HP Laserjet 2100TN - how to add IP printer in Snow Leopard

I am not a very technical person, so this was quite an ordeal for me.  I was very frustrated by the process and almost gave up.  I am glad that I did not
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and after many hours of reading blogs and instructions etc. I finally got my HP LaserJet 2100TN network printer to print in SnowLeopard.   I am running a 24" imac.
All of the blogs/support documents tell you that you have to enter the IP address of the printer to set up an IP printer.  To obtain the IP address for the printer, you are told to print a Configuration Page.  But I had no idea how to do that.  So I found a manual online for my printer, learned that if I pressed the Job Cancel and the Go button at the same time that I would print a configuration page.  And it did !!!!  It was listed under Printer Informations as HP JetSend Address: ip: 192.xx.x.xx. (I left out my IP address as yours will be different.)  I then used the Network application located under Utilities, went to PING, entered the IP address and I pinged the printer.  The ping was successful.  Then I used the instructions provided at the link below  to add the IP printer.  Here is the info for the add printer info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4507.
Here is the link for the LaserJet 2100 manual.

Good luck.

Many, many thanks. This worked for me.
My HP 2100TN is connected to a router and pinging the JetDirect ip address didn't work at first. After many tries and variations under "Print & Scan" sys prefs, the ping did work with the JetDirect ip address and I finished connecting by following your helpful instructions and links.
The HP 2100TN now prints from OSX 10.8.5 on a "late 2012" 27-inch iMac. The HP 2100TN printer drivers were copied to the sys printer folder from a previous computer running OSX 10.5.8 and which always printed sucessfully through this same router to the 2100TN and still does.
An even worse problem was trying to log into Apple Support Communities with the "username" endless runaround. I finally got to a "Find my Apple ID" link and discovered I had an old Apple ID which I didn't know still existed. I changed the password on that ID and then logged into ASC using the old ID. The login took me straight into the forum and displayed my old and long-forgotten ASC username for that ID. Why that worked, who knows?

Some printers require a firmware update from the manufacturer to enable the AirPrint feature. Check with HP for available updates for your printer model.

  • How can I go back to snow leopard my epson stylus Photo TX810FW does not work with Lion

My Epson Stylus Photo TX810FW printer does not work with Lion how do I go back to Snow Leopard?

Did you try removing the printer from the queue and then reinstalling it?
I attempted to print this morning for the first time after upgrading to Lion and discovered that while everything appeared normal on my Epson printer, it would never print.
I opened System Preference > Print & Scan and deleted the printer.
I then added the printer back and it now working again. Worth a shoot first I should think.
    Much easier the a downgrade.

  • I upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

i upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
    Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
    Or
    3- the App store

  • How to record the screen in snow leopard ?

how to record the screen in snow leopard ?

Must I find it myself !
Well you could try Google :-)
I am unsure if you want a static image, or a movie recording of what you are doing on your screen.
Images can be done using Command-Shift-3, Command-Shift-4, and Command-Shift-4-Space.
3rd party utilities such as Skitch will allow you to annotate the image after you capture it.
Making a movie of your screen activities can be done usng Applications -> Quicktime
There are 3rd party screen records such as Snapz Pro, ScreenSteps, etc...
And of course you can do a Google search.

  • How do I get my new Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade to be 10.6.8?

Earlier today I backed up my leopard (on my new external hard drive, $89.99) and installed my new Snow Leopard upgrade (purchased from Apple for $19.99). They sent me 10.6.3, however, it looks like I need 10.6.8 to get the new itunes which was my reason for upgrading in the first place. My son got the ipod touch 5th generation ($225) which requires the new itunes. How do I get my new Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade to be 10.6.8? The price tag is adding up quickly!

I have downloaded and installed from Apple the HP Drivers for Snow Leopard.
I have downloaded and installed from Apple the HP Drivers for Leopard.
    I have rebooted endlessly.
No drivers appear in printer set-up except for my Epson Perfection 1260 Photo Scanner.
Using HP Printer Utility does not recognize any print drivers I have installed in the past two days.
I tried using CUPS from the free source group and this printer is not supported in their list.
My printer worked perfectly in Leopard for printing receipts and memos.
    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    John R

Now it's been two weeks since I brought home a 27" iMac and realized that the iMac will not SEE my HP D1520 Deskjet printer any longer.
HP emphatically states that their website driver ffor my printer and for Snow Leopard works in their labs.
Apple emphatically states that the required driver for my HP printer is within the Snow Leopard installer.
And neither vendor will tell me why after repeated installs and uninstalls, and reboots, and permission/disk repair, changing USB cables out, WHY SNOW LEOPARD WILL NOT SEE MY PRINTER, but clearly sees my scanner and an Acrobat driver.
I had another unfortunate soul who's printer is unrecognizable by Snow Leopard to tell me they bought a new printer, and Snow Leopard saw the brand new printer. That's amazing, as my printer is less than a year old. So I guess I have to gamble and buy a new printer because apple upgrades the system and I can't install Leopard which worked perfectly with my printer.
Apple, you let me down, this time.

  • Why won't Lexmark T430 printer with Snow Leopard?

Lexmark T430 will not printer with Snow Leopard. Error Message: “The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance.”
The printer is connected via Ethernet from an iMac; I have an airport wireless network. Oddly, I can print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, but not from my desktop iMac. Both computers were upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time, but only the iMac refuses to print.
    Tried:
    -Reset printing system
-Downloaded Lexmark drivers and reinstalled them
-Connected printer directly to iMac instead of through the Ethernet switch
    -Repaired disk permissions
When ‘adding printer’ the Lexmark is recognized and configured, but it only results in the same tired error message.
    Suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hi,
A follow up on my previous report.
I installed 10.6 on an external USB drive and booted my iMac from there. Result: was able to print successfully to the T430, both via Ethernet and via USB cables. Previously, I also tried to print from the iMac (booted from the internal drive) via USB and that failed; although, as I said, I was able to print to a Canon printer. I conclude that there must be some conflict between the Lexmark drivers and something on my internal iMac hard drive.

  • I have Leopard 10.5.8. How can i download and install Snow Leopard or Lion? Thanks.

Currently, I have Leopard 10.5.8. How can i download and install Snow Leopard or Lion? Thanks for your help.

You need to *call* Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE, as Ralph already said.
But "since one week" sounds like a direct translation of French "il y a".  You should call your local country's Apple suuport and ask.

how far should I upgrade from snow leopard.  I just installed more RAM for a total of 4 GB.
    Thanks

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable USB Flash Drive – Diskmaker X
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion. Personal opinion, I'd stay with Snow Leopard rather than Lion.
