I'm sure I need to install the driver on the remote desktop host server, but the only thing I've been able to find is the full-blown driver install app, which requires the printer be plugged into the machine you're installing the driver on. Must I really physically attach the printer to my server just to get the driver installed?

    For printing through a server, this is not something that is supported through HP. If you want to print from a remote computer a work around that you can use is the Google Cloud Print. I have included the link 'Google Cloud Print'.

    The printer is not compatible with Windows NT, it is supported on Windows XP or later operating systems.
    You might be able to get print capabilities through the network by using an alternative drivers:
    Download and extract the drivers for the Laserjet 5550 below, which uses the same printing language:

    Ensure the printer is connected to the network, from the setup menu select Reports > Config Report and locate the IP address of the printer.
    From the control panel add a printer, select a local printer and create a new Standard TCP/IP port by using the printer's IP address.
    From the printers list select Have disk and browse to the Laserjet 5550 drivers.

  • Printer Install Issues for HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer

    After running the software it keeps telling me install failed check USB, power off then on and try again. I have done all of the troubleshooting methods on your website with no luck. The OS is Windows 7 Enterprise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your post on the hp.com forums.
    Couple of questions: how were you originally installing the printer: USB, LAN cable, wirless? Which software did you try to install: Full Solution or the host based driver (basic print driver)?
    My first suggestion would be to uninstall all software and make sure that you delete all the HP folders for this printer from your C:// drive. Reboot your system and try again.

    I understand that you're getting the error 'Unable to add print driver hpfax1, error code 87' when installing your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer on your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this install issue. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed prior to reaching out for support. At this time I am going to walk you through some additional software and driver troubleshooting steps. Please follow all of the steps below.  If you're using your HP Laserjet through a USB Cable connection, please disconnect that cable now.  Step one: Remove Driver: 1. Click on your Start menu 2. Select Control Panel 3. Select Programs and Features 4. When Programs and Features opens a list of programs installed on your computer will populate. Click on the 'Installed ON' tab at the top to change the date so the recently installed items show at the top. This will make it easier to manually locate the three HP Laserjet items you need to uninstall.  5. Next, look for the HP LJ M1530 MFP Series HP Scan, HPLaserJetHelp_LearnCenter, and HP LaserJet Professional M1530 MFP Series. If you see any 3 of these, or all 3 of these items, please click on them and select Uninstall.   Once you have confirmed that those three items have been uninstalled, please close Programs and Features and proceed to the next step.   Step 2: Clear Temp Files:  Click on your Start menuIn the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboardWhen the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.Close the Temp folder once it is emptiedRight click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling BinPlease proceed to the next step.    Step 3: Download Installer Package:  Please click here to download the Full Feature Installer package. Be sure to Restart your computer if the uninstall process prompts you to.    Step 5: Check Print Server Properties:  Click on your Start menuClick on Devices and PrintersIn the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Laserjet. If you see it listed please right click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'. Next, click on any device listed under 'Printers and Faxes' once just to highlight itClick Print Server Properties at the top of the windowClick on the Drivers tabLook for your HP Laserjet driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottomClick Remove Driver OnlySelect OKSelect Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windowClose Devices and Printers. Please proceed to the next step.  Step 6: Run Disk Cleanup Utility: Click on your Start menuSelect All ProgramsSelect AccessoriesSelect System ToolsSelect Disk Cleanup Run a Disk Cleanup on the C DriveWhen prompted, check Downloaded Program files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin, Temporary Files, and Thumbnails Once the Disk Cleanup is complete, please proceed to the next step.    Step 7: Run CCLeaner:  To ensure that there are no malicious files on your computer or Registry conflicts on your computer I am going to have you run a CCLeaner before we install your printer. Please click here to download the CCLeaner Tool. Once the website opens select the link at the top for 'Free Download'. Once the download is complete please complete the Scan. Should multiple malicious files be found you may need to run the Scan multiple times to remove all malicious files. Once your system comes back as clean, please proceed to the last step.    Step 8: Install Device:  Please click here to download the Full Feature Installer package for your HP LaserjetOnce the download is complete please allow the download to RunPlease follow the onscreen prompts to install your HP LaserjetIf using a USB Cable connection please do not plug in the USB Cable until the installer window prompts you to  Once the installation has completed successfully please test your machine to confirm that everything is functioning properly. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting.     Recently purchased HP Laserjet Pro M1136 MultiFunction printer. But it is not installing HP scan software. But scanner is working by default drivers.

    System drivers updated and USB drivers also updated. But no luck 
    HP Scan doctor also installed. But same issue. HP scan is not identying
    Printer connected to HP Omni 200 PC 5320il all in one system.

  • HP LaserJet Pro m201dw suddenly not printing via ethernet (wired) network using Mac OS 10.10.1

    Hi,
    My brand-new HP LaserJet Pro M201dw is suddenly not cooperating when I go to print using my Mac. I had it set up following the directions which closest matched my OS and it worked perfectly for one week; today suddenly it won't cooperate. The printer is seen on the network. I have deleted and re-installed it from my System Preferences several times. I have rebooted my computer. I cannot seem to get it to work. Even the HP Utility is having difficulty. The HP Utility is suddenly slow and often needs to be force-quit as it hangs when I navigate to other applications (web browser, etc.) while waiting for it to respond to clicks. Most often the HP Utility shows the printer in the status ara as "Device Status: Unknown" and "Supplies: Unknown" which it wasn't having issues with yesterday.
    Can anyone help me troubleshoot this device? Is there better documentation than the basic setup page here on HP? What about adjusting some setting in the printer web page (which I can access) - is the answer in there?

    I see that you are having issues printing over the wired network. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
    Try and ping the printer.
    On the Apple menu bar, click Go, then click Applications, then Network Utilities. (you can go to the finder and type in Network Utilities)
    Click on PING from the bar at the top of the window.
    Enter the IP Address of the printer and click Ping.
    Did you get any replies back?
    Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
    On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
    Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
    Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
    Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
    Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
    Click OK to confirm the reset.
    Type the correct Name and Password.
    Click OK to reset the printing system.
    Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Try printing again.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer Not Saving Downloaded Fonts

    Hi,
    we have recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer which needs to be used with a system that downloads fonts for correct style printouts. The problem I am having is the fonts download initially which is great, but they are not saved by the printer after 1 printout so the user is having to download the fonts everytime she wants to print something.
    All other printers in the office are HP2055 and work as expected saving the fonts after the initial download. I have asked the support team of the application to have a look at the situation and they say everything is setup correctly so it may be an issue with the printer. Printer is installed on a Windows XP SP3 PC.
    Firware version: 20121205 (15 Dec 2012)
    Driver Version: 61.140.04.14138 (1 Jan 2013)
    Any help would be appeciated, thanks.

    If the downloaded soft fonts are definitely not being saved (despite the download presumably terminating with a 'make soft font permanent' escape sequence), then the problem must lie in the firmware - and the only resolution is if HP releases  a new version with a fix.
    To be certain about which PCL5 fonts are resident in the printer, you have presumably printed off a  'PCL5 Typeface List' via the relevant front panel menu (assuming this printer has one).
    Or you could send the following direct to the printer to invoke that report:
    <Esc>%-12345X@PJL COMMENT Print PCL Font List
    @PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040004010105020402015E"
    <Esc>%-12345X
     where <Esc> represents the non-graphic) Escape control-code character (the character with decimal code 27, or hexadecimal 1B), and each PJL statement is terminated with a LineFeed control-code (decimal 10, hexadecimal 0A).
    Assuming that the printer is USB-connected, you could send the contents of the file (name, say, testfile.prn) holding the above to the printer using the copy command in a command-prompt session:
    copy /b testfile.prn \\computer-name\share-name
     where:
    computer-name is the name of the host workstation
    share-name is a share name of the installed Windows printer instance.
    I don't have access to your model of printer, but I do use a LaserJet Pro 400 Colour MFP 475dn (MFP equivalent of M451 printer), and this does appear to retain downloaded 'permanent' soft fonts - but only until the device goes into 'sleep' mode!
    So it is probably a common 'fault' (or 'design decision'?) across this family (LJ Pro 400) of printers.

  • LaserJet Pro MFP M125a not printing

    Hi,
    my relatively new LaserJet PRO MFP M125a stopped printing today. Scan function is still working. All lights are on. Cannot print test page. When I try to print Word or PDFdoc, spool is empty, no job is waiting. 
    Uninstaled all HP software and drivers, cleaned registry, installed it again. Nothing. Changed USB cable, it worked for few pages, then turned off. When I turned it on, problem is here again. Changed USB cable again, but no luck. 
    Windows is fresh, new HP drivers...
    Help is needed.

    I would like to help you with getting the printer, printing again.
    Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.

    I see you are getting an "error 2 download" message and can not complete the firmware update. Please complete the steps in the following document; A 'Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download' Error Message Displays on the Control Panel.
    If the issue persists, I recommend calling HP and letting the know the issue as well as the steps you have already completed. It may be helpful to even let them know you completed all of the steps in HP document #c03109721.
    If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check. Even if the printer is out of warranty I suggest still calling HP to see if there is something they can do to help.

    I'm consdering about buying HP Laser Jet Pro M1212nf MFP Printer.
    I feel like it's the printer that has all the specs that I need.... Except for automatic duplex printing.
    Automatic duplex printing is super important to me and I'm sad that the M1212nf does not provide it.
    However, I did see that it has duplex printing driver support.
    I was wondering what this driver support is (I've been spending hours on the web trying to get a definition but nothing!)
    and if it will work on a Mac, I saw couple threads that said that some HP printers don't offer duplex printing driver support for mac computers.
    So basilally, I'm wondering how the duplex printing will work if I install the driver support.
