HP LaserJet 2420 'Print on both sides (manually)' is missing from the current Windows 7 PCL6

Dear Support,
I have a HP LaserJet 2420 printer connected to my home network and I would like to use it from my desktop PC (connected with cable to the network) and from my notebook (connected with wifi to the network). I use Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (EN) on both of them and I installed the current Win7 PCL6 (v5.7.0) driver downloaded from the official HP site.
I would like to print on both sides, but the 'print on both sides (manually)' option is missing from the 'Finishing' tab of the Printing preferences option.
If I turn to 'Installed' the 'Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)' under the 'Device Settings' tab of the Printer properties it doesn't work because this printer doesn't support the automatic print on both sides.
I don't want it work automatic only manual, but it is still missing. I have never experience it with much simple printer.
Please help to solve the problem! Thank you!
And what is the difference between the PCL5 and PCL6 and PostScript drivers?
Kind regards,
Szilárd Kurunczi

print on both sides of paper

    Hi,
Based on the following link, under "Paper-handling specifications", it does not have a duplexer:
       http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?prodSeriesId=4322968&objectID=c0305889...
It can't print both sided (or duplex) automatically.

  • HP Color Laserjet 2550n has no more printing on both sides

In 2005, I bought an HP Color Laserjet 2550n to go with my laptop.  I had no printer problems.  I loved the feature where I could print a document on both sides of the paper.  The option would show up on the properties menu on the print document dialog window.
Over the past summer, I lost my laptop to a crash and had to get a new laptop using Windows Vista OS.  I hooked up the printer using the USB port and all seemed good until I tried to print on both sides.  In the properties menu of the printing dialog box, the option has disappeared completely!  I tried updating the drivers - didn't fix it.  I tried reinstalling the software that came with the printer, but Windows Vista OS wouldn't accept it.  Help!  I don't know what else to do.  I appreciate any help.
I have also tried Bob_Headrick's advice on Vista Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide for "No option for two-sided printing."  The option appeared in the properties menu, but the printer still did not print properly.

Sorry guys................I answered my own question.
I went into the HP P2015 user guide & found the answer. on page 32.
I went into printer properties, device settings, noticed that duplex unit for printing on both sides was showing as "not installed". I changed this to "installed", and it worked.

  • Can't print both sides (manually) with Windows 7 but can with XP

My OfficeJet 5510 has "Print Both Sides" as an option on the "Finishing" tab, when I use it from the desktop running XP, which it's connected to with USB. That option doesn't appear anywhere when I try to print from my laptop running Windows 7, over a wireless network. This issue seems to be mentioned in many posts, but never seems to be answered. Is 2-sided printing (manually reinserting the pages) an option with Windows 7, or just with XP?

Hi  - The difference is that with XP, you're using the HP print driver and with Win7, you're using the Microsoft driver, since it doesn't look like HP made a "Full-featured" driver for the OJ5510, since Win7 came out well after the OJ5510 released.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you'll be able to manually print on both sides of the page unless the software app you're printing from offers a feature.  If the app doesn't have an option specifically for manual duplexing, you might be able to specify printing only odd numbered pages, then re-loading those pages and printing the even numbered pages.  Not a great workaround, but at least an option.
    Hope that helps.

I recently had my computers wiped clean.  Prior to that, when I attempted to print, and clicked on Properties, I would chose the Finishing tab and be able to print on both sides of the paper.  Now, the Finishing tab does not appear when I click on properties.  What do I need to do to get those options back?

  • HP LaserJet 2300dn Not Printing On Both Sides Anymore?

Hi,After upgrading to Windows 8.1 64Bit my laserjet has lost the abilty to print on both sides of the paper automatically. I assume it's something to do with the driver but am not sure.I have tried downloading different drivers from the support page but I don't know which one I'm suppose to be using  and whatever I do doesn't seem to work. Anyone who can suggest a solution, I would be most grateful. Thanks In Advance  DiGiTiSeD

Ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is): For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.Select the Device settings tab.Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed. You'll probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the device settings.

  • Our HP laserjet , model P2050 , does not print on both sides even though the " auto rotate " box is

checked.  Is there someway to cause the printer to print on both sides?  ( There is another printer box that  comes up in other  instances and it has a "Preferance" box which , when clicked on, gives a different way to choose  two-sided printing, and that one works to cause the printer to do as wanted.)
The  box that shows " auto rotate' doesn't have a print preview.

  • Printing on both sides

Hi, I have an HP laserjet P2015dn. In the past, to print on both sides all I had to do was check the box in "finishing", and it would print. Now, for the past month or so, when I go to print on both sides, it is telling me it has to be "manually".
I purchased and installed QuickbooksPro 2011. This printer problem occurred after I installed Quickbooks?? Could this be the problem? I had 2008 version of Quckbooks installed prior, nd never had a problem to print on bothsides. I don't think Quickboks is the problem, but if it isn't than how do I correct to "automatically print on both sides???
    Thanks for your input.

  • Using Brother printer, can't print on both sides.

I installed OS 10.5 and now my printer is giving me almost no options other than just to print, including no option to print on both sides. Please help! Thanks.

Thanks for providing that information Brisle .
The software is installed by the Apple Updates. Unfortunately the two-sided feature will not work properly on Yosemite.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet P1102w)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
I believe with Maverick and Yosemite, the software won't prompt you to flip the paper. The printer light will blink, if you open and close the cover though, it will continue to print. That is the only workaround at this time.
I will check into this further. The Manual Duplexing Only Prints on One Side. Disregard the operating system.

  • Cp3505 print on both sides

Is there an add-on to allow the color laserjet CP3505n to print on both sides?
    Thanks.

    Hi nova23,
I just checked the user manual for your printer:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00909731.pdf
According to the user manual, duplex printing (2 sided printing) is only available on HP Color LaserJet CP3505dn and CP3505x printers. Since yours is a CP3505n, it does not support duplex printing.
Also, for future reference, your printer is a commercial printer. By posting in the forum for HP Business Support you'd have a better chance at finding a solution.

  • How to print on both sides of paper

I have HP 3050A wireless printer. How to print on both sides of paper

This printer does not do auto duplexing. The only way to print on both sides of the page is to print one side, put the paper back in manually, and then print the next page. If you have something say 10 pages long, you can also print only odd pages, then only even pages tospeed it up.

  • Print issue: "Print on both sides..." checkbox not present in V10.1.2 under Win XP SP3

Since upgrading to Adobe Reader 10.1.2 (wish I never had), my "Print on both sides" option is evidently ON (by default), but I cannot turn it off because the check box to do so is not present in the Print dialog:
The checkbox should be underneath the "Choose papre source" box, but it's not. Hence the advice in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/928/cpsid_92870.html is useless. I have done a Control Panel > Programs > Change/repair, still the same problem. Also have tried Adobe Reader > Edit > Preferences > General > uncheck "Enable protected mode at start-up" (suggested in another thread), problem persists. (Re-enabled Protected mode).
    Using Win XP Pro SP3.
This is a real pain....every print job brings the dreaded "Print on both sides instructions", with wasted paper, prompting each page to print manually, etc.  I have seen this scenario reported by others...Adobe, please fix this!

    Hi Johann,
You printer driver doesn's support duplex printing, because of which you are not able to see that checkbox.
You can try the following to disable duplex printing through registry:
    1. Go to : Start-> Run-> type Regedit-> click OK.
    2. It open registry editior. Locate the registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\AVGeneral]
    3. Find the existing DWORD value which is named :
    "iDuplexMode"=dword:00000001".
    Set the value either as:
    1 = no duplex
0 (or key does not exist) = duplex

  • Photosmart C6280 not printing color/both sides with Mac

    Hello HP Community,
I have a Macbook Pro running iOS X 10.9.2 and a AIO Photosmart C6280. I am have downloaded the printing/scanning software and drivers. Everything installed without problem. I have also scanned with no problem. However, no matter what program I am trying to print from on my Macbook, the printer will not print in color and also will not print on both sides - even when the double sided feature is checked off.
I have been to all the discussion forums of relevance and can't find anyone with my same problem. Those that have similar problems, are running different versions of iOS and the steps suggested they take are not possible with this version. Please Help!

    Hello HP_USER,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're unable to print in color from you Mac 10.9.2. I will try to help you with this.
Have you tried making a color copy from the printer? If not please do so, this is to see if the printer is having the issue stand alone.
I would also recommend looking at these documents:
    Missing, Faded, or Dull Colors
    Wrong Colors
As for it not duplexing, according to the User's Guide, this printer doesn't duplex as in it doesn't have a duplexer. If you are manual duplexing that would be slightly different, as it requires you to be flipping the page after the first side has come out. This document can assist you with that: Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Manual Duplexing)
I hope this helps you out, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Print on both sides

Hi, why can't I figure out how to print on both sides, using one document?

Double-sided printing is a function of the printer driver if your printer supports double-sided printing. If your printer, like mine, only prints one side at a time, you can use the Paper Handling in the Print dialog box using Tiger. Click on the drop-down menu that says Copies & Pages & select Paper Handling then Page Order: Reverse & Print: Even numbered pages. For the second side, leave Page Order: Automatic & set Print: Odd numbered pages. If you use a printer that has a separate manual feed tray, you will need to change to that tray by selecting Paper Feed from the Copies & Pages drop-down & select the tray you will use. Whether the pages will need to be face up or face down & which edge should be fed first will vary depending on your printer.
