HP LaserJet 4200 Duplexing Issue

I have a LJ 4200 with the duplexer. I can to long-edge duplexing without a problem, however, when I try to do short-edge duplexing the image on the page gets cut off 2/3 the way across the page.
All of my software is up to date, and I have the latest printer drivers installed.
Any ideas?

Is the computer it was installed on connected to the wireless network?
The computer being connected by Ethernet to the network is the most likely cause of the issue you are experiencing.
What brand and model is the router?

  • HP Laserjet M5035mfp duplex issue

    Hi,
I have a LJ M5035mfp device. When sending a duplex job to the machine, one side of the page the print quality is fine. The other side of the page the printing is faded.
I have changed toner, fuser, duplex unit and transfer roller.
    Any suggestions would be welcome!

Try to make a two sides copy of a document, and see if you get the same results.

  • Re: OSX Lion printer problems with HP Laserjet 4200

I have updated the driver for the HP LaserJet 4200 series printer to ver. 18.2. The computer communicates with the network, via a Linksys Wireless-G printserver, WPSM54G, and is sending something to the printer, but the printer prints only what appears to be identifying information, then raw code. Has anyone else had this problem? I use this OSX with three other printers, two of them wireless, with no problem.

Just found an email HP Support sent to me back in January 2008, about this issue
    "Hello Hunter,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
There currently is not proper driver for 10.5, so it is surprising that the printer is printing correctly on your Mac from any application.
Your issue cannot be resolved until the 10.5 driver is developed and released.

  • LaserJet 4200 won't collate in Windows 7 32 bit

Love my sturdy LaserJet 4200.  But now that the computer is upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit, we can't get it to collate.  Many computer savvy people have worked on it and no one can solve it, and unfortunately this is a pretty important issue to us.  It looks like other people in this forum have collating issues and no one seems to have been able to come up with a solution.
Do we need a driver update?  I don't think so, but...  I have seen the recommended steps for using Windows Update to get a driver.  There are many for 4200 but they all seem to have a date of 2006 (pre-Windows 7).  I am currently using driver HP LaserJet 4200/4300 PCL6.
Are there any other suggestions?  Or is this just a bug we have to cope with/consider getting a new printer?  Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem with a LJ 4200 installed on Windows 8.1.
I downloaded the Universal Print Driver for PCL5 from HP at: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=84030&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4132.
Download the PCL5 driver (not the PCL6) and save the file to a folder where you can find it quickly.
    Then:
    1) Turn your printer ON (make sure it is connected to the PC) and open Control Panel in Windows;
    2) Click on "Add Printer"
    3) When the Add Printer window opens - do nothing until the search completes - then DO NOT select any of the printers in the "Select a Printer" box - instead, click on the prompt at the bottom of the window that says "The printer that I wanted isn't listed" - this will open a window titled "Find a Printer by other Options" - Select the last option at the bottom of this  window titled "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" and then hit NEXT.
    4) A new window opens titled "Choose a Printer Port" - select the port where you printer is connected and hit NEXT.
    5) A new window opens titled "Install the Print Driver" - DO NOT chose any of the printers  listed, instead click on the HAVE DISK button.
    6)  An "Install From Disk" window will open - at the bottom if this window where it says: "Copy Manufacturer's files from" click on BROWSE - then navigate to the folder where you save the PCL5 Driver you downloaded and click on the file name - it should highlight a file in the "File Name:" box at the bottom of the window - mine was named:  hpbuio120l.inf  (if not just open the folder and select the driver named: hpbuio120l.inf)
    7) After you select the driver file in the step above, hit OPEN - the INSTALL FROM DISK window will open - Click on OK and the driver will install the new Printer.
Once the new printer is installed - go to Control Panel, open Devices and Printers, right click on the new Printer (make sure it is Set As Default) then from the same Right Click Menu select "Printer Properties" and scroll down to "Mopier Mode" and make sure it is disabled.
You should now be able to print collated copies from the LJ 4200 without any problem whatsoever.  Good luck.

  • Hp Laserjet 4200, Printer Virus or Software Failure?

Have been using a HP Laserjet 4200/4300 series, very few issues, very good printer.
    Background:
Small office, this printer is attached to my computer but able to be used by 4 other machines on the network.
We are using everything from windows ME to Windows 7 xp.
    What happened:
all day long we were printing & by the afternoon it just stopped.  At that time only 2 computers had sent in print requests.  Mine was sending Page prints of gov web sites using the latest version of mozilla firefox  and I am running Windows 7 xp and the 2nd was sending Word Perfect docs and its on XP.  In going through the Que, the printer says they all now have unspecified errors and will not print.
    Printer/Proterties/General - print test page
    Will not print
Hardware/Menu/Print test, cleaning, Menu map.. all print
    Device is Working
    Paper is full
    Ink is in
Since then I have cleared the Que and sent several different types of things to print from all different types of programs.. the print manager say they all have errors.
So.. Printer Virus or Software Failure?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
thank you for reading.  Sorry for not being more technically savvy.
    Please ask for any details.

Just got off the phone with a friend (who is a  lot smarter than I) and recommended turning off the printer, then truning it back on and holding down the mainuser button (the one with the check mark) and letting the printer do its thing.
just printed the test page..  so good news there.  Still not sure what exactly happened..

  • HP LaserJet 4200 Printer outputting blank page (with creases) before printing

    HP LaserJet 4200 Printer
Keeps outputting a blank page, with creases in the paper (about the middle of page), before it prints the intended page.
This happens at random, but quite often. We have been using this printer for years without any issues. This has been happening for about the last few weeks.

Hi have the same problem with my HP LJ4200.
The problem is intermitent , blank page with with creases before the document
Have you found a solution ?
    thanks !

  • HP 4200 duplex printer takes several minutes to be found

    Hi,
My HP 4200 duplex printer developed connectivity issues after sending it in to PC connection for repair. The Connectivity issues are not PC Connections fault, they merely changed the IP address for their PC for testing and since then I have not been able to solve two issues.
Printer is connected straight to one computer via an ether net cable
    1) When the printer is running no computers can go on the internet via airport, when my or other household computers are on line, the printer cannot print. This system worked fine for over a year, Kathy at Crocker.com, my Internet provider was an expert at connectivity issues but she has moved and no one there knows how to solve this, nor does PC Connection or anyone on the forum at HP.
    2) A few weeks ago there was a software update that included a new driver for one of my printers, since then, it takes 2- 5 minutes for the computer to find the HP Laser Jet 4200 duplex printer. (My smaller HP laser Jet P2055dn connected via USB prints normally).
    Suggestions?

I am also having this problem. When trying to reboot, I get an endless cycle of the BIOS screen, then "MACHINE ERROR", then back. Running the same dmesg command as snoxu results in a similar error message. I am forced to shutdown by holding the power button. Upon rebooting, I get an error message that all extensions have been turned off (using Gnome Shell). Then I have to logout and login.
Shutting down and then restarting works fine.

  • Printing error on Laserjet 4200 PCLXL with Adobe Reader 8.1.2

While printing on our HP LaserJet 4200 with Adobe Reader 8.1.2, here is the error printed by my printer:
    PCL XL error
    Subsystem: KERNEL
    Error: IllegalOperatorSequence
    Operator: SetPageScale
    Position: 3
I use PCL6 driver and if I use the PCL5 one, I only get a portion of my 11/17 pdf. The PS driver seams to be OK. I didn't have this problem in Adobe Reeader 7.0.8. And I don't have this problem on older LaserJet printers (4000 or 4100) or newer's (4250).
With PCL 5 or Post Script, it kinda print, but Adobe Reader is not able to get the write size of paper. If I have a 8½/14 or 11/17 document, It can only print in 8½/11 correctly unless I go in printer properties and select manually the size of paper that I want to print on (or the size of the document). I can't keep that resolution because it's to difficult for most users and that they'll keep asking why their document doesn't print in the format it was built in.
Also, with PCL6, when I choose the write size of paper in the printer's properties, it prints correctly.
I tried to update the driver on our server, but the paper type of all our 4200 switched to "Etiquette" and we didn't want to pass on all our computers to reconfigure it back to "Normal paper". I also tried to update the firmware on another of our 4200s, but the problem persisted.
Can you help me to find out what's going on in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and how I can solve that problem??

    Hi,
We are also struggling with the same problem after upgrading the portal to NW04s SPS15.  It is consuming 2 to 3 min for opening the PDF form in ESS under Travel & Expenses.
We are also with same version of Adobe i.e.8.1.2
    Still waiting for the solution,
    Regards,
    Venu

  • HP LaserJet 4200 -- manual feed tray not working after 10.6 install

    Hi all...
One of my users pointed this out to me. I'm looking for confirmation (or a solution)?
We have an HP LaserJet 4200 printer added to our mac clients as an IP printer. Under 10.5.8, printing to "Tray 1 (Manual)" goes where you think it would -- to the manual feed tray.
Upgrading to 10.6.1? Manual print jobs are going to the internal "Tray 3".
It's the same behavior if I use the 10.6.1 "5.3.0" printer driver or the HP Printer Update 2.1 updated "5.4.0" version.
Can anybody else confirm/deny the problem with their 4200 printer under 10.6? If you can confirm it, do you know of a fix (short of rolling back to 10.5.8).
A remove and readd of the printer did not help here. Unfortunately.
    Thanks!
    - Steve

    Resolved this two ways:
    1) the "gutenprint" driver worked.
    2) The larger problem was the manual tray had been set to "A4" size.
I used the web admin interface to set this to "any size" and "any" type and that fixed the problem with the 5.4.0 "LaserJet 4200 Series" default printer driver...
Luckily, somebody else on campus had one of these printers and we were able to compare the printer setting differences to figure this out.
    I hope this helps somebody!

Please help:( I am unable to print to my hp laserjet 4200. I noticed the problem after installing SL. I receive the message "unable to connect to printer". Any suggestions? Bear with me, I am not an IT wizard.

  • Cp2025n color laserjet manual duplexing side two portrait & landscape transition issue

I regularly print the same documents. Each document has a portrait section, a landscape section, a portrait section then a landscape section, then a portrait section. I manually duplex the job (because I did not buy a duplexer and I am saving trees).
On the first side of the page, everything works great... job runs straight through the printer then I am prompted to insert the half printed pages into tray 1 and push OK on the printer.  The first portrait section is printed. The printer stops on the first landscape page and prompts me to load paper into tray 1 (even though it is already there) and push OK again, I do so, and it proceeds till the job switches to portrait mode, prompts me to load paper into tray 1 (even though it is already there) and push OK again, I do so, and it proceeds till the job switches to landscape mode, etc... making me babysit the printer as it prints the second side of each job.
I have multiple different print jobs with the similar layout... portrait, landscape, portrait, landscape, and finishing with portrait. All of them behave the same. The number of pages in the portrait section and landscape section vary by job and within job. The prompt from the printer is always at the transition point between portrait & landscape mode.  The printer only stops when printing side two of the page.
I believe I am running the most current drivers and software on my PC for the printer. The update task runs regularly and is not informing me that there is new software available. The only indication of what firmware is running on the printer is this info
    Firmware Datecode: 20100512
This strikes me as a printer driver issue... Anybody got any other ideas? Anybody noticed this same issue? Can someone from HP test this out for themselves and verify there is a problem? I have tried searching the forums but every post I have found so far is not on point.
    Thanks!

  • HP LaserJet 1320 Duplex Printing Not working with Windows 7

    Hi
I've just bought a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have an HP LaserJet 1320 printer (Prod no. Q5927A, SN CNGW53RLRY).
I cannot find driver that works the same way as the previous driver HP LaserJet PCL5. If I use this driver and can still get duplex printing but it will only print one copy at a time.
If I upgrade to HP Universal Printing PLC (or PLC v5) I can print multiple copies but not duplex printing. I have searched high and low through the HP site but to no avail.
Any help and advice will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I've seen this same issue with my printers (other HP printers) whereby the default setting to support the Duplexing hardware was set to 'off'.
A quick method to check this is look at what the setting is for Duplex hardware in the Device Settings tab, and if it's not set, correct it.
      Printer Properties:
From the 'Start' orb -> [Devices & Printers] -> right click on your Printer icon -> select 'Printer Properties' -> click on 'Device Settings' tab.
You should see a dialog similar to the mine (attached): look for the 'Duplex unit (for 2-sided printing)' and see if it's set to "Not Installed":
--> in either case, click on 'Not installed' and from the dropdown box, select 'Installed'... Click 'OK' to accept the changes and close the dialog.
    Printing Preferences:
again, right click on your Printer icon -> select 'Printing Preferences' -> click on 'Advanced' tab.
-->Check to see if there is a 'Duplex Hardware' or '2-sided printing' option in here: mine doesn't show one but thougth I'd mention it nonetheless.
Click on the 'Finishing' tab and select 'Print on both sides'...or simply test print a multi-page document and set those preferences on-the-fly.
Let me know if this helps...

  • Setting HP LaserJet 2200d Duplex Doesn't work

Machine is fully updated via Software Update as of 7/15/2008 (10.5.4), including the 7/15/08 HP Drivers.
    Printer: HP LaserJet 2200d
    Interface: USB
    Driver: /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/HP LaserJet 2200.gz
I installed the printer and ensured it is using the correct driver.
Open the print queue, select Info, select Driver, set the Duplex Unit checkbox and set the RAM to 8-15MB to match printer's 8MB RAM.
    Open any PDF using Preview.
    Command-P to print
Set pages to print From 1 to 2 (to save resources, has no effect on this behavior)
    Open Layout
    Set Duplex to Long-edge binding
    press Print
Resulting job is printed single-sided on two sheets.
I use Preview and PDFs as an example application. Every application I have tried prints single-sided when long-edge is set.
Interestingly, if I issue the following shell command, duplexing is properly enabled:
    lp -P 1-2 -o sides=two-sided-long-edge samefile.pdf
Also, when I print to this print queue over the network from a Tiger 10.4.11 machine, duplexing is properly enabled.
    Is there a fix?

Yes, I was using a "No banner" preset here at home, too. Not exactly sure why.
Printing using "Standard" then setting two-sided worked.
Exiting Preview then using "Last Used Settings" also resulted in duplex printing.
I wonder if this has something to do with a printer preset being migrated from a 10.4 account or something....
Since deleting that preset, I haven't been able to get it to fail either. Even creating new presets, selecting it, then adding duplex.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2550 - Duplexing Broke

Ok, I have just downloaded the latest drivers from HP, which came out Jan 28 of this year, and downloaded Apple's updated HP LaserJet drivers, yet the drivers don't allow duplexing.
This is becoming infuriating, I am not going back to using a IMB Clone as a Print Server because of the PC side duplexing works. On the Mac side with 10.5.1 installed it doesn't.
I need to know an ETA upon when this will be fixed, I can not afford to not have duplexing for much longer. I hate to say it but unless HP fixes this issue this may be the last time I ever buy an HP printer.

    None needed, printer imploded.

  • Laserjet 4200 drivers for Windows 7 64bit

ok...ive upgraded to Windows 7 64bit to test on our network and come to find HP is lacking on the drivers for my laserjet!!!
I need a solution for this.
    thank you

In Windows 7 Prof 64 bit I got my HP 4200DTN to work kind of. In Windows install a network printer, have it look for the driver in Windows 7 prof 64 bit. Now with that said it will make it print, duplex  BUT if you have an envelope feeder like I do you are SOL, THANKS TO HP. Their solutions is to buy one of their cheap Chinese printers. I will not do that because the HP 4200DTN will print and does a good job in my network. Before I buy one of their cheap Chinese piece of crap I will get rid of Windows. Still trying to find a work around. The HP printer driver web page has a Universal Printer Driver for the HP 4200 but a lot of features are not supported. Tray 1 envelope feeder ( no support ) you can take the feeder off and feed tray 1 by hand to print envelopes HANDY!!! Just like starting your car with a crank!!! Would not hurt HP to provide drivers for the HP4200DTN, with the envelope feeder. They are so busy trying to SELL, SELL, SELL the new Chinese cheap crap. HP had a problem with their DeskJets in the 90's, paper feed rollers and gears broke. They talked me into a HP 8600Pro Premium, going to send it back. I am going to try my hand at fixing my HP OfficeJet 7310 All-In-One that quit working. It has been a good printer since purchase 6 years ago.  I puchased a parts machine today. With any kind of luck I will have the needed parts to make my HP 7310 live. Don't need their cheap Chinese Junk. They don't want to have the service they used to provide. Spend all day on the phone and get transfered all over the world and back again, no help. Sick of it!
