Hp laserjet p1005

My printer jammed while printing. I pulled the paper out backwards the way it takes the paper in and since then it hasn't worked. The program told me to replace the printer head but I don't believe this is the issue as this message has now gone away. However, it still doesnt print. I've trouble shooted everything, unplugged everything and still nothing. Is my printer broken?

Hello @wheels11,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that since getting a paper jam on your HP LaserJet P1005 Printer you have been unable to print. I see that you had also removed the jam by pulling the jammed paper out backwards. I want you to be aware that by pulling the jammed paper out backwards there is a chance that the paper path feeding rollers may have been damaged. You always want to pull jammed paper straight out of the products through the cartridge access area if possible. With that being said, I would like to offer my assistance today with resolving this issue.
Now, you did mention in your post that you have already done all of the troubleshooting to no avail. At this time can I please have you click here to access the appropriate paper jam documentation for your printer. When the page opens, simply scroll through Solution one, Solution three, and Solution five to verify if any paper may have been missed in the paper path that is still triggering this error state. If you have already ran these steps, simply skip them.
Once your troubleshooting has been completed, please test printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!

  • Unable to install HP Laserjet P1005 on a Windows 7 64-bit OS system

I have attempted to install both the full package and just the driver for an HP Laserjet P1005 local printer to my personal PC which I updated the OS to MS WIndows 7, 64-bit version numerous times and I have been unsuccessful each time. On each attempt to run the installer, whether it be the full version or just the driver, and you come to the point in the installation process where you are to plug in your local printer's USB cable to your PC I keep encountering an error message indicating that the USB device is not recognized. A further investigation reveals that there is in fact an unknown device. I click on this and I encounter a Microsoft generated message which indicates the following information - Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
The following Microsoft web site - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123
    has the following Recommended resolution
One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.
If you have already run the Troubleshooting Wizard, you might want to check the hardware documentation for more information about diagnosing the problem.
Well, I went through all of the above recommended actions and I got nowhere. I went back on the web and did some further research. This time I found the following information at the following HP web page -http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-59850-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=1060&product=3435668
This was a link to an HP web page which pertained to a so-called repair utility software that was for an HP Laserjet P1000 and P1500 Series Plug and Play Recovery Utility.I tried this but it has not rectified my problem installing the driver for my local printer. If you have the magical solution to this problem I would appreciate it if you could provide it to me. Thank you.

WendyM: I seem to have EXACTLY the same problem...
    - New Sony Vaio with Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit factory installed
    - HP LaserJet P1005 as a local printer
    - P1005 was first installed on the Vaio using the original install CD and sort of worked
    - worked OK for the installing user but only intermittently for the other user
    - both users had problems with the printer queue locking up in various situations (only solution was to reboot)
    - decide to try and update the installation of the printer
    - downloaded both the driver files you speak of from HP
    - small Plug and Play file (c4Mb) got into endless loop when trying to pre-install drivers and had to be killed
    - large full installation file (c167Mb) also failed to install properly
    - tried uninstalling and rebooting various times after various failed attempts to get this full package to work.
    - situation now is that the P1005 is simply uninstallable on the Vaio but continues to work fine on two XP machines (see below)
    - a detail: when the P1005 is plugged into any machine (Vaio or XPs) USB reports that it could run faster if it was on a USB 2.0 port
    - this seems to be a strange message on a 2010 Sony Vaio which obviously has USB 2.0 ports
    - stranger yet, the XPs are completely unaffected by this message, and print to the P1005 normally, as they always have
    The XP machines:
    - One XP machine is an old 2006 HP Pavilion
    - The other XP machine is a 2009 Acer netbook
    - both machines with their original factory installed XPs, and both regularly updated
    - the P1005 is a local printer on all machines
    - each machine is plugged into it when printing is needed and the 2 XP machines always connect and print, regardless of the USB speed message
    - the P1005 even works from the XPs via an unpowered USB physical hub with a USB mouse connected as well
HP really seem to have gotten themselves into a rather shameful mess over their printer drivers. In the year 2010 it seems insane that plugging a printer into a computer is so stunningly complex.
Indeed HP seems to be going rapidly backwards. The Vaio was bought to replace the old 2006 Pavilion (an excellent machine which has never put a foot wrong despite the most intensive use, and which continues to work fine if a little slowly in comparrison to the newer machines) because when we saw the HP replacement we were so repelled by its awful ergonomics, physical appearance, and ragged construction (raw metal edges round the front corners!) in comparisson to the Pavilion that we didn't need any convincing to buy the wonderfully constructed Vaio. Now we discover that a printer that works fine on XPs is unusable on Windows 7. A strange form of progress indeed.
For many years I revered the quality of HP products. No longer I'm afraid. The Pavilion became a Vaio. I wonder what will take the place of the P1005 (I am actually being extremely restrained about the P1005 because it compares miserably with its sturdy predecessor: our sadly missed HP LaserJet 1010),

  • ThinClient t5745 unable to print via LaserJet p1005

We just bought a HP ThinClient t5745 at my job to use mainly for printing out some sort of worksheets. We already have a LaserJet p1005 so we wanted to use that as the printer. It is possible in the setup to find the driver for the printer and it is also able to detect whether the printer is on or off BUT it will not print. The ThinClient says it is "processing" and some seconds after it says "online - idle" at the printer's status.
I have tried to print via a network printer we also have (a HP Color LaserJet CM6040 MFP) and it works perfectly. The p1005 do just fine on a Windows computer.
I hope anyone can help me out. Thanks.

Hi, i have tried the driver (the 2 drivers) and don't work. You send a document to the printer and it does nothing. Why? Why the drivers don't work?
I would suggest downloading and running the HP Printing Diagnostic Utility.

  • HP LaserJet P1005 vs Linux drivers [was a PEBKACH after all]

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up my HP Laserjet P1005 printer on Arch.  After some googling I found that the foo2xqx driver should support it -- looking at AUR, I found foo2zjs driver package -- which isn't the same, but after a closer look it seems to include the foo2xqx driver as well.  So I installed it, restarted CUPS, added myself to the lp group, relogged in, added the printer to CUPS, and power-cycled the device itself.  Now, when I try to print anything, including the Printer Test Page, the printer only spits out blank page.
Has anything simillar happened to someone?  Any tips on where to start looking?
Last edited by Oxyd (2008-12-27 21:26:25)

My P1005 works very nicely in Arch.
hplip is not necessary. If you have hplip or hpijs installed and don't need them for any other printer, you should remove them and reboot before installing foo2zjs
A clean install of foo2zjs should show something like this in the cups printer page:
Printer Driver: HP LaserJet P1005 Foomatic/foo2xqx (recommended)
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
    Device URI: usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1005
Note that the device is usb. If any of the hp stuff is hanging around when you install foo2zjs, the device will be usbhp or something similar and the printer won't print if you try to remove the hp drivers.
BTW, the P1005 does not have a resume button. If you run out of paper in the middle of a print job, add paper to the tray, then lift the upper lid (as if you want to replace the toner cartridge). When you restore the lid to its normal position, printing will resume.

  • HP Laserjet P1005 printer makes a loud rasping noise as soon as it is turned on

My Laserjet P1005 printer makes a loud rasping noise as soon as it is turned on. The noise stops when the top cover is opened, but starts again when the cover is closed. The printer has been used sparingly at home and from a cursory inspection, the rollers seem to be okay. Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thank you!

    Hi @Dunn1 ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

  • Apple took away my printer's drivers (HP Laserjet P1005) in Mavericks. What should I do?

I own a HP Laserjet P1005 that's shared in a wireless network, used by 2 pcs, a Macbook and several iPhones. All of them can print normally, only my Macbook doesn't. It lists the network and recognize the printer, but Mavericks took away the drivers from the list, leaving only two options: HP Deskjet Series and HP Laserjet Series PCL 4/5. I've chosen both PCL Generic and PostScript Generic too, and the PCL 4/5 option, none of them work. It adds the printer, but when I try printing, a dialog box opens and it keeps asking for a password, while I'm a guest in the network, so, it's unecessary (it has been always this way, no trouble whatsoever). BTW, back in Lion there was a comprehensive list, including my printer model. Now the drivers for my specific printer model are gone and I can't configure it without them. What should I do?

This didn't help me.  I have a trusty old HP Deskjet 832c that was not included in http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907.   But downloading the Gutenprint 5.2.9 driver fixed the problem:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php     (It's the first one listed under Downloads.)
Note:  I read elsewhere you should begin by resetting the printer system to purge it of any old drivers, so I did that first.  Here is how to do it:

  • HP LaserJet p1005 windows 8 driver ?

    Hello,
I've been waiting for a while to come out windows 8 64bit driver for my printer HP LaserJet p1005. The windows 7 driver doesn't find my printer.
Please tell me at least how much longer will it take to come out, so I can take the appropriate measures to be able to print when it's important.

    Hi pefo_1,
    Maybe the next steps helps
To install on Windows 8 apply the following steps:
    1. Download the driver that is available on the HP site:
Basic Driver Plug and Play for HP LaserJet P1005
       ljP1000_P1500 HB-pnp-win64-en.exe-[1/1, 3.54m]
Note: Download this file to the Windows Desktop.
    2. Then select the downloaded file with the mouse right click Properties.
    3. Select the tab that says Compatibility.
    4. Then check the box that says "Run in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 7
    5. Under Privilege Level check the box that says "Run as administrator"
    6. Click OK to close the Properties window.
    7. Then double-click it on the downloaded file to begin the installation.
Note: Remember that the USB cable must be unplugged before installation.
    It should appear as follows:
I hope these steps will be helpful with the Windows 8 installation of the Laserjet P1005 printer.

  • HP Laserjet P1005 print in Text Edit but nor in Word or Adobe Reader

I just bought a HP LaserJet P1005 printer, it does print in all the aplications that camed with the operating system Mac OS X 10.4.10 ( Text Edit, Ical, Iweb, Sherlock, etc) but It does not print in any other aplication ( Open Office, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Freehand, etc).
I have already installed last version of the HP driver and also updated the OS to 10.4.11 but there is no difference.
Because the printer is on guarantee I did call to HP, but they said that if the printer print in aplications lake text edit, the printer is ok, so the would not replace it.
Anyway I do not know if other printer with the same model would work or if it would have the same problem.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks a lot.

I see that the original poster has returned the printer but figured I'd post in case others are having this issue.
Same problem here: Intel iMac, latest updates applied (Tiger), brand new printer, Office Mac 2004
Verifying disk, repairing permissions does not solve this problem. Trashing all the Microsoft preferences and reinstalling didn't work. I have a slew of these same iMacs running Office X and they print with no problems so I removed Office 2004 and went back to X and still had the same problem.
It's bizarre. I was able to print an Excel file but when I try to print a Word document the printer window jumps to "Jobs Stopped" a few seconds after receiving the job. Clicking "Start Jobs" results in it jumping back to "Jobs Stopped" I downloaded the driver package from HP thinking maybe it had been updated since the CD that came with the printer was pressed but no luck.
There is another post around here in which the poster said if s/he clicks Print Preview and then clicks the Print icon there the document will print. I'll try that tomorrow. The other post has some quotes from HP support that are not very helpful.

  • HP LaserJet P1005 Two-sided printing not working on network

    Good day!
I have a desktop, with Windowx XP, to which my LaserJet P1005 is connected via USB. My wife has a laptop, with the same Windows XP, from which she can print, but the two-sided option does not work right. She can check it and print, but the window to restart printing for the second side does not open and there is nothing we can do at this point.
I have trie duninstalling the printer from both computers and reinstalling the newest drivers, it still won't work.
    Thanks for your help!

I have an HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One with the latest HP driver that displays the two-sided printing option greyed-out in the Layout window. According to HP, your printer must be capable of accepting an optional two-sided printer tray to work on a Mac. To me that is ludicrous since in Windows the driver supports manual two-sided printing.
To get around this, I select the Paper Handling window and from the Pages to Print drop-down list select Odd only instead of the default All Pages. After clicking the print button the odd pages print starting with the last page and ending with the first. I then remove all paper and reinsert the printed pages with the top of the page facing the printer. First, though, I reorder the pages with the first page on the bottom and the last page on top. If the total number of pages is an odd number, I remove the last page from the inserted stack, as that is the very last printed page. I then select Even only from the Pages to Print drop-down list and click print again.
    Problem solved.

  • Need to download Mac driver (OSX Mavericks) for LaserJet P1005

I am visiting a home that has a HP LaserJet P1005.   I need to install the driver on my MacBook Pro Retina using OSX (the latest version: Mavericks).  The owner of the printer has an install disk for the driver but these new MacBook Pros no longer have an internal optical drive.  So I need to download the driver from the internet.  The printer is now out of warranty, not that it should matter.  The HP site says to get the driver from Apple using Software Update but Apple does not have it.  The HP site says if Apple does not have the driver that the older driver on your computer will work - but I don't have that.   So I have not been able to find any support post that helps me.  I tried calling the 800 number and was on hold waiting for half an hour before I gave up.  Please help!  I need to print some documents in the next few days before year end.  Thanks.
