HP Laserjet P3005n - 1.5 months out of warranty :-( tiny piece broken

Dear,
At the end of the black bar (see red circle for exact location) a tiny piece (looks like a key) is broken off from this bar at the end. The piece looks like a "key" that goes into the spin wheel (see green circle). Each time a print job is sent to the printer, the black bar (red circle) spins fine but because of the fact that the key head of this bar is broken off the roller no longer spins. As such, no paper can be loaded anymore from TRAY 2. I am from Belgium and wondering if this part (black bar) or a kit containing this piece (red circle) can be ordered (which part number?) and where? Question is also if this can be fixed easily by myself? The part (red circle) looks fine to me and is not damaged.
I discovered this problem after I dismantled/took out the the roller. All of a sudden, a small black piece fell out of the component which is circled in green under.

you're not going to like this very much, but....HP warranty is rediculously hard to get.  I ran into two major problems trying to get this printer taken care of--1st.  It seems the only companies willing to do warranty on HP printers will only do it if you purchased the printer from them, and 2nd.  There are very few companies who will do HP warranty anymore.  I found out, much to my dismay, that HP pays on average $30 to repair one of these printers--and because most printers take 2 or 3 hours worth of work to tear down, diagnose, and repair, there simply isn't enough money in it.  I was told by multiple companies here in the Houston, TX area that trying to warranty this printer was a waste of time for that very reason--no one wants to touch HP.
Eventually we DID get the printer warrantied.. But, the only way that happened was multiple phone calls to HP--being bounced from support channel to support channel--until I reached high enough up the food chain to bend someone's ear who actually cared about their job.  At that point it was mostly painless.  I received a refurbished p3005n that, so far, has been working flawlessly.  However, a word of caution, the one-year warranty on the printer is from original purchase date.  Since it took 7 months for that problem to rear its head, and one month to resolve it, I only had 4 months left on my warranty to cover this "new" printer.  I hope the same thing doesn't happen to our refurb. or we'll be forced to purchase another printer.
--and it won't be another HP.

Did that "solve" or cause the problem???

  • 1 month out of warranty...my phone needs to be replaced...Screen problems

My phone is one month out of warranty and the friendly and polite person at
theapple store informed me that it would cost more to repair my phone than get a new one...I am very dissapointed that an Apple product only lasts one year.
For no appearant reason,a couple times a day it scrambles
into a colored mess and shut off the phone. It usually takes several tries to shut off and reset the phone before it works again. The guy at the apple store suggested it was a bad video card or something and it would cost apx $200 to repair or about the same to buy a new one. After speaking to ATT this would change my rate plan to a higher cost and I would lose over 5000 rollever minutes. I am stuck in a bad spot and quite frankly it leaves me with a poor impression of apple products. Im not sure I want to spend the money to get another phone that will fall apart a month after the warranty ends.
anyone have a similar problem or suggestions??

Apple doesn't have a menu of repair services.
For an 8GB first generation iPhone, the "repair" cost is $199, which pays for an exchange.
I have always used Macs for personal use. I have a TiBook (laptop) purchased in the spring of 2002 which is still going strong, and my primary computer is a 17" PowerBook that is approaching 3 years old with no problems. Since I prefer a laptop which is transported on occasion - more often in the past, I usually purchase the AppleCare extended warranty to extend the standard one year warranty by an additional 2 years, which I didn't have to use with my TiBook, and I haven't had to use with my 17" PowerBook either.
I purchased a first generation iPhone on the release date and I was using it up until purchasing the iPhone 3G a month or so after the release date with no problems. This is unfortunate, but it can happen, as it can happen with any computer brand or smart phone brand.
I don't understand why purchasing an iPhone 3G would force you to change your current calling plan with AT&T and lose your rollover minutes. When I purchased the iPhone 3G, the calling plan I had with my first generation iPhone transferred to the iPhone 3G and I didn't lose any rollover minutes.

  • I pod classic battery dies (2n ipod classic that i've had to do this) and won't hold a charge. 1 month out of warranty. How do you get a company to make better products or have better warrantys?

Second time this has happened to an ipod classic that i bought (the last one I bought 14 months ago and it is out of apples warranty.) Battery won't hold a charge or even register when pluged into anything (wall charger, USB, mac book, etc.)
Apple is refusing to do anything except charge me $60 for a refurbished battery (let me remind you that I gave them $370 14 months ago for a brand-new (not refurbished) i pod classic.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this battery issue? The obvious answer is for apple to make a better product (2 ipod classics, 2 ipod classic battery die outs. the most recent purchase in a shocking 14months ago.) Better products or more realistic and forgiving warrantly policys.) I am NOT going to pay for the $60 swap out as Apple has taken enough money from this sucker (will never purchase another shoddy apple product again.)
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Shame on me for giving my $ to apple. THEY ARE A FAD COMPANY WHOSE PRODUCTS ARE PART OF A CULTURAL FAD---nothing real is in there (well SOMETHING was real and working for 14months.)

I feel your angst, especially, knowing that Apple has become the most profitable company in the world, by selling us products that breaks down when the warranty run out, and crap service staff, who doesn't know anything about the iPod Classic, except offer to sell us refurbished iPod classic.
You can get the Battery replaced at 3rd Party store for less.
BTW, (most contributors might not agree with me) if  you recharged your iPod everyday, it will be dead just 2 months after the warranty expires. My logic, the iPod battery will last for about 400 recharge cycles according to Apple Specs listed below
    Charge Cycles
A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles
So if your lifestyle is plugin in to car Audio dock, while driving, and plug in to home stereo while home, then it is 2-3 charge cycles per day.
But then you cant do anything about it, just switch to another media player.

  • TS4088 Has anyone had luck getting Apple to fix the known GPU issue on mid-2010 MPBs that are 2-3 months out of warranty?

My MBP has started shutting down randomly and seems to be related to this known issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
The problem is, it started happening right around the 3 year mark, when this offer seems to expire. It is around the same time Mountain Lion was installed and seems to have made it worse.
I brought it in to an Apple Store and the diagnostics have told me I need to replace the Logic Board which is almost $600.
It feels super unfair as this is a known issue, and Mountain Lion seems to make this issue much worse. The MBP is now 3 years 3 months, and I brought the MBP in to the Apple store about a month ago.
    Anyone?

I had just read about this a few weeks ago, and was also very upset that not only had the coverage expired, but that I was not made aware that this was a known issue. I had been dealing with this issue ever since Lion and it was getting worse. I set up a Genius Bar appointment, and they decided that it was the logic board, and that because it was almost 6 months out of coverage, I would not have to pay the retail $500+, but still have to pay a discounted $310 to get it replaced. They were relatively sympathetic, but couldn't do anything more that to say that I try calling AppleCare, because they would be able to bend the rules more than the Apple Store.
I called right after I left the store. I pleaded with the first guy, staying professional but stressing that it was a little unfair for the reasons listed above. He eventually transferred me to human resources vs. his supervisor, because he said that they may be able to get me farther. I was on the phone on and off of hold for an hour, and they eventually agreed (after some internal research of their own) that it was a known issue large enough to cover the replacement for free. I was setup with a new Genius Bar appointment and got my MacBook Pro back within 2 days of dropping it off. Overall, it was a time-consuming process, but definitely worth the effort.
Now I am dealing with similar glitches, leading me to believe that the new logic board is having the same issues as the old one, but luckily it is under a 90 day warranty so I will take it back and see what they decide to do.

  • Macbook air logic Board has died two months out of warranty. Is this common?

This is the quote to repair

    machine extremely dirty/dusty
mould is starting to grow inside machine
You titled the thread something that would imply your logic board just failed for some reason.  Then you ask if it si common.  Logic board failures are not common on Airs.  Airs in general are very reliable.  They are extremely popular and regularly have the fewest posts on the forums (which implies fewer problems).  However, I would expect failures to be more common among machines that are "dirty/dusty" or that can be described as having mold growing in them.
This doesn't really sound like a failure due to a manufacturing defect so much as a failure as a result of the environmental conditions in which the machine was kept.

  • Out of warranty sad iPod- what can i do?:,-(

The past week or so my 4th gen 20gb iPod has been acting a bit crazy. It started out that sometimes the songs appered to skip, or just go to the next track mid song, play random snippets of songs etc- quite annoying to say the least. i reset it hoping it would just pull itself together but it didnt.
so i moved on to trying to restore it, then the folder with the exclamation came up on the screen and when i tried to restore it it wouldnt work. i used disc utility to do a 'first aid' on it- it did show up in disc utility but not on the desktop or on itunes. the first aid showed 2 minor errors, can't remember what now, i just tried to do the first aid again but the ipod isnt showing up at all now.
it just seems the more i use my ipod, the worse it gets.
the worst thing of all is that its a month out of warranty. im a cash-strapped student that cant afford a new ipod so i desperatley want to get this one fixed. Does anyone have suggestions what i could do with it or any ideas how much an out of warranty repair would cost? i looked at the ipod service faq's and it said if you send in your ipod they will replace it but it will cost you nearly as much as a new ipod.
its also making a clicking noise when the disk spins up, it spins and stops when it clicks. a friend of mine who is studying computer science thinks it has had a head crash (whatever that means...) and that its possible to get the hard disk replaced. does anyone know if this is posible? i live in dublin, ireland, does anyone know anywhere i could go for advice or to get it repaired? i would really appreciate any comments or suggestions, bus journeys are very boring without music!
    Aoife

Thanks everyone for your advice, although i dont think im going to try chucking it off any sofas. unfortunatley there are no apple stores in ireland but im contacting the 3 apple authorised resellers in dublin. so far they have directed me to an ipod repairer in the uk - www.ukipodrepairs.co.uk, if anyone is interested. its gona cost me at least 125 pounds sterling (180 euro, 220 dollars) to get it fixed- i ain't made of money people!
is it common for an ipod to go kaputt after just over a year? i feel very hard done by because i didn't do anything to it to make it stop working. could it be a manufacturing problem?

  • Apple Care replaced my dead, out-out-of-warranty Airport Express

Today, I became one of the hundreds (thousands??) of Airport Express users whose AE died just a few months out of warranty. I faithfully purchase Apple Care (3-year extended warranty) from Apple for every Mac I buy.
A few years ago, my graphite Airport died, and the Apple Care rep gladly replaced it due to my active Apple Care contract at that time. Today, I thought I would receive the same courtesy, thanks again to my TWO active Apple Care contracts that were in place well before I purchased the AE.
My initial Apple Care rep denied my request for a replacement AE, because, he argued, the AE was not purchased at the same time with a Mac. I explained to him the graphite Airport story above, and he dug his heels in deeper. I insisted that he send me up the food chain to a superviser, and after 4-5 min on the phone, the supervisor came on, apologized for his tech's mis-interpretation of policy, and authorized the replacement on the spot. He told me that his techs would have this clearly explained to them for future Apple Care contract holders who call up with a dead AE.
Extra info...I live near an Apple Store, and asked if I may go there and pick up the replacement. He said the decision would be up to the store management--if they had stock, etc. I said I wanted to take my chances and go up there, so he instantly made me an appointment with the genius bar within the hour. This Apple Care supervisor was a real pro. He made it clear that Apple Care covers an AE even if the AE is not purchased with a Mac. He also told me he would make a special request within my case report to the store for a stock unit. Bam! I walked in and got hooked up! Apple does take care of its customer (who might need to be a bit more persistant than need be at times) after all.
Good luck should you find yourself in the same boat I was in...By the way, I am posting this via my replacement AE on the same day, and I would swear it produces faster internet speed than the fried one!

    Hi, Steve
that's one of the good points of the forum here: having a lot of trouble the past few weeks with my iMac, and now also with a brandnew minimac, I get back full with hope by reading your post here.
no, i'm not sarcastic. I think you tell us that we can get treated correctly if we insist to be treated correctly. and that is a a helpful advice.

  • Will Apple replace my iPhone 4 if it's out of warranty?

Okay so I was wondering if apple would replace my iphone 4 even though it is out of warranty? My lock button has completely stopped working and my back camera is too blury to use (I've cleaned it many times).  I went to Verizon and asked about it and the man who helped me said that his warranty was 4 months out of warranty (as is mine) and they still replaced it. Also, they you think that they could replace it with an iPhone 5 free of charge?
    Thank you for your help!
    Alex

No. An iPhone comes with a one year limited warranty unless you purchased Apple Care (extended warranty).

  • TS4088 Obviously if my computer is out of warranty than this isn't really going to help me is it?

Obviously this isn't really going to help me if my computer is out of warranty correct?

Well it probably won't come as a surprise for me to tell you that I can't afford to pay Apple to replace my logic board. I bought mine in September of 2010, so I'm almost 4 months out of warranty. Say I brought this to Apple after a year from purchase, I would had to have paid for the repair. I don't know when this article was posted, but for an intermittent hardware problem, I feel rather cheated for not being notified by Apple of a potential manufacturer's defect, like you would expect from say an auto manufacturer.

  • Dead hard drive just out of warranty

Does HP really not stand behind their products?  My hard drive has failed two months out of warranty and their customer support has been no help in resolving the issue other than trying to get more of my hard earned money out of me.  Anyone else have this problem?   Any suggestions, I'm not sure it makes sense to put more money into this product.

Yes if you can get your hands on a Windows 7 disk.
    Here is the Service Manual:

This is a great deal on a 500 gb 7200 rpm hybrid drive...it has a built-in solid state drive so runs a bit faster than a standard hard drive.  $80 shipped.

  • Out Of Warranty Replacement?

My wife has an iPhone 4 that is just a couple of months out of warranty. The home button is starting to stick and you have to press it fairly hard to get it to register. Plus now the headphone jack seems to be getting loose. I was looking on the Apple repair section and noticed an option to request a repair at my expense.  There was a replace option for around $200. I was just wondering how this works. If I pay the $200 and they can not repair it do they send a new or refurbished unit to replcae it? Or is it just a repair of the current phone. The screen and everything is in great shape, always had a protector and case on it so would hate to get a replacement that has flaws on the screen. Thanks for the help.

Apple does not repair devices.  They will replace batteries, although this is typically done by swapping devices.
They will sometimes replace screens or back cases, but 99% of the time "repairs" are simply device swaps.
The replacements are refurb units and are virtually indistinguisable from a new device.

  • HP LASERJET P3005N NOT PRINTING WITH MANUAL SETTINGS

We have a subnet for our PCs and Thin Clients and we have a subnet for our printers.  The subnet for our PCs and Thin Clients is setup for DHCP service while the subnet for our printers is setup for static addressing.  The HP Laserjet P3005n printer is able to operate effeciently in DHCP mode; it picks up an ip and I'm able to print to it, ping it, etc.  However, it doesn't communicate with the network when I manually configure an address to it; I'm not able to print to it, ping it, etc.  It was working find with the original settings (static ip address) on a Friday then the problem started when the office opened back up on that following Monday.  I've tried different cables, assigning the printer's address to a different printer, different ports, and even installed a JetDirect card into it and it still doesn't fix the issue.....PLEASE HELP!

    <Is this because i just upgraded to 10.5.6? </i>
No, probably not. I have no problems printing to my 3015 from 10.5.6.
Is apple going to do something about this?
Doubtful since it's almost certainly not Apple's problem, per se. Make sure you have the latest printer update, HP Printer Update 1.1.1, which should appear in Software Update if you haven't installed it and will probably appear in the "Installed Updates" pane of the Software Update preference. And if course if it's a networked printer you'll want to ping it to make sure that your system is actually reaching the printer.
If you continue to have problems, you'll probably want to take it up with your IT people or with HP. But you can keep an eye on this thread and see if suggestions to the OP would apply in your case as well.

  • How do you view on iPhone events from iCal that are six months out?

I am trying to synch my iCal with an iPhone. When I synch the calendar it will only show events for the next few weeks. How do I get my iPhone calendar to show events from iCal that are six or eight months out?
    Thanks

    Corey,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What calendars have you chosen to sync in iTunes>Info>Calendars?
What happens in iTunes if you select your iPhone under "Devices," then choose Info>Advanced>Replace information on this iPhone>: and check "Calendars"/"Sync?"

  • My button has stopped working and Apple refuse to fix it. This started happening 9 months after purchase. Product now out of warranty, but the fault is common.

    Hi Apple users,
A few months ago my iPhone 4 button stopped working and has made my phone unusable. Most of my friends that have had iPhones for about a year have a similar fault.
I recently contacted Apple to discuss this and ask how to fix it. They said that it would cost £140 as it is 1 day out of warranty. I should have called a few weeks ago.
As it is known that the fault happens gradually over a period of weeks, I fail to understand how that is not an issue Apple would like to chase up and fix. So, Apple, if this is common, then your design is faulty. I will no longer recommend iPhone to friends.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, do please post your comments here. I'm now chasing up apple to find out if it really does cost £140 to repair something that is broken due to a manufacturing fault.
    E

I don't believe it is as common as you believe it is, I've only known one person with a defective home button (and I know many people with iPhones) and she took it in and had it replaced under warranty.
Did you take your phone in to an Apple Store or did you call? Either way, make a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store and ask to talk to the manager and explain your situation calmly. If that fails, call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to customer service. Again, discuss it calmly.
