If I enable duplex printing in printing preferences, and print, it will duplex my 1 sheet print request (2 pages, one on each side) and make unlimited copies until it runs out of paper or ink.
If I enable duplex printing in the web interface. All prints, regardless of duplexing enabled in the driver or not, are duplicated unlimited times.
I have tried installing the printer via the CD, via the 150MB+ download full installer, and from "Add a Printer" the Windows way and finding the driver on the CD.
I rang HP tech support, went through an extruciatingly frustrating experience where the support representative would ask small simple questions like "What is your name?" and then silence for up to 30 seconds, to the point of me saying "Hello, anyone there?". After 5 questions like this, I get to the point where I explain my problem and am told "We don't support our products in the first 30 days, you must refer to your place of purchase".
Well, here I am, on my second printer, having sent the other one back and having the issue confirmed. I am back to square one. My place of purchase will only refund me or replace the item, and HP won't even talk to me.
    I have tried this on 3 computers, Vista, Win7 x64 and WinServer2008 R2 x64
Printer is connected as a network printer.
Please HP user guru's, please tell me there is a solution to my printing mess, or have I purchased a £180 brick?

  • Cant add a printer in Windows 2008 Server printer server HP LaserJet P1606dn

    Hello,
I am trying to install a HP LaserJet P1606dn printer in a Windows 2008 Server Virtual machine.
The printer is connected to the corporate network and I am able to do ping from my desktop to the printer.
    Then I follow this steps.
1.- Install the driver application for W2008 Server.
2.- Add printer in W2008 Printer Server.
3.-Select "add a local or network printer" as an administrator.
    4.- Choose network printer
    5.-Create a new port --> Standard TCP/IP Port
6.- Fill the host name ---> ("printer1") or IP address --> (XX.XXX.XX.13)  I have tried the both options separately but with no result. And fill the port name
7.-At this stage . W2008 Server tells me that " the device is not found on the network" . Be sure that: .....
So, in select device type, I select  "Standard" and "Generic Network Card"  and click on Next
8.- Install printer driver  -> I select the proper driver HP LaserJet 1606dn
9.- Install the printer driver ---> use the driver that is currently installed (recommend)
    10.- Type printer name --> "printer1"
    11.-Share printer name ---> "printer1"
Here, begins the problem. Trying to print a test page, It says me that  "A test page has been sent to your printer", I can see the document in the queue, but the printer page it isn`t thrown away outside.
I dont explain myself why, I have done several trials, and I dont know what happens
I would be very grateful if somebody could help me to solve this issue
    Many Thanks

  • Problem Installing a LaserJet P1606dn on a printer server using the HP UPD

I'm trying to setup a LaserJet P1606dn printer as a local printer on a 64bit Server 2003 print server.  I'd like to use the HP Universal Print Driver as the printer driver for Citrix compatibility (per the HP whitepaper entitled "HP printers supported in Citrix XenApp server environments").  I successfully downloaded, extracted and installed the latest HP UPD PCL5 driver on the print server without issue.  I then successfully added the P1606dn as a new local printer (using a new Standard TCP/IP port directed to the IP address of the printer) and configured it to use the UPD PCL5 driver.   Everything appears ok with the setup, but when I try to print a test page, nothing prints out.
I've confirmed that I've configured the TCP/IP port with the correct address and that the printer is connected to the network and pingable from the print server.  I also tried using the HP UPD PCL6 driver with the same result.
    Thanks.

  • HP LaserJet P1606dn loses their IP address in DHCP mode

    Hi,
We are currently encountering what seems to us to be a strange behavior with the HP LaserJet P1606dn printer. The behavior is that, while in DHCP mode, when it goes into sleep mode, it loses its IP address.
It shouldn't be bad because it should wake up when something is sent to it and get back its IP address, but it doesn't. It get stuck in the printing queue and we need to do an "ipconfig/ flushdns" on the appropriate server so it get back its address. This is kinda annoying because we can't even desactivate this sleep mode function, the best we can do is put it to 1 hour which is temporary because it still gonna loses its IP address anyway.
I have searched all over the net for an answer to our problem and the closest one I have find is one on HP forum where the P1606dn loses its IP address in manual mode and switch to DHCP. Even though it wasn't our exact problem, the recommanded solution was to update the 1606dn firmware, which we did. It sadly hasn't solve our problem. At least, we aren't forced to do a flushdns everytime this time and we can force it to print by printing the configuration page...
An other thing we have found is that, it always or well, very often create a second entry in the inversed zone of the dns with an IP adress it won't even use... It is probably important to note that when the printers loses its ip address, the information of the ipv4, the dns and the rest of the address are all 0.0.0.0.
It seems to me that when the printers enters in sleep mode, it loses its ip address so it can save energy, which would be a good thing, but then, it cannot get back its ip address and well, its like the printers says to himself "well, I am lost and I don't know where I am neither at which address I live but hey, it's ok, everything is just fine."
    Our configuration :
Windows 7 professional 64 bit on users end
    Windows server 2008 r2 enterprise
The printer is connected in LAN
Anyone has stumbled accross a problem like this before with this model?
    Thank you

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here.
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
       Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
    4. If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Manual DNS server and
         8.8.4.4 preferred DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
    5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
    11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    12. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

  • LaserJet P1606dn: Win7: Over Ethernet: List of current Control Codes ( PCL 6? )

I've unsuccessfully sought a list of control codes ( PCL 6? ) for the LJ P1606dn so I can work codes like "Page Eject" into a database application I'm prototyping.

    The LaserJet P1606dn printer is a host-based device (see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01995860 ).
This means that it doesn't understand any of the traditional Page Description Languages (PDLs) - PCL5, PCL6 (a.k.a. PCL XL) or PostScript - as used on more expensive models.
Host-based devices use proprietary (not published) languages which vary from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer.
I think that with many of the HP models, the language is known as JetReady, which is (loosely) based on a (very) stripped down variant of PCL XL; most of the fomatting is done of the host workstation (hence the name), with everything (text & images) converted to encapsulated, compressed raster images; the interpreter in the printer just unencapsulates and uncompresses these images, and prints the resultant dots.
Note that even of the printer supported the standard PCL6 (PCL XL) PDL, it is exceedingly difficult (in most cases impossible) to inject anything (such as your 'page ejects') into the stream generated by the driver, due to the highly structured nature of this PDL.

  • Using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up

using a mac 10.6.8 to print duplex to HP laserjet P1606dn, order of paper comes out mixed up as follows: the first page out is page 2, with 1 on reverse side, next page is page 4, with 3 on reverse side., etc.  This requires that I re-collate every paper I print.  Have tried a few things in set up and re-installing the printer, but still not fixed.

Since it was so problematic - we took it off the printer server and are allowing access via IP (not going through our prit server) and it is behaving the same way.

Also, we have the same model of printer here that you are having issues with. I pulled up the HP Printer Control app on my phone and it recognized it right away.
Did you have the phone connected to the WiFi (the same network that the printer is on) when you were trying to use the app? Just like with AirPrint, if it is not connected to the same network as the printer, it is not going to recognize it. If it still doesn't work, then you may need to make some changes to your network configuration. In a perfect world, everything would just connect and you would be done with it. In reality, you have thousands of different routers and completely different network configurations. A lot of the time, issues like this can be resolved by simply setting a Static IP address for the printer and using a reliable public DNS server vs. the one provided by your ISP.
You mentioned that you should have total control from the native apps in iOS and Android, but that's just not how it works. That functionality is up to Apple and Google to implement. HP has no control over how they design their mobile OS and what functionality they provide. The only reason AirPrint works the way it does, is because HP took advantage of the functionality already included in the OS.
If you would like to try setting a Static IP & DNS, follow the steps that I have listed below.
First, you will need a network summary page.
    1. Press the settings button on the screen of the printer. It is the second icon on the top, with a wrench as it's picture.
    2. Next, select reports.
    3. After you are in the reports menu, select "Network Summary". It will now print off that page.
After you have that page, now you have the correct information to set a Static IP and DNS.
    1. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) for the printer by typing the IP address into the browser’s address bar.
    2. In the EWS, select the “Networking” tab.
    3. On the left side of the page, click "IPV4 Configuration".
    4. Click the radio button labeled "Manual".
    5. Enter the IP Address, Default Gateway, and Subnet Masks listed on the network summary page into the appropriate fields.
    6. For the Primary DNS, enter the 8.8.8.8. Enter 8.8.4.4 for the Secondary DNS.
    7. Click 'Apply' at the bottom of the page. Once the page has reloaded, click it one more time to make sure the changes are applied.
    Best of luck,

  • How to configure HP Laserjet P1606dn on Network

    Hi,
I have an HP LaserJet P1606dn, brand new and fresh out of the box.now  I am trying to configure it for network printing.
My challenge is that the default IP address (according to the Self Test/Device Configuration page) is 0.0.0.0. Internet Explorer does not recognize that as a valid address, and I cannot change the settings on my computer  to get onto a 0.0.0 subnet. This means that I cannot get to the webpage on the embedded web server to change the IP address to something suitable for the network.
I can't understand how i will configure this printer in network. Please provide procedure of configuring this printer in network ASAP.

    Hi,
The printer dhould obtain an IP once you connect an ethernet cable, such an IP means that the printer is disconnected from your network.
Try replugging the ethernet cable into the back of the printer, then to the LAN port of your router, allow it 30-60 seconds and check again.
If the same persists, try swithint the cable into another port of your router and check for any difference.
If the same persists, try using another ethernet cable and check for any difference.
Finally, if any of those provide such an 0.0.0.0 IP address, try pluggin a direct cable between the printer and the PC and check of there is a difference then, that in order to understand if the issue remain within the router or the ethernet cord of the printer itself..
Please let me know of any change, as well as the results,
    Shlomi

  • Laserjet P1606dn network setup

    Hi everyone,
I have an issue with setting up a new LaserJet P1606dn on our network. The installation software that comes with the printer assumes the environment uses a DHCP server to obtain an initial IP address and then you can assess the printer via the web interface and modify it. My issue, we don't have DHCP on our network and I need to set up an IP on this printer. My question, is there any other utility that can be used to find the printer and then configure the printer with a static IP.
Thanks in advanced for the assistance,
    Steven

Nevermind. I figured out an alternate way to access the printer. It appears to have assigned the printer a 169.254.x.x IP in which I modified my workstation to the same subnet and then accessed the printers web interface to set up the networking to the correct IP subnet.

  • HP Laserjet P1606dn and Windows Server 2012

We have 3 HP Laserjet P1606dn printers that we need to install on a Windows Server 2012.  Unfortunately, there is no drive available for Windows Server 2012.  Will HP be releasing an updated driver for this printer?  If not, are there any workarounds?  Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi ks267,
I don't know if or when there would be an updated driver to work with Windows Server 2012, but I can offer you a link to subscribe to notifications for driver updates. Subscribe to HP alerts and updates.
The only workaround I can think of is to install the software on each computer rather than installing it on the server. Although if you have 20+ computers that would not be ideal I am sure   Please bear in mind, my technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I have no training on servers.
Maybe your request for a workaround will be answered by another community member who knows more about them.

  • HP LaserJet P1606dn IP Configuration Issue

I have an HP LaserJet P1606dn, brand new and fresh out of the box. I have already set it up to print via USB from a test laptop, and now  I am trying to configure it for network printing. My challenge is that the default IP address (according to the Self Test/Device Configuration page) is 0.0.0.0. Internet Explorer does not recognize that as a valid address, and I cannot change the settings on my computer (Windows XP, with a Broadcom 570x Gigabit network card) to get onto a 0.0.0 subnet. This means that I cannot get to the webpage on the embedded web server to change the IP address to something suitable for the network.
I cannot ping 0.0.0.0 - I get an error of "Destination specified is invalid." I have attempted to connect to 0.0.0.0 both through a switch connected to a desktop and through a crossover cable connected directly to my laptop, both with no success. With the crossover cable, the network lights on the printer are green and orange (normal communication), but the lights on my laptop are dark orange (bad connection) and blinking orange (for communication). With the switch connection, the network lights on the laptop are green and orange, and the desktop can communicate to other devices on the network. There is no antivirus or other software installed on the laptop that would interfere with network connections.
Any guidance you can provide to connect to 0.0.0.0 through a web browser, or change the printer IP address completely, is appreciated.

There is no way to connect to that IP. That IP means that the printer just isn't connected to any network. Do you have the Ethernet cable connected to the printer? If it is connected, do you have the DHCP enabled in your router?
