HP Laserjet p1505n doesn't work over network with Yosemite

Ever since upgrading the machines in my house (Mac Pro, iMac, MBPretina, MBAir) to Yosemite, I have not been able to use the network attached Laserjet p1505n that used to work flawlessly under 10.9. It doesn't appear in the printer tab in System Prefs where it used to pop up. Anyone have any experience with this? The printer will install via USB just fine on the Mac Pro, MBPRetina, etc. Thanks!

To see the printer in the Default view of the Add printer window, a protocol called Bonjour is used by the printer and Mac. This protocol is having issues for some users who have upgraded to Yosemite. Until the issue is resolved you may be able to use one of the IP protocols to connect to the networked printer. To do so you will need to find the IP address being used by the printer. If the LJ-P1505n has a control panel, you may be able to generate a report showing the network settings.
Once you have the IP address you can open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add a printer. Then click on the IP icon and enter the IP address of the HP in the Address Field. In the Protocol field, change to HP Jetdirect-Socket and in the Queue field, leave this blank. You can then change the Name from the IP address to LJP1505n and in the Use menu, select the P1505n printer. Click the Add to complete the printer creation and then see if you can print.

I understand you are no longer able to print with the P1006 on Win8.1.
Did you uninstall the P1006 first?
If not uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.
Both drivers are the same if you look at the version on the website and should still work with the Win8.1.

Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router and Mac can resolve the issue. However, try the steps in the article below to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue with your MacBook.

According to Apple Facetime will only work over WiFi. IOS 6 will bring feature that you can make Facetime call over 3g-4g

HP LaserJet P1505n stops printing and blocks network interface

I have been using my P1505n for over two years without any problem. But it suddenly stopped printing. The scenario is as follows:
1. The P1505n is connected to a wired home network with reserved IP address in the DHCP server.
2. The P1505n is used from Ubuntu 10.4, 11.4 , Windows XP and Windows 7 without any previous problems.
3. The last partial successful print job stopped in the middle of a page leaving the rest blank: no paper jam.
4. I have reset the printer several times: turn off + press Cancel & Go + turn on while holding the two buttons down.
5. The first reset was successful: the toner level going from 40 to 100%. The next ones may have been successfull too.
6. After each reset and also after each power-on, I can ping and access the embedded web server.
7. Whenever I send a print job, the print queue on the computer (all OS behave identically) says "printing" and stops. I can cancel/remove the jobs from Ubuntu.
8. After the printer receives the print job, it silently blocks the network interface (no ping nor web) and doesn't print anything. No movementsm no LED blinking either: just nothing happens.
What is the reason for this problem? And how do I solve it?

For further assistance, I will need to know the following information:
The version number of the Mac Operating System. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
In the meantime, I would try the following:
Reset the printing system. Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system.
Verify and repair disk permissions. Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions.

Can't scan over network with a laserjet 1217 on a Mac

My set up:
Mac with Yosemite
Laserjet M1217 over wireless
Problem description:
I can't scan. From preview, or the control panel, or image capture, I get the same error saying "can't open a session"
I have installed and re-installed the drivers/printer around 100 times.
I have tried adding the printer/scanner as airprint, or with the name of the printer as a post suggested.
Everything result in the same error.
I have version 2.0 of the driver installed right now. Tried with 1.7 as well, same result.
I can print without a problem from my Mac and from my iPad.
Tried with an ethernet cable and have teh same issue in case someone ask.
I've looked everywhere in google and doesn't seem like anyone else have the same issue? Many people have issues printing over wireless, but that's ok for me. Is the scanning I can't get to work.
HP pages doesn't offer any different driver than what Yosemite has. HP doesn't offer any extra program for Mac and scan.
Don't know what else to try.
Some help? Anyone?

I see that you are experiencing issues scanning over the wireless network and hardwired network on Yosemite.
I would like to help you out with this issue today.
The drivers for Yosemite are installed by the Apple Updates.
Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.
Did you add the printer as a Bonjour printer or IP Protocal?
IP Protocal won't allow you to scan, just print.
You can also download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
If you are still having issues then check that the scanning ports on the router to make sure that they are open. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router.
If you still can't scan, connect the printer directly to the Mac with a USB cable and see if you can scan. Just to rule out a network issue.
What kind of router do you have?
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

FileLock Doesn't Work Across Network

I have found a case in which FileLock doesn't work. I'm trying to use FileLock to prevent two instances of the same process to run simultaneously on different machines (or the same machine) on the network. I actually saw two processes, one on each of two Linux machines obtain a lock on the same file at the same time.
Can I be sure that FileLock is calling fcntl and not flock (which wouldn't work over the network)?
Is there any way to fix this or get around it??

Finder sidebar doesn't work for networking?

Does anybody else find that the sidebar in finder doesn't work when you network your computer to a pc network? I SEE the file servers when I click on "all" but when I double click on one of them it always says "connection failed". The only way I can access the network is to go to "Go" then "connect to server" then type in smb://ipaddress and have the server directly mounted to desktop (after changing finder preferences to show mounted volumes on desktop). Does the finder sidebar just not work then in leopard or am I doing something wrong?

When you click on it, it will try and log on as user guest with no password. This will nearly always fail on a windows box.
top right of the window pain there should then appear an option to 'connect as', click this and type in a valid username and password. Tick the box to add it to your keychain and it should then always connect when you click on the sidebar.

[solved] SSH doesn't work over PPTP VPN with pptpclient

I just got set up with access to my work's PPTP VPN. Using pptpclient I can establish a connection and ping servers. I can use telnet to confirm ports 22, 80 etc are accessible and I can access web services in my browser, but SSH doesn't work.
When I try and SSH to a server it just hangs for a minute and then "Connection closed by 10.70.11.10". Wondering if SSH was using my default route rather than the appropriate tunnel, I tried setting my default route to use the VPN, and ping, telnet, nmap etc still seem to function and return expected results, but SSH still hangs and closes. There are no entries in the sshd log on the servers that I attempted to get access to. I have both Arch and CentOS servers and I cannot get to either via SSH.
My colleague connected to the VPN on his mobile phone and managed to SSH to a server, so it doesn't seem that the VPN is blocking this... any ideas?

Solved! I found that in /etc/ppp/options, un-commenting -mru fixed this for me:

Verizon messages app doesn't work over wifi....

Hello, all,
Until recently, I used the verizon messages app to send/receive texts over wifi on my gs3 when I had no cellular/data reception. Now it will only send/rec when there's cell reception.
But...the app does still work over wifi onmy galaxy tab 2 7.0.
Why could this be? Did a recent app update break txt over wifi for the gs3?

This does NOT work on the Galaxy S3.
Airplane mode ON, Wifi ON, No network mode is available in Airplane mode. So...only wifi is available. When I try to send a text with only wifi available I get "Network not available. The message will be sent when the network is available"
BUT...On my Galaxy Tab 2 (non-verizon), This DOES work. On the tab 2 with only wifi available, I CAN send text messages using Verizon Messages.
So....again...
On Galaxy Tab 2 with only WiFi available...texting with Verizon messages DOES work.
On Galaxy S3 with only WiFi available...texting with Verizon messages DOES NOT work.
Please fix Verizon Messages to work over WiFi using Galaxy S3.

Officejet 4500 doesn't work over ethernet connection

My Officejet 4500 is recognized by my router but not by anything else. Tablet doesn't see it nor does the desktop. Your also supposed to be able to set it up as sort of a cloud printer...but that doesn't work either. System is Vista Home Basic 32 bit SP2.

Problems opening and saving PNG over network with CS2 and CS3

photoshop CS2 or CS3
I've recently tried to save images in PNG format, small (no more than a couple hundred kilobytes) and found that whenever I tried to save to the server it would hang photoshop and require a force-quit. Saving the same file to the desktop works fine. Copying said file to the network and then trying to open that PNG from the server results in a photoshop hang, while opening that same file from the desktop works fine. I know all about the fact that Adobe doesn't support working over a server, but that's never been an issue at my workplace in all the years I've worked with (never had problems saving/opening any format, no corrupted files ever). If I try to open that same PNG from the server with CS2, same result. If I try to open it over the server using Photoshop CS, or version 7, however, it opens just fine. If I copy the Photoshop CS version of the PNG plugin and replace the PNG plugin installed with CS3 by default, then it seems to work and I can now open and save PNGs anywhere with no problems. Has anyone else had this problem? I can see that the file size of the PNG plugin has changed version to version, so something about it has changed. It seems as though there is something defective about the ones installed with CS2/3, and just copying the CS version into my CS3 folder clears up the problem.
Also, the problem is not limited to my computer. Other macs that try to open PNG files from the server using CS3 or 2 also hang.

Yes, we're a prepress company moving around probably a few dozen gb of data per day, saving PSD, TIFF, EPS, JPEG, all kinds of formats. It's the first time I've had a client requesting PNG files, and so the issue has come to light. This is the first time I've ever seen any kind of issue opening/saving across our network in 8 years. (the only time I've ever seen a corrupt file was a 1.6gb image that didn't copy correctly, and that wasn't a photoshop-related corruption, but an OS drag/copy of the file)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to find someone with OS 10.5 or some other version to see if they cause problems. If anyone else reading this who works over a network can test a PNG open/save over their network and list their OS and Photoshop version it may help. I'm going to see if I can find some other computers to try it out on in the meantime and mention it to IT.

AirPort Express AirPlay over network with extender

I'm running a wireless network which includes a Netgear signal extender. With the extender, I have two wireless networks visable:
network name (primary wireless router) & network name_EXT (extended wireless signal)
I purchased the AE for AirPlay and have it hard-wired (RJ-45) into my router. When our devices are connected to the primary wireless network the AirPlay function works perfectly, but when the devices (iPad and iPhones) connect to the extended network (network name_EXT), the AirPlay doesn't work.
The AE is connected by an RJ-45 cable and is on the same network... it seems to me the wireless network shouldn't matter.
Any suggestions to get this to work on the _EXT network?

It seems as though, from my experimentation, that Airplay connects to another device through the MAC address and *not* the IP address. There are benefits of using both types of connections (which I won't get into), but the biggest problem with using the MAC address in this case is the that, on most networks (practically everything except for those using WDS), the MAC address of the device in question gets masked as the same MAC address of the router it is connected to. This is bad because when the computer looks for a specific device, (again assuming that Airplay checks for MAC addresses) it will only see the router's MAC address instead of real device's MAC address.
To clarify, say you have two networks, A and B, where A is where the IP addresses are assigned from, usually the router that is either connected to the modem or is the modem itself. Each has its own SSID, A and B respectively. Wireless device WA, which has Airplay, is connected to network A. Wireless device WB is connected to network B and is trying to wirelessly connect to WA. As I mentioned previously, most networks won't be set up with WDS (which preserves the MAC addresses). As WB looks for WA to send the music over Airplay, it won't be able to fully connect because it is trying to send it to the wrong MAC address (of router A) despite it seeing the device. I suspect WB sees WA because it can see WA's IP address.
Now, I haven't been able to confirm this theory with any Apple representative because, after all, they are mostly not knowledgeable in the intricacies of the devices networking. I'm sure if they forwarded the question to an Apple engineer, we would be able to get a concise answer as to why we are having this issue...
I can only hope they will fix this issue before we are forced to buy more hardware to support WDS
But again, this is just my theory, I have no evidence except for knowing that my network is all on the same subnet but the MAC addresses are transformed... it may have something to do with the DD-WRT set-up I have.
