Port" > type in the Printer's IP address Click NEXT, in the Manufacturing list , select HP / Hewlett packard, and from the right pane , select Deskjet 6980 and complete the wizard
Now try printing from lotus and hopefully it should work.

HP Laserjet 1300 wireless printing?

Is my HP Laserjet 1300 capable of wireless printing? Could I purchase something that will convert the serial port. (My USB ports no longer work)

HP Laserjet 1300 began requiring "lpadmin" password to print. Formerly, no problem.

My HP Laserjet 1300 printer formerly printed with no problems. Suddenly, it began requiring "lpadmin password" before continuing to print. It does this regardless of the originating application (Word, Excel, Entourage, Adobe Acrobat). I have tried unplugging the printer and restarting my computer (MacBook Pro circa 2009 running OS 10.5.8) without success. I am wondering if the "lpadmin password" is a remnant from a prior user? I originally bought this printer as a surplus from a computer consultant who was upgrading a business's printers. Does anyone know how to circumvent/eliminate the "lpadmin password"? Thanks, Ken

HP Laserjet 1300

I have an HP Laserjet 1300 currently it prints but the quality is poor. The page prints with a lot of black background, like the roller is bad or the toner is smearing. Can you tell me which it is? If it is the roller where do I find it, and how do I replace it? If it is just the toner I will check to see when the last time
it was replaced was. As of now I do not know as I am new to the department.

I recently replaced my 2 Windows XP Media Center computers. I have a new Desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate and a Laptop that has Windows 7 Professional. I have an HP Laserjet 1300 printer that I would like to connect with my desktop. This printer still works. Keeping it would save me money.
