HP Laserjet 4 Firmware Update

I have a HP Laserjet 4 printer and I installed a JetDirect card on it but I don't have the MIO menu on it to setup TCPIP, so I figured I needed a firmware update.  But there is no firmware update listed on the hp website.  Does anyone have a firmware update for a HP Laserjet 4 printer that is later than 12/14/1992.  (Firmware Datecode:19921214)  Thanks!

Hi.  I too am looking for firmware for this printer "Laserjet 4" .  I have a much older firmware installed on mine.  You mentioned in your posting that you have one from 1992.  Do you mind sending me a copy?

  • HP LaserJet 1518ni - Firmware update doesn't do anything

    Hello folks
I am trying to update my HP LaserJet 1518ni to the latest Firmware (2013-11-08 , Version20130923, 4.22M).
My current firmware datecode is: 20120110
    I went here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3422472
    Downloaded the file CP1510_Series_FW_Update-20130923.exe
Turned Firewall and AntVirus OFF, ran the Executable with administrative priviliges - it says it found the printer and I see a progress bar and also the smiley at the end. But the printer is unimpressed and shows just "Ready" in the LCD, nothing changed: The files does simply nothing.
Tried it via IP Port and also USB on another PC, same effect.
    What is going wrong?
Where are the good old .RFU Files I just can TFTP to the printer...?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hello @TomPe , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing firmware issues. I'd like to help!
I would recommend performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then suggest downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Once you have run the doctor, try installing the firmware via this tool:
HP Color LaserJet Printer Firmware Update Utility
Also, can you print standalone?  I would recommend pressing the right arrow until you see reports, press OK, select diagnostics page, and press OK.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Hp Laserjet CP3525 Firmware update failure

I was trying to update the firmware on an HP color Laserjet CP3525 using a USB  connection using the instructions that were posted on the HP website for the Firmware upgrade.  It looked like everything was going well, but when the printer rebooted it never gets past the 6/6 screen on the LED screen.  I have left the printer in this condtion for several hours and it never gets past this area. I'm assuming that the Firmware upgrade caused the printer to do a hard crash and is not recoverable, but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help get this back up and working.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well, in general if the firmware update was interrupted for any reason it would lead to this. This could be caused on the computer side (restarting/logging out/ending the process before it is complete) or in the cord that you are connected with if it is damaged in any way or not properly secured in the USB ports.  I am sorry that you are in this situation, I understand that in a situation with limited spending caps you would have legitimate concerns about updating your other machines.

  • HP LaserJet P1102 firmware update freezes

HP LaserJet P1102w setup will not allow me to get the firmware update because it says I must complete all print jobs first. Only print job is the Test Page, which never printed at the end of the registration/install process.

    Hey @jmg616,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're having an issue running a firmware update to your HP Laserjet Pro P1102w. I would like to assist you with resolving this issue. However, I do have a few questions for your first before I can offer accurate support.
What Operating System are you using with your printer?
    What's my OS?
Is you printer connected through USB cable or Networked?
If you have a print job in your print queue, like your test page that failed to print after you ran the installation of your printer, than a firmware update won't go through. A firmware update is sent to the printer like a print job so you need to make sure that the queue is empty.
If you're using a Windows Operating System can I have you run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool? This tool will 'fix printing' issues for you and should it detect any driver or software conflicts it will identify and let you know what the issue is. The tool will also attempt to fix the issue for you.
    HP Print and Scan Doctor
Please let me know if the Print and Scan Doctor resolved your issue. Should you still be having problems than please respond with your Operating System and how your product is connected. Good luck!

  • No network connection after hp laserjet m602 firmware update

After updating firmware on our hp laserjet M602 printers, the printers are no longer communicating with our print server. I can't even print configuration pages, if the Network cable is connected.  The update completed successfully and I can print using a USB connection.  The Event Log displays the following:
    EVENT:           42.B0.01            Firmware:     23000331_377983
Description: Missing String ID: en-US: Please refer to the Jetdirect Admin Guide_Text
    Additional Notes:
Before firmware update:                                            After firmware update:
Firmware Datecode: 20111217                                   Firmware Datecode:  20130722
Firmware Revision: 2131305_192069                     Firmware Revision:    2300331_377983
All Help will be greatly appreciated.... JP

Try to turn on device while network cable is disconnected (standalone) and let it completely boot till READY status.
Connect the network cable & note the front panel status (display & LED's both).  Also note if the LAN port LED's are ON.
Hope that there is no data being processed by printer (data LED on control panel).  If yes, then you might need to delete any pending jobs (including firmware download initiated from computer - if pending in que as a job)
If printer shows READY status without any data, then you may try printing printer internal documents using control panel menus.  Next step will be to access printer through web brower (EWS page) and confirm if the device is available for use in network.

  • Laserjet 1525nw firmware update for macintosh

    Printer HP LaserJet 1525 NW
    OS Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2
I received an email from HP saying I needed to upgrade the firmware. I downloaded and ran the Mac installer. It crashes when it tries to download the firmware update from the internet. There is no explicit description of the error - the installer simply crashes. What am I supposed to do? I have tried repeatedly downloading the intaller in case the first copy was corrupt. The crash takes place consistently at the same point in the firmware installation process.

You could try download directly from here to some removable media on another machine (in case your mac is acting up)? http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34888/lj-86474-6/CP1520_Series_FW_Update-20111215.dmg
The above firmware update utility is for the HP Color LaserJet Pro CP1520 series.
This utility is for use on Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X.
The utility can be used with a USB connection or network connection. Be sure to use the firmware update utility that is specific to you printer model.
This update is recommended for HP Color LaserJet Pro CP1520 series that has a firmware version prior to 20110329.
This utility updates the printer firmware version to 20110329 (March 29, 2011).
The firmware version can be found from "Setup Menu" -> "Service" -> "Firmware Datecode".

  • Laserjet cp2025 firmware update failure

My lasejet is USB connected and I've been trying to update the firmware to the latest version. I've done everything in the support area to get it to update but still no joy. The update runs and says it succesfully updated buy the smily face when it is done but the printer didn't do what HP says it was suppose to and verified by printing a config page. I've tried networking and still get the same results.

  • Laserjet p1102w firmware update failed?

    Hello,
when updating my printer yesterday the update application finished with a message claiming that the firmware update was succesfull. But the yellow printer light kept blinking.
I waited a full hour but nothing changed.
After trying to update the firmware again I got a message that the update is not possible and that I should powercycle the printer.
After unplugging the printer and restarting it the yellow light kept blinking.
Trying to update the firmware for a third time finally resulted in a message that the "firmware is already" up to date.
    What now?

you can check whether the Firmware was updated by checking the configure report:
    1. Open the printer driver, and then click the Properties or Preferences button.
    2. Click the Services tab, and then, in the Print Information Pages drop-down list, click the Config
    Page list item.
    3. Click the Print button.

  • HP laserjet p1102w firmware update problem

HP offers an update of firmware for Eprint, nevertheless this update has a mistake since when it establishes himself and got the power off the printer, the IP gets lost in the memory of the printer and changes for 0.0.0.0. It is a mistake for HP in this offer that already I have seen in several forums for many people looking for the solution but nothing yet. Is there a way to re back to the older firmware to the printer? This is a big mistake of HP not resolved?

Hi  I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

  • HP LaserJet 3800 Firmware update

I am trying to update firmware on a USB attached 3800.  I cannot find a update utility that will allow me to select the .40 firmware to upload to it.

There are a couple of ways that this can be accomplished.
    1) Printer Sharing - Assumes that your PC is network connected.
NOTE: My example utilizes Win7.  XP, Vista are similar but may have a couple different steps.
    a. Open Devices and Printers
    b. Right Click on the printer and select Printer Properties
    c. Click the Sharing Tab
    d. Click Share this Printer and Give it a Share Name for example: MyPrinter
    e. Click Apply and/or OK
    f.  Then go to the windows Start Button and  in "search files and folders" type cmd and hit enter.  This will open a DOS prompt.
    g. In the DOS Prompt Type:   copy /b <TheFileName>  \\<HostName>\<ShareName>
    Example:
    <TheFileName> = FWREV_40.rfu
    <HostName> = KazsLaptop
    <ShareName> = MyPrinter
    copy /b FWREV_40.rfu  \\KazsLaptop\MyPrinter
This command will do a binary transfer of the FW Upgrade File to the printer via the network share.
    2) User a PRN printing utility.
One example tool that I am familiar with is available at the following Link:
    http://www.lerup.com/printfile/descr.html
To use this tool you do the following.
    a. Start the tool
    b. Click "Print File"
    c. Locate and select the RFU file.
    d. Click Open
    e. Select your printer.
    f. Click OK
Both have worked equally well for me in the past.

  • Laserjet 2430dtn Firmware Update

Having recently aquired this printer from Work.  I noticed the firmware was old and proceded to do the upgrade to version 8.120.4 with the files found on the HP web site.  The upgrade file is "lj2420fw_08_120_4.rtf"  The printer happily received the upgrade and then displayed a message "cycling power".  This message remained for over an hour at which time I manually ccled the power.  Once doing this the printer comes on but the display remains blank (the display back light is off as well) and the ready, data and attention LEDs are off.  How can I recover from this state.Model number : Q5962A

You may not be able to since the firmware is now fried.  Only way which may work, would be to connect to a computer with a parallel cable and to load the driver on that computer using port lpt1 as the port.  You can then use the easy firmware download and in the box that comes up choose the printer you just added to that computer and see if the firmware tries to load.  If that does not work, then download the firmware for all operating systems, download and a zip folder will open with 2 files.  Copy the first file to a new folder you make in the c drive main directory called 2430.  After copying the file, rename it to 2430.rfu.  Now on that computer go to a dos window (start, run, command and enter) and at the prompt type cd\2430 and hit enter.  Now at the prompt type copy /b 2430.rfu lpt1 and hit the enter key.  If it is working, something will appear on the screen.  If it does not work, then the formatter will need to be replaced.  Good Luck.

  • HP Laserjet P2015 will not accept firmware update

    Hi,
A laserjet P2015n will not accept a firmware upgrade.
When attempting to upgrade, paper jam led flashes 3 times, pauses for 1 second , flashes 3 times.......led will repeat this pattern even after upgrade is supposed to have completed.
If I cycle the power, the printer returns to ready state but firmware is still at the older version.
User had been experiencing dificulties printing and firmware update might resolve the issues.
Does anyone know of a solution?

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • LaserJet M1217nfw won't do wireless printing from iMac 10.7.5 after HP firmware update

My LaserJet M1217 worked perfectly until I did the recent firmware update. Now it's a brick. I called tech support, was on hold for nearly an hour, got offshore folks who kept me on even longer with marketing hoo-hah, and finally told me that the mfp was no longer under warranty and they wouldn't help unless I paid. I explained that the problem was caused by HP's own firmware update, but no dice. Tried a tweet to HP - also no luck. Tried again, had a nearly two-hour hold, couldn't understand the guy. Wasn't about to pay when the help was incomprehensible. So now I have a brick. And clients waiting. And a grudge.
I tried the fix suggested earlier in the forum - holding down the x and the right arrow while powering up. The printer showed ready...and made copies, but when I tried to print I still got printer errors saying the printer isn't connected to the computer.
So I went to system preferences and deleted the HP M1217, then went online and downloaded the HP driver again. Opened it up, but now during setup it wants the network address or network name for the desired printer. And I have no idea. I tried going on Safari and entering localhost:631/printers, but since the HP still isn't in the system, it doesn't show up. And maybe this wasn't even the right thing to try, but I'm getting no help from HP, and I'm not very technical. Argh.
Any thoughts? Or should I just chuck what was a wonderful device and never buy anything from HP again.
    Thank you!!!

    Hello SC_W,
The IP address can be fixed by going to Setup > Network Config > TCP/IP Config from the printer front panel.
Then select Manual and set the IP as manual.. I would using an higher value to avoid IP conflicts (e.g. if the current IP is 10.0.0.1, change only the last part to 10.0.0.20 so the address will remain and won't be used by other devices when the printer is powered off.)
Although I personally doubt it will help assigning a fixed IP as Mac OS X uses Bonjour hostname to communicate with the printer (which is fixed) and not athe IP address as Windows uses.
Additionally, as Apple products uses Bonjour, I could see some discussions on this matter for the Home Hub 3.0.
    Below is an example:
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/HomeHub-3-Apple-Bonjour-not-working-for-AirPlay-AirPrin...
If setting a fixed IP does not help, try the folowing to isolate the problem and ensure if Multicast packets transfer may cause the issue:
From your Mac go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, click the Plus sign and then click the IP tab.
Select the HP Jetdirect Socket protocol and type the IP as the address value.
Add the printer, you will see an additional print queue listed as the IP address.
Keep using this queue for printing and let me know if you may se any difference for this print queue..
