  • Print to LaserJet 3150 Shared by Windows XP Pro

I have an older, but servicable LaserJet 3150 hooked to my Windows XP Pro desktop at work.
A long time ago, I set it up to share with OS X by creatign a virtual printer using GhostScript and some other queuing utility - this made is look like a PostScript Laserwriter. Worked great!
Alas, as common with Windows, the system decided to blow iteself away, and had to be rebuilt. I did not keep recipee, and cannot find it online.
Has anybody seen it? The problem is that the LaserJet 3150 is a impure PCL printer using its own format.
    Thanks,

  • Problems installing HP LaserJet 1018 printer on new MacBook Pro

    Hi all,
I just entered the wonderful world of Mac and I am really enjoying it. Too bad I waited so long. However, I have a problem installing my printer, an HP LaserJet 1018 printer, on my new MacBook Pro intel based computer. I checked at HP's website and it says that the printer is not supported for the Mac environment. Could there be other possibilities with drivers to download or should I buy a new printer?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Best regards,
    Christian
MacBook Pro 15", Intel based   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi Crelle,
When the manufacturer says they don't support something, it's generally best to stay away from it.
There's almost always 3 ways to do any 1 thing, but you may need you printer to do more than 1 thing and therefore you're going to have issues with all the other things.
Printing to a printer sounds like 1 thing, but it's not.
It's many things working together to get ink on paper.
My advise is get a supported printer and live without a headache.

    Hi,
I have upgraded maverick to yosemite. The last Update for printer software was installed (version 3.0 at Oct. 1 2014). But both printers doesn not work any more.
The color laser jet 3600n stops after 10% of the print with PCL XL error, Subsystem kernel, Error: Missing data, Operator: Vendor Unique, Position 14.
With the OfficeJet 8600 Pro it is quite similar. The printer starts loadin the page. After some minutes the printer push out the empty page. In both cases the Mac lost connection to the printer for some time. After few minutes the connection is established.

  • HP Laserjet 1606dn and an HP Officejet Pro 8500

Both of these printers have USB and Ethernet networking available. I need to hook both of them up to USB AND ethernet simultaneously. My question is are both ports simultaneously active(i.e. can I hook one computer to the printer with USB and let everyone else print to it over the network)? Thanks.

Yes you may hook them both up simultaneously.  One connection via usb and then everyone else connected via ethernet on your network.  Although hooking them all up via Ethernet would be a better choice.
    Thanks!

  • Is QuickTime "Pro" useless?

I have a mpg movie (mpeg4/mpeg4aac codecs) that I'd like to covert to an Apple-friendly format such as .mov, but QuickTime fails to even recognize the file as a movie and open it. I was under the impression QuickTime Pro could do some amount of video exporting, but if its video codec set is so limited, I can't see what its good for.
Anyone using the "Pro" features of QuickTime for anything useful? As it is, I believe I need to purchase different software, like Video Converter for Mac, to do the job I feel like QuickTime should handle. Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I'm currently converting .m2t files to put on my iPod Video for TV playback. I have the MPEG2 QT component installed and can use StreamClip to edit out unwanted content then export to MPEG4 files. However I've found that iSquint converts so much quicker but you can't do any editing. StreamClip doesn't seem to save natively back to a .m2t file.
As to iSquint converting so much faster, I believe it still defaults to MPEG4/AAC while MPEG Streamclip defaults to H.264/AAC compression which is roughly 2.0-2.5 times as efficient and provides better quality for a given video data rate but does require more time to encode. If speed is all you want, then switch to the "Apple MPEG-4 Compressor" in the "Compression" pop-up after you select the "iTunes" option to load your basic "iPod" settings. You can also make any other adjustments may wish at this time.
Actually, trying to save to an M2T container is something I've never tried since I don't normally have access to M2T files. However, does the exported file have to be M2T? Or is it the contained data that is really important here? Had assumed using the MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." option would simply place the data in a more common MPEG-2 file container but I could be wrong here. What actually happened when you tried it?
I was wondering if converting to MPEG4 with either QT Pro or iSquint then editing with QT Pro would be faster than the process I'm using.
You can convert to MPEG-4/AAC or H.264/AAC in either MPEG Streamclip or iSquint (or any number of other converters) and then do your "trimming" in QT Pro if you want. The disadvantage here is that if you want to avoid any further re-conversion of your content, you would then have to save it in an MOV file container which means you can no longer associate external "artwork" with the file in iTunes as you can with either the MP4 or M4V file containers. Of course, you could then always use MPEG Streamclip to place the MOV content back into an MP4 container without re-compression, but that seems to make the whole process a bit more tedious in the long run.
Of course, if you don't mind the MOV container and have GarageBand installed, you could now chapter your iPod file if you wished. On the other hand, if you perform your edits in an intermediate compression format and really want chaptered content, you could chapter in GarageBand and re-compress to your file for iTunes with chapters in an externally "artwork" compatible file container. Basically, you have as many options in converting your content for iPod use as you can dream up as long as you can "live with your results."

  • Do older HP Laserjets work with Leopard?

I have an old Laserjet 5MP, which I adore. It works great and shows no signs of dying anytime soon.
I've read of all the Leopard printer issues with trepidation... I would like to upgrade, but I sure as heck don't want to buy a new printer!
Does anyone know if this printer will work with Leopard? I'd hate to go through the expense and trouble of upgrading the OS for nothing.
    Thanks!
    Erin

    Erin-
Yes. I have no problems printing to my LaserJet 5P since I upgraded to Leopard (my understanding is that the "M" in "5MP" reflects its postscript capabilities, intended for Mac users, and which the 5P lacks).
The 5P manual (the same manual used for the 5MP) discusses connecting to a Mac with either a serial cable (Apple Part #922158) or LocalTalk cable (for LocalTalk networks) (see page 1-10 of the manual). I've been printing to the 5P through my Windows network; the LaserJet is connected to an XP Pro box via its LPT: (parallel) port and my PowerBook "sees" the 5P through the network.
For drivers I use CUPS/Gutenprint v5.02 (last stable release, 5-Jan-08) (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3); it's the only driver that has worked with my Windows/Linux/OS X network setup.
    Any questions, just holler!
    Good luck,
    Ken S
I see that my reply was preceded by Monty's. Now you have two people to blame if you have problems. Monty deserves the credit anyway: his Mac setup is way cooler than mine--and I want it!!

  • HPM1212nf MFP i can't scan but wireless network works fine for printing

i have the MFP set up fine for printing over a wireless network.  Any idea on what more i  need to do to get the machine to accept a scan command from the computer using HP Laserjet Scan?

    Hi there @bc123!
Thanks for contacting the HP Forums!
I see that your having a communication issue with the HP LaserJet when it comes to scanning to the computer, and I would be happy to provide you with my assistance.
A good place to start when troubleshooting scanning is to ensure the CD was installed correctly on your computer. If the CD is unavailable then I can provide you with a link to the HP driver download: Drivers & Downloads
In the link provided you will want to:
1.enter your printers model number and click GO
    2.select your printer model
3.select your operating system and click NEXT
4.Click on Driver - Product Installation Software (‏1)
5.Click DOWNLOAD next to the full feature software
To provide you with a more direct link to your software and to better assist you, would you please provide me with the following information:
    1. What operating system version the computer is running (ex. Mac, Windows, etc.).
Bellow are 2 links I located from HP and Macintosh on how to locate your version of operating system.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Finding the OS X version and build information on your Mac
    2. If the computer is running Windows I will need to know what version (ex. 32-bit or 64-bit).
I have provided another link from the HP web site showing you how to check if its 32-bit or 64-bit
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
    3. Laserjet model number (ex. P1102w, CP1025, etc.).
Please post back with the requested information, as well as the results of your troubleshooting.
