HP Laswe Jet printer with parallel port cable

My dear, dear printer has served me 14 years. It has a parallel port and is a HP Laser Jet 4 L printer. Where can I get the right cable to connect this printer to USB port on my Mac mini?
Thanks for your help,
Tonta

There are plenty of sources on the Internet that sell a Parallel to USB Printer Adapter Cable. Take a look here.

I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.3 and have connected an Epson Workforce 2540 printed that is allegedly Airprint enabled. I can connect and print with a USB cable but can't connect via Airprint. My colleague running 10.7 can. Is this a feature of 10.8? Any ideas for a fix?

iOS devices use AirPrint to connect to a supported printer. OS X will use Bonjour to locate and connect to the same printer.
With the Epson connected to your wireless router, when you open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add, does the Epson appear in a small box with a heading of Nearby Printers?
If not and a window appears showing Default, Fax, IP and Windows in the toolbar, do you see the Epson with the Default view selected?

  • HP Laserjet 6MP fails to print with parallel-to-USB converter cable

I have a LaserJet 6 MP parallel printer which I was using in 10.3.9 with a parallel-to-USB converter cable. The Printer Utility saw it natively as a USB device and it printed just fine most of the time, although it would occasionally fail to print, so I installed a different driver called usbtb 1.0.15, and after that it printed very reliably.
Now I've upgraded to 10.4.9, and the Printer Utility still detects the HP printer natively as a USB device, and I also installed the formerly-reliable usbtb driver again, but the printer now fails to print with either driver. It acts like it's going to, but then it quits.
When I choose Print, all the features of the printer are shown, and I can select which tray to take paper from etc., and the printer dialogue box says "Printing," the activity light on the printer flashes just as it always does when printing is in progress, but then, instead of printing, the activity light stops flashing and the print job disappears from the dialogue box.
Can anyone tell my why this printer is failing to print now, and how I might be able to get it working again?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Wait a minute! It's only certain Indesign documents that won't print.
    All TextEdit docs will print.
I created a few scribbles in Photoshop and they print.
But with InDesign, there is no predicting which documents will print or will not print. On some that will not print, if I remove all but one text box, then they will print. On other documents that do print, if I copy some text off of one that won't print and paste it in, then that one stops printing too.
On some that won't print, if I erase everything on the page and create a new text box and type a few words into it, the page will print. If I revert to the previously saved version, once again the page won't print.
What kind of craziness is this, anyway? It seems random. I can't figure it out.
Even on the documents that won't print, when I try to print them the printer's activity light blinks as though it is just about to print, but then the light goes out without printing.
Anybody got any ideas what this problem is and how to fix it?
All I know is that EVERYTHING printed before I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.9.

  • E4200V2 Print adapter - parallel port to usb compatibility.

Currently my setup works fine except that I need another ethernet port.
I have a E4200V2 with a HP laserjet 4000N printer connected via JetDirect ethernet and I am able to print with any of my devices.
However, because I have need of another ethernet port, I am wondering if anybody has tried using a parallel to usb cable? The parallel side of the cable being connect to the printer and the usb side to the router.
Has anybody done this, or even know if it can be done?
Or if I really want that port made available, will I have to get some type of external print server?
I know that HP makes a JetDirect Card with a USB port, however, I don't want to spend the $80 on ebay to get a used one if a $10 new cable will work.

hiptechboy: "When I hear someone say that they want to use a Parallel to USB cable, I can't help but think of an HDMI to VGA cable haha. Anyways, I think that you have zero chance with a cable like that."
Sadly, I think you right. The only reason why Parallel to USB does work is because the computers can emulate a parallel port through USB. Just like the HDMI to VGA. You’re not going to go from your computers VGA port to your TVs HDMI and have things turn out the way you want them to. It only works one way. For lack of a better term I was hoping my new router would be "smart" enough to emulate a parallel port through the USB.
While I have no doubt that it is capable of doing so, the question is if the router is programed to do so without the need for me to build and load a custom ROM. Might not be a bad idea except that I doubt that there is a market to actually make that worthwhile financially. The time and effort required will go way past the $50 I’m willing to spend to make this work.
I think I will just go troll around the University Surplus store and hope to luck out on a HP JetDirect USB Card.

  • When attempting to print with HP P2015 cabled to AirPort Extreme, error message is "Network host (name) is busy".  What's happening?

When attempting to print with an HP P2015 cabled to an AirPort Extreme, the network won't connect to printer.  The Print Que message is "Network host (name) is busy; will retry in (number) seconds."  When I delete the file to be printed, the Print Queue screen says "Printer Ready".
    More Information:
The printer's Queue Name is Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet P2015 Series
The Location is "(my name) AirPort Extreme"
URL is "Hewlett_Packard%20%HP%20LaserJet%20P2015%20Series._pdl-datastream._tcp.local./ ?bidi" (for whatever that means)
    Driver Version is 18.4
Printer Software is HP LaserJet P2015 Series
The printer is listed as a printer on System Preferences/Print&Fax screen
If I connect the printer cable directly to the iMac, the printer works fine.
Any helpful directions would be greatly appreciated.

I came across an Apple article last modified 6/2/08 (Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule).  It suggested the old standby, i.e., disconnect the AirPort Extreme Base Station from its power source, turn off the printer, turn on the printer, and reconnect the AirPort to its power source.  It worked.  I guess disconnecting the AirPort cleared out the network host.  Yea.

  • Comms with parallel port

    Hi
I am trying to send  a command to a printer via the parallel port, but am having no joy. I have set  the BIOS printer port setting to 'Bidirectional', and created a small test program as  attached.
I need to send an  <ESC>A, 10 (hex), <ESC>Z in order to stop the printer during a print  run,  and an <ESC>A, 11 (hex), <ESC>Z to restart the printer. I have used the functions found in the example, but maybe I'm misunderstanding the functionality of the functions?

    Hi Alan,
I was working on a windows 2000 sending a signal to the parallel port using a Out Port.VI and it worked fine because the format of the computer was a 378 like you have in your program; however, when i tried to use this program in a windows vista, this didnt work because the format of the parallel port of this computer was BD00-BD07, which is not written in 16 bit like your program. In order to solve this problem, i used VISA Write and it would automatically send the signal to the parallel port. Try using VISA and you shouldnt have any problems. I will send you an example VI so you can see how i used it. I also modified your VI using VISA instead of using Out Port.vi. It has an error because part of the file is missing but this should get you started. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask.

  • My HP C5280 printer with Air Port Express cannot be found on my IPad . Any suggestions?

MYIpad  Wi Fi cellular cannot connect to my HP c5280 printer with AirPort Express.

It appears that the HP C5280 is not an AirPrint compatible printer, so I would not expect it to work when you try to print from an iPad.......unless you want to try to install additional software.....like Printopia.....on a Mac on the network to see if that might allow printing.
There is a free trial with Printopia, so if you want to give it a try, you will know if it will work before you buy. More details in the link below.
There are other Apps that perform this type of service as well, but I have not used them. Hopefully, other users will have some other suggestions in that regard.

  • Problems with Parallel Port on Reboot

    Hi,
I use labview to drive my stepper motor connected to the parallel port
on my Win98 machine. The motor takes a step for every clock pulse sent
out on a particular pin on the port.
Although my problem is not directly related to labview, I was hoping to
get a solution. Every time I reboot my computer (at least once a day,
it seems) the computer sends a series of clock pulses to the port,
moving my motor several hundred steps. I cannot tell if it's a regular
series of pulses or just random noise.
Is there a way to disable the lpt port or otherwise prevent spurious
noise being sent out to my motor when rebooting my machine? Or when
    labview is not running?
    Thanks,
    Scot

Windows likes to check for plug-n-play devices when it boots up. You may want to set up a relay/interlock gating system that only allows pulses to reach the motor driver when one digital line is high and another other digital line is low.

  • I can not install my wireless P2015 dn Laser Jet Printer with the MS 7 software.

For three years the P2015 worked "wireless"on my Lenovo T60p with microsoft XP.  It ran through my wireless router and printed fine.
I just updates the software to MS 7 (32 bits, 2007) and the printer will not run off the router.  I hooked the printer up directly by cord, downloaded the printer drivers off the MS 7 software and it worked fine while attached.  The router works fine with MS 7 for the internet and the email on my computer and the two other computers (still MS XP) on the router.
I tried installing the 2015nd Laser Jet using the CD driver it came with originally and I come to a screen "searching for available printers" and there is nothing in the box below to choose from (blank screen).  It goes though a "searching for available printers" routine and finally the message come up "No printers were found".  This same thing occurs when I try downloading from the HP Web site drivers.  I get the same screens and the same results.
What do I need to do?  (I am a beginning level of computer knowledge)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Edronenburg,
Even though the software installer can not find your printer automatically, you can still install the printer if you know the IP address.
If you press and hold the "Go" button on the control panel for several seconds (until the lights begin flashing) the config page will print. On this page you can find the IP address of the printer that has been assigned by the router. During the software install, instead of having the installer automatically search for the printer, choose to manually enter the IP address. This should allow the software install to complete successfully.

  • Printing with parallels program

have 2 questions..i just installed parallels with xp pro and i am trying to printing from a program well in xp. my printer is connected with usb and it shows that it is connected through the virtual machine but nothing is printing. how do i do this.
also when i connected a flash drive again it shows that it is connected through the virtual pc but i can't find it in my computer to open and access the files.
thank you i am new to this so any help would be great.

You might want to post on Parallels' support site for more details, but here's what I can tell you:
Shot down Windows, but don't close Parallels. Once the virtual machine has stopped, go to the Edit menu and choose Virtual Machine. There is an option you check in the USB controller section that says "Connect USB devices automatically". That should help, if not, again try the Parallels support site. Cheers!

  • Production Order not printing with Parallel Sequence ?

    Hi All,
User is unable to print Prod. Orders when Parallel Sequence is used, but Orders using Standard Sequence are printing fine.
Print is done in Update Task, so User is able to release the Order and when he saves the Order, the Order should get printed.
Currently this is not happening. There is no spool generated.
Can anyone please tell me the printer configuration required for this. Or any other configuration which we are missing.
    Thanks,
    Bhuvan

    Dear Bhuvan,
I'm not sure if this is the issue,at a high level, check if the control key assigned to the operations in the
parallel sequence supports for Printing in General(check box set).

  • Printing with Parallels

I have Parallels 4 installed on an iMac intel. Both Snow Leopard and Parallels have the most current software and Tools has been installed on the Parallels virtual system. When I was unable to get the printer in my office seen by using the standard installation method in Windows, I used the Bonjour program by Apple. This found the printer immediately (network printer Brother MFC-8840D) but when I try to print to it, I get multiple copies of paper that have the following printed on it:
    ERROR NAME;
    undefined
    COMMAND;
    -12345X@PJL
    OPERAND STACK;
This prints on page after page until I cancel it.
Any ideas on this would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • New workstation lacking parallel port poses printing challenge

I'm supporting a Netware 4.11 + sp9 small business network, which long ago
had a custom DOS-like database application written to manage rental
activities. The app allows the user to print out lists of things rented,
etc. It has been working very well for years. There are several
workstations, some DOS, some Windows XP, etc., and they all share the rental
database resident in the Netware 4.11 file server.
I have had various networked printers, starting with parallel-port lasers.
More recently I have had a large Canon printer that connects directly via
our Ethernet_802.2 IPX (as well as IP) intranet. In other words, this
printer works both for Windows programs, which use IP, and for our rental
    program, which uses IPX.
    What's the problem, then?
An important Windows 2000 Pro workstation died, and I replaced it with a new
Windows XP Pro workstation. This new Dell computer HAS NO PRINTER PORT. I
have YET to tinker with this, as I am hoping to get this request for help
    posted as soon as possible.
All my workstation computers "CAPTURE" print jobs that the rental program
"thinks" are going to LPT ports. Once these jobs get into various queues, I
have no problem getting them into printed hard copy. The problem NOW is to
fool the DOS-like rental program, which will be running on the new Dell
computer, into seeing some kind of a parallel port that doesn't exist.
I suppose I could launch a major effort into modifying the BIOS of a Dell
computer, but I am hoping there must be a better way!
Can "net use" be of any assistance?
Can Unix "lpt" printing be of any assistance?
It is not likely this rental application can be chanaged. I am not the
    author.
I read another thread regarding an "opposite" predicament. It won't help
me, then, to buy a USB->LPT adapter box, because what's important here is
NOT to actually connect a printer to this workstation computer, but to
supply something (a faux LPT port) that can be captured inside this
    workstation.
    Any ideas most welcome.
    Thank you.
    John B

This is neat. But I think the all-important DOS-like custom application
    rigidly prints only to LPT1.
In the absence of a real LPT1, I need to find a "faux LPT1."
Over the weekend, I'll look at this utility..."printfil."
    Thanks very much!

  • PSC 500 With Parallel Support In Windows 8

I have a neighbor that has to replace an older computer but would like to keep costs down by keeping the working printer/scanner, a PSC 500 with parallel port(no USB).  The new PC she bought with Windows 8 has no parallel port, so I borrowed a Parallel to USB adapter from work.  The adapter driver loaded successfully, but when I plugged in the printer cable and tried to add the new device Windows was unable to detect it.
According to the manual the adapter I have supports IEEE1284-1994.  Would a different adapter possibly work better?  HP claims to support this printer in Windows 8 but tech support on the phone wasn't familiar with the term "parallel port" and reminded me that the printer was well past its support lifetime.
If anybody has a working configuration for this or suggestions about how to get there I would love to know about them.
