  • Cannot connect HP Laserjet 4100n printer.

I have a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and a HP Laserjet 4100n printer. Both are connected to a Netgear hub using CAT5 cables. I recently moved house.
The only change to my set-up is that instead of the PC connecting to the Internet through the Netgear it now connects using a Wireless USB dongle. The printer and PC are still connected in the same way.
Other than that everything else is the same... except my networked printer no longer works.
The printer prints test pages and the network light is on. Likewise, my PC seems operational.
When I try to connect a new printer through control panel the problem seems to be that the PC cannot see the printer. Any ideas?

  • HP LaserJet 4100N-print queue reverts to pause

I've been trying relentlessly to get my iMac (early 2008 model) to print on an HP LaserJet 4100N.  I've been able to establish the connection (via ethernet) using the IP address on the printer and configuring as Protocol LPD, HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107.  All looks good, including valid connection, etc.  However, when I try to print the printer queue goes into action, shows that it's "printing-copying print data-printing", but as soon as it gets to the next step "connected to printer" the job suddenly drops and reverts to pause mode.  According to the information provided under printer "Options and Supplies", I have driver version 19.5.  HP says that OS 10.6 comes with the necessary driver (where I started before upgrading to Mountain Lion), and that an update for Mountain Lion can be found under Apple's Software Update.  But no such update is found.
My older PowerBook G4 with OS 10.6 works fine, so I'm assume it's an issue with the software/driver that's supporting Mountain Lion.
    Any suggestions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    • Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    • In the Finder, select Go > Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    • Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
    View > Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • HP Laserjet 4100N - Cannot Load Driver or Print

My Laserjet 4100N is on our LAN. We have never had any problems with it at all.
    We installed Snow Leopard yesterday.
We now cannot get any of our Macs to print.
The only "driver" loaded: "ADOBE PDF 9.0-1"
When in the "Print & Fax" control panel, we try to add a printer, the "default" appears, which is "Adobe PDF 9.0-1."
When we try to choose "other" a list of drivers comes up. We select the proper driver, but nothing works.
The printer is configured for DHCP.
We do not understand the "IP" option at all.
The entire print & fax interface presents a cryptic mystery to the user, a la Windows. 10.5 was far better.
We are at a loss as to what to do.

Thank you, though this does seem a step backwards for Apple.
I mean, maybe they should have done away with Appletalk, I don't know, but I found nothing anywhere that told me that or that explained what any of the terminology in the "IP" printer setup meant, etc.
Also, my router currently assigns an IP address to the Printer via DHCP, which I've always found convenient. I guess that's all over with. Will Apple publish something that helps us non-techies through the process for each printer on a LAN?
    Seems very Microsoft to me.

  • HP Laserjet 4100n Print Problem

Just installed SL and I'm unable to get my HP Laserjet 4100n to print. Has anyone out there encountered this? Any solutions?
    Thanks

    Marco,
Can you describe the problem with a bit more detail? More likely then not what you are currently running into is the fact that AppleTalk has been removed on Snow Leopard. There are plenty of threads here describing what to do. But if you post back your specific problems I may be able to point you in the right direction.
    Just trying to help.

  • Can't find drivers and can't see HP Laserjet 4100n on network

Please, please, please can somone point me in the right direction.
This is now DAY 3 and I still cannot get my HP Laserjet 4100n connected to either my network using an IP address, or directly to my new Windows 8 PC using a parallel/usb cable.
I have been able to network a Lexmark X543 with no issues - so it has to be with the drivers or printer.
The time I have wasted on this is ridiculous.
I have just found the HP Printer Wizard - but it doesn't seem to recognise paralell/usb cables - so I am still stuck.

    vpa-ni,
I am glad you currently have it working. I put the link below to your HP printer software page.

  • HP Laserjet 4100n network printer driver fails to install

I am trying to install the printer driver for an HP 4100n laserjet on an XP machine.  I have downloaded the file "hp LaserJet 4100 Printing System (61.3 MB) from the HP web site.  First issue is that upon executing the setup exe file the InstallShield stops at 99%.  I have to end it via Windows Task manager.  Occassionally I can get to 100% but I have no idea why only occassionally.  If I boot into Safe Mode I get to 100% everytime.
Once in Safe Mode the wizard seems to operate properly, finding the printer on the network and returning the correct TCP address.  I get to the end of the wizard and I get a Sever Error message and the wizard terminates.
I have two laptops and one other desktop connected to the 4100n via the network.  I must be doing something wrong and could use some suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Network HP Laserjet is no longer accessible by my iMac and Macbooks after OSX upgrade.

My HP Laserjet 4100n is no longer accessible over my wired/wireless network from my iMac and Macbooks.  This is new since I upgraded to OSX 10.6.8.  The printer works fine from my old windows laptop.  Thanks in advance for any help.

appears that apple has changed SMB code, and now its not possible login from windows on mac.
i installed snow leopard and now works fine.
apple is capable to make it run paying new license of smb code, but isnted of this, apple has created new protocol smbx and now, all others need to adapt your code to apple..
bad movement.. i am thinking sell imac and no back to apple anymore..

  • Problems printing to HP LJ 4100N

I have an old iMac G4 that I use as a kind of wireless file server and occasional workstation. Because it still has some old software on it that I use, the machine runs MacOS 10.4.11 and 9.2 in "Classic mode". It used to be that I could print to my Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 4100N (connected to an Airport Express relay via Ethernet cable) without any problems. I could even print from "Classic" mode.
The connection worked fine until I installed a driver update some time ago.
The HP is connected via Ethernet to an Apple Airport Express WiFi relay; the main router is a round Airport Extreme.
My newer computers, running MacOS 10.6, have no problems.
The HP printing management queue app (HP 4100 Series, Version 4.3 (157.3), copyrighted 2003-2005) reports the following error:
"The process 'hppostprocessing' terminated unexpectedly on signal 5"

  • Printer Driver

I have used an HP LaserJet 4100n for years with an Intel MacPro runnning 10.6.8. Apple keeps pushing new printer drivers at me through software update and I go to great lengths to stick with what works. After a recent crash, my old driver (version 7.1 I think) disappeared and I can no longer find a link to the old driver. HP was no help whatsoever and told me that Apple is removing web links to legacy drivers. Anybody know where I can get a driver that works with my Snow Leopard system? FYI, I can print fine with a late 2013 iMac running Mavericks but I have a huge inventory of legacy files and need to print from the MacPro from time to time.

Google has over a million hits for hp legacy drivers.  Where exactly did you search?
I found this right on HP website - legacy drivers

  • Can't connect a printer to Mac OS 10.4.10

    Hi
I swapped over computers from my iMac flat panel (OSX Tiger) to a G4 digital audio running Tiger 10.4.10. I am having trouble connecting a printer. I have 2 printers a Laserjet 4100n and a HP PSC 1402 MFC. Both these printer worked fine on the iMac but when I installed GIMP 5.1.3 and the drivers for the 1402 Print centre found the printers but came up with this error messege:
An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer:
    server-error-service-unavailable
Does anyone know what this means? I've tried the HP forums and the Apple forums as well.
    Thanks in advance Johnmac

    Hi,
I'm having exactly the same problem since more than 4 months !
One day, all my printers disappaered from my printers list, and when I try to add them again, I get the message : "server-error-service-unavailable".
All the printers are network printers, so the connections are already Ethernet connections.
I tried resetting the printing system, but it still doesn't work.
In the "share" preferences, I'm not able to check the "Printers share" box, nore in the firewall settings... The boxes just don't want me to check them ! I'v got no prooblem with the other options, only with those concerning printers share... Can that be the reason why I can't add any printer ?
    Thank you very much !

  • Font Issue with MX & OS 10.5.7

    Hi
I am a long time user of Freehand and have just upgraded my laptop to the latest 17 Macbook pro running OS 10.5.7.
I am having a problem when printing files from Freehand 11.0.2 in that a large number of my fonts are defaulting to courier when printed both to hard copy on my HP Laserjet and as a pdf. The same fonts print fine out of Illustrator and other programs.
The fonts are activated and I am able to convert them to paths within Freehand.
Everything else within Freehand appears to be running fine.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated as we have a huge number of files in Freehand that we use regularly.
    Thanks

I had a similar problem when I went from 10.4 to 10.5. Converting to paths is certainly an option, but it does complicate matters. Here is my experience, previously posted:
Using FreeHand 11.0.2 and Mac OS 10.5.6, some fonts weren't printing for me to my HP LaserJet 4100n. Printing to PDF via Distiller 9 or the system usually worked OK. After trying many different experiments (i.e. tearing my hair out), I came upon something that worked. I put the fonts I wanted into the /Library/Fonts folder. The permissions of those fonts were set to:
    me = read and write
    staff = read only
    everyone = read only
I opened the info window for those fonts, unlocked the padlock, and changed the permissions to:
    me = read and write
admin = read only (this had to be manually added using the "+" sign)
    everyone = read only
I deleted the permissions for "staff", though I'm not certain this was required. Locked the padlock, closed the info window, and so far they are printing happily. It's important that all of the permissions for the system be set correctly, so using Disk Utility to verify and repair them is also a good idea. That won't fix the permissions for an individual font file, so you have to do it manually.
The issue seems to be with older fonts that I've used for years, not newer ones that come with the system. Since I did this back in March, I haven't had any problems printing the fonts I use.

  • Canon ip4000r stopped printing over usb after update to 10.5.7

    hi there!
i have a canon pixma ip4000r which is connected to my macbook pro via usb.
since the update to 10.5.7 it stopped printing. printer's joblist receives a printjob, displays "printing" but nothing happens. i tried to reinstall the printer but systems preferences are running very slowly/freezing when i plugin the usb cable. when i unplug it everything runs normal.
in addition canons printer tool crashes while trying to connect to the printer.
i have some networkprinters (hp laserjet 4100n) installed as well but they are running fine.
    any suggestions?
    thanks,
    paul

    Hello Paul,
I installed the 7 update yesterday on my test Mini using the Combo installer and saw some interesting results.
First of all, any USB printer queue was removed from the Printers list. Only the Adobe PDF and network printer queues remained.
Also, a number of Canon BJPrinter files were updated and added, some of them later versions of existing files, such as the Canon IJ Printer Utility. The strange behavior here was that older versions of the same file were left in the same folder and this is what I believe could be causing you problems.
So, I would suggest you try the following.
    Unplug the iP4000 USB cable
Navigate to Mac HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter and trash the entire contents of this folder.
Navigate to Mac HD/Library/Receipts and trash any Canon IP4000 files.
Empty the Trash and restart the Mac.
Run the iP4000R v4.8.3 driver installer again. This will add the files you need for your printer back into the BJPrinter folder.
Plug the iP4000 USB back into the Mac and see if the printer automatically adds to your printer list. It can take about a minute but if it doesn't then try to add it. Don't be surprised when you do try to add it you get a message stating the printer is already installed.

  • Adobe Reader X Printing Problem

I upgraded to 'X', am running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 4100N printer. I mostly print out sets of loan documents, average 100 pages per set, mixed legal and letter size pages. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, legal size pages were randomly not printing the bottom 1/3 or so of each page. Since I travel to have these docs signed, it created quite a problem for me when it first happened. I could print smaller batches (1-5 pages, legal size only) and it worked, but printing the whole set, mixed paper sizes, I continued to have this problem.
Luckily I had kept an installation for Adobe Reader 9, so I uninstalled 'X' and reinstalled '9'. voila - the problem disappeared.
But I am hoping someone from Adobe will read this and work on this problem.

I can confirm this problem.  Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.
One of my clients is a travel notary and ran into this issue today.  All print settings were set up per Adobe's instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332720.html#main_Mixed_sizes when the problem occurred.  We had recently upgraded to Reader X, and had never had the probem before.  I eventually traced it to a problem in the new version.  Uninstalling and installing version 9.4 fixed the issue.  I cannot include the actual document due to privacy concerns, but I will include a screen shot that has been sanitized.

  • NT_STATUS_NO_MEMORY errors when printing in Tiger to Windows printers

I cannot print to any windows printers using Tiger 10.4.4
Here is a list of printers I have tried:
HP Laserjet 4100N served from Windows 2003 server.
Xerox Docucenter 2240 PS served from Windows 2003 server.
HP Laserjet 4000N served from Windows 2003 server.
Samsung ML-1710 served from Windows XP Professional workstation.
I will get either one of the following errors:
    NTSTATUS_LOGONFAILURE
    NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY
This happens both at home (the XP workstation) and at work (the win2K3 server). None of the Macs at work (6 all running tiger) can print to any of the printers, they all could print under OS 10.3.9.
Something seems really broken with the Samba printing subsystem.
I can mount fileshares off the same machine with the same credentials so I'm quite confident it is not an authentication issue.
I also have no difficulty finding the printer, I simply cannot print to it.
I have used native drivers and gimp-print drivers all with no success.
Also note that gimp-print drivers do not work on Intel based Macs (they just crash).

I can't use the HP JetDirect protocol for some odd reason it fails to connect when I specify the IP address of the printer.
I get a NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY error printing to the LaserJet 4000N next to my office using the SAMBA printing mechanism. This occurrs with every Mac in the building.
It would be really nice if Apple could update the samba version to the latest release from samba.org to at least see if this fixes the issue.
From the looks of these forums, there appears to be plenty of problems with Windows printers with the 10.4.4 update.
