HP LaserJet 400 Color MFP M475dw Problems in OS 10.9.4

I'm using a 2013 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 9 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.  I connect via wifi to the referenced printer (for almost a year now).  Since updating to OS 10.9.4 I am able to print only one document at a time.  Attempting to print a second document generates the message "Printer is not connected."  If I turn the printer off and back on again, I'm able to print one document.  Then the same thing occurs again.  I have done the following so far, all to no avail:
Downloaded and installed latest driver (specifically for Mavericks) from HP
Checked for Apple software updates and found none
Reset the printing system (per instructions elsewhere in these forums)
I updated to OS 10.9.4 on July 5th and that is when this problem started.  Where do I go from here???

And BTW, here's a repost of what I posted on July 7th:
I'm running a 2013 Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS version 10.9.4 (updated to this OS version 5 days ago, on July 2nd).  For a little less than a year I've been printing to a HP LaserJet 400 Color MFP M475dw via wireless connection.  A few weeks ago I began to have numerous "printer is not connected" events, and it reached the point I could not print anything - from my MacBook, my iPad Air, or my iPhone 5S.  I discovered there was an updated printer driver on HP's website, specifically for OS 10.9.  Downloaded and installed it, and the problem was seemingly solved.
Then I updated the OS to 10.9.4.  AARRRRGH!!!!!!  For the last 5 days, the printer will - sometimes - print the first document in a queue of 2 or more and then, while the printer is still "running," tell me the printer is not connected.  I turn the printer off and back on, get one print job, then have to repeat the process.  Here are all the things I've tried to resolve the issue:
Verified settings on the printer to make sure everything is set up properly
Restarted Airport Extreme, printer, and MacBook (multiple times) -- clarification:  I turned off both the MacBook and the printer, then unplugged Airport for a few minutes, replugged it, restarted the printer, then restarted the MacBook
Reset the printing system (as suggested elsewhere in the Support forums), which basically removes all printers from the MacBook, then lets you add back those that you want - presumably with the most current driver(s).
Searched help/support forums on Apple, HP, and the internet in general
Found a firmware update for the printer on HP's website -- but it is not compatible with OS 10.9 (only goes up through 10.8).  I downloaded it and tried, even though 10.9 was not listed, and the "app" wouldn't even open.
All of these efforts have been to no avail.  The problem persists, and I'm at my wit's end how to solve it.  HELP, please..........anyone??????

  • Hoping for repsonse from HP, re: Laserjet 400 Color MFP M475dw can not locate wifi network

    Greetings!
MY HP Laserjet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dw (9 months old) no longer finds any wireless network in my home. It worked fine then stopped for no reason I can determine. Nor will it print via USB cable direct from my PC.  I opened a case with HP on 9/1/14 for this issue (Case [Edited for Personal Information]) but have only received emails from HP asking for a valid phone number and the address of the printer location, all of which has been provided several times. The first email from HP gave me a phone number to contact HP but that number was missing a digit (1-890-946-500). Please help! This printer is the only color printer I have to use for my home-based small business. Thank you! Wendy [Edited for Personal Information]

  • Laserjet Pro 400 color MFP M475dw print in black and white

    Hello,
I have a Laserjet Pro 400 color MFP M475dw printer that is contected to a network so that multiple users can print from it. I want to be able to restrict it so that they can only print in black and white and double sided. Is this possible? and if so could you please tell me how?
I am not able to restrict them on a print by print basis, hence I am looking for a solution where I only have to make the change once.
    Thanks for your help!

I understand you want to change a setting one time so that no matter who is sending the printer a print job it prints in gray scale.  Actually I found two ways to do it.  Here is the basic way to do it as described on page 16 of the User Guide.  Also, you could set up this printer to receive emails (ePrint) in gray scale only.  I just did a test after making changes in my ePrint settings at www.eprintcenter.com and no color was printed on a regular document containing color.  I hope that answers your question.  If not, let me know. I will be happy to explain greater detail.

  • LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP(m475dw) needs rebooting to scan to network folder

If our LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP(m475dw) sits overnight or for a good majority of the day without scanning to a network folder it will need to be rebooted before it will connect to the folder.
I have tried adding a different folder and the same issue occurs.  The printer is connected to the network via wireless connection.
Once the printer has been power cycled the scanner now works fine to the network.
I would like to figure out why this is necessary and find a fix for it.

  • Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw - problems connecting wirelessly to PC

I have just bought a Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw and cannot connect wirelessly to my home network.
The installation goes to 99% and then gives an error message saying it took too long to connect, reboot and try again. Rebooted and tried again many times.
I have downloaded the latest installation prog. with the same result.
I have been able to connect with USB direct and can print, but not by Wi-Fi.
I have been able to connect the printer to my rooter by ethernet cable and can print that way also.
I am running Win 8.1 on a 64bit Lenovo computer.
Please can you advise a solution?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes. It's a bit embarrassing. Eventually, I went back to the instructions, and followed them to the letter for the WIFI setup -  and it worked .
For me, the adage is true - "When all else fails, read the instructions."
    So embarrassing!!!!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Scanner error 6: HP LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP M475dw does not get through initialization phase

My lJ400 MFP475 detects a problem with the scanner unit after chewing on it for several minutes and never finishes intitialization. Initially you can hear the scanner head move softly, but after less than a minute it starts rattling at the end of every move.
After a few minutes I get the message "Scanner error 6, Turn off then turn on".
I did that, again and again. Also with cables removed, waiting for some time etc.
In the Event log I can see the following:
    Entry # Code Page Description
    10 54.2100 1035 BD error
    9 54.2100 1023 BD error
    8 54.2100 1016 BD error
    7 54.2100 1015 BD error
    6 54.2100 1014 BD error
    5 54.2100 1011 BD error
    4 54.2100 887 BD error
    3 41.3000 260 Unexpected Paper Size
    2 54.2100 43 BD error
    1 54.2100 39 BD error
I have used this MFP sparingly and am only halfway the first set of color toner cartridges, so I'm a bit disappointed about how quickly this printer gives up. My previous printer was an Apple Laserwriter Select 360 that lasted for 20 years (no, I'm not kidding, bought it in 1993).
    Any clue?

  • Laserjet pro 400 color MFP m475dw scanner stopped working in windows 8.1. Please help!

updated my laptop to windows 8.1 and the hp scanning software stopped working.  It would not find the printer even though i could print from it.  I uninstalled the entire software suite, removed all traces of the printer from contol pannel and then proceeded to download the 8.1 64 bit version of the full solution suite.  Tried to run it and the program gets to about 80%, says a problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system and tells me to restart computer and try again.
Tried restart, no go.  then tried to load just the basic print and scan and same problem.  Restarted, tried again and nothing.  then i turned off firewall and antivirus.  did prior steps and nothing.  I can manually install the printer through control pannel but I cant get the HP software to load at all.  plum out of ideas and of course HP wants to charge me to troubleshoot a year old printer but cant guarantee it will work.  Lovely.... Any help is appreciated.

  • Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw - Problem always visible to public network

I have an IBM laptop running on Windows 7. I know that supposedly the SSID is only supposed to be visible when printing, but mine is always available and visible in the Network Connections Internet Access Tray at all times.  I can tell when neighbors try to log on using that as a wireless connection because the printer resets itself.  How do I make the printer invisible on the network?  The only way I can see to make it disappear from the list of available wireless networks is to turn the printer off.  Is there another way?
    I read:
"The network "HP-Print-b9-Laserjet 100" is the wireless direct ssid for your printer for on the spot printing, but is based on activity in a way (if there is no activity on the connection - i.e. Print jobs - the connection terminates)."
However, my connection is always available.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

There can only be two reasons for the SSID to be broadcasted:  either the Ad-hoc is being listed or the Wireless Direct feature has been enabled (it is disabled by default).
The SSID definitely looks like a Wireless Direct SSID as an ad-hoc ID does not list print by default.
Perform these steps on the printer:
    1.  Go to Setup.
    2.  Go to Network Setup.
    3.  Go to Wireless.
    4.  Check that Wireless Direct is enabled.  If it is, disable it and the SSID you listed should no longer be listed.
Now, the ad-hoc connection will then be broadcasted.  Ad-hoc is the standard wifi adapter when there is no wifi network connection on the printer.  Since you do not want the printer listed at all and you are using a wired connection, I recommend disabling the wifi feature all together.
This can be done by going to the wireless menu, where wireless direct was listed, and turn wireless off.
These steps will not affect Ethernet or USB connections.  They will disable both Wireless Direct and the wireless radio completely.

I would try pulling up the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the IP address for the printer in to a browser and set a static IP address & DNS.
The information for the default gateway, subnet mask and that IP address can be accessed from the Setup menu on the front panel,  go to Setup>> Reports>> Network summary  and that will print it off.
Once you have entered the IP in to a Browser and have the EWS pulled up, navigate to the tab at the top labeled “Networking”. Then click on IPv4 in the left column; that will bring up the Address configuration page.  Set the radio button to manual and fill out the IP address, Default gateway and Subnet mask with the information from the report. Do not worry about filling out the portion titled WINS server, that can be left alone.
You will then want to fill out the DNS portion of the page, The Preferred should be set to 8.8.8.8 and the alternative/secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4. Then click “apply”
Power cycle the printer. Turn it off, wait 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Once it is completely up and running reattempt to connect to web services.

  • Grinding noise when my HP LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP M475 calibrates

When my HP LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP M475 recalibrates, I get a grinding or gear slipping noise.  Any idea how to fix it or what to look for?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Noise issues are difficult to troubleshoot remotely and they could easily misguide even when we are close to the device.
Please do confirm if the noise is a grinding noise or squeky/humming noise.
As you have mentioned that it happens only while calibrating, hence I would suggest you to re-check & validate your toner cartridges.  One of the toner cartrdige may be defective and causing this issue.
If not the toner cartridge then it would be one of the printer hardware component which is in question, hence an HP tech. might need to perform physical inspection of the device and the error condition.
