HP Laserjet 2600n - lost functions in recent update
Well HP did it again. HP posted an update that prevents users from using everyday functions on its printers. Do other people have this issue or is it just us?
I'll have to download the 10.5 drivers again to get this to work. It just doesn't make any sense why HP are repeatedly doing this.
Anyone have a fix that doesn't involve reloading old drivers?
Arborea, it looks like HP removed duplex printing from the PPD. Maybe talking to HP will help?

It seems that I have lost info. with the new update. I had a few recordings in Quick Voice. They are now gone. Most other apps will ask me if they can use my current location, etc. as if they are now new. Not sure why that happened. Any insight?

they show in my computer on the phone but if you want to sync it a box pops up and says that if you sink ringtones you will loose the music... anyone have a clue??

Has anyone else lost Garageband in Yosemite Update?
I recently seemed to have lost Garageband in recent update. Garageband came with ilife 09' when I purchased my macbook. It's something I always had and enjoyed using. Now all of a sudden it's gone along with iphoto and the rest of my ilife apps. Please help!
You can redownload it from your Purchases page of the App Store provided you first purchased it there. If not, then you can restore it from the DVD that came with your iLife boxed set.

HP 2600n Not Printing Correctly and Lost Functions
The 2600n has lost the following functions with the HP/Apple update based on my normal use. Note that all of these were functioning prior to update.
1. Double sided printing not selectable; no double sided printing available
2. Cannot print 2 pages on a single sheet in draft; result is a print that is unreadable
In addition to the above the menu for the print has been rearranged in a way that makes it less easy to use. For example there is now an extra step to select draft (600DPI).
+How do I get rid of the download and install of this update and revert back to the old version which worked+ (for me and others it now appears).Thank you to those who replied. I fixed this problem by deleting all the downloaded software and other software related material from the HD. I removed everything. I then proceeded to treat this as a new printer and used the HP site to download relevant software and driver for the 10.5 version. Contrary to popular opinion this printer will work on 10.6 - 10.6.3 using the 10.5 driver and software.
I did note that when setting up the printer in system preferences I had to select the previous version of the driver for HP. The update was still on the HD despite my (I think) thorough removal of all items HP (except scanner).
The printer is now functioning as before. I have complained to HP in two different formats who still say the printer is not supported by 10.6 despite it being clearly listed to the contrary. I also told them the new menu window was terrible. To no avail I'm sure but at least I informed them. As should others if they are having any problems.

Hello All, yesterday afternoon I just lost all recent updates to my iCal from the last days. How can this possibly happen ??? It may have occured after I chose the Refresh function after I had problems searching my iCal for a particular event. I think my iPhone was also not properly synched in the morning but I didn't pay it much attention and opened iCal on my MacBookAir instead.
How can I prevent this from happening again?
What can I do to restore iCal with the most recent updates?Random glitch. It doesn't matter; if you didn't backup the data, then you can't recover the data.
In the future, for any 'important' data, back up that data regularly. Forward the 'important' text messages to your email. Trasnfer your photos & videos to your computer, etcetera. -
Acrobat 8.1 Pro Recent Update Lost PDF Document Icon
Adobe Acrobat 8.1 on Windows Vista. With the update that came on 02/15/2008, after successful install, I no longer have any PDF document icons. All my PDF documents have the Windows generic icon and the files are not recognizeable as PDF documents. All PDF documents function normally. it's just the icons are missing. My .pdf file association is with Adobe Acrobat 8.1. Any way to get back my PDF icons on PDF files?
Same problem here, and, as in your case, it showed up only after the most recent Adobe update--in fact, I started a topic on this before you did. Maybe you didn't see it--nobody else has posted a reply, either.
The 2/18 reply-poster's FAQ link concerns file associations, but that's not the problem here; file associations are still correct. The problem is that what are called LIVE ICONS in Vista no longer work for PDF files. The 'preview handler' underlying functionality still seems to work--that is, if you have the PREVIEW PANE enabled in Windows Explorer you can still see an accurate, detailed thumb of the file. (You access the preview pane under Organize>Layout.)
But the smaller, quick-and-dirtier preview that should show if you have the folder view set to 'large icons' or 'extra large icons', and that should also show in the DETAILS PANE, if you have that enabled, is gone--only a generic Acrobat icon now shows.
In Vista, these live icons are automatically enabled on the desktop, at least if you have the 'aero' graphics turned on. Thus, if you drag a .jpg, .gif, or similar file onto your desktop, you now see a thumbnail instead of the generic icon you saw in previous Windows desktops. Up until last week's update, you also saw .pdf previews on the desktop. But no longer.
I have no better clue than you do about how to get them back. The preview handler designations in the Registry don't show any obvious problem, although the recent Adobe update may have made changes in there that I'm not aware of. (In the CLSID and CLASS keys, for instance.)
My guess would be that there's some changed .dll that didn't get registered properly, or have the right permissions assigned, in the recent update. But this is just a sheer guess. Given all the problems with Acrobat 8 I've seen in these forums, I'm not going to go blindly experimenting on CLSID/Class keys or dlls.
I can't find anything at Microsoft.com or the Microsoft KB about this either--just boilerplate promo for users or developers about how great their live icons are. But for what it's worth, Acrobat is not the only program that has trouble with Live Icons. Microsoft office 2007 live icons are just as screwed up as the PDF ones have become. In fact, they have been screwed up from the beginning!
Once in a great while an Excel 2007 .xlsx file sitting on the desktop will show its preview. But most of the time, just the generic icon shows. I have never managed to see a live icon for a Microsoft Word file. Only .jpgs and .gifs are completely reliable (so far, knock on wood).
Pretty lame.
By the way, there were also Windows Updates last week ('patch tuesday') and it is slightly possible that they had something to do with this lost functionality. But I don't think so. I can't spend all my time tracking & troubleshooting every update of everything, so I can't state this with 100% certainty, but I am PRETTY sure that the .pdf file live icon problem happened AFTER the last Adobe update and BEFORE the last Windows update.
I wish the Adobe Updater would have a convenient way of showing you which updates were installed when. Vista has this. -
I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup. Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore? The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings. They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with. Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts. This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...? Any help here would be greatly apprecaited. I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.
You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

When I recently updated to the newer version of FireFox, (version 3.6.13) the DownloadHelper add-on was lost, and it will now not re-install, though I have tried about 5 times?? When I clicked the icon to download the add-on the download progress bar indicated that the download was underway however, when it had completed, the add-on appeared not to have downloaded - including no icon - not even if I search for one. When I tried to download the same add-on again, the download window indicated the download in a faded color and it seemed to be indicating that I already had the add-on. Try as I might, I can't get it to work. DownloadHelper always worked with no trouble on the previous version of FireFox. Are you able to help? Many thanks for this service!
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button (Firefox 4: click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar) to do a compatibility check.
You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.

I have a question regarding my txt/alert tones. I recently updated my iPhone 5's software without first backing it up on iCloud or my computer (oops). After my phone finished updating, i lost the new ringtones and txt/alert tones i had bought. I connected my iPhone to my computer and sync'd it hoping that it could download my purchases from the itunes store and then put them back on to my phone but no such luck. When i look at my iphone on my computer and look at tones, they do not show up at all. However, if i click on the "On This iPhone" tab and click on "Tones" the deleted ringtones and altert tones show up...they are just grey'd out and have a dotted circle to the left of them. I also tried to go to the iTunes store on my phone and redownload them and it tells me that i have already purchased this ringtone and asks me if i want to buy it again. I press Cancel. I know when i do that with music it would usually let me redownload the song without buying it again but it wont let me with the ringtones...so how do i get them back? any help would be greatly appreicated

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

We recently updated to Lion, prior to this update we could plug in our Sony Mini DV camera using the appropriate firewire and the iMovie would recognize the camera. This function no longer works after the update to Lion. Any suggestions?

Hi, Im using an iPhone 4 8gb and recently updated my software using my computer to iOS 6.1.3 and some of the tabs are now grayed out and cant function (specific reference to "Show My Caller ID - On/Off tab"). is there a way to fix this or can i downgrade back to my default software?

Have you failed to regularly backup the device to iTunes or iCloud? If so, the data is gone.
If there are backups, restore the most current one from prior to the data disappearing. -
I recently updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1 and lost all of my contacts. My phone was less than 30 days old and I did not have an account with iCloud prior to the back-up. Any way to restore my contacts or are they lost forever?
I have the exact same problem. I did the update on my iPhone 5 yesterday, opted for the iCloud set up in the update and then it wiped my contacts. They are not on my phone or in the cloud...
