HP LaserJet 4500
I have airport express and HP color laserjet 4500- how can I connect this printer to print wirelessly to my apple computers ( imac and powerbook g4) and my pc running xp ( which has a wireless usb adapter)?
power book runs panther
Thanks!
imac runs tiger
powerbook g4, imac Mac OS X (10.3.9)
I can answer my own question- what I did was hooked up a wireless network with the xp and a belking wireless router which hooked itself up to the airport and now I can print to the LJ 4500 from my macs running panther or tiger

HP Laserjet 4500 desktop drivers not finding scanner after install.
First I have installed the
HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One Printer - G510a HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
for a HP Laserjet 4500 Desktop
however after the installation has been completed and the section to where you can connect as a USB or wireless is given. I have selected to connect with a USB and the scanner will not show as connected when the installed of drivers have been checked and ready.
I have checked the device manager to see if the were installed drivers for the scanner but still not shown. I have checked to see if the scanner was in the view scanners and cameras menu and still none is connected.
I have powered off the HP and reconnected to another USB and reboot still not being recognized.
I am installing the wrong driver? Is there a step that I am missing? Can you help with a link to the correct software and or driver?
Thank you for your help and time!@IAKELOC

Color Laserjet 4500 on Windows 7 - 64 bit Share with XP - 32 bit Need Additional 32-bit Drivers
Here's the setup:
Desktop: Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit with Color Laserjet 4500, shared, connected and working fine. The name of the driver is HP Color LaserJet 4500 PCL 5.
Laptop: Windows XP Professional - 32 bit.
No network problems. Laptop sees the printer, but can't connect without the correct additional 32-bit drivers installed on the desktop. The only drivers I've been able to find are listed here. When I try to add under host printer properties/sharing/additional drivers, none of the downloaded .inf files are accepted.
Since Windows 7 installed a perfectly good 64-bit driver, there must be a compatible 32-bit driver that cab be added to allow the XP laptop to connect to this printer- but I have not been able to find it!
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Rob
This question was solved.
View Solution.I would suggest installing the PCL6 driver on your XP machine, then on the XP machine do the following: Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes, Add a Printer, Next, Local Printer, Next, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, Have Disk, point to the directory where the driver was installed (default C:\clj4500pcl6win2kxp).

Color LaserJet 4500 - permanently CALIBRATION EXECUTING
I've had a Color LaserJet 4500 for a good few years now. It's been thoroughly reliable, and the only attention it's needed has been occasionally changing the consumable items. But now it's developed an irritating fault...
When restarting after being in standby, or when powering up from cold, the printer starts to initialise as normal, but then reaches the final calibration stage and sits there with the message CALIBRATION EXECUTING showing, and never gets past this to the Ready state.
It's been doing this for the last few days (luckily, I have another printer I can use). It's usually possible to get past this stage by power cycling the printer, until it finally makes it past Calibrating through to Ready. This may take a number of attempts, and if you know the 4500 and how long it takes to initialise and warm-up, you'll know that this means many minutes
I do have a copy of the Service Manual, but can't find any information on the problem.
Can anybody give me a clue?
Many thanks in advanceI plugged the external drive with Snow Leopard (it's set to always boot in 64 bit kernel), and booted up iMac with it. It started fine, but it decided to use 32 bit kernel anyway. This is iMac version 7.1 with 64 bit EFI and 4 GB of RAM. It should technically be possible to boot 64 bit kernel, but doesn't work. I won't even try my Aluminum Macbook .

Hp laserjet 4500 color printer connection questions
I've got a HP 4500 color laser printer which I bought in 2000. Model # 4084A Serial number jphcf07074. I used it at my business on a network with a ethernet card connection. The business is closed, and the ethernet card has died. I am trying to connect this printer to my computers at home, but they do not have the connections for the standard printer cable. Is there a converter to USB or other idea on how to connect? My laptop runs on XP and my desktop runs Vista. Thanks.
There are USB to Parallel convertors, but results vary greatly and I have not seen a model that is reported to work well in Vista.
Your best bet may be to replace the network card, you might give eBay a look.

Before upgrading to 10.6 this printer was working fine. Now it will not print. It is a network printer. I removed it from the printer list and tried to re-install it however it will not work. The network sees the printer but when I choose the driver it can not complete the install.
Any Ideas?Similar Issue with HP Laserjet 4700 and 10.6.4.
ISSUE: Files created in Landscape (horizontal) layout consistently print only 2/3rds of the page (horizontally) in InDesign and will not print double-sided from Quark Xpress. Pdf's generated from these apps create the same issue. Straight postscript files created using Acrobat 9, and then Distilled into .pdf's also generate the identical issue.
The printed material consistently measure 8.5 inches wide, no matter what combination of page orientations I set.
(1) I upgraded User A to 10.6.4
(2) I downloaded and installed the latest HP drivers from the Apple website.
(3) I set up User B (10.5.8) to share HP 4700 over the network after Option 1 and 2 failed.
The files print perfectly from User A when accessing the shared HP 4700 from User B, but consistently fail when printing directly to the HP 4700 from 10.6.4 (User A).
HP's support website has no listing for a current firmware upgrade.
The HP 4700dn is a recent purchase (within 4 months).
Sidenote: I wonder what would happen if I shared the 4700 from User A's 10.6 machine and then printed the file from User B's 10.5 machine ...
Ideas / Suggestions / Humor is all appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello all,
I have an off-site user that is try to add an old HP Laserjet 4500 to their new i Mac via a parallel to USB adapter. The printer is not recognized by the iMac, there is an HP driver that is available and the user says that he has installed it. The Laserjet 4500 is not on the supported printers list for 10.5, is it not possible to set this printer up? Could it be the adapter? I know it could be set up as a network printer, but the user doesn't want to do that. Any ideas?Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Parallel printing support has always been dicy on Macs, and there are two third party supported configurations known to work for a limited number of Parallel printers in Mac OS X:
http://www.keyspan.com/products/up6c/
http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/
If you aren't using either, or can use either with that printer, consider replacing the printer with one that is known to work with your operating system version*:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
And selling the Laserjet.

Can't Print in Color to Laserjet 4550?!
Connecting to an HP Color Laserjet 4500 via AppleTalk, and it defaults to black and white output all the time. If I manually change the colorsync profile sometimes it will print in color, but not always.
Anyone have this problem and know a fix?A bit more info. My wife changed her PC to a 2008 iMac. I have an old [10yrs] HP Color laserjet 4550. We have a hard wired network in the house connected via a Linksys router. My computer is a Dell PC laptop running XP, my son has a desktop PC running XP, my wife has a new iMac [2 mths old] running OS 10xxxxx. We do not have a network printer as the 4550 is not the n version. I want to connect the 4550 to the USB port on my wife's computer. The printer cable used to connect to the 25 pin Parallel port on her old PC. I bought a 25 pin parallel to USB converter, plugged it in to her USB port and nothing. I am an engineer but a Mac is a totally different animal to me. I was bought up with 8088, Pentium bases computers and am I right in thinking Appletalk is now an obsolete product? My wife can connect to the internet and has complete web functionality. The only thing I can't do with the Mac that I could do with the PC is get the printer working. I have downloaded the 4550 driver from the HP web site but I think it is for the new 4550 and not the old one. Am I better off just buying a new color printer and be done with it or is it possible for this old, but in my opinion fantastic, printer to be connected in the way I am proposing? All help appreciated

Reader XI, An Error Exists on this Page, Acrobat may not display
Hello,
I need some help please. The small business I work for as a contract employee uses Google Doc's, and we input our information into spreadsheets on a daily basis, from our home computers.
My home computer is XP Professional, and I am using Mozilla Firefox 36.0. I know we are using older computer programs, but until we can afford newer computers we have to use what we have.
Prior to today, when I printed off my spreadsheets in Google Doc's I had no problems, however tonight I just starting receiving this error message; An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the file.
I contacted my manager and had her send me a new spreadsheet, Invitation to Edit and input my information into the new spreadsheet.
I then go to my timesheet, and highlight all the rows that I would like to print, then I hit the print key, then I get the box that states, opening my timesheet which is a PDF which is an Adobe Acrobat Document, then I have this message, What should Firefox do with this file? I have it set to open with Adobe Reader (default) do this for files automatically like this.
The file downloads, however I have noticed that Adobe at times has a difficult time opening up right away and then I receive the error message that Adobe isn't responding and I end up closing the program out and restarting my computer.
This error message shows up just before the document begins to print and the document prints off with out any problems.
I even did a repair and that didn't help. My printer is a HP Color LaserJet 4500 and I've had no issues with Adobe prior to tonight.
Do I need to uninstall Adobe Reader & Re-install the program?
I can't send a copy of the file because it contains confidential material.
I've also posted this message on Adobe Acrobat, and have not received a response.
Please advise.
Thank you,Hello,
Thank you for responding. Sorry that my message is so confusing.
In Google Doc's we are able to highlight/selected portions of a PDF to print.
In Mozilla Fox under Applications, Portable Format Document (PDF) Use Adobe Reader (default).
So when I go to print off my timesheet, after I have highlighted everything, I get this message: I've chosen to open my timesheet which is: Adobe Acrobat Document from https//docs.google.com. What should Firefox do with this file? Open with Adobe Reader (default).
Do this automatically for files like this from now on. I click on the OK and the file downloads as a PDF file in Adobe Reader. On Google Doc's I click on the print key then I am able to open up my printer menu. Its after I click on the print key that I receive this message.
So what do I do please?
Thank you,
Maureen A. Mumm

This is very confusing to me; Adobe Reader does not have such a functionality (to print highlighted/selected portions of a PDF). Could it be that this is a functionality of Google Docs? Also I have never seen a message "What should Firefox do with this file?". I've got an Epson R1800 and a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5. I just tried printing an 11x17 print and it was extremely light (almost draft-like quality).
Using what version and what driver? There is a know problem with the Gutenprint drivers v5.1.3 that come pre-installed with Leopard. For Epson printers, they will default to Draft mode unless you specify a specific resolution. Later versions of the Gutenprint drivers have corrected this.
After downloading what I thought was the latest driver, I tried again, to no avail. Every time I try and load a new printer it only provides me with the Gutenprint selection.
What version of the Gutenprint drivers are you using? What settings have you tried under the Printer Features section of a print window? You need to make sure that you select the type of paper you are using to print. You should also set the *Image Type* (Output Control Common 2) for the type of job you are printing. If things are still too light, you can try increasing the Density or perhaps just the *Black Density* under Output Control Extra 1 2.
Any known work-arounds????
Have you tried the driver from Epson. It is not included with Leopard. You need to download and install it separately. Start at _http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp_ to find the driver download.

Hi,
I have forms which are printing all the grey color text in dark black, on xerox printers. When the output is of PS type, it works all well and good, but for PCL, it is printing all black.
I have been using hppcl5c.xdc for PCL. Do I need to have a xerox XDC? If yes, where can I get it or what changes do I need to make to the HP XDC in order to make it work?
Is there probably a specific property that needs to be changed in order to get the Gray text printed gray instead of black?
Is there anything else that I am probably not doing right?
Thanks.
Here is my XDC if you need:

KEEP a BREAK-POINT and debug the internal table lines how it is coming
some overlap must be happening ..check.
Also check the code where you are getting this text into internal table.
1) One way to debug smartform is to debug the Function Module of that smartforms.
If you want to debug particular smartform node that the solution would be,
insert a "Program Line" just above the node you want to debug and this program line write a normal abap breakpoint.
So whenever you call the smartforms, it will stop at this breakpoint and you can debug onwards.
2) SFTRACE can be used for debugging SMARTFORMS.

Photoshop CS4 won't print "Bad BoundingBox Error"
Can't seem to print from photoshop all of a sudden. Always worked before. Can't seem to find a solution to this anywhere other than a work around to use the print preview button which works but I don't feel I should have to do that. So I have two printers an HP Laserjet 4500 and a Xerox Phaser 8550. Both return the error Bad %%BoundingBox: comment seen!
Any help someone can provide would be much appreciated. I already tried clearing photoshop's preferences. I never had problems printing from PS before. There are lots of people with this issue in PS CS3 anc CS4. Trouble is, no one seems to have found a solution to it. One iMac we have here developed that issue out of the blue. Nothing we've tried has helped.
The only "solution" I've found noted on the web is to deactivate and uninstall PS. Then reinstall the OS and reinstall PS. If that doesn't do it, the only true fix is to wipe the drive and reinstall everything. -
How I fixed the 'network host busy" error
I've been down for a day solving the "network host busy' error.
First, I had fits trying to hook up this HP to my system. Here's the thread on that:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/858081-laserjet-4500-mac-osx-10-a.html
Once all that was done, it was working.
The system was off and sometimes unplugged over the course of the evening.
I could not get it to work again.
It turned out that somehow during the course of events, the ip number of the printer had changed. I printed out the configuration page directly from the printer's configuration menu, and reset the ip address to match the new one.
Protocol in this case was HP Jet Direct socket.
Hope that helps someone out there. It looks like there are a lot of people tearing their hair out over this message and that there is no one solution.I just found a solution to this problem and thought I would post it here, too.
I'm using a HP Photosmart C7280 with 10.6.1
Ever since updating to Snow Leopard, I kept receiving the "Network host busy" message. Today, I thought I would try running the network wizard feature on the printer itself, and after the printer connected to my router and I entered the password, the problem fixed itself. No more error message.
I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it did for me. Such an easy solution for such a headache-inducing problem.

10.4.8 and HP Printer conflict
I'd like to report a big, honking, piece of worthless equipment in my closet... My HP Color Laserjet 4500 was rendered inoperable after the recent update to OS 10.4.8. I called HP but they couldn't help me. It is clearly a driver/system conflict. The latest driver on the HP site was released last April. I tried Gutenprint, but it doesn't work either. The printer prints blank sheet after blank sheet and won't stop till I unplug it. Any ideas??
Thanks,
ShariOK...every time I rage at Apple, it turns out that there was a way out after all. This time, I went to the HP website, found the Knowledge Base (or whatever their's is called) document that walked me through the steps whenever "your printer is printing multiple blank documents."
I believe the mechanical shutter for the printing drum was stuck. I did a number of things to the printer, among them was tweaking the shutter by hand. Anyway, after following the steps and then reinstalling the printer software. Restarting. All is well in my world between my Macs and my 7 year old HP 4500n Color Laser Printer.
I hope everyone else has the same good fortune.
Thanks.

CS3 EPS files placed in Quark don't print????
Hello -
Been fighting some issues on CS3 over the last few months. It seems that I have a problem with placing EPS files from CS3 into Quark and successfully getting a printout. My Specs:
Mac 10.5.6, G4, 1GB RAM, Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2), Quark 7.5, HP Color Laserjet 4500.
Now, if I go to print a document with "Tiled" output from Quark, I can only have 1 CS3 EPS placed in the file, anything over 1 results in a Tile for the first page, but no second "Tile" when I should get two.
If I step and repeat a picture box with the same EPS 2 or more times, and it fits on one page, I get no output (the job spins up on the printer then quietly dies).
Now before you jump on Quark, I will say that AI CS2 files do NOT exhibit this behavior, it ONLY seems to apply to AI CS3 files.
If I use PDF over EPS, there is no problem. But I have years of legacy document that I do NOT want to have to create PDF's of my EPS files.
Anyone got some insight on this? Thanks!>But I have years of legacy document
If these art not CS 3 files then you are ok correct?
The only problem you say is with CS3 is that correct?
Save them back to CS2 as a copy, or upgrade to cS 4 perhaps but I do not know if that would fix the problem. The other thing I can think of that might be an issue is that at one time Quark needed to have Illustrator CS 3 EPS file saved with a tiff preview. Perhaps the type of preview is the cause of this problem.
Try changing the preview in the EPS Options.
Those are my thoughts on this I hope something in it will be helpful.
