HP LaserJet CP1025nw, toggle RFU and upgrade firmware

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of a HP LaserJet CP1025nw printer from version  20100510 to 20150114 through this file provided on the product page.  I've downloaded  the LJCP1020_FW_Upgrade_Security-20150114.exe and when I try to run it it says that I need RFU enabled othewise install will fail.  Then I've looked around to find how to toggle RFU and since the web panel (by typing in the address bar the IP of the printer) didn't contained that option, I ended up at this HP help page which was explaining how to do it.
In particular, since my moel doesn't have a screen, this is the procedure described:
I've tried to press Go and Yellow togheter, I've tried pressing first yellow then Go and viceversa and I tried all of these many times, but I didn't managed to get the step 1 "Ready and Attention leds blinking togheter" and therefore not even the color leds telling me if RFU is enabled or not.
I can't get the shown procedure to work and therefore I can't check and toggle RFU and I don't want to try update the firmware because I fear that if it fails (like the warning says) the printer will break or become unusable because of the incompletely upgraded firmware (I really don't know how the firmware behaves in case of error, I don't want a bricked printer).
So, how to solve this?

Hi @ANewUser, I see that you are concerned about continuing to run the firmware update on the printer, since the error message to turn off the RFU notification came up. I would like to help you. I have seen this message come up with other models, which also don't have a option for the settings to turn off the RFU and the firmware updated properly. If you are still in warranty and are concerned that it might cause issues with the printer, call into HP tech support and have them walk you through it over the phone. You can call technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html If you aren't having any issues with the printer, then you don't need to run the firmware update. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the Thumbs up button below.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.
Hi, Gemini02 Well I've tried contacting the support about this issue but they said my printer is out of warranty so they would fee me 25€  (about 30$)  to assist me because they couldn't solve the problem with the details I provided (which are the same I provided you plus the serial number and the product code and they told me that paid assistance might not be able to solve the problem, so I didn't took the risk.
I'm updating the firmware because of course we have problems on the printer, so I can't skip it.
Anyway, since I can't count on assistance, I could follow your advice and try to update the firmware anyway since you say you've seen models which don't have RFU at all and update succeeded, but in my case, if you check my screenshot, the official hp website has a guide to check RFU for my model (HP LaserJet CP1025nw) through go & yellow button, so I assume that RFU is available on my model and I can't get it to work. I see this problem happened to others ("instructions to check via go & yellow button did not perform as indicated." says the user).   But what if firmware update fails?
I'm at work, I can't just try to update and hope the printer will not brick and become unusable. I need to be sure if firmware updater software HP provides is safe in case of failure or not.
I don't want to get to the point that in the middle of firmware installing I get some "Firmware update failed!" and the printer is broken (because there's half of the firmware on it)
That said,  how should I proceed?

  • Laserjet CP1025nw color black and magenta lights blinking

Both the black and magenta cartridge lights are blinking even after replacing both with brand new genuine HP cartridges.  Printer will not print configuration page or status page.  It is completely unresponsive.
I've tried a full power reset - unplug, hold on powerkey for 30sec, plug back in...etc. To no avail.
    Any ideas?

    Hi @dmccullough,
I understand that after replacing the black and magenta toner, the lights for them are still blinking on the printer. I would be happy to help you.

You can find the blinking light pattern in this document and the solutions appropriate to the pattern you are experiencing. Blinking Lights on the HP LaserJet Pro CP1025 and CP1025nw Color Printers.
If you are still having issues, I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
I have provided a website to check the toner to make sure it is Genuine, it may be detecting the toner as a non-HP toner.

  • Question on router connecting extender with auto config and upgrading firmware

Hello I have a question regarding my linsys 160n and my wre54g extender. I am going to reset my linsys 160n with dd-wrt on it to the factory defaults, then set it up but leaving the security disabled to then setup my linsys wre54g extender since it has the auto configuration option. Once i have this completed would i be able to then enable the security on the router and the extender?
Also, just noticed that when i flashed the firmware from original to the dd-wrt i did not reset the router or reset to defaults before i upgraded the firmware to dd-wrt. Will this have issues for me? I thought i read you are supposed to reset or set to factory defaults before flashing firmware to dd-wrt

The best way to configure your WRE with your Routers Secured Wireless Network... Once you secured your Wireless Network on your Router..... Connect the WRE to the Router using an Ethernet Cable.
Hardwired anyone of your computer to the Router.... Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to the WRE setup page, you need to match the Wireless Settings which you have input on your Router... Once you configure all the settings on WRE... then unplug the Ethernet Cable from WRE and then unplug the Power from WRE.... Wait for 30sec and then re-connect the Power to WRE. One both the Lights are Blue on WRE, these means your WRE is configured properly and ready to use.

Everything is plugged in and I don't have any errors on the printer. Please help.

    Hi @EddieTr ,
I see you're experiencing issues updating the printer's firmware. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
    Power cycle the printer.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Print a Configuration Report to see which firmware version you have now. The latest Version is 20140129.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
Connect the USB cable from the printer directly to the computer and run the firmware update again, if your version is older. (don't use a USB hub or Dock)
Be sure to select the newly created print queue for the USB connection while using the tool.

  • Mavericks upgrade and Thunderbolt firmware update?

    Hi Guys,
last week I installed mavericks to an external hard drive and am currently using my early 2011 MBP as a dual boot using Lion and Mavericks. The main reason is because my audio software is no longer being updated in Lion.
My next purchase once I start using Mav full time, will either be a belkin thunderbolt dock or the akitio thunder dock. So I can run my hard drives, tv etc from the thunderbolt port.
Problem is, I'm unsure if I can update my thunderbolt port in my machine, and both docks will only run on thunderbolt two.
in about this mac my information is this:
    Model Identifier:     MacBookPro8,2
    Boot ROM Version:     MBP81.0047.B27
    SMC Version (system):     1.69f4
If I install the firmware updates here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
will I be able to update the firmware for my thunderbolt port from
    Firmware Version:     22.1
    Port Micro Firmware Version:     2.0.7
to whatever the latest one is, because I saw a post saying the latest frimware version is 25.1
    any advice/ideas?
    Cheers Iain.

I emailed Akitio and got this reply.
"The AKiTiO Thunder Dock is using Thunderbolt 1 but it's compatible with  both Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2, so you can use it on earlier  machines as well as the latest Thunderbolt 2 machines. However, the  minimum system requirement is Mac OS X 10.9, so you will need to use  Mavericks.
Regarding the EFI and SMC firmware, it's good to use the latest version  and we usually recommend to update it as part of our troubleshooting  process. The page you provided is the one I would have suggested too, so  you can follow the links there and update your machine.
Keep in mind that this will not upgrade your Thunderbolt port as you put it, it only updates the firmware of your system."

  • Laserjet CP1025nw color, unable to change Print density

    Hi,
I need to raise the "Print Density" to 5 (for pcb toner transfer) on my Laserjet
CP1025nw color, but when I open the printer properties I do not have that option
in the device settings tab, despite what is said on the help page of that model.
    OS: Windows XP
The printer is on the USB port.
The pilot is: HP LaserJet Professional CP1020 Series + last update
How can I change that setting ?
    Please help !!!
Thank you in advance for any help you can bring !
    All the best,
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

From what you describe you want to increase your toner density on your subsequent print jobs. First of all, if you have not, you should uninstall this printer and make sure that the drivers are the most up to date using the website I will link below :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4052972
Here you should also check for your firmware to be sure that it is up to date.
I would also, both before and after, check under "Printer Preferences" (not properties) and see if there is a way to change the density under the Paper/Quality tab.
Let me know if this helps you out!

Execute the Wizard on the computer where the CP1025nw Printer is correctly installed. After running the wizard press the “Info-Button” on the CP1025nw LaserJet for five seconds. The printer will print three info pages. The third info-page offers the Printer-Code you need for ePrint setup. The code is valid for 24h only. When time elapses you have to reprint the info-pages to get an actualized Printer-Code.
Step 5 – Get Printer Email for your CP1025nw LaserJet
In order ePrint on your CP1025nw Printer you need to assign an email address to your Printer. To do this, go to the following link: http://www.hpeprintcenter.com/
Log in with your HP-ID. If you don’t have one, register for a new account.
When logged in, click on “Add new Printer”-button. You will be asked to enter the Printer-Code. (On how to get the Printer-Code, see step 4).
While evaluating the Printer-Code, be patient, the program needs its time.
When the Printer-Code is accepted, you can assign an email address for your CP102nw5 LaserJet. Done this, your con print your CP1025nw Printer just by sending the documents per email to the email-address of your printer.
    Done.

  • Osx lion cannot establish connection to laserjet cp1025nw

I have a new LaserJet CP1025nw. After working a couple of times I get an error message (it just says 'error') when I try to print. If I open the HP Utility the device is listed  but no details of device information are displayed. If I switch off and on the printer,  details of the device information appear, but then if I go to 'all settings' 'information and support' I get a message that the computer cannont establish a connection with the printer. It feels like connection is only established  briefly when the printer is first switched on. Connection is via ethernet. The lights on the back of the printer show the connection is OK, and I have tried changing the cable.

Did all this twice with considerable hassle. Firmware update programme would hang. Only responded when I turned printer off and on before launching it. There are some changes in behaviour. If I try to print, I get an message that just says 'error', without referrring to the driver. The HP utility is able to report device information. At what point can I say this is broken? The amount of time I have spent trying to make it work with Lion is quite inordinate (compared with less than a minute to install my old Epson C65. My options now are to (a) return it to the vendor, always difficult with an issue of this type. Or (b) smash it to pieces with a large rock to stop me wasting any more time on it. Thanks

  • My HP LaserJet CP1025nw won't print, "Filter failed" error

Whenever I print something, it acts like it's about to then a system notification just says "printing stopped." There is a "Filter failed" error at http://localhost:631/printers/HP-LaserJet-CP1025nw. I have hplip installed, and have reinstalled it a few times. Two things I've tried from searching the web. I cleared the pacman cache and still the same issue. I tried installing foo2zjs  from the AUR, but it would not compile (did not pass the validity check). It prints fine on Linux Mint. I'm out of ideas and don't know where else to go. Any suggestions?

That page's troubleshooting for the "Filter failed" message worked out. I consulted the Wiki before but never found that exact page. I guess I didn't use the best search criteria. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • LaserJet CP1025nw Printing Problem

    Hi
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I installed a new Laserjet CP1025nw a couple of months ago. I got everything working fine wirelessly as per the instructions. It has worked without problem since then ... until today.
Documents just sit in the print queue. They will not print.
Sending a test page wirelessly works fine.
Printing documents on an older wired Epson Inkjet printer I have attached works fine too.
I have tried connecting a USB cable again but cannot get it to print that way either. I have tried making it the default printer, and not. I have searched the support forum but been unable to find anything to help. I have used the Windows troubleshooting diagnostic but that seems to indicate everything should be okay. I have installed the HP diagnostic and that all tells me everything is okay.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I am the one with the Sony Vaio, Win 7 64bit, and have commented previouosly in this thread.
Now I have have taken the next step as per instructions from HP Support.
    1. Delete HP Folder from Program Files and Program Files (x86). The latter was impossible to delete.
    2. Do Run and run 'regedit'.
    3. Make copy of present Registry using menu File and do export (as safety precaution)
    4. Delete HP and Hewlett packard folders in the catalogues: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\, nothing else
After this I checked Control Panel , Start, and Task Manager and found some HP items still there. Did my utmost to erase them using Window delete functions, REVO and Registry Booster. hppcp1025LaserJetService (in Control Panel list) persisted along with some Services in Task Mgr.
Continuing according to HP Support instructions (but now with little hope only) I did
    5. Re-installation of CP1025nw driver package: I choose the Basic option from the HP web which is supposed to be followed installation-wise by an update dated 2011-09-20 (Swedish version).
    Results
    a)  after Basic installation, before update installation and before restart of PC: writing can be performed via the network, "Device settings" in Windows menu not available though
    b) after Basic installation and  update installation and before restart of PC: writing can NOT be performed via the network. Ping status not investigated
    c)  after Basic installation and update installation and before restart of PC: writng can not be performed via the network. Device settings via Windows and ping connection functions well though, although the printer is reported by Windows "Devices and printers" as off-line.
So now I may do a total recovery. There may be two outcomes after the recovery as I see it:
    A. Printing goes well with the CP1025 via the network, also after installation of all necessary applications now residing on the PC (and which resided on the PC before this summer´s HP date)
    B. Printing does not function with the CP1025 via the network, connections with other HP printers on the network also severely restricted (as today). Then the only conclusion would be incompatibility between HP 2011 drivers for the CP1025 and the Sony flavour of Win 7 64 bit Professional. And I would have to (again) claim the driver package as faulty.
The alternative would be to forget about the CP1025 already now.
    Any suggestions?

  • HP LaserJet CP1025nw Color getting a Mispick error message

I have a HP LaserJet CP1025nw Color printer, running on WIN 7 64-bit and I am getting a Mispick error message after almost every page that prints.  I have had this printer for the past 1-1/2 years and it has worked fine.  I replaced the black toner over a month ago with no issues.  The Attention light blinks and has to be rest after each print job.  I can print a test page then it errors, I clear it and then it will re-print the test page again.  I have cleaned the rollers, check for any loose paper pieces, changed the paper (type and size) nad have powered off & unplugged the power to the printer several times. It will come up with no errors and then once I send something to print, it will print it and then immediately after the page is printed the Attention light will start to blink. I have even gone as far as unintsalling the printer and reinstalling all the drivers and software, to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jarm1964

This is probably a little late but it may help someone with the same issue in the future.  I had the exact same scenario - HP LJ CP1025nw color on Win7-64 and it suddenly started receiving the mispick error after every print job.  There was nothing stuck, no paper jam, no problem picking up paper, etc.  It turns out it was a setting on the printer - under Printer Properties (from Devices and Printers), on the Configure tab I had checked Allow Manual Duplexing and Jam Recovery set to On.  When I unchecked Allow Manual Duplex and turned Jam Recovery to Off, the mispick error went away.   Not sure which of the 2 was the culprit.
