HP LaserJet 4250 PCL error

Hi there,
I'll try and provide some background information first:
We use a HP LaserJet 4250 as a network printer and documents are sent to this printer via a server. Thousands of reports are printed daily and it is a mission cirtical printer (although we do have a backup).
The other day i recieved a call that amongts a few hundred documents (which had printed overnight) there was a single sheet of paper with the following error on it on the top right hand corner (and the rest of the sheet was blank):
PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNAL
Error: IllegalTag
Operator: 0x4d
Position: 5578
We have never come accross this error before (we've had this printer for a very long time), and it has never occured since then. I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on this matter? The reason i ask is because this printer is mission critical we dont want to have it go down; and would like to provent something serious from happening.
If anyone needs anymore information about the printer, I can try my best and see what I can find.
Thanks in advance!

This document may shed some light on the errors:

    Hey hkhp4250!
I don't beleive the 4250 is an ePrint capable printer. If you are trying to use something like the ePrint Home & Biz app or something, let me know and I will certainly do my best to help you out.
    Hope this helps!

  • HP Laserjet 4250 Network Printer Connection Issues

    Hello
We have a HP 4250 Laserjet network printer set up as a shared printer on our Windows Server 2003 32-bit print server.
We are using the latest PCL 5e 32-bit drivers and have now added the PCL 5e 64-bit drivers to accomodate a new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Laptop. However, although it appears to pull the driver across properly, it fails to communicate and complete the installation with the following error:
"Printer Cannot Connect Operation Failed' error 0000007e
I have apoplied the hotfix addressed which addresses a similar problem but this made no difference.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981070/en-gb
Any ideas what I could try next?
    Kind Regards

  • IP Printing and HP LaserJet 4250

I'm having difficulties to print to HP LaserJet 4250 via LPD protocol. Each and every time I try to print, the print queue stops saying "Jobs stopped".
If I tail CUPS error log I see this:
    I [25/Oct/2006:15:00:29 +0300] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/cgpdftops (PID 5646) for job 2.
    I [25/Oct/2006:15:00:29 +0300] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops (PID 5647) for job 2.
    I [25/Oct/2006:15:00:29 +0300] Started filter /Library/Printers/hp/filter/hppostprocessing (PID 5648) for job 2.
    I [25/Oct/2006:15:00:29 +0300] Started backend /usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd (PID 5649) for job 2.
    E [25/Oct/2006:15:00:30 +0300] PID 5649 stopped with status 1!
I [25/Oct/2006:15:00:30 +0300] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more.
I have deleted the printer and set it up again on Printer Setup Utility and downloaded new drivers from HP web site. It just doesn't work. Printing to old HP 2100 with LPD works fine so looks like Mac OS X does not like HP 4250 printer. Setting LogLevel to "debug" on CUPS does not offer any clues. What gives?

Yes I have, always the same error - please look at my first post.
I'm not sure if this is related to upgrade to 10.4.8, I updated from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 at the same time the printed was switched to LaserJet 4250. To find out, I'm planning to grab a vacant Mac mini and test with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and then try 10.4.
A little Googling releaved the same error "PID XXXXX stopped with status 1!" shows that people have had the same problem with some Linux distros (Fedora, Ubuntu) - even with inkjet printers. Unfortunately the CUPS logs are not verbose enough to give details about what goes wrong. Apple documentatiion does not indicate CUPS was changed with 10.4.8 Update.
On the other hand, I discoved all the other printers on the server use WinPrint as printing engine but HP 4250 used HPZPP3zw. Default data type was RAW with both engines. But changing it to WinPrint had no effect.

  • I need older firmware for laserjet 4250 V.33.21.FF Firmware Date code: 20100718 08.180.3

I have an HP laserjet 4250 and am looking for the following firmware if anyone has it let me know please.

ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by
ICRC or ABRT error as described in the section called “ATA/ATAPI device error (non-NCQ / non-CHECK CONDITION)”.
Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.
On some controllers, command timeout. In this case, there may be a mechanism to determine that the timeout is due to transmission error.
Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

  • Hp Laserjet 4250

I have been having an issue with an older HP Laserjet 4250. It is smudging a little mostly at the top of the page in the middle. I have replaced the fuser, the toner cartridge, the transfer pad and the dc controller. Could the issue be with the power supply? I am running out of things to replace on the old girl.

  • HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome

HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.

  • Unable to add HP Laserjet 4250 printer to my network

I've obtained an HP LaserJet 4250 printer to add to my home network. Plugged in the network cable, came up as an option on my "add printer" list. Clicked, was recognized, added to menu. When I try to print, item hangs in the print que and nothing happens. Printing out settings page from the printer, it appears the printer has an IP address not on my network! How to change the address. BTW, how do I find a list of IP addresses assigned by by Airport Extreme? It no longer seems to be an option in Airport Utility (v6.2)!
Using Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.3), iMac, Airport Extreme/Time Machine connected to Netgear ProSafe Gigabit switch.

Download the latest Driver and install it could solve the problem.

  • HP Laserjet 4100 PCL 5E keeps "phoning home" and tying up our ISDN line

We have a couple of HP Laserjet 4100 printers that connect to the hospital via an ISDN line (can't upgrade at this time as that is all that is available at that location) and which we pay for by the minute (not much but still by the minute).   The problem we are having is that the printer keeps "phoning home" about every 30 seconds or so unless we unplug them.  The queue for them is located here at the hospital so I'll assume the printer is "phoning home" so that it can update the status in the queue and whether or not it is online/offline.   We have other HP printers out in the field that don't have this problem and yes they do show offline in our queue they still work fine and have worked fine for over a year now.
My question is how does not stop the printer from constantly "phoning home" so that it can report its status.   The current driver we are using the is the Laserjet 4100 PCL 5E.   Thanks!

  • HP LaserJet 4250 paper loading speed has been dramatically slowed

We have a HP LaserJet 4250 and one day, paper was jammed via Tray 1. We managed to solve this but after this incident, paper loading via Tray 2 has the exact same speed as what would happen on Tray 1.
We tried to reset to factory setting on the printer but it wouldn't work. It prints fine but paper loading speed from Tray 2 is the same speed as the Tray 1. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

  • Which Application driver for HP LaserJet 5000 PCL

    Hi all,
I have to configure a hp laserjet 5000 PCL printer. Its configured at O/S LEVEL. From the application which printer type should i choose. I have to print Bi-Di Reports.
Plz if any 1 using this printer, which driver is used at application level.
    Regards
    Taher

    Taher,
I never configured the same type of printer, so I am not sure which one to go with. You could browse the list of (HP 5XXXXX) drivers and see if any helps, but since you cannot afford bouncing the CM, then it would be more helpful to log a SR.
