Hp laserjet pro p1606dm with yosemite with usb wont print but printed on a network

hp laserjet pro p1606dm with Mac Yosemite using a USB wont print. Printed however when used on a network. Downloaded a driver again, though driver already installed. Driver was a dmg file and wouldn't open. Forum told me to use Safari to open a dmg file but that didn't work. Help! Want to use the printer at home that I was using at the office.

I understand that you are having issues printing from a USB connection, but you were able to print by a Wired Network connection. I will certainly do my best to help you.
The drivers for 10.8 are installed by the Apple Updates.
Once the printer is connected by a USB cable directly to the Mac, you should be able to just run the Apple Updates to install the drivers automatically. Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update.
Delete any of the older drivers first.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet P1606dn)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Try printing again.
If you run into any issue, please do the following:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
Restart the computer..
Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
Try printing again.
If you are still having any issues, download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.

    I arrived here looking for a solution!  And while reading your post the penny dropped that I didn't have a serious problem.  I have a booklet of 112 pages and all I needed to do was re-order the pages as printed so that 1 is followed by a sheet with 2 on the under-face but same side and so on.  The pages had printed back to front and needed flipping.  But then I have a duplex printer and maybe that makes a difference.  Is it to do with your manual duplexing and the order that the second pass is presented to the printer.  As my duplex sheets effectively needed flipping over each one I'm wondering if you can solve your problem with a little experimentation and re-ordering before your second pass.

  • New laserjet pro cp1525 ejecting extra, blank, page at end of print request. how do you stop?

    Just installed a new Laserjet Pro CP 1525nw.  It wants to expel a blank sheet after every print request.  How do I stop it from ejecting the blank sheety at the end of the print request. 

    Is this only on a certain app? What about printing a windows test page or even from notepad? If these are ok then this would suggest its the page setups in the program you ate using rather than driver / printer.
    If its all apps try the reports from the printer direct, if this is ok then it's probably drivers. Remove from safe mode and download updated.

    I have a problem with scaning on wireless hp app on samsung galaxy tab3. HP is online, when I tap 'scan' buttom, I can see black screen only with two buttons, preview and scan. Both of them does not work, when I tap them, there is short information - preparing scan, and -- a black screen, scanner does not move.
    When I switch off HP printer, app indicates that it is not connected.

    I would like to print page with printers code for HPePrint center in order to add printer to the service. When I switch on this service - I get information that test page with configuration will be printed - and HP is not printing anything.
    Other reports are printed correctly, just after click, only that one does not work.

    Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, I do appreciate it.
    Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer.  The steps can be found in the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection document.  It is Solution Three.  For the Primary DNS Server please use 209.244.0.3 and for the Alternate DNS server please use 209.244.0.4.  These are Level3’s public DNS servers.
    Please let me know the outcome.

  • WRT610N with HD on USB port + WD TV Live on the network

    Hi,
    from the WD TV Live I can share everything and I can see it from the net. I can see the HD on WRT610N USB port from WD TV live but I cannot get in, I cannot see folders. What is more, no access User name and PSW is required when I try to get in the HD media server, no access data required.

    Sorry for the banal question, I sorted out. Reading the manual I found out that Auto login option in the WD setting panel was to be disable: that option is to access to the net devices requiring PSW and Username and not to protect the WD access through the LAN. Disabling the Auto Login, my Media Server asks me PSW and Username to access and, once given, I could browse from the WD to the Router HD (pluggeg to USB slot of the WRT610N).

  • Cannot load printer driver -- direct USB to HP Laserjet 1020. OSX finds the printer, but "Print Using" will not accept the driver. I downloaded from HP, installed the DMG and PKG. Things looks OK, but Print Using: won't accept the driver. Please help !

    Sorry for the long title -- I am new to this forum.
    This should be SIMPLE -- just trying to get old Mac G4 desktop to print on directly attached (USB) HP Laserjet 1020.
    Several online sources say the HP drivers for Laserjet 1022 work fine ...
    I deleted all printers, installed the HP drivers (all prompts indicate it is installed fine), re-connected the printer by USB. OSX recognizes the printer and auto-populates its name in the Name: box, puts "desktop" in the Location: field ... and the Print Using: field is gray, saying "Please select a driver or printer model"
    I click the arrow to expand options, choose Other ... and get a selection box for identifying the driver. I open the folder with the PKG file and click it ... and then find myself back at the printer setup with the the Print Using: field still gray, and still saying "Please select a driver or printer model."
    I have tried this process a half-dozen times with re-starts in between --- cannot get past this sticking point -- aargh !
    Any advice would be welcome. Thank you !

    Anyway, getting old here, but I think I have an hp 1022 at work that works fine in 10.3, 10.4, & 10.5.
    Try this & let us know the outcome...
    Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

  • Setup Problem with 8500a, computer does not sees printer, but printer sees router

    When  updated my wireless router (AC 1200) my 8500a had to go to the "guest network".  The printer sees the router and prints the test pages fine, the computer does not see the printer and I can not print.  During the setup, when I enter the IP address off the printer, the computer does not find it.  What can I do? I am running windows 7 premium.

    I understand that you're trying to setup your printer.  Is the computer you're trying to connect to the printer on the same guest network as the printer?

  • HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw unable to communicate with product

    Hi guys,
    I've had a HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw for 12months now and it has worked great over my wireless network. I recently upgraded from router from a 5 year old single band router to a late model dualband wireless N router.
    Since i did this my HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw was unable to reconnect to my new network.
    I have uninstalled the drivers and have tried reinstalling the drivers but each time (after I select Connect the Product/Coonect through wireless network, have tried both Yes retrieve the wirelss settings on my computer and No I will enter the wirelss settings manually) but no matter which I select the printer is installed successfully but then gets stuck at 15% and says cannont communicate with the product.
    I have disabled my firewall during the installation and have only used the USB cable when the installation has asked me to do so.
    The printer is visible in control panel but each time I do a test print or send something to the printer in the sys tray the print job is shown but nothing ever happens.
    The installation will work fine if I install it via the directly connect to the computer using USB option.
    If I do a test print fromt he printer itself by going into the network setting, network test it prints a page that says:
    Wireless On Pass
    Wirelss Working Pass
    Network Name SSID Found Fail
    Security Fail
    Your HP printer cannot find your wirelss router. The WPA authentification method on your HP has changed fromt he default setting.
    Is there anyway I can edit the SSID network name and password without having to do this install process?
    This is really frustrating. Just spent 3 hours with HP support which got me know where (they were reading the script the supplied me) and then when I rebooted and went to go back to online chat support the website tells me their support is only available during business hours!
    Any help would be great

    OK time to back up totally.   I need to make sure you are following the instructions in the user guide to install this printer.  Please start from scratch by uninstalling all software from your computer and outline every step to make sure it is correct. 
    You have to use the USB cable to set up the wireless connection.

    The reason we have to start over is that you started the software installation when you changed your router.  You don't have to do this, but now we do.

    LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP m475dw- Just installed. Scan, print ,copy ,fax all working fine! using WiFi 
    Using IMAC  OS 10.8.2 with all updates
    Using Netgear router  DGN2200v3
    Printer will not connect to HP  ePrint Website
    Printer connects to the Hp Support and Profile for fax set up etc.  But the  "HP Web Services"  Section when entered and hit the Enable Button-- It does not connect to the site --- it just seems to just refresh.
    if i try to connect thro the printer not the imac  and try enable web services it says" Connecting " on the screen BUT after a few minutes of trying --------  then says " CONNECTION ERROR-- the printer is unable to connect to the service. Check the internet connection 
    ANY IDEAS-- AM I MISSING SOMETHING ???

    I would try pulling up the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the IP address for the printer in to a browser and set a static IP address & DNS. 
    The information for the default gateway, subnet mask and that IP address can be accessed from the Setup menu on the front panel,  go to Setup>> Reports>> Network summary  and that will print it off.
    Once you have entered the IP in to a Browser and have the EWS pulled up, navigate to the tab at the top labeled “Networking”. Then click on IPv4 in the left column; that will bring up the Address configuration page.  Set the radio button to manual and fill out the IP address, Default gateway and Subnet mask with the information from the report. Do not worry about filling out the portion titled WINS server, that can be left alone.
    You will then want to fill out the DNS portion of the page, The Preferred should be set to 8.8.8.8 and the alternative/secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4. Then click “apply”
    Power cycle the printer. Turn it off, wait 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Once it is completely up and running reattempt to connect to web services.

    So, I've installed every possible thing for printer, started cups in browser, added my printer etc.
    But under administration tab, where I need to enter a connection with provided examples, I get lost completely:
    Examples:

    I have no idea what do I set the connection to.

    all variants give me "The printer URI is incorrect or no longer exists" or "unable to blablabla"
    How do I make this thing work?

    Finally got it working.
    First you need to run "hp-setup" or "hp-plugin" utility from hplip package. This utility ("hp-setup") downloads the needed proprietary driver for Laserjet Pro p1102, extracts it and installs, then it installs printer and does all the other necessary stuff ("hp-plugin" just downloads, extracts and installs the driver). Then you can finally add a printer via CUPS.
    That is it. Now you're ready to print.
    The common error that may occur while downloading the proprietary driver with "hp-setup" or "hp-plugin" is extraction stage. It is all due to python3, python 2.7 bindings in the system. "hp-setup"|"hp-plugin" use python 2.7 while all modern arch systems are binded to use python3. To fix this simply "ln -s /usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/python".
    Don't forget to put "cupsd" into your daemons array and "lp" to your modules in rc.conf.
    I also didn't blacklist "usblp", just in case.
    And final note, don't forget to add "yourself" to sys group with:
    # usermod -g sys yourusername

    Hi, I have updated to OS X Yosemite, I am using AE 13.1.1.3, and now I am having an issue with RAM-Preview that makes working with AE problematic: When I start the Preview by hitting "0" on the Numpad the Ram Preview starts, but I am not able to stop it anymore until it has rendered to the end of the work area.
    It is also strange that I am able to move keyframes while it renders.
    The Shift-Ram Preview is also affected by this bug.
