HP media center m8457c phenom quad core fails multicore cpu test

During Hardware Diagnostic test the CPU fails the multicore test... The error does not give any info, I believe it tests the speed of the cpu with 1 core and then muti-cores and compares the time. The computer does seems slow lately.. Are there any tests I can run to determine what the problem is??
Thanks

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Why no Quad Core option on T510? How about USB 3?

I've been waiting for the T510 for some time now as my refresh cycle is up.
    However, my hard requirements are:
    - FHD 1080p display (check - but option cost is unreasonable)
    - Quad Core (fail - at least a 7i 720QM)
    - USB 3.0 (fail)
Lenovo - please get your act together and match at least mid class laptop specs of the competition such as the Dell Studio series. I must replace my ThinkPad in the next 3 months but you make it impossible to stick with your brand.

    Yep you're lookign for a W510.

  • New NI CompactRIO calls the question, "¿Quien is mas macho, Intel quad-core Atom or 4-year-old i7?"

Perhaps you remember the Saturday Night Live TV sketch from 1979 where Bill Murray played a game show host who asked the show’s titular question, “¿Quien es mas macho?”
Today, Matt Spexarth, Principal Product Manager for Embedded Systems at National Instruments (NI), called the NI CompactRIO controller introduced this week at NI Week—the model cRIO-9039, which pairs a 1.91GHz, quad-core Intel Atom CPU with a Xilinx Kintex-7 325T FPGA—the highest-performance CompactRIO ever released. That includes the existing cRIO-9082 controller, which pairs a 1.33GHz, dual-core Intel i7 CPU and a Xilinx Spartan-6 LX150 FPGA. So both the processor and the FPGA have been upgraded in the new CompactRIO controller. The NI cRIO-9039 controller es mas macho.
NI Model cRIO-9039 Controller in an 8-slot CompactRIO Chassis
The new NI CompactRIO controller runs security-enhanced NI Linux Real-Time. It has an SDHC card slot for non-volatile storage and can directly operate a local, graphical UI (user interface) as a human-machine interface. Another key performance feature, noted Spexarth, is a bank of DDR3 SDRAM attached directly to the Kintex-7 FPGA to allow the FPGA to directly handle large data sets, to process large FFTs for example.
As with the entire line of NI CompactRIO controllers, you program the cRIO-9039 controller using NI’s LabVIEW graphical development environment with its many add-on modules including LabVIEW FPGA. In addition, the new CompactRIO controller maintain compatibility with the many CompactRIO plug-in I/O hardware modules.

    Whygirl,
it reads as though an internal disk upgrade (and possibly a battery replacement) would suffice for you, and those two together would be far less expensive than a new MacBook Pro. Yes, you could install either a HDD or a SSD in place of its current internal HDD. You could look at the Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000 as an example of a suitable 1 TB HDD; SSDs are more expensive per unit of storage than a HDD, but might be worth the extra cost if your apps are disk-bound. (I put a Samsung 840 PRO into my 13-inch Mid 2010 model, and it’s been working well.) Note that Chrome might be responsible for the extra heat (and the extra heat is responsible for the increased volume from the fans kicking in); Chrome isn’t optimized for use on 64-bit versions of OS X, like 10.8.5.

  • Duo Core Vs Quad Core upgrade question

Looking for some solid answers on what improvements if any that a Quad Core (Q9650 3ghz) CPU would have ove a Duo Core (Q6850  3ghz) in Ppro CS4.Especially when it comes to AVCHD editing. Any thoughts as to this upgrade would be worth it?

Harm is correct, look at the Premiere Pro CS4 Benchmark (PPBM4) results and see the result for those two processors.  While you do get a small incremental inprovement it probably is not with the cost.

I had done some research on upgrading my son's computer's processor from an AMD Athlon X2 7750 processor to an AMD Phenom II quad core processor.  I checked the compatible processors on the HP website and it showed that  the AMD Phenom II quad core processor would be supported.  The specs for the Phenom II I bought are: 95 watt / 2.4 GHz / quad core / hyper transport technology / AM2+ socket / integrated DDR memory controller / HD9750XAJ4BGH.
After installing the processor (with thermal paste) I booted up the computer and the message:  "Uncompatible processor installed, shutting down in a few seconds" showed up.  I tried again and the same thing.  Is this processor NOT compatible with this computer or is something else going on?

Please discuss this under desktop catagory for better suggestions and quicker resolution. thank you

by looking at the specs the laptop is better but if your not a gamer or graphics designer  then you most likly wont notice a difference in the performance at all so with that said a few downsides
the processor is i5 the i7 processor is the better processor the graphics card has half the dedicated memory that the laptop has and the hdd compared to the solid state is not much of a difference unless you wanna move your computer all the time you wont need a solid state drive
but like i said before if your not a gamer or graphics designer on your computer you will not notice the difference most likely

So I have been looking at this processor for a bit, AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor HDZ940XCGIBOX - 3.00GHz, 6MB Cache, 1800MHz (3600 MT/s) FSB, Deneb, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket AM2+, Unlocked Multiplier, Processor with Fan Link=http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4330959
I have the K9A2 Platinum Motherboard. I have updated the Bios to version 1.6. Now I called MSI and Tiger direct and none of them know if this processor will work with my board. Now I did post a previous thread and every one said I should have come here sooner for answers and that is what I am doing. I looked at Cyberpower PC where they are building this spec with the 3.0 ghz Processor and the K9A2. Now I would like to assume that it will work but with the manufacturer and tiger direct not giving the most accurate information I am worried.
I think it will work just fine but I am double checking before I spend the money.
So guys and gals will my motherboard support this new chip? Does any one have the processor running on the MSI K9A2 Platinum? Bios version 1.6?

  • Media Center Guide - Failed to retrieve EpgListings Error

When is Microsoft going to address this?  This is a HUGE PROBLEM for people that use WMC.  It couldnt be a bigger problem as it renders my ENTIRE media setup worthless.  Below is a link to a workaround and a forum with tons of people having
    the same problem.
    http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?p=80288&f=5#p80288
Re-running the TV setup works for a few weeks but then you start getting the same error.  I have 2 TVs in the house that use WMC.  Both have the problem.  I did what this link suggested and it fixed TV1.  I re-ran the setup again on TV2
and it worked, until tonight which is about 2 weeks since the last time I ran it.  This is a temporary workaround NOT a solution!
This is a MICROSOFT PROBLEM and this is EXACTLY why ZERO people take WMC seriously.  Can you imagine if you turned on your TV with dish, directv, comcast, whatever and you had no guide data and you had to jump through all sorts of technical hoops to
get your guide back?  It would be chaos.  WMC "could" be one of the best pieces of software from microsoft but with this sort of thing happening, it will never be anything but a snap-in.
I also find it amazing that there is no help on this MAJOR, SHOWSTOPPING, APPLICATION KILLING, bug/defect/issue within Microsoft's forums.  I have customers that I have recommended and built WMC based HTPCs because of how "great" they are...I
mean were.  This is embarrassing for me, my company, and it should be for Microsoft.  I am completely done using WMC after this.  We have better support from the open source solutions.

Microsoft has discontinued all development for Windows Media Center. There is no
development team as those folks have all moved on to other groups or left
Microsoft. It's difficult to get MSFT to look at problems with EPG downloads. If
    you post your issue at
    http://connect.microsoft.com/site1145 (you may have to
sign in/create an account to see the feedback tab) and it is trending, they
might eventually look at the issue. There was an issue in the UK about 10 days

  • Slow Mac Mini with i7 quad core (current gen.) with most current OSX vs. a PC-Winodws 8.1

My Mac Mini is somewhat slow... don’t get me wrong it’s a fast computer but I got a new work laptop i5 Dual Core Acer laptop with windows 8.1 (I know LOL)
& it is so much faster with media and browsing the web and overall boot up everything.... Now I have started to leave my Mac on all the time (sleep vs. off) and its much better but having multi-webpage’s up and YouTube it still get slow and will ever crash from time to time...
Anyone else has this issue? Know what can be done?
Maybe it’s just because the i5 on the Acer is a newer Haswell design? But the Mac is quad core…. Even my old PC desktop that I never use with an Intel Core 2 quad is so much faster even at 8 years old; boots Windows in 9 sec.
Mybe is just OSX - I'm thinking about install WIndows 8.1 on the Mac Mini.... ( anyone have this option; is it fast?)
    Thanks

Sometimes all Apps stop working or take a long time to come back.. Have to restart.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Networking the mini with a Media center PC

I have my Mini networked with a PC with Windows media center. I have not been apple to see recorded TV from the PC to the mini. Any ideas?
Mac Mini Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   networked wit PC

yes, absolutely, for standard playback, the integrated chipset was good. the problem was XBMC doesn't seem to work well with the nouveau driver, even trying to browse menu's was super choppy, took like 10-20 seconds everytime you press down in a menu for example to see the selection change. i could have used nvidia's binary driver, but i've been using nouveau for so long now, and it actually makes my system feel like it has a quad core which the nvidia didn't at the time, maybe nvidia's drivers have improved since then? but at the same time, i'm glad i got the radeon, the XBMC performance is great, and the HDMI hookup for the tv is convienient as well. Also using the vga input on my TV, i kept having to adjust the screen position because its constant autoscan everytime the resolution changed did not get it right, with the hdmi its lined up perfect without having to mess with it. so i think the 50$ for the card and an hdmi cable was worth it

  • Actiontech router and Windows Media Center on Win8

While waiting for Verizon to solve their network problems and actually get light to the ONT, they left the actiontech router in my house, so I took sometime to get to know it.
It's definitelly something I don't want or need in my network. It's not a bad router if you didn't have a business class product from before (actually it is pretty much the best you can get short of going to hardware firewall routers in the class of Zyxel, Watchguard and some high end, business class, Dells, Ciscos and Netgears).
Well... needless to say, I am running such a router (a Watchguard XTM-26W) and have security subscriptions with them to protect my network. In addition, it offers functionality and discrete access controls otherwise impossible with consumer grade products.
Now, back to the basic subject: I noticed something ominous and wonder if anyone else has noticed it too. I run my TV service through a machine that uses a Ceton 4-HD PCI-E tuner card with a multistream cablecard. It is installed on top of Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit and I use Windows Media Center as my core TV interface (guide and all). The machine is set to go to sleep by itself if no activity (and TV it's the only thing designed and intended to do and the only thong it does) is detected on the tuner for 5 minutes. This works flawlesly  and always did while on Comcast service.
Now, the problem: you put the Actiontech router in the network (regardless of whether it's before or after the firewall gateway) and the machine fails to go to sleep. The router introduces some dort of chatter in the networkk that keeps the HDD active and the computer alive in perpetuity. Did anyone notice anything similar? What is your experience with this?
Obviously, I have no intent to keep the Actiontech router in the network under such conditions. For what I know, it is illegal in fact to put out products that send unsolicited traffic through one's network. Not to mention that it is a security risk. Might Verizon re-consider their insistence on deciding what routers to support and what don't or simply drop all support for all the routers since none is ever really needed? They only have the job to deliver a public IP to my equipment and I should be left alone otherwise (according to FCC). Which they otherwise fail to do by putting a piece of equipment that is theirs in the way and mandating that I use it, since 192.168.x.x is NOT a public IP, according to Internet Council.

    LeoZ wrote:
Actiontec responded to my inquiry. See below.
It turns out it's another Verizon problem...
"Honestly no idea what would cause the chatter on the network to prevent sleep\stand-by to function.
Verizon would have to review the issue and see what in the code programming would cause this."
Stop the chatter. Put your Media Center hardware behind another firewall. Like I said mine is Linux IP-COP, which constanty drops these trash packets from the single STB I have on the MOCA COAX.
All from the Verizon network router. Almost like a broadcast storm!
This is a Motorola STB, My Cisco had two real IP addresses asigned by DHCP, and they did not do this. I turned in all my STB hardware and ordered a single STB, and was sent Motorola when I had been using Cisco.
wan-1 in into my Linux box and lan-1 is out of it. Then all my harware which includes Media Center PCs are gigabit switches, not exposed to this. I guess you could use another router and not a Linux PC. This STB is going back soon.

I initially presumed that the issue was with a single system within a day or two I started to see the IDENTICAL issue on a SECOND system that I have that is also running Windows 7 x64.  They run with completely different types of Motherboards, cpu's (both
are Intel but one is a Core i7-4770k and the other i7-2600k), both have different types of display adapter and displays (Display adapter on system 1 is NVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti the display adapter on System 2 is NVidia GeForce GTS 450).
However given the fact that they BOTH regularly crash 2-3 times per hour I'm suspecting a recent update, both systems are set to download and apply all critical system updates.  One system is playing back from local disk array (Raid), the other is playing
back over the network. Both have failed when payback is of local content the second system has also failed when playback originates from the first system (via network share).
System frequently has other applications tasks running so there could be conflicting tasks that influence, however system 2 is a dedicated system for recording and playback and runs little else besides Windows Media center.
Given the only STRONG commonality between the two systems is:
    Version of Windows
    NVidia Drivers
And given the fact that it's Unlikely that Microsoft is making any tweaks to Media Center on Win7.  I'm STRONGLY suspicious of the update that landed on my machines in Late Oct/Early Nov.  IS ANYONE
ELSE SEEING ISSUES with Windows media center crashing on Windows 7 immediately following an Update from NVidia?  Details of my update are below.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling graphic card or rollback?
I shall suggest you to update the driver from Nvidia's site instead of Windows Update.
You shall also look at the media center error logs to find out possible causes behind this issue.

  • Insignia 55" TV HDMI Media Center DVD Pixelated Picture

Been using a Win 7 64bit Media Center with Media Browser to watch DVD on a Zenith 32" HDTV through a Pioneer SX -821 receiver using HDMI cables from a Radeon 5670 graphics card on a quad core PC.  Great picture but when hooking up a NS-55L260A13 with the same setup the picture is very pixelated, no blacks and poor quality.  The Windows 7 desktop, IE 9, and the Media Browser images are crystal clear and vivid.  Tried loading the Shark007 codex pack with no improvement.  Any ideas?

These days, DVD is considered an inferior source. A larger TV will only magnify the poor attempts to scale the DVD source. One cannot fairly judge the quality of a display based on DVD playback.

  • No FM Radio on Media Center

I have a HP Pavillion m8100y with Media Center.  After updating to Windows 7 32bit I opened media center to check everything out.  Live TV worked fine
but when selecting radio I recieved a drop down that told me I needed to install a radio tunner hardware.  My radio tunner and my TV tuner are on the same card.  What could I do to solve this problem.

C-L, it sounds like a driver problem.  However, there are no Win7 drivers on the HP website.  You may want to check the manufacturer of the cards website for them.

  • HP Media Center m7050y (PX153AV) CTO Desktop PC driver for card reader in windows 7

I have a HP Media Center m7050y (PX153AV) CTO Desktop PC that I've upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I'm trying to get my card readers driver. Is there one specifically for Windows 7, or is there one that worked with previous Windows editions that I should use?

    PMurnane, welcome to the forum.
Since there are no Product Specifications for the computer, I don't know the brand of the card reader.  Here is a driver for the Realtek card reader.  If it doesn't work, let me know the brand of it.
