HP MediaSmart DVD player: sp49489 doesn't seem to fix blu-ray player "update loop"

Good day,
I found a few threads were folks were having issues playing back blu-ray discs (BD) with HP MediaSmart (some going so far as saying things like "... not so smart", etc). I applied update sp49489 and one BD worked fine, and now I am attempting to play a more recent BD (ie, "Stolen") and I get stuck in a "update loop" where the HP MediaSmart DVD player constantly asks to check for updates, whether I hit "yes" or "no".
Any ideas how to fix this?

The first link leds to a cyberlink page where i can't continue because theres nothing to click on.
mediasmart is up to date with me, but the cyberlink BR advsor means my laptop doesn't habe a BR Player neither a software.
i'm using Win7_64. Any suggests?

  • Audio playback problem with HP mediasmart DVD player

Hi I have just set up my computer and linked it to my tv with a HDMI lead, I have been able to toggle between my pc speakers and my tv speakers on programmes such as windows media player and other HP mediasmart programmes but when I use HP mediasmart DVD player - a DVD will allow me to change from pc speakers to HDMI but I cannot change to HDMI (TV) sound when playing a Blu-Ray disk. I have tried changing my defult to HDMI and its just not working when playing BLU-RAY disks. anyone got any ideas? i have all the latest updates (running windows 7)

I have a ThinkPad T61p which I got one year ago. About one month ago the following problem suddenly appeared: When I want to play a DVD with WinDVD, I get the message "no valid Drive/Disc Found". When I eject and then start the DVD again, it takes about 4 minutes to start the DVD. Everything is very slow, the movie is croppy and I can often hear the laser head moving back and forward. I don't have any problems with other media like CDs or self printed DVDs with no region code and copy protection. I also have no problems with another DVD drive of the same kind (I have a DVD/CD-ROM drive). I tried to solve the problem with the troubleshooter (I have Windows XP), but nothing helped. My settings seem to be all right. Could anyone help me with this problem?

  • New DVD Player Update

I just downloaded the most recent DVD Player update, and now my DVD player doesn't display video. It does play the audio files, and if I click to the DVD menu on the controller, and guess-click to a chapter, it will play the audio, but I only see a black screen. Anyone else having this problem? Know of a fix?

if I put in a dvd it kind of opens up in dvd player 4.6.5 but the whole system freezes - even alt-apple-escape takes ages to respond to force quit out of dvd player
I also have 10.4.4 on a dual 450 g4 which I updated the same day and there isnt a problem
Im amazed that a solution to this is not easier to find on apples site - its obvious that it is happening to several people

  • Encoded video doesn't work on Toshiba Blu-ray disc player

I have a problem that I am trying to encode a sequence of frames in a video container , but the encoded video doesn't work on toshiba blu ray disc player .. I am using the following ffmpeg command to encode frames and convert them to a video:
    ffmpeg -i "C:\ManVsWigan\Frames\%d.png" -vcodec libx264 "C:\ManVsWigan\encoded.mp4"
I tried multiple video codecs but no luck yet
    "-vcodec mpeg4"
    "-vcodec mpeg2video"
If you have any idea please help me

The BluRay player leverages parts of Windows DirectShow but won't serve very well as a general player since Windows will load other players for the majority of media formats.
You can get away with a limited amount of tampering of the BluRay's players tolerance of media files until you violate some far away written DRM safeguard and kneecapping the BluRay player from doing anything.
If you're trying to validate your ffmpeg composed tests of your content as part of the editing process, you're better to avoid relying on the BluRay player that is purposed for narrow replay of licensed content and equipped with oversensitive safeguards susceptible to malfunctioning from the invasions of video pirates like you defined by studio executives.
You and I understand you're not a pirate but chances aren't being taken.
Whether you just dowloaded FFmep in the macho exe format or part of the millions of other packages that include it, you can tune your players to codecs pretty easily with the KLite Codec Manager or the Registry.
Chances are you already know about KLite since editing video on Windows eventually requires it and its hard to walk down the street without eventually kiceking over a copy. But just in case you've been living on a Martian cave with your hands over your ears, snag a mirrored copy from: http://codecguide.com /download_kl.htm
I like KLite more than others because it is fairly unobtrusive and avoids stomping over other media tools the way Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas enslaves Windows and can neuter BluRay codecs without always adequately replacing them. I can cite threads on the matter but just googling for anything such as "Adobe Premier killed my BluRay" or "Sony Vegas ruined Windows" will usually return desperate strings of posts long enough to wrap around Jupiters equator.
For general maintenance of Windows poor codec management, grab this noninstalling executable http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html to determine if Windows believes it has the same codecs you thought it did and you'll likely be surprised by the fine tuning you'll need to perform.

  • MediaSmart DVD player will no longer work!! help

Okay so now when I try to open the DVD mediasmart section I get a message that pops up and says "The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."  How do I reinstall the program? And is this really the solution to this problem.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
This assumes you are running Windows 7.
Try the following process to see if you can get MediaSmart DVD working - we can tackle the other MediaSmart software later.
Download and install Revo Uninstaller from the link below.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php
Run revo and use it to uninstall your HP MediaSmart DVD Software.  Right click on the icon of the program you wish to remove and select Uninstall.  During the process you may be asked to delete registry entries, just select all and then click delete.  Do the same for any left over files and folders.  Once the uninstall has completed, reboot the PC.
Next, download the latest installer for MediaSmart DVD on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50935.exe
If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip.  Right click the installer you download, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok.  Open the newly extracted folder, open src and scroll down until you see the setup application ( 6th from the bottom with a size of 310Kb ).  Right click this Setup Application and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and see if you can now play your Blu ray discs.

  • Is it possible to make a high res. DVD slide show that can be viewed with blue ray player/HDTV that retains high res. quality?

I have used PE 12 to make slide shows on DVD but the quality is just not there when I view on HDTV.  Is there a way to accomplish this using Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 12?

    salrgrl
Assuming that you are going to use the Elements Organizer Slideshow 12/12.1 as the sole builder of the slideshow and Premiere Elements 12/12.1 just for the burn to AVCHD on DVD disc....
    1. Before you start, open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to its Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In Change Settings, set the project preset to NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR [email protected]. OK out of there.
In the New Project dialog that appears, rename the project and put a check mark "Force Selected Project Settings on This Project". OK out of there.
Minimize the program and do your Elements Organizer slideshow work.
    1. Build your slideshow in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor with photos with a 16:9 frame aspect ratio. If you can get away with pixel dimensions of over 1920 x 1080 and avoiding pre-cropping/resizing, then just make sure the frame aspect ratio = 16:9. If your photos are 3:2 or 4:3, then cropping to 16:9 before they get into the Elements Organizer. The question is whether the transfer from Elements Organizer to Premiere Elements is going to be influenced by photos oversized for the 1920 x 1080 16:9 project. If a problem, then we may have to back track and crop resize to 16:9 1920 x 1080. The photos are going to end up at 1920 x 1080 away in encoding.
Please go with the Crop to Fit Slide as shown in the screenshot - will not compromise the goal here.
    2. When you are ready to send the Elements Organizer Slideshow to Premiere Elements for the burn to AVCHD on DVD....
    a. Save the slideshow as a Slide Show Project to the Elements Organizer.
    b. In the Elements Organizer, select the slideshow's Slide Show Project thumbnail, and then Share Menu/Burn Video DVD/Blu-Ray.
    c. When you do that, your slideshow will be in a Movie Menu/Publish+Share areas of the program which has the pre-set manually wanted project preset.
The workflow choice was made since your intention was to use Premiere Elements just for the burn to AVCHD on DVD disc.
    3. Publish+Share
    Disc
    AVCHD
    with Presets =
The presets is going to be the one that will give you the best results.
    First, look at Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080pNTSC Dolby....the one with the 23.976 progressive frame rate.
    Second, look at Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080iNTSC Dolby...the one with the 29.97 interlaced frame rate.
The first choice in this particular case was made to be consistent with the Premiere Elements project preset
that you set manually at the beginning to
    NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR [email protected].
And, that was done since there are many reports that this project preset results in sharper images in the burn to products when
all photos are involved in the slideshow.
Please review and consider, and then we can decide if the above looks like it going to meet your expectations for viewing.
    Thanks for considering the above.

  • Compressor doesn't convert the entire Blu-Ray file.

I have FCP 7. Tell me if I've done something wrong here.
    1. I exported as a quicktime file a wedding video that is about 3 hours long.
    2. The file is all their from beginning to end. I then drop it into compressor and set it up to export the 120 gig file to fit onto a Blu-Ray.
    3. Compressor exports the file but only up to the 2.5 hour mark instead of the entire 3 hours.
Is this a glitch or a setting that I'm not familiar with.
I burned the file in toast.
    Thanks.

I checked the Bit Rate which only allows 147 minutes. I lowered the bit rate and will see if this solves the time issue.

  • Blu-ray DVD no longer recognized by HP MediaSmart or Windows Media Player

I have the HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer. This computer includes a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. I bought this computer in 2010, and all these years I have successfully played CDs and DVDs on the computer. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
A few days ago, I rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD from my public library. The "Divergent" regular DVD was included in the package.
I put the Blu-ray into the CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. The HP MediaSmart software recognized the Blu-ray, but the software got into an endless "update" loop and did not play the Blu-ray. Microsoft's Windows Media Player also recognized the Blu-ray, but did not play the Blu-ray.
One solution I heard about was to plug an HDMI patch cord into the back of my computer box, with the other end of the HDMI patch cord not plugged into anything. Supposedly, the HP MediaSmart software would play a Blu-ray if the software sensed an HDMI cord. Unfortunately, that did not work.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    Supposedly, this Codec Pack would allow the Windows Media Player to play the Blu-ray. The Codec Pack included the Classic Media Player.
I tried to play the Blu-ray on the current Windows Media Player and the Classic version, with the new codecs installed. But nothing worked. I then used System Restore to get rid of the  Media Player Codec Pack. I found out that, in addition to the codecs, I was supposed to use the Slysoft AnyDVD HD software. However, I did not make any more attempts to use the codecs, and I did not download the Slysoft software.
Now, here's where things get weird. Now, the HP MediaSmart software and the current Windows Media Player do not even *recognize* the Blu-ray DVD. They play the regular "Divergent" DVD very well. But they do not even *see* the Blu-ray DVD.
I uninstalled the BDDVDRW CH20L driver, version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255). I restarted the computer, and a new driver was installed. The new driver's version is 6.1.7601.17514. But the Blu-ray DVD is *still* not being recognized.
Now, I'm hearing that a Blu-ray lens cleaner may be required.
So, what's going on here? Did the codecs in the Codec Pack damage the Blu-ray lens? Please advise.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, BH. Thanks for your response.
sp60287.exe seems to be for Windows 8. I have Windows 7.
But even if I got a PowerDVD version for Windows 7, I still have the issue of the Blu-ray disc not even being detected. The Blu-ray disc is in the drive, but the software (HP MediaSmart, Windows Media Player) says that there is no disc in the drive. This "no detection" issue began after I installed the codecs in the Codec Pack and tried to make Windows Media Player work with the codecs. Is there an issue with the Blu-ray lens? Or is there an issue with the Blu-ray disc itself?
I notice that the regular "Divergent" DVD has no fingerprints on it, even after I touch it. But the Blu-ray DVD has lots of fingerprints. Does the Blu-ray have some kind of weird surface? Is there some problem with the Blu-ray's surface that is causing the Blu-ray to not even be detected?
    Thanks.

  • MediaSmart DVD and Blu Rays

Hi.  I know this question has been asked before (because I've read it in a bunch of other posts) but I'm still having a problem.
My Blu Ray player was working just fine (I just watched UP about a month ago) until I bought the new Harry Potter movie.  When I put it in the player, everything went to hell.  It says "content is protected" and something about not being able to play in this display type.  And now my other Blu Rays won't play either
So - I've already gone through the basics....I've used Revo Uninstaller to completely remove the old version of MediaSmart DVD.  I've downloaded several different versions of MediaSmart and installed them (while being sure to restart a hundred times in between installations and making sure I've completely removed the old ones)  I've turned off Norton 360 and Windows Firewall while installing them.  And still none of my Blu Rays will play.
Please please help me.  I have a HP Pavillion DV7 3065DX running Windows 7.  I don't do anything too fancy on the computer except play on the internet and use Itunes (and watch movies....well....used to)  If you can fix this, I will name my second child after you....

That sucks, but at least your itunes are back. I don't have anything else, sorry. Except Nuke and Pave.
Do a system restore and use David's method to install the latest Media Smart.
After that it should work, start installing your programs in one at a time to see what is interfering with the Blu-ray player.
You could also try installing a trial version of Cyberlinks Power DVD 11 before doing a system restore, but unfortunately that's not free.
Personally I have had problems with Media Smart too, and I do have Power DVD 8. I will eventually update to Power 11.
The frustrating thing about this is that my Media Smart plays Harry Potter, something is blocking the playback of Blu-ray's and it's like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.
The people who manufacture the format do there very best to put all sorts of copy protection protocols on the disc's. I found it gets to the point where the things won't even play. Finding what is interfering is a big challenge.
The other thing that would probably work too is running SlySoft's Any DVD HD, that removes all the copy protection stuff, and that's not free either, but it does work.
     http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvdhd.html
It's not HP really. Others like Sony, Acer, Toshiba etc are all in the same boat.
Check this thread out, it doesn't look good for lessien either.
     http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/DV7-3165dx-will-not-play-blu-ray/m-p/698379#...
His drive letters are all screwed up, but when I duplicated his situation, my player still worked. Windows doesn't even see the Blu-ray drive at all in his case.
     +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pending on an answer I am waiting for there may be a newer driver direct from AMD that may work, it's dated 2011, where as the one from HP is from 2009.
There is a good chance that this will solve your problem, but I want to be sure that it will work.

  • Itunes/DVD Player/Airport?

I have a macbook pro hooked to an airport express with remote speakers, and they work fine with itunes when playing music... but how can I use the same speakers when watching a dvd? Itunes doesn't seem to play dvd's and dvd player doesn't seem to offer that option...
    So how?

And VLC can play over the remote speakers? I use VLC
on my windows boxes, but haven't on this mac before.
Thought the airport remote speakers might be limited
    to Itunes only.
Nope, VLC can't do that; and you're right, using speakers with an AirPort Express is limited to streaming from iTunes. That's where Airfoil comes in. Airfoil eliminates the iTunes-streaming-only limitation, and allows you to stream audio from just about any app to the AirPort Express-connected speakers.
So in your case, you'd open Airfoil, and choose VLC to stream. Then you use VLC to play your DVD. After adjusting VLC for the delay, as Matthew Whiting reminded us (thankfully, since I totally forgot), you're good to go. DVD streamed to your speakers.
And hey, thanks for using the "helpful" stars! I'm sure Matthew would agree that it's appreciated.

  • KDL-40EX40B TV with builit-in Blu-Ray DVD player

All of a sudden the integrated blu-ray DVD player has quit working.  When I insert a DVD, nothing happens.  I've tried several DVDs and it doesn't seem to recognize the presence of any DVD.  I tried pulling the plug and then putting it back in.  I also tried to reset the settings for Video on the XMB, but for some reason I couldn't access the settings.  What should I do?

I am having the exact same issues.  When I try to access the Blu-ray menu it simple hangs at Loading disc.  There are multiple topics/users with this issue with little responses from SONY.  Please advise.

  • DVD Player Zoom Problem...

DVD Player has the ability to remember zoom settings on previously inserted DVD's. However I have found that the only way that this works is if you leave zoom checked and running all the time. This is fine. However, what I have also figured out is that if for example you insert a disk that needs to be zoomed and then follow that with one that doesn't ( and has never been inserted before), the default behavior is zoomed.
Why I am posting is to find out if anyone else has noticed this and been bothered by it. If so please send feedback to apple to get this added to the next DVD Player update.
The expected behavior for me would be defaulting to unzoomed, or having a choice as to where to set the default by possibly setting it without a dvd inserted.
    Thanks,
    Larry

This has already been fixed for the next version by resetting back to the normalized state when the disc is ejected.

  • Need to install DVD Player

I have a 733 Quicksilver G4 desktop running OS X 10.3.9. My Mac shipped with a CD drive. I recently replaced it with a DVD drive. Very nice, except I don't have DVD Player and can't watch DVD movies.
I have my OS X installation disk, but I can't find any way to install DVD player. I can't find anywhere to download it, only updates. I can't even find anywhere to purchase it. This seems a basic part of the OS, how can I get it!?
I have tried many DVD players available for download. They all are terrible.
I tried burning DVD Player from my Powerbook to a CD, but my desktop computer puts up some nonsensical splash screen when I try to run the copy, like "DVD Player is a part of OS X" and then it won't launch. I even tried changing the name, but it still knew what it was.
Help! How can I get DVD Player on my Mac!
    733 Quicksilver G4 Powermac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks! Pacifist is quite a nice little app. I was able to succesfully extract DVD Player 3.1.1, but it won't launch. It bounces once in my dock and then quits.
And just you helpful people know, I found a handy little knoweldge base article titled DVD PLAYER IS NOT INSTALLED IN MY COMPUTER. http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n151943
It lists some specs that you must have on your computer, and suggests that if you don't have them, that is why you don't have DVD player. Only problem, my computer meets the requirements, and no solution is provided.
I have been all up and down software downloads at apple and can't find anyway to update DVD Player 3.1.1 without going to Tiger. I am at 10.3.9. I even redownloaded several of the incremental updates like 10.3.5, 10.3.8, 10.3.9 and nosed around in them with Pacifist. The text said they contained DVD Player updates, but not so. There were folders in there called DVD Framework, but no DVD Player pacakges.
Any thoughts on how to get DVD Player 3.1.1 working on my Mac? Any help appreciated.
