HP Laserjet P4014dn won't auto print from tray 1

HP Laserjet P4014dn stopped auto printing from tray 1. Can't manually print from there either. Now it always pulls from tray 2 (bottom tray) even if paper is loaded in tray 1. Auto print is selected in software setting. SN [Personal Information Removed] CB512A. Help!

There may be a couple of reasons why the printer will not auto print from Tray 1.
The following references the User Guide for the printer which you can obtain from here:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01295101/c01295101.pdf
Page 18 of the User Guide has the section "Paper Handling Menu".
This section defines the menu items that can be used to set Size and Type for Tray 1.
Page 85 of the User Guide has the start of the Configure Trays Section.
In this section there are two notes.  If Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE, the printer will pull from that tray whenever media is loaded in that Tray.  If Tray 1 is set to a specific size, it will act like a Cassette.  This means that it will follow the paper handling model of Trays 2, 3, etc..
Example:  Tray 1 is set to Letter, Tray 2 is set to Letter.  When a job is sent from the PC requesting Letter and the Sources is Auto, the printer FW will look for the highest number tray that has letter installed and pull from that tray.  Thus, Tray 2 will always be used unless Tray 2 doesn't have paper.
Page 86 has the section "Configure a tray by using the Paper Handling menu".
Follow the steps in this section to validate that Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE.  If not set to ANY SIZE, ANY TYPE then change the setting to be ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE.  You may have to scroll through the list of sizes and types to find what you are looking for.
Once possibility is that the printer is not detecting that paper is loaded in Tray 1.  One method to verify this is to remove all paper from Tray 2 and lower trays if there are more than just Tray 2 installed. This will force the printer to pull paper from Tray 1 if paper is present.  If paper is present and the Tray 1 menu items are set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE and the printer prompts for you to load Tray 1 with paper, it is possible that the printer is not detecting that paper is in the tray.
In this case, I would recommend you contact HP Support as the media presence sensor may no longer be working properly.

  • Laserjet 6P won't stop printing - prints a line of junk on each page -not connected to network or PC

My HP Laserjet 6P won't stop printing.  It prints a few lines of symbols and characters at the top of each page.  The printer is not connected to a network or computer.  I tried shutting the printer off for a long time.   This started when I tried printing from a MAC to the printer, but now there is nothing connected to the printer.
Any suggestions for resetting, etc.?   I don't know how to reset this printer so I haven't tried anything with the various buttons, etc.

Disable the "Enable bidirectional support" in the P1102w Properties > Ports.

  • LaserJet 3105x printing to Tray 1 - Manual on macs prints from Tray 3

On every other model of LaserJet when the user selects "Tray 1 - Manual" under the mac print options the printer prompts the user to load paper into Tray 1 and waits indefinitely until paper is loaded.
Now with the LaserJet 3015x, the printer just prints the job from Tray 2 without ever prompting or waiting for paper in Tray 1.
If Tray 1 is dropped down and loaded with paper before the user prints it will print from Tray 1. However my users are not accustomed to doing this because all other laserjets do not behave that way.
Windows clients seem to behave the "normal" way, it just seems to be the mac clients and it occurs whether we select the "HP LaserJet 3015" driver or the "HP LaserJet 3010 Series" driver.

Now works for whatever "magical" reason. Question is now a moot point.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8630 won't print from tray 2; says there's no paper

    Action: Print from tray 2.
Expected Results: Paper feeds from tray 2 and prints.
Actual Results: Printer displays "out of paper" dialog.
Notes: Ever since I purchased the Officejet Pro 8630 six or eight months ago, tray 2 has not functioned. It says there's no paper in that tray. I've tried multiple types of letter sized paper. I've inspected the bottom of the main printer unit and the top of tray 2 for signs of damage; there doesn't seem to be any.
Tray 1 works just fine. It's actually a fantastic printer. The best I've owned. If only Tray 2 would work.

  • HP 2100TN - Can't print from Tray 3

I have a Laserjet HP 2100TN. I have it configured with a Tray 3 but it refuses to print to Tray 3. It prints from Tray 2. If I select Tray 1 it works fine (prints from tray 1). This used to work under 10.4.x but has been broken in 10.5.x. I tried reinstalling (Archive and Install) to no avail. I was using the default Laserjet 2100 series driver. I tried Gutenprint version and it worked except I had to select Tray 4 for it to print from Tray 3. Gutenprint, however, only allows me to print up to 600x600 dpi whereas the default Laserjet 2100 series allows me to print 1200x1200 dpi.
I also tried installing the driver from HP and it did not work either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I did as benshaine posted in his thread here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/789780 I installed Firefox 3.5.10 to my desktop, printed from 3.5.10 and then went back into 3.6.x and I could print.

  • Only printing from tray 1 with Matlab

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a HP officejet pro x451, and have set all its default preferences to printing from tray 2 (which holds A4 paper). However, the printer only seems to print from tray 1 and will not continue until I have filled tray1 with paper.
I must specify that I am trying to print via Matlab (printing from Word is fine).
    I hope someone can help!
    Thanks very much.

    Hi BerthB,
When you print from Matlab, have you checked what is the tray source setting in the print dialog? It is a dialog when you click "print" button. Some application softwares might set it to "Tray 1" by default. This will override the setting on your printer, where you set "Tray 2".
You can set tray source setting to "Tray 2" or "auto select" in your case.

  • OfficeJet 8600 Premium - Faxes Only Printing from Tray 2

I'm running into an issue with an OfficeJet 8600 Premium on OS X (Lion), but this shouldn't be OS specific.
It appears that incoming faxes are requiring tray 2, even though the default tray is set to 1 and the media lock is off. The printer reports that it's out of paper, even though Tray 1 is full.
I've removed the lower tray assy, checked the paper size settings within the trays, set the default to 2 and back to 1, set the media lock on 2 with the default on 1, rebooted the printer and computer, but nothing seems to make a change in how incoming faxes are printed.
I am successfully able to print from tray 1 with normal print jobs. For some reason, the fax portion of the printer just defaults to tray 2, and I can't find where I can reset that to tray 1...or to follow the defaults of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

so you are telling me the default is tray2 only and the software does not allow you to choose like ALL prior hp!!!!  This is the dumbest software i have ever seen...i have stuggled with this for over a year to only hear that hp decided what i should do!!!!  all my programs select tray 1 for regular paper and tray 2 for medical claims!  yes it is used for two different types of paper....i do not want to change hundreds of documents because hp decided where i should default print and fax from!  is there a fix to allow me the user to select where i would like things printed from....thanks....how stupid are you hp!!!!  why would you take away choices so basic as to where a fax is printed from.....

  • HP Laserjet P1102w won't stop printing

I've just installed an HP Laserjet P1102w from the disk and it won't stop printing. I've disabled the bidirectional support and gotten rid of all other HP devices on my laptop but it still keeps going - just printing blank page after blank page. How can I stop this?

    Hi @dionysusthewino ,
I see that the printer is printing out blank pages and won't stop. I would be happy to help you.
Clear out the print queue on the computer.
    Then power cycle the printer.
Restore the printer back to factory settings, if you are still having issues. If the printer is networked though, you will have to set it up again.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
If you need further assistance, please provide the results and the following information.

  • HP P2055 (network) - Can't print from trays automatically

    Hi all,
Have a problem with a HP P2055 (networked) printer. We have the addional tray on it, so it has 3 trays in total. It won't print from any tray except the 1st (bypass) tray. Any print job that is sent through to the printer automatically moves to the 1st (bypass tray) and it requires the user to press the "OK" button on the printer to start the job. The job will not start automatically.
This is causing us a massive headache, as a lot of the MS Word letter templates our users want to print have been configured to print the 1st page from tray 2 (filled with headed paper) and the subsequent pages from tray 3. This works on all our other printers but not this one - where are we going wrong?!
    Many thanks for any help
    Kev

    Hi Shellshokd,
Try using the HP Universal Printer Driver which supports a wide set of printers.
The driver is available at this location.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/solutions/business-solutions/printingsolutions/upd.html
Also, just to let you know ePrint also supports some other formats apart from PDF. You can mail doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, txt, html, jpeg, jpg, png, bmp, gif and tiff files directly to your printers email ID.
    I hope this helps.

  • HP M401dne Two Page Printing from Tray 1

When attempting to print a two sided document from Tray 1, the first page prints from that tray, after turning the document over to print the back page, the printer takes the paper from Tray 2.

    >> ... attempting to print a two sided document from Tray 1, the first page prints from that tray, after turning the document over to print the back page, the printer takes the paper from Tray 2 ...
I'm not sure that I understand your reference to "turning the document over to print the back page".
This seems to imply that you are using what is commonly referred to as "manual duplex", where you print all of the even pages, then (manually) take the printed outpuit and place it back in the tray, then print the odd pages on the other side.
[I'm not sure if it's odd first, then even, or vice-versa - may depend on printer model and driver].
But your printer model (LaserJet M401dne) should have a built-in automatic duplexer unit, where duplex action occures automatically, without manual intervention.
Perhaps your printer driver is unaware that the device has a duplex unit?
Ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is):
For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
    Select the Device settings tab.
Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.
You'll probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the device settings.
... or are you saying that the first page prints from one tray, whilst succeeding pages (no matter how many) print from a different tray?

The situation is a bit different than the picture. Windows Server 2008 R2 is available through the WAN. LAN is plugged into the PC-1, PC-2 and Konica Minolta printer. HP LaserJet M1120n MFP is connected via USB to the PC-1. OKI ML 3320 printer is connected via LPT also to the PC-1. PC-1 has access to Konica Minolta printer via the LAN. It seems to me that I found the explanation for the printing problems - some of "my" printers are simply not compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2. I found on the net the following information:
