HP laserjet won't print.

We have the latest updates to Snow Leopard on a 27" IMac. We have had this printer (CP2025dn), USB, for a couple of years. All of the sudden The print job is sent, the green light on the printer flashes as usual, Then the error light flashes and the printer resets and goes back to ready. When the error light flashes the computer goes from printing to printer offline, then when the printer resets and says ready the computer says the printer is paused. You can unpause but it will only reset the printer and go back to ready and end up paused again.
I downloaded the 450 megabytes printer drivers and tried to re install the printer. It gets down to 1 minute left and gives me this notice " The system extension "/system/library/extensions/hpplugininit.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used.
Finally I deleted the file and it took about a half an hour but said it installed correctly.
The problem is still there. We can't print.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Jerry

The first thing to do is make sure you are not just trying the same failing operation repeatedly.
Example operation:
Printing document A, in application A, logged in as user A from computer A, to printer A fails.
It make sense to try again, and sometimes it's a momentary communications glitch that clears up, and document A prints fine on the next try.
If you've tried printing document A, in application A, logged in as user A, from computer A, to printer A more than once, and it fails, then:
Try printing doc A, in app A, logged in as user B, from computer A to printer A.
Still fails?
Try printing doc B, in app A, from computer A, to printer A.
Still fails?
Try printing doc C, in app B, from computer A, to printer A.
Still fails?
Try printing doc A, in app A, from computer B, to printer A.
Still fails?
Try printing doc A, in app A, from computer A, to printer B.
etc...
Next, power down the computer and printer entirely, then power them back on.
If the Mac prints to other printers fine, then it is an issue with the printer. Get support and/or repair from the vendor.
If the printer prints from other computers, then it is likely the Mac. Try a clean install of the OS on the Mac.
If you only have computer A and printer A, switching user accounts between tests will at least pin down whether it is a system wide issue, or a user account issue.
If it is system wide, then you will still need to determine if it is an issue with the printer or your computer. I usually recommend running Disk Utility from an alternate boot disk (your computer's OS Install media will work) and repairing any problems with the drive, then repairing permissions.
If there are still issues, the Clean install of the OS can eliminate the computer primary boot volume's OS as the cause.
It is possible, if you cannot verify the printer by using another computer, that the printer has a hardware problem.
Just my 2 cents. Which troubleshooting steps your perform first is up to you. I like to start with checking/repairing the boot volume, and work my way out.

  • Upgraded arris hi-speed router to my xfinity, now my old hp4000 laserjet won't print ethernet routed

I just upgraded to an Arris hi-speed router to my Xfinity but now my old HP 4000n Laserjet won't print ethernet routed... What to do?
It worked simply fine from my previous Netgear Router that I ran off the previous old xfinity modem (w/o builtin) router. Much Thanks for your step by step instruction.  I am running Windows 7 fyi.

On the front of the printer, probably in the Network menu, can you tell if the printer has a valid IP address, indicating that it is properly connected to your new router?
If so (and I would guess that it is), then your PC needs to re-establish communication with it:
First, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    Next:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • X61 won't print to HP Laserjet 5200tn

Hello.  I work in a college.  A user wants to print to the 5200tn next to his office but cannot with his new X61 tablet.  We tested other computers and they print fine to this printer, but in testing another X61 tablet no prints would be produced.  Pinging the printer is fine from the tablets, the install of the printer goes fine, drivers are updated, so it appears everything is o.k. but for some reason X61 tablets won't print to a Laserjet 5200tn in our network.
    Any ideas?

    Hi @nocastaway,
I see by your post that you can't print multiple copies. I can help you with this.
From the application your printing from, go to File, Print, Number of copies select 2. Uncheck Collate. You can now change the number of copies. Collate should now stay unchecked.
Try printing the multiple page document again.
You might have to disable all the startup items, to see if there is another program causing this issue.
How to use MSCONFIG. Click on the Startup tab and disable all.
    Test the printer.
Then go back in and enable all from the Startup tab.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor if you are still having issues. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
    What applications have you tried?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

  • HP LaserJet 5200 Print Queue Disappears or Won't Print Jobs

This problem has been ongoing for years, and can usually be overcome by either power-cycling the printer or cancelling the queue and reprinting. I have searched for nearly 6 years for a solution to this, but there was never anything that worked  so we just muddled through it. But for some reason within the past few days has now escalated to the point that the printer won't print at all.
For starters: we're on Mac 10.8.3. That really shouldn't make much difference, however - as this problem has been around with other computers running older OS as far back as 10.4. Currently, the HP 5200 LaserJet is hooked up to USB (no Jet Direct card) and is shared on the network. No updates have been made (nor are there any available) for 6-9 months at least on the computer or printer. The only consistent part of this issue is that regardless of computer (we have hooked up three of them) the same problem persists at the same workstation (we changed it up today to troubleshoot - see below).
I have performed the following troubleshooting in the past two days:
    • Installed and re-installed the printer software three times.
    • Reset the printing system in the Print/Fax System Preferences five or six times.
    • Power-cycled the printer, deleted the queue and reprinted approximately 30 times.
    • Turned off printer sharing and turned on printer sharing to no effect either way.
    • Restored the printer to factory settings to no effect.
    • Tried running with the 5200 PPD and a Generic PS Printer PPD, no effect either way.
    • Hooked the printer up directly to the computer and through a powered USB hub, no effect either way.
    • Hooked up four different USB cables, two of which are from computers using printers that are not experiencing any connectivity issues.
    • In the HP Utility, when hooked up direct via USB, the Service ID, FW Version, Serial and Product numbers come up as 'unknown'
    • In the HP Utility, when hooked up via sharing the HP Utility will not work at all with the printer.
Most of the time I get the error of "Printing-Waiting for printer to become available" when sending a document. It doesn't matter if I send it from TextEdit, Safari, Chrome, or any Adobe program - it doesn't print.
Sometimes the document will act as if it's printing, and the light on the printer blinks - then it disappears without printing. The Print Log from the printer does not show anything being printed.
Prior to this new problem, we had an older 5200 printing exhibiting the same escalated issues. When I went to upgrade the firmware (Firmware date code of 20090716), the computer and printer lost connectivity and the formatter board became damaged. HP replaced our printer with another 5200 - which is now exhibiting the same issues. The new printer carries a Firmware date code of 20071017.
So, under these similar circumstances, upgrading the firmware is not an option as I don't think I can upload to the printer without losing the connection and damaging the formatter board again.
At this point, the printer simply won't print regardless of what I do.
I have moved the printer to another Mac using 10.6.8 and it is currently printing, but that is only a temporary fix. Edit: 3.5 hours later, the printer is exhibiting the same issues, and I am currently SOL on printing anything again.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying - I was able to print a configuration page from the printer. I am not sure how to send text directly to the printer (assuming you mean by bypassing the print command window) - if someone has this info for a Mac, I can give it a try.
Additionally, I forgot to report the troubleshooting using the HP Utility (which made me think of when dansdaduk suggested printing directly to the printer):
    • When hooked up direct via USB, the Service ID, FW Version, Serial and Product numbers come up as 'unknown'
    • When hooked up via sharing the HP Utility will not work at all with the printer.
For a long while, I thought it may be something with the printer, but I believe it has to do with a USB connection conflicting in some way on the Mac OS, especially considering that we have had two printers manufactured at two different intervals across several years exhibiting the same issues. It's the only constant that remains, even when hooked up directly and not shared, or hooked up and shared across different computers regardless of the OS.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 400 MFP M425dn won't print text at 72 point size or larger

My workplace recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 MFP M425dn all-in-one printer. It works excellently with the exception of the fact that it won't print text that's 72 points or larger in size. I've tried numerous fonts that're pre-installed with Windows, and all of them print properly at point size 71.5 or smaller; anything else simply doesn't show up in prints. The content that's sized at 72 points or higher *does* affect the flow of other printed content on the page, however. It's like the 72-point or larger text is occupying space, but it's completely invisible on the printed page. I've tested this using Microsoft Word 2002 on three separate computers, two of which have Windows 7 installed and one of which has Windows Vista installed. The problem is identical on all three computers. The printer is connected via ethernet cable to our wired network. I've installed the included printer software, and I don't believe that there are any updates to it that weren't installed up to this point. Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue?

hello, i only made an account to solve this for you guys because it has been a headache for me also.... let me apologize before hand for terrible grammar and punctuation i am in a huge hurry  Now this may not work for everybody but i fixed it on my machine with the following   now before you print ...use (ctrl+p) in your word processor to open the print window click on (properties) then navigate to the (advanced) tab now, I have a section called printer features under this category there is an option to "send truetype as bitmap" enable this and see if it can help any of you, for me, with this ENABLED I can print any size font my word processor will allow me to type  specs of my machinedell d6420win7msoft word 2007 printer itself is hp laserjet 200 color m276 printer driver is HP LaserJet 200 color MFP M276 PCL 6 i understand that this printer and driver is not identical to yours per se  but the nature of these drivers makes it highly likely that this solution will work for most of you  if this helps, have somebody else post it more noticeably because i will probly not be signing back in to this website i created this account just to post this and hopefully solve this annoying issue for many of you ...no kudos needed

  • HP Color Laserjet 1515n won't print

Haven't been able to find an answer anywhere.  Even disconnected from the network and stand-alone, the HP Color LaserJet 1515n (product number CC377A bought at Costco not too long ago) won't print.  Can't print configuration page, no demo page.  Nothing.  It just sits there saying "printing" and flashing but never does anything else.  Tried resetting through the menus. Didn't work.  Tried holding down the right arrow and X to reset NVRAM.  Didn't work.  Any help?  For when I do get the printer to work on it's own, I'm on Windows 7.

  • HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer won't print the last page of documents & envelope problem

My HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer won't print the last page of documents until i send another document, then it will print the last page of the previous document, but omit the last page of the current document.  I need to keep printing a blank page or any other page to get my previous documents completely printed.  Also, the envelopes print with large rectangular boxes on them and no address (I don't know if this is a result of the previous stated problem or not - it started happening at the same time) I use the envelope feature in Microsoft Word 2010.  I never used to have either of these problems - didn't make any changes to the system or add any software to the computer, so I know it's not that.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Hp laserjet 3030 would print and now won't

When I plugged in the hp laserjet 3030 all-in-one to my mac mini and added a printer it worked!
Then, I found the driver CD that came with the printer so I thought I'd install the HP Director so I could scan etc.
Now the printer won't print, I used to get an error message that said something about a postscript and the number 13. I don't recall the entire message because I no longer get it, instead ...
I see in the printer que window that it is starting the job, then it just quits without anything being printed.
I've tried to unistall and install the printer multiple times. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I go to printer/fax preferences and remove any printers from my list. I've gone to user/library/printers and deleted any printers in that folder. I'm nervous to delete items in the mac hardrive/library/printers folder.
I've repaired disk permissions multiple times.
    No luck
The strange thing is that I can use the hp director to use the scanner. The scanner works but printing won't go through.
    Please, please help.

Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues
The following tips can help you troubleshoot and avoid wireless connectivity issues. You can try these tips separately or in combination to get a successful wireless signal.
Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.
Make sure the router is broadcasting at 2.4 ghz and not 5 ghz.

  • LaserJet 2600n won't print Ms. Word doc, Publisher, nor excel. Sends paper thru, but no print on it.

My HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer won’t print a Microsoft Word document, nor a Microsoft Office Publisher, any longer. When I try printing a Word document in `either black or colors, the printer sends the paper through, but no print is on the paper. When I click “Properties” in the print dialog box, I get a pop-up window saying, “Word cannot bring up the properties dialog because the printer returned an error.”
I reinstalled the printer driver, and restarted my computer, but this did not help. None of the trouble shooting actions helped.
However, it does print from notepad. But when I tried to print a Ms Excel document, the error box said, “Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer.” And when try to print a pdf file, I get message, “Adobe Reader stopped working.”
    I use a 64-bit Toshiba Satellite P505 with Windows 7.

I felt i had to come to help you if your problem was not solved.
I've a customer who just came up with this problem.  He is using Office 2003 on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits.  He is using also a Color LaserJet 2600n.  We just reinstalled his software on a new computer and we started experiencing "Current Printer Is Unavailable" in Excel.  When trying to access Page Setup, it was also giving us that same message, and
then we had a dialog listing every computer available.
We produced a PDF, tried to print from Acrobat Reader, it crashed too the same way you mentionned.
    Here's what happenned:
We first installed the driver available from HP web site
    We did some updates from Microsoft Web Site.  There was an optional hardware update for the LaserJet 2600n, so we installed it.  This update is completely {Language Filter Evasion}
Uninstall your printer driver (well, just remove it from your printer list)
Then reinstall it.  In our case, it was accessed thru IP.
When it was installing, it asked us to keep the same driver or REPLACE the driver...  pick-up REPLACE the driver!
And you are good to go...
