HP LaserJet Pro 200 m251nw - Printing Gray instead of Black

HI,
Hoping someone can help. I'm currently using a HP LaserJet Pro 200 m251nw printer, just over a year old, and it all of sudden started printing gray where it should be 100% black. From what I can see all the other colors seem to work fine.
I saw similar posts but nothing clear.
A new black toner cartridge was replaced, system settings restored, multiple cleanings, etc. I currently use a Mac Laptop running Mavericks with the latest drivers that I downloaded.
Am I out of luck? Is this beyond a software issue?
Thank you,
Chris

Thanks for providing that information clodsgn.
Since the self test is printing in gray, it would be a hardware issue. Possibly the toner, hardware or the fuser.
What are all the toner levels?
This can affect the output of the black printing.
Are you using all Genuine HP Toner?
The options are probably different, since you changed to Laserjet 251nw drivers. You can change driver back if you like.
Since right now we are looking at a hardware issue.
Run a calibration on the printer.
On the printer touch the wrench, system setup, print quality, color calibration calibrate now.
Print a Diagnostics Page to see if you have the same results. Trying to determine if it is a hardware or software issue.
Go to Setup, Reports, arrow down and select Diagnostics Report. Check the color blocks, any shadows, each corner check the L-shaped to see if the printer is alignment.
Here is a screen shot:
Try this document to see if it will help.
Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues.
Start at the section for Check toner cartridge status and finish up on Check the paper and printing environment.
What were the results of the Print Quality Page and Diagnostics page?
Thank You.

    Hello @lowry_pt,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing print quality issues on your HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw. I would like to work with you today with resolving the quality issues.
Can I have you start by running through the following HP Support document:
    Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues
Please start by printing a supplies status page and continue on with the steps from there. Don't focus on changing settings on the computer until you get the printer functioning properly on its own.
Please respond to this post and let me know if the print quality troubleshooting steps resolved your issue. Good luck!

  • Laserjet Pro 200 M251NW printing Garbage characters multiple pages after just setting up

I am installing the printer for the first time on a Dell Optiplex with Windows 7 32bit, it is about a year old and is working fine with other printers. The printer was working fine through USB on a laptop running windows XP.
Connected the printer to an open USB on the computer and the auto install started running from the printer. It seemed to run OK, I followed all of the prompts, etc. When I said it should print a test page it started printing multiple pages each with a few lines of what I would call garbage text, strange characters, spaces, random letters, etc. It kept printing pages and I had to turn the printer off to get it to stop.
I was thinking that maybe the drivers from the printer were old and not for Windows 7, so I then download the full driver from the HP website and installed that. It said it would uninstall the original driver, which it did, then it installed and again all seemed OK until I printed the test page, and the same thing as above happened. I also tried printing some text from notepad and it went to the print queue then disappeared. It still seemed like a driver problem to me so I manually uninstalled from the start menu program Uninstall for the printer. This time I downloaded the basic driver and installed - still with the same result. I thought maybe it was because the Quick STart from the printer kept loading when the printer was turned on so I turned it off from the menu on the printer, but it still didn't help. I also tried another USB port on the computer with the same result.
Is it possible there is software left from the first install that may not have been for Windows 7 and it needs to be removed manually??
Any help from HP or anyone would be greatly appreciated as I need to get this printer running for our shipping system ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Rich

I tried all of those things and it is always the same result. Even on the network, printing from the same computer. I was able to print properly from a different computer, to the HP 200 connected to the USB and shared on the original computer - so I then knew the USB was OK.
I was looking online further and found the HP Universal  PCL6 driver, and it actually worked! I don't really understand why the proper driver will not work with the printer though. I even created a new user on the computer so all of the programs, etc. would not load, then I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver - still same problem. The computer also has drivers and printer software for Epson printers, so I don't know if that could be causing some type of problem.
It is good that we can at least do basic printing but I really should have the fully functional driver working for the system. Any help from anyone, and hopefully HP monitors these discussions and can help out.
    Thanks,
    Rich

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 M251nw

Everything installed.  Printer directly connected to computer and works fine.  Wireless connected no problem with my laptop.  However having a problem with eprint.  Seems unable to connect to web.  Connection error 500.  Check the internet connection.  Internet connection on display screen reads connected and the internet connection is ok because i am using it to type this letter on my laptop.  Any ideas?

    Hey ptlpip,
I see you are having an issue connecting to web services with your M251nw HP Laserjet Pro 200.  I see you mentioned that you set a Proxy server address to the Google primary DNS server.  However, you should only use the proxy options if your network is setup with a proxy server.  It is rare for home networks to have a proxy address.  I would advise removing these proxy items in the EWS (embedded web server) if this is not the proxy server setup for your network.
Once you have removed this setting, then I would advise power cycling the devices involved: router, pc, and printer.  Make sure to power cycle the router first and wait for it to completely initialize before power cycling the printer and PC.  Once everything is powered back up, then I would return to the EWS of your Laserjet Pro 200.
While in the EWS click on the Networking tab at the top.  Select the Network Identification option on the left of the menu.  Set the IPv4 Primary and Secondary address to the Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 respectively).  Once this is done click Apply and return to the Web Services tab to attempt activation of web services again.
Let me know how it goes,
    Jason

When I use my iMac 27 with this printer, I don't see all the print options in the print menu in Preview etc. that are mentioned in the User Guide.  No "Color/Quality" options/Advanced  etc. to change.   I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP.  I am using OS X 10.9.4.  Am I doing something incorrectly or missing something.  The product is working fine otherwise.

    Hi jerryoster,
    It sounds to me from your description that you might be using the Mac AirPrint driver instead of the HP driver. I suggest the follow;
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
hen you add the printer, ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
Please let me know if this resolves the issue. If you require further assistance, let me know which LJ 200 model you have (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?),  and if you have downloaded and installed the full feature software and driver from the HP website.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer Offline - Windows 8.1

    Hello:
This subject appears to re-appear a lot, but I am getting nowhere in how to fix it.  I have tried various steps recommended on how to resolve this, but it is not working consistently.
    I have 3 PC's:  2 desktops and 1 laptop running Windows 8.1.
I have a wireless network with WEP encription.  I have connected the printer to the network.  The printer IP config is set to channel 6.  The firmware date code is 20121026.
Every time I try to print, the printer is offline.  Sometimes I can fix this by removing the printer from the device listings and then scanning for new printers.  When I do this, it will print for the session I am using the computer, but soon afterwards it goes offline again.
When I plug a computer directly to the printer, it usually works, but not always.
It seems to me that this is a PC driver problem - not the printer, but I am not sure.
    Thanks,
    Scott Nichos

    Thanks for clarifying Scott,
From the printer front panel, click the Setup icon and then tap the Service option.
Select Laserjet Update and then press on Check for Updates now
Allow the printer to complete the task till the update completes.
If the update fails or the device show that the latest update is already installed, temporary connect the printer to your PC with a USB and then update the firmware by running this tool.. be sure to select the newly added USB queue and not the existing network queue:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=lj-108129-6&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Once the update completes, the firmware datecode should appear as 20140521.

  • Can't Install LaserJet Pro 200 M251nw

I have tried to download the driver multiple times from the Hp website. After I download it nothing happens. It won't install. I only use this computer to print coupons only so I don't plan to upgrade it. I have successfully installed this printer on an older Windows vista and a Mac computer with no issues. For some reason it just won't install on this system.  Trying to install it via wifi.  Any suggestions?

    Hi @Brendarv ,
I see that you are having issues running the downloaded drivers for Windows XP. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
I am not sure why the downloaded drivers won't run for you.
The printer supports, Windows XP (32-bit) Service Pack 2, Intel Pentium II or Celeron or compatible processor; 233 MHz
Intel Pentium III or higher processor .
The printer's hardware comes with a Smart Install, by connecting the printer to the Windows XP computer with a USB connection, it will automatically start the software installation of the printer and setup the printer.
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw printer connecting directly to an outlet

I received a new printer for my business because the past hp printers broke one me.  Tech support told me that I needed to connect the printer directly to an outlet and not use an extension cord or a power surge protector.here's the problem:
The designated location of my printer cannot reach an outlet and would need to require an extension cord. Can I use an extension cord from the printer to an outlet? Or is that not safe to do?
I just want to be safe and take the necessary precautions because my past printers have all broke and i don't want this one to break on me.
    Thank you

  • HP Laserjet Pro 200 M276nw printer is printing problem

    Hi all,
I just purchased this new printer, set it up according to the installation instructions, all the pages are coming out with wide red splotches donw the center of every page. I've tried using the "Tools" menu to clean the printer heads and that didn't help. I tried setting the paper preference to "Plain" and that didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions, before I bring this printer back to the store?
    Thanks. Robb.

Welcome to the HP Forums RGrowdon,
I see by your post that the new printer is printing wide red splotches down the center of every page.
I can help you with this issue.
Inspect the toner cartridge for damage:
    1. Remove the toner cartridge from the product and verify that the sealing tape has been removed.
    2. Check the memory chip for damage.
    3. Examine the surface of the imaging drum on the bottom of the toner cartridge.
CAUTION: Do not touch the roller (imaging drum) on the bottom of the cartridge.
Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print-quality problems.
    4. If you see any scratches, fingerprints, toner on the drum or other damage on the imaging drum, replace the toner.
    5. If the imaging drum does not appear to be damaged, rock the toner cartridge gently several times and reinstall it. Print a few pages to see if the problem has resolved.
I have provided a document for Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues.
Go through the steps to see if it will help resolve the issue.
Are these the original toners that shipped with the printer?
If the issue persists, then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you. Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Laserjet Pro 200 Color Printing Horizontal Red Lines

When I print in color, I get horizontal red lines across my page.  When I print in black and white, it doesn't happen.  I've cleaned & calaborated the printer & it's still doing this.  Can anyone help?

    Hi @kjatc,
I see that you are getting red horizontal lines when printing in color. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue today.
I would do a hard reset to see if will help.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
I have provided a document with the steps for calibrating and cleaning the toners, printing a Print Quality page, inspecting the toner for damage, checking the paper and driver settings to see if this will resolve the issue. Some of the steps you have already tried, but please try the other steps listed. Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues.
Print a Diagnostics Page: Go to Setup, Reports Menu, Diagnostics Page.
Update the printer's firmware. Software and Drivers. Select Go under Option 2.
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
    What are the toner levels?
What were the results of the Print Quality Page and Diagnostics Page?
This will help determine if it is just one specific toner, possibly a fuser or hardware issue with the toner. Feel free to include a screen shot of both pages.
If you appreciate my efforts, please click the Thumbs up button below.
Please let me know the results. Thank You.

  • Laserjet Pro 200 M251nw - assist in removing network adapter

I need some guidance as to whether or not I can safely remove the wireless network adapter from this printer, and if so, how can I accomplish this? The printer is designated for use in a closed area, in which no wireless devices are permitted.

    Hi,
Remove any wired connection before attempting to connect via wireless.
Print off the printers network configuration and check the settings against your routers settings.
Ensure that router and printer are using the same frequency.

Having an issue with an M251 I'm redirecting over RDP.  Prints fine the first time, but does not afterwards until the remote computer is restarted.  It's a semi-well known issue with the Printer Status Notifications turned on.  My issue is that on the remote computer has the Printer Status Notifications enabled and greyed out.  The local computer has it Disabled.  Any way I can disable that on the remote computer?  I've tried every method of doing it from the remote computer, but with no luck.

    Hi @Helmut1 ,
I read your post and see that the printer has no power. I would be happy to help you.
Please try the steps in this document to see if it will resolve this issue. Most of the steps you have already tried.
Try another power cord, you can use a monitor's power cord, just to see if you have the same results.
The Printer Will Not Turn On or Respond When the Power Button or Power Switch is Pressed.
Try another outlet in another room on a different breaker, just to rule that out.
