  • 10.3.9 and HP Laserjet 'jobs stopped' Can I pretend it's another printer?

Cannot get HP Laserjet M1120 MFP to print on my Mac Mini running 10.3.9: the printer is correctly identified in the Printer Setup Utility. But when i print, from any program, everything looks like it's going to happen but then I get the message 'jobs stopped'. The printer works as a scanner, so it's not a connection problem. Could there be something missing from the driver software?
Alternatively, could it all have been confused by me adding an extra user account to this computer?
Previously I did get the printer to work on my old eMac, also running 10.3.9, but have decided to move on from this dinosaur, because the noise of the fan was so distracting.
In trying to get the mini (G4, 1.2) to work with the printer have used original and downloaded HP software, de-installed and re-installed it countless times, but still makes no difference.
Can I perhaps trick it into working by pretending to be using another HP printer? If so how do I do this?
Am just about ready to chuck printer out of the window..(if not myself) please someone help!

    Hi Alex!
On this website HP LaserJet 2100 Printer, it states "HP LaserJet and Edgeline Universal Print Driver Only for Mac OS X 10.5".
But here is HP LaserJet Mac OS X Universal Binary Generic Print Driver Installer.

  • HP Laserjet 4050 and Snow Leopard

We had problems printing with our new OS 10.6.5 to our HP Laserjet 4050. The following is what has solved the issue.
To get the old HP LaserJet 4050 to work with OS 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard)
Go to the website for HP printers at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us &prodNameId=18318&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25475&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvO ID=219
Then download and install the driver (if needed): HP LaserJet Mac OS X Installer Print Only Software Solution for v10.2, v10.3.x, v10.4.x, v10.5 7.8.0.761 28 Jan 2008
Next go to the printer and router. Look for the IP Address on each, they must match for wireless printing.
On your computer, open System Preferences > Print & Fax > Printers (Select +) > Add Printer > Address: (Enter the printer IP Address) > Name: (Name the printer as you want.) > Print Using: Click on this menu > Choose Select Printer Software > Printer Software: Scroll down to HP Laserjet 4050 - Gutenprint v5.2.3 and click on it to highlight it. > Click OK at the bottom of the menu. > Add Printer - Click on Add > Print & Fax - you now should have the printer on the list with the name given to it. > Default printer: At this menu select this printer as the default one if desired.
Now you should be able to print correctly.

I have spent months to get my HP Laserjet 5MP running with my new iMac.
The Mac kept loosing the connection to my printer, I always had to unplug it and reinstall it...
    I went nuts !
I never had problems with my old Windows laptop !
    Finally it was fairly easy:
    I am using Mac OX X 10.7.5
    I just bought a new USB-to-parallel-cable.
The Mac immediately recognized the USB cable.
After that I was able to install the printer as usual.
Maybe I need to say that I am using the latest HP driver package, so I could choose the right driver for the installation...
It is working happily ever since !
Looking back, it must have to do with the (wrong) USB cable, although I cant tell what exactly was wrong with my old cable.

  • Printer dialog fine in english, busted in swedish...

Ok, this is very annoying, and I'd appreciate any help I can on this one.
Coming from an all-Windows corporation, with only me having minor experience with OS X, I'm a bit stumped as to how to solve this. The thing is, our business is digital printing, and although I can stumble along as it is, it's annoying enough to warrant some time spent on finding a solution. Whether this forum is the right place to go, I don't know yet.
At our office, we have an HP Color Laserjet 9500hdn. Nothing really fancy there, has worked for years and years with no problems via Windows. This spring however, we acquired a Mac Pro to replace an ageing XP Pro machine.
At first, there was some problems with getting the printer to stay connected properly, it timed out for some reason, and with big print jobs, we could not have it that way. This was with the original driver included with 10.5. I looked for updated drivers on HP's site, and found both a firmware and drivers for the printer. All said and done, the firmware was installed along with the HP driver.
Big mistake I guess. Should've gone with only the firmware to start with, that might actually have sufficed. But the driver was installed as well, and here we are now.
What is the actual problem then? Well, the printer now works as it is supposed to, that is all fine and dandy. However, the printer dialog windows are busted when they are displayed in Swedish. They work fine in their English counterparts (as portrayed by the following screenshots from the English version of Firefox alongside the Swedish version of InDesign).
    http://www.zugzug.eu/CLJ9500-driver-swe-1.jpg
    http://www.zugzug.eu/CLJ9500-driver-swe-2.jpg
    http://www.zugzug.eu/CLJ9500-driver-swe-3.jpg
    http://www.zugzug.eu/CLJ9500-driver-swe-4.jpg
This behaviour is duplicated on all apps. Works fine in Pages (English version) for example, while the Swedish version of Photoshop displays it incorrectly.
Now, what can be done about this? I have a few alternatives:
    1. Somehow force ALL printer dialogs to display in English. Is this at all possible?
    2. Somehow remove the HP driver (there is no uninstall utility that I have found) and reinstate the original driver. How to do this is beyond me.
I've tried reinstalling the printer driver, I have tried removing and installing the printer, but nothing helps. It still works in English, but displays incorrectly in Swedish.
Very annoying, to be honest, and any help here is appreciated. I'm not afraid to go into the terminal and play if needed, just as long as you tell me what to do
Here are the versions and links to HP's drivers/firmware I've installed:

Problem solved! Short recipe: Uninstall everything HP, then reinstall HP printer drivers from Mac OS X 10.5 DVD.
Instructions from HPs hardware support person (complete with comments from support person 2):
    Unplug the printer.
Uninstall the printer - He says he does not have HP uninstaller under Go and Applications. He didn't have HP Laserjet either
Uninstall any HP printer SW that has been installed.
Remove the following files (if available)
HD/Library/Printers/hp/laserjet/P2015series (Not sure of the name)
HD/Library/Receipts/hp Laserjet P2015.pkg (Not sure of the name here either) - Cust found this (he thinks)
HD/Library/Frameworks/libZJBIG.dylib (This file may not even exist but if it does: remove it) - He also found this and removed it
    Empty the recycle bin!
Insert Mac OS Leopard installation CD, choose click Optional Installs - Seems like cust hasn't tried that at all before so he will do that now and call back
I really didn't think they would be able to find a solution this fast. Hats off for HP!

  • Where are the printer driver files?

I'm very new to Apple. I've installed a printer driver for a new printer, but don't know where the system has put it! I can't install the printer as it's not in the list of available devices. Any help for this idiot gratefully received.

  • When I click "unhide" in my hidden purchases list, it still does not show up

I hid all my TV show purchases to clean up my library by pressing the 'x' on the icon corners. I believe it would say "do you want to hide this from iCloud?" and clicked yes.
Now, when I go to my iTunes account > Hidden Purchases, my shows are all there. But when I click 'unhide' and then return to iTunes home > Purchased, nothing has shown up and I can't click on anything (Seasons, Episodes, Sort by bar are disabled).
Does anyone know where to retrieve these purchases? Maybe from iCloud itself?

    Try resetting the printing system:
Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X v10.4.x
To use the Reset Printing System function in Mac OS X v10.4.x, follow these steps:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
Hold down the Option key while clicking the "+" (Add printer) button.
As an alternative, you can choose Reset Printing System… from the Printer Setup Utility menu while in Printer Setup Utility (which open when the  "+" button is clicked).

  • Panther 10.3.9 RAID issue

I have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1 GHz QuickSilver with 1GB of RAM and 4 HD's. I configured disks 3 & 4 as a RAID 1 Mirror using a PCI ATA card with Mac OS X Disk Utility. They are 200 GB drives. I've had this setup running since Christmas with no problems. Today, my machine wouldn't boot up and I got the "default catch! code=300" followed by what looks like a memory location of the error, and instructions to mac-boot or shut-down.
Trying mac-boot leads to a "default catch! code=400" error message repeatedly, shut-down works as advertised.
I booted from my Mac OS X disk and ran disk utility. The volume was OK, but permission repair errored out and forced some kind of "lost contact with disk manager" error. I had to exit the disk utility and restart it, tried again, no good. Looking at the RAID in Disk Utility, it says that it is degraded (no kidding). for disk 1 and 2.
I booted DiskWarrior and ran the rebuild utility. It claimed to fix some permission and file errors, but still no boot.
I can use DiskWarrior to save my data, but the point of setting up this RAID was to avoid being in this situation in the first place!
    Questions:
    1. Would setting up this RAID on disks 1 & 2 on the motherboard ATA controller instead of the PCI ATA on disks 3 & 4 have avoided this problem?
    2. If not, how can this be avoided and what is the point of having a RAID if when a disk goes bad you can't boot up anyway?
ps. I found http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106987 and see how to rebuild my RAID if I can ever boot into the OS again. Also, I'm a Unix admin and developer, so I'm not afraid of command lines or editing any system files (vi or die). Not tooting my own horn, just letting you know who you're dealing with.

  • Error Saving Image

I recently upgraded my Mac Pro, Snow Leopard to Lion, and now am having trouble scanning wiht my HP CM1415fnw Laserjet.  Previously, it worked just fine.  I've checked out the other discussions on how to fix the error message:  com.apple image capture coe error 9931.  I've tried the following:  updating drivers and firmware for the HP; repairing disk persmissions; using Command Option P R to zap the Parameter RAM.  I don't see the "use custom size" box to uncheck.  Should I reinstall the HP software, unplug the router connection, or reinstall Lion?

there is a chance could be someting left overs from 10.6.8 when you upgraded over.
Driver and firmware should have been enough, but those are from end of 2011, and could 10.7.4 broke support would not come as a huge shock or surprise.
Old preferences and support files left behinid. Try a new trial user account.
Don't see why the router plays a role other than doing networked scanner and printer.
I always believe in leaving 10.6.8 around for months just in case; install new OS on a new hard drive and use Setup Assistant instead.
If you want to use it, maybe dual boot Snow Leopard for those times and try to get HP's attention.

  • Mac OSX 10.8 does not recognize HP LaserJet Pro M1213nf MFP

This is probably an obsolete system support problem.
This LaserJet Pro M1213nf is an old product from HP that I just recently (~3 months) purchased from a vendor as new. The MFP system is flawless and except for the occasional scanner tilt in grabbing the sheet from the automatic document feeder, works perfectly.
Unfortunately, when I bought it, I used an old Macbook with Snow Leopard to test it. Worked beautifully. I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion, and it does not work with that. This Macbook is going to be my primary system from now on.
Googling this problem has convinced me that neither HP nor Apple intend to support this, at least not anytime soon. Updating drivers from the store has not helped. In fact, each time it has happened, I have had to uninstall the new driver, and install the old Lion version of the drivers (see below).
    Current status:
    1. It prints without a problem. It copies too, but I don't really use that a lot.
    2. It scans but only with the HP Scan application bundled with the Lion version of the driver. (which was the last major version where this was supported)
    3. Image Capture, Preview, etc. do not work with this and the OS does not even recognize the scanner.
I installed sane-backends to work around the problem but I have not really invested a great deal of time into it and that did not help.
My question is - how do I hack it to work with my Mountain Lion install natively? I use Linux regularly, and have absolutely no issues compiling software, tinkering with things, using open source software, etc. My understanding is that Mountain Lion has changed the interface for scanners and that new interface is not available for older scanners.
Why do I need this to work? Well, I scan a lot of documents and there are some AppleScripts I want to use to do some standard post scan processing to reduce PDF size. The native HP scan application that comes with the drivers is an irritating piece of crap that wastes my time everytime I need to do something.
And I am not going to throw out a perfectly good MFP just because Apple and HP want to generate some undeserved profits off me. Good hardware always trumps artificial commercial software choices for this engineer.

Just saw your reply. I am not sure what you are suggesting.
I have the following in my Mac Harddrive/Library/Image Capture/Devices folder:
    Canon IJScanner2
    Canon IJScanner4
    EPSON Scanner
    HP M1130_M1210 Scanner
However, the icon for the last mentioned is different. It does not have the Image Capture icon. It simply has the generic application icon (two white papers with an "A" formed out of a ruler, a pencil and a brush). I doubt that the icon makes a difference, but it is what I observe.
The permissions for the first three and the last are identical.
The file sizes for all the files are in the same size range (except for EPSON, which is much bigger).
I should reiterate that I am using the Lion version drivers on Mavericks (just upgraded from Mountain Lion yesterday). Those are the newest drivers for this MFP.

  • Printing problem with HP laserjet 1100A after upgrading to Mac OS Maverick

    Good afternoon,
I have always been able to use my HP Laserjet 1100A with my iMac till I upgraded to Mac OS Maverick.
After giving a printing order just one order will be carried out.
In case I have 3 printjobs I have te restart the iMac twice to carry out all the print jobs.
I am using USB for connection.
When I use the printer with my Windows computer (Windows 7) there is no problem at all with the required printjobs.
I guess the driver Gutenprint v5.2.3 is the cause of the problem.
Is there a new printerdriver available?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I have a Mac Air.. with 10.10 and just purchased a HP laserjet pro M201dw  .. I can't get it to print duplex in pages or word.  In pages not highlighted. does in Adobe for pdf.  Help!

I have a Mac Air with 10.10 .  Just purchased a HP Laserjet Pro M201dw printer.  I can not get the duplex printing to work in Word or Pages.  It does work for PDF files in Acrobat Pro.  It won't for emails.  In Pages I see two- sided but it is dimmed.  I look at setups and it shows two -sided is off but can't find a way to change this setting.  In the printer setting itself, the duplex box is checked.  Need help.  Did notice the driver only goes up to 10.9 but it says on Apple site of supported printers this one is listed.
Appreciate help in solving this issue.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to give me some time and assistance.

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • Using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up

using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up as follows: the first page out is page 2, with 1 on reverse side, next page is page 4, with 3 on reverse side., etc.  This requires that I re-collate every paper I print.  Have tried a few things in set up and re-installing the printer, but still not fixed.

I am having the same problem.  Nice to see that HP has not responded.

  • Can't print from my mac to my HP Colour Laserjet 1600

I have a HP Colour Laserjet 1600. Whenever I print anything from my mac, a icon appears in the dock but, disappears after about 5 seconds and nothing gets printed. Can someone please tell me what I can do?

The third party HPIJS drivers do not support the LaserJet 1600 on a Mac.  You can view the list of printers that are supported by the HPIJS drivers at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs# Printers.
There are third party drivers that do support the LaserJet 1600, but there are no Mac installer packages available for them.  You would have to compile them from source code.  These foo2hp drivers can be found at http://foo2hp.rkkda.com/.

  • Can't scan over network with a laserjet 1217 on a Mac

    Hi
    My set up:
    Mac with Yosemite
    Laserjet M1217 over wireless
    Problem description:
I can't scan. From preview, or the control panel, or image capture, I get the same error saying "can't open a session"
I have installed and re-installed the drivers/printer around 100 times.
I have tried adding the printer/scanner as airprint, or with the name of the printer as a post suggested.
Everything result in the same error.
I have version 2.0 of the driver installed right now. Tried with 1.7 as well, same result.
I can print without a problem from my Mac and from my iPad.
Tried with an ethernet cable and have teh same issue in case someone ask.
I've looked everywhere in google and doesn't seem like anyone else have the same issue? Many people have issues printing over wireless, but that's ok for me. Is the scanning I can't get to work.
HP pages doesn't offer any different driver than what Yosemite has. HP doesn't offer any extra program for Mac and scan.
Don't know what else to try.
    Some help? Anyone?

    Hi @juancgallardo ,
I see that you are experiencing issues scanning over the wireless network and hardwired network on Yosemite.
I would like to help you out with this issue today.
The drivers for Yosemite are installed by the Apple Updates.
Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.
Did you add the printer as a Bonjour printer or IP Protocal?
IP Protocal won't allow you to scan, just print.
You can also download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
If you are still having issues then check that the scanning ports on the router to make sure that they are open. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router.
If you still can't scan, connect the printer directly to the Mac with a USB cable and see if you can scan. Just to rule out a network issue.
What kind of router do you have?
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • Mac pro / Laserjet 4 / Os 10.6 - how do I make the printer work?

    Hi,
I have a 2008 Mac Pro running 10.6.8 and an ancient yet still thriving HP Laserjet 4 that I was  using over an ethernet/Jetdirect connection with my G5 for years - how do I get them to talk to each other?
I'm running the printer connection through a router, but the Mac Pro has 2 ethernet ports so I guess I can plug the printer in directly if that's simpler.  The IP of the printer is 192.168.5.40 and I've tried setting it up with the "Add a printer" dialogue but can't get it to work.
I've read through a lot of posts and looked at a lot of Websites but I can't find step by step instructions for getting the computer to see the printer.  I have Gutenprint drivers installed if that helps.
And - just to keep the discussiion concise:
    - I know that there are better newer printers that I could buy for cheap, but that isn't going to happen right now.
    - I know that 10.6 isn't the most recent OS
I'm hopipng for truly step-by-step instructions that even I can understand.
    Thanks!

So maybe it's a problem with the printer's IP?
Yes. As far as your network is concerned, the printer is just not there.
You will not be able to progress until you assign it an IP address accessible to your LAN. Apparently it needs to be 192.168.1.x (a 1 in the place that is now a 5), where x = a large enough number that is not likely for router to assign to other equipment.
Your challenge is to assign the printer that IP address. Let's use the address 192.168.1.150.
HP's support pages for that printer and its Jetdirect card say, rather unhelpfully:
Using the front panel of printer
The IP address may also be changed using the front panel of the HP Jetdirect device. This method of front panel configuration varies greatly depending on the model of HP printer that is being used (consult the User's Guide for the front panel instructions for a particular printer). Click here to go to the HP Web site. Use the Search and search for Front Control Panel TCP/IP Configuration .
I did that and it didn't really get me anywhere, since there seem to be few if any references to the non- "MP" or "V" etc. variants of the original LaserJet 4. So, try to find a setting in the printer's front panel that bears any resemblance to "network settings" or "IP address".
If you are able to navigate its front panel to a place where you can enter the IP address 192.168.1.150 be sure to press GO or ENTER or ONLINE or whatever you think might make the setting "stick" after you enter those digits. Print the same test page you did before, and ensure its IP address has really been changed. Then, then try the ping command again, with its new IP address:
    ping 192.168.1.150
If you are unable to determine a way to use the printer's front panel to change its IP address, you should be able to use Terminal to set it. This will get a bit cumbersome so use it only if you are unable to change the printer's IP address some other way:
Terminal is a program in your Mac's Utilities folder.
Locate Terminal and open it. At the command prompt, type the following exactly as written (copy and paste the following to avoid errors):
    sudo arp -s 192.168.1.150 00:60:b0:91:21:e7
... and press Return. You will get a warning of impending disaster should you make a mistake, and requesting your Mac's Administrator password to proceed. Type your password (which will not appear as you type it) and press Return. Unless something went wrong the command prompt should immediately reappear as if nothing happened.
Next try the ping command again:
    ping 192.168.1.150
You should receive ping responses from the printer as in my earlier example.
If you do, then congratulations because you have made it all the way to Step 1
You still have to add the printer in System Preferences > Print & Fax, using this new IP address, and make sure the Gutenprint driver works.
Edit: The reason your printer works with your old G5 running Tiger is that it is using AppleTalk for communication. AppleTalk doesn't exist in Snow Leopard. This is the reason you must use IP for communication on your Mac Pro. Your old G5 should continue to work with the printer as it always has.
another Edit: HP's support page alleges that the Terminal command arp above will only work with JetDirect firmware versions x.08.03 and later only. Yours appears to be A.05.05, so the front panel option may be all there is. If that does not work I have one more idea but it's an even bigger pain.
