  • Media speakers

The speakers on my droid x are terrible. If I am in my car and set the phone down speaker up. I can barely hear it.

I traded in my BlackBerry Storm for the Droid X. My Storm was having charging issues about two weeks prior to the Droid X release. Im going to take high-def video (with Droid X) of me running over the Storm with my car while turning the wheel back & forth a few times.
My ONLY complaint so far is the volume is not nearly loud enough.
For such a powerful multimedia device with a beautiful screen, it has a very WIMPY volume when at Max setting. I hope Motorola addresses this in a future firmware upgrade (or some Droid Hackers).
Has anyone else noticed lack of volume? I've seen one other person with Droid & their volume at Max setting was same as mine.

  • Best Policy for Setting up Media Centers

    Hi Everyone,
Well after after re doing my whole media center with ATV and iTunes I would like to setup up a forum for Best Practice on setting things up. I encourage everyone to please add to it if you think of better ways to do things.
The reason for me doing this is for newbies or for longtime users who are always looking for better ways to set things up. I think doing this for all ATV, iTunes, Macbook OS and anything to do with anything is a good idea. Then people won't have to do the trial and error that much which would save TIME and headaches and cursing Apple for why they just don't make things easy.
    Quick Overview of My Setup.
    ATV = 160 Gig with 2.2 setup
    iTunes = 8
Syncing and Streaming to ATV with Windows XP. I have 2TB external drives. Now since I want all my media (music, movies, videos) library to be consolidated into one big Drive I decided to use the Extended Drive feature in XP when formatting the new drive. What this does is setup one Volume (in my case the E:\ Drive) and using to External Drives to do so. This way it shows up as one Drive with 2 TB instead of having to drive letters with 1 TB Each.
Ibook G4 = Streaming Content to ATV
G4 Tower = Streaming Content to ATV
Macbook Pro = Streaming Content to ATV
iPhone 3G = Sync with Macbook Pro
iPod Video = Sync with Windows XP iTunes
2 Shuffles = Sync with Windows XP iTunes
Now since I redid my whole setup, I just want to post it and see your feedback on Everything.
    - I have my library on the External Drive (since I don't want the Internal Drive on my laptop to be tied up so that the OS performs faster) I allocated 90% of storage space for the iTunes folder.
    - I left 10% of the Drive to allow me to download any movies, music, albums, Videos in a stage I like to call "Pre ATV Ready" (Pre ATV Ready means I have not yet converted the files to either AAC (my preference) MP4 or M4A.
    - I use Xilisoft DVD Ripper to convert my DVD into MP4 Format so that I can play it on ATV.
    - I use Xilisoft Video Converter to convert avi, mpeg, wmv, videos into M4A format for the iPhone. Since I sync my iPhone with my Macbook Pro I do one of the following to get it to my iPhone. I either convert it in Windows XP (VMWARE version of Windows on Macbook Pro) then I copy to my OS X iTunes then sync it with iPhone. Option 2 I copy the Windows XP (sync with ATV) file into my Macbook Pro. (Of course you will have to share the Drive in Windows in order for Apple OS to see the drive)
    - Once the files are converted I add to my iTunes library
    - On my Windows XP (sync with ATV) I Sync only my Music, Videos, Pictures.
    - I stream my Movies. (Since 160 is the biggest Hard Drive ATV has I am not going to copy Movies there for obvious size limitations. Why Apple does not allow you to use the USB on the back for hooking up External Hard drives and only utilize for Service from Apple Genius is beyond me but nonetheless that is another animal all together)
    - With ATV 2.1 and up Streaming and Sync on the SAME computer and Same Library is done automatically. You just want to make sure that you have unchecked "show only sync files on the ATV" under the Custom Sync for your Apple TV. This option will allow you to see all your iTunes Media on the Apple TV regardless if you have flagged it to Sync or not. Major change done on this upgrade that has many users scratching their heads as to why they can't Sync and Stream at the same time when they were able to do this before the upgrade.
    - Since my Windows XP (Sync) is connected to my Receiver and also ATV (wireless) that machine is always on with iTunes running. This allows me to watch my movies whenever I want and not have to worry about turning on iTunes before I can enjoy.
    - For browsing through ATV library I use Apple Remote on my iPhone. (You can also do this with your iTouch as well)
    - If you don't have Apple remote there is another alternative to using the stupid white remote that offers no functionality except to scroll on ATV, I suggest one of the Harmoney Remotes by Logitech. After careful setup you can have it control your ATV menus, and link up the Sound with your Receiver or TV. You can even setup activities with one click that will set your media center for what you are trying to do.
For Example, I have one Activity called Media Center. I have configured the Remote to do the following with just one Click of the Button:
1- Dim my living room lights (obviously you have to have dimmers with sensor in order for this to work)
2- Change the Input on the TV in order to display the ATV
3- Linked the ATV with Harmoney remote so that I get all the functions that the with remote does
    4- Turn on my Receiver
5- Change input on Receiver to AUX in order to listen to the ATV
6- Mute the TV sound so that only sound comes from the Home Media Speakers
7- Turn on my AC with Climate Control.
You just want to make sure that the remote sensor points to the Device in order for it to work properly.
This way you don't have to use 20 remotes in order to duplicate this whole process. I have the Harmoney One which I paid 249 for. It has LCD Touch Screen and built in button lights (like the Macbook Pro) that lights up based on motion Sensor so you can see all the buttons in the dark
Well in a nut shell that is what I am doing. Please feel free to add to this any comments that you have or suggestions that you may have

I updated the subject since I didn't notice much Traffic to the forum

  • External speakers not working with iMac and Lion

I have a dual core imac with Lion and external speakers I just bought from Apple. I cannot get them to work with itunes or anything else on the imac. Can anyone tell me what to do? They work well with an ipod touch, but not the iMac.

Hmmm. I plugged the speakers into the headphone jack. they are  the Audyssey Lower East Side Media Speakers. When I hoty option on the menu bar, headphones are checked as output. When I go to system preferences and check output, all it says is "headphone port." Still no change.

  • External speakers quite working with my Imac

I just got new logitec speakers for my imac. I plugged them in, everything worked perfectly. That night i put my computer to sleep and they did not work in the morning. I am mystified. I tested the speakers on my TV, speakers are fine. any suggestions?

  • Mini-toslink cable for Lower East Side speakers?

    Hey,
I have my iMac teamed up with a pair of Audyssey Lower East Side media speakers and I recently bought this mini-toslink cable from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003UU7XQQ/ref=pe_385721_37038051_pe_217191_31005151_ M3T1_dp_1).
The problem I am having is that the toslink connection into the rear of the LES's seems exceptionally lose and I have to fiddle with it to get it in a position where the sound stays solid without cracking up or disapears altogether.
When the connection is stable they sound amazing but I didn't expect a standardised connection type to be so lose!
Can anyone give any advise? The guys at Audyssey are saying that it is "common" for different optical cables to fit differently which to me sounds a bit odd?
Is anyone using a mini-toslink cable with these speakers that fits snuggly into the speaker? If so I would love to hear which one so that I don't end up having to buy a multitude of them to find one
    Many thanks in advance!

An optical connector if fitted correctly should never be loose. Ask to test other cables in a shop that sells them, if you get a good fit buy it, if they are all loose, take the speakers back and get a refund.

  • External Speaker Static

I recently bought a Macbook. This is the first time I've used a Mac and I am somewhat unimpressed thus far.
My Macbook makes a horrible sound every time I insert & eject a CD. I wonder if it's normal? It sounds like a normal sound I guess, but it is so loud it makes me wonder...
Also, last night while I was watching South Park online, the fan randomly turned on and started getting louder and louder and louder until it was terribly distracting/annoying. Then it slowly went away, and came back again a couple minutes later. What's that all about?
And lastly, it has a huge issue when connected to external speakers or headphones. The speakers in the Macbook work fine, but when I've tried plugging-in my ipod headphones and two different sets of speakers they all have had the same issue. There is a loud static sound in the speakers at the beginning and end of every song, and it does the same thing when I pause or unpause a song. The same set of headphones and both sets of speakers work fine with my PC. When I tried watching South Park online, the static sound remained consistent until I finally just turned it off and listened to it via the Macbook speakers. Sigh...
I'm taking it to the Genius Bar this weekend, and I hope to be impressed by the service or I'll probably just return it and revert back to Windows Vista.
In the meantime, does anyone on here have any ideas of what might be wrong?

I've tried plugging-in my ipod headphones and two different sets of speakers they all have had the same issue
Use speakers that have a build in amplifier, only one port for audio out. Don't place them to close.
Use the mac to adjust volume, the volume level on the speakers to 3/4.
Try if the headphone port gives better results, most multi media speakers come with a mini jack.
Turn off the automatic mixing fade in/out between songs in iTunes.
My Macbook makes a horrible sound every time I insert & eject a CD. I wonder if it's normal?
No, I have the same issue, as long as it ejects the CD it's durable.
South Park online, the fan randomly turned on and started getting louder and louder and louder
Flash reverts to software decoding for full screen video when no video hardware card is detected.
Your Mac has faster processors that can display full screen video without additional hardware.
flash is very loud, on many laptops, it is being worked upon by the vendor. Needs some time.
    Darn Hippies.

  • Airport utility cannot find Extreme nor Express, but internet is working?

I have an airport extreme base station and and airport express (as a wireless extender and media speakers)
When my iMac wakes up from sleep, airport utility cannot find any devices.
    - internet works as usual
    - airplay doesn't work (via my ipod or my iphone)
    - apple TV 2 can't find the itunes library.
    - in system preferences -> network - my network seems to be all ok and when I turn off airport and on again, both devices suddenly appear in the airport utility. But when the iMac goes to sleep, same problem happens.
    - I have made ensured that my network is the preferred network but still the problem persists.
as the internet is working, there doesn't appear to be a problem. However, when airplay and apple TV are not working properly, this is a problem!
    Grateful for any help. Thanks.

My Airport utility cannot find my base station either, and I can't print. But I can access the Internet!
The base station just "vanished" one day after working perfectly for about two months. I first discovered this when I was unable to print - I began troubleshooting by entering the utility, only to discover the base station was not listed.
I finally deleted my networking settings in Vista, and then did a factory reset on the Aiport Extreme. I then set everything up from scratch again to successful resolution.
Then again one day a short time after that, it vanished again! In frustration, I disconnected Airport and put it away. I tried setting up a new Dlink I purchased to replace the Airport, but the Dlink didn't work either!!! Dlink tech support couldn't fix the problem and suggested I get my money back. I then, as a last ditch attempt, reconnected the Airport. It automatically found the base station without me doing anything besides just hooking it back up!
It worked for about two weeks and now it vanished again! The utility upgrade released the other day has not fixed this problem. I guess I'll delete networking connections again in Vista, and do a factory reset to Airport again.
I guess Airport and Vista just don't play well together.

  • Sound Card for Mac Pro?

I've come over to a Mac Pro after PC's for many years. My PC had a sound card that accepted the 1/8 mini plugs of my Klipsch 4.1 Pro Media speakers. I would plug into the front and rear outputs on the sound card. The Mac Pro only has 1 analog output.
Is the only answer, to get a Y adapter, to connect the front and rear speakers, or do I need to get a sound card?

I connect my Klipsch Pro Media 5.1s through a Creative Digital Decoder (DDTS-100) which is connected through optical cable to my Mac Pro.
Crystal clear 5.1 THX certified sound.

  • Advise for a new Mac user

Well, I've taken the plunge & decided to buy a new iMac 17" for our study at home. I'm a PC user at work but this will be our first home computer (I know, I'm living in the stone ages).
We want to use it for the normal things; some photo editing, Emailing, internet use, kids homework, storing/playing/streaming music etc.
I'm looking for some advise on a few things:
Do I need to buy any virus protection etc software for a Mac (I've been told not)? If yes, any recommendations?
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced all in one printer/scanner (I'm expecting very light use - I've heard Epsom are good)?
Are the built in speakers on the iMac any good or should I buy some separate multi-media speakers? I was thinking of either JBL Creatures or Creative iTrigue 3400 - Any thoughts/suggestions?
Any recommendations for a wireless router (I've heard Netgear are good)?
    Anything else you'd recommend?
Thanks & sorry for the length of the message.

Fine choice of first home computer, sir! Mine was a ZX Spectrum 128+. It came with a tape recorder and everything!
    > We want to use it for the normal things; some photo

It will be brilliant for all that - and more!
    > Do I need to buy any virus protection etc software

    recommendations?
Not really required, but all that might cvhange as Apples market share grows. There was a low-level OS X worm virus in the news recently - an occurence so rare that it actually warranted a news story! However, for your peace of mind, you might want to think about creating a general day to day user account that dos not have admin rights. No need to log in and out when setting up software or making system wide changes - it just asks for the admins user name and password.
    > Any recommendations for a reasonably priced all in
one printer/scanner (I'm expecting very light use -
    I've heard Epsom are good)?
It depends on software compatibility - some manufacturers havent yet sorted out their Universal Binary drivers and software whereas others already have their drivers included in OS X. I've got a Lexmark X5150 all-in-one - everything worked on the Mac mini I had, yet on my new Intel iMac it runs slower under Rosetta and I can't change some settings like output quality. Still waiting on Lexmark to get back to me about updated drivers.
    > Are the built in speakers on the iMac any good or
should I buy some separate multi-media speakers? I
was thinking of either JBL Creatures or Creative
    iTrigue 3400 - Any thoughts/suggestions?
The inbuilt speakers are alright, but a bit lacking in power and bass. I've got a nice pair of colour matched iTrigue 3400s and they are pretty good speakers for the price - quite bright, punchy and bassy. Good for music, DVDs and games. The wired control unit is great too - has a headphone socket and a line-in you can plug your iPod or other audio device into.
    > Any recommendations for a wireless router (I've heard
    Netgear are good)?
I'm running a Belkin but it doesn't seem too brilliant - though I've noticed the connection with the iMac is worse than with the Mac mini so it might not be the routers fault.
By the way, commenting on that other posters points - I'm forced to go wireless as there is not a network point or even a phone line up to my bedroom/study. I'd prefer to be wired but my housemate has the broadband connection going into his office.
    > Anything else you'd recommend?
Check out Boot Camp if you want a bit of Windows action on your iMac, and go listen to the #1 podcasts in the world by Ricky Gervais and his mates - they are hilarious!

  • Ms-645 ultra (MS-6547) CPU:RAM

    Hullo,
I Just Finished building my new system. I am in the process of clocking it out. I used Fuzzy Logic 4 to find out at what speed my system crashes at. Fuzzy crashes any where between 139MHz & 143MHz system clock with CPU core voltage only slightly juiced to 1.5 volts.
This is probably not a good program for the actual overclocking from what I've read, but does serve as a good burn in utility. So I've decided on a 133MHz system clock in bios. Don't want to get too greedy right now as I am using stock H/S and fan. Next did a 5X burn in with Sandra and couldn't crash my system 49c idle 62c load. I must say this is a very nice mobo, extremely stable.
What I am having problems deciding on are my memory timings. This is my first MSI mother board and I'm not really familiar with the normal fast ultra and turbo settings.
Initially I set at the normal selection with CPU - RAM ratio at highest setting of 4:5 and CPU-Z gives me these memory numbers 166MHz & 2.5-3-3-7-11.
Next I tried the ultra setting and the highest ratio of 1:1 any other ratio causes system to lock up. CPU-z gives me these memory numbers 133MHz 2.5-2-2-6-9
It dosen't Appear that the Ultra timing mode offers any advantages over default memory timing settings. Are these words "Ultra" and "turbo" just marketing schemes meant to entice the common PC user, or are there some additional speed settings that go along with with the ultra and turbo modes that I am unaware of. Also after setting system clock to 133MHz My PCI & AGP are left untouched at 33MHz & 66MHz. I was expecting higher speeds. How are these independant? Where can I adjust these to clock along with the system clock. With those AGP & PCI numbers it behaves like a true 533MHz FSB system. I'm a little baffled with this new system. Any explainations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not displeased, only a little puzzled. in fact i was counting on having to reduce the core & memory speed of my card just a little bit. to allow for a higher oc. Is this a 400/533 mobo manual says 400. Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if I put an 800 FSB cpu in here. bios system clock goes to 200. I happen to have one. this mat be interesting.

  • 645-Ultra Timing Settings (MS-6547)

I just finished building my new PC. I've been exploring and found in the bios timing setting modes. My mode is currently set to normal. When trying to advance the settings to fast, turbo, or ultra the PC won't  boot or post until I clear CMOS.
Any idea why the faster settings won't work?
Also I have installed Fuzzy Logic 4. When trying to manipulate any of the overclock
settings, the system locks and I can't reboot until I unplug the system. Any idea why Fuzzy Logic freezes the sysem?
The system is stable and runs good wiyh no other known issues.

  • 645 ultra - Dual Channel Memory?

Just Finished Building my system about 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if the MS-6547 is capable of running memory in dual channel mode?

Following great advice from initial poster to this thread  , I've finally managed an overclock my 645 ULTRA, it's only taken me a year
Full system virus scan, and clean out.
    Clean Boot,
Re-Set Ram CPU ratio down to give 266Mhz.
    Turbo Ram Timing.
    Ram Latency CL2
    Ras/Cas Normal.
Al of which I was backing off, but rightn now seems to hold up
I was able to wind the FSB up to 118Mhz, clocking me at a mear 2.85 Gig  (which for some reason is higher than 118*24)
the good thing here, is when the system did crash at 120, the bias did not re-set! which was happening in the past.
At 120 I got quite a lot of graphical artifacting, but my gcard was running hot since the air temp here is at about 25/26C with sumer approaching (don't help does it!)
Anyway, I'll be ticking off a few more tweaks tonight.
I did notice that this did NOT improve Aquamark, but added 1000 points to 3dMark2001, from taking it from 11500 to 12500. Benchmarks moving more from CPU/GPU to GPU only dependant. Codecreatures is a good bench also

  • Playing back Recorded TV Programs using Windows Media Player and only hearing Sound from Front Speakers

    Hi All,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1 with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
When I click on one of my Recorded TV Programs to watch and hear, I can only hear the Sound coming from the Front Speakers.
When I right-click on the Program and open it up in Real Player Cloud. I can indeed watch the program and hear Clear Sound coming from all 5 Speakers plus the Subwoofer.
What setting do I change to use Windows Media Player and have sound coming from all 5 Speakers and the Subwoofer?
    Thank you!

    This in Internet Explorer 11.0
The Files in question were Recorded by Beyond TV to my Local Hard Drive.
When I open the recording in Real Player Cloud, installed on my computer, not streaming over the Internet, I hear it correctly played.
When I use Windows Media Player, nothing can be heard from the Rear Speakers.
Speakers and Hardware are working fine.
