HP LaserJet 2100M - Can I Use w/New MacBook

I have a LaserJet 2100M postscript printer...it has a Mac Serial Printer port (I previously used it as local talk connection to my G3 PowerBook) and a Parallel Port. There is no USB port on the printer.
Can anyone give me an idea if I could use this printer with my brand new MacBook and how I need to set it up...for example, could I buy a parallel to USB printer cable? Or better yet, a Mac Serial to USB cable or switch. There are still current drivers for the printer so I would be all set once I could figure out how to actually connect it to the MacBook. If the cable switch route would work, will it still be able to print postscript...that is key.
I've looked into getting a JetDirect card for the printer, however because they are discontinued from HP, the only ones I can find are between $300 and $500. If I'm going to spend that much, I most likely would just buy a new printer. I don't trust the couple I've seen on ebay as they don't actually have HP marked on them.
I need some serious help with this. Thx! Kim

Get a USB-parallel adapter cable $10-30. Also install the alternate USB driver "usbtb:"

Yes it will print postscript.

  • Can I use a new macbook pro as an exclusively windows machine?

I use a Dell XPS M1710 right now for hard core numerical analysis.  Finite-element solving and the like.  I have had this machine for 4 years and it is showing its age finally.  So I am in the market for a new power laptop.  I think the 17 inch Macbook Pro with i7 and 8 GB  could be what I need.  It has an advantage over the newer Dell XPS in that the screen on the new Dell is only 1080 for some reason.
Now, on to my question.  I have not used apple in 12 years so my memory is a little fuzzy.  I know that there is a command key instead of a ctrl key, but does the command key work like a ctrl key when running windows on a mac?  Also, can I completely take off the apple OS and run only windows on the Macbook pro,  or will it not work without the apple OS?  Is there still no right click on the apple machine's mouse/pad?
Forgive my ignorance, but I want to know these things before I jump in.
Thanks for answering any or all of my questions.

    Short answer is yes.
You can easily erase the drive and install windows on the mac, using a windows install disc.
Still has control key, has option instead of alt, and command instead of windows (they are control alt and windows in windows).
And yes, the mbp has right click on the trackpad (clicking on the bottom right hand corner)

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro?
Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.
Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?
You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you?  If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose.

  • Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

  • How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod?

    Hey Guys
I need a bit of help.
My old computer died, it was running Windows XP. I've got myself a new computer running Windows 7.
I have a copy of my iTunes folders from my old computer (taken 2 days before it died)
How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod touch?
I've imported all the folders (music, apps etc) into the new computer's iTunes, but when I sync my iPod
I receive a window asking if i want to sync i need to erase and replace with the iTunes library on the computer.
I particularly don't want to do this.
My wife also uses my iTunes for her iPhone.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup. Then restore the iPod from that backup and sync as necessary.

  • I have a ipod classic which i purchased 2007,can i use the new apple tv dock to play my itunes video clips via my ipod classic to view on my tv

hi there, i have a ipod classic purchased in 2007,with the release of the new Apple TV dock in Australia,my question to anyone out there including apple suooort staff,CAN I USE THIS NEW DEVICE TO VIEW MY VIDEO CLIPS I DOWN LOADED FROM ITUNES ON MY TV INSTEAD OF BUYING THE APPLE COMPONANT CABLES....THANKS  EDWARD

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer.  How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

  • I purchased an album and didn't receive all of the cuts.  I have Itunes 9.2.1 so I can't use the new  "download past purchases" feature.  How do I get the rest of the songs?

I purchased an album and didn't receive all of the songs.  I have iTunes 9.2.1 so I can't use the new 'Downloading past purchases" feature. How do I get the other songs?  Using an Iphone 3Gs

Look under the Store menu in iTunes on your computer for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You may find the tracks there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department from their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form, or an "Email Us" button) and explain the problem to them.
    Regards.

My husband just bought me a new new iMac (yey!) but had assumed it would have a dvd drive (as you do).  It doesn't.  So can I use my old Macbook to upload cds and dvds and somehow import to my itunes on my new computer?

As long as your Macbook is up-to-date.  Go to system preferences>Internet and Wireless>Sharing>check mark CD/DVD sharing.

  • Can I use my new iphone 5 with the old iHome iD9SVC Speaker System if I get an apadter? or should i just buy new speaker system made specifically for the iphone5

can I use my new iphone 5 with my old iHome iD9SVC speaker system if I get an adapter? or should i just buy a new speaker system made specifically for the iphone 5?

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.

  • Can I use my new airport time capsule 3TB for my personal cloud

I am trying to get my own personal cloud. Can I use my new airport time capsule to accomplish this?

The Time Capsule stores data on its internal drive and not in the cloud. If you want it actually put in the cloud, it needs to be separately set up with a hosting or storage service.

  • Can I use my new IPad while it is charging

Can I use my New IPad while it is charging?

You can use the iPad while it's charging, however, it will take longer to fully charge.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
