HP Mini 110 System Recovery Help

I was uninstalling programs put on my hp mini 110 (Windows XP).  I deleted the Roxio back up software by accident.  Now when I start the computer I get a screen stating windows did not start properly and im given the options of start in Safe Mode, Safe mode for Networking, Safe Mode for Bios, Start from Last Known  or Start Normally.  If I start in any of the Safe Modes I get a string of information and then nothing.  If I start in the last know I get a flicker on the screen and then back to the original screen and if I start normally it seems like XP is opening and then the screen goes black.  I can't do anything else from there.  I understand I most likely deleted important software.  I purchased the HP System Recovery disk (no usb available) and I have an external disk drive hooked up but the computer does not start the cd.  Any help would be great.  I tried to contact HP and since my netbook is out of warranty I have to pay $59.  They won't even help me understand how to use the disks I just purchased from them.

Hi Rosen23185,
You will have to change the Boot Order and make the CD/DVD Drive as the first boot device in the same. Please find the instructions in the following document.
Configuring the Boot Order in the System BIOS: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00364979&lang=en&lc=en&product=406...
Once the first boot device is CD/DVD Drive, please insert the Recovery CD in the Drive and Restart your Notebook. Upon the next Restart, the Notebook should start booting from the CD/DVD Drive.
Please let me know the results so that I can try helping you further. Thank you.

I HAVE AN HP MINI 110- 3100.  I'VE REPLACED THE FAILED HARD DRIVE WITH AN HP-SUPPLIED ITEM.  THE HARDWARE TESTS ALL PASS.  I'VE INSERTED INTO AN EXTERNAL DRIVE THE RECOVERY DISC I MADE WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE MACHINE, AND THE DISPLAY SHOWS WINDOWS LOADING.  HOWEVER,  IT THEN MOVES TO 'HP RECOVERY MANAGER',  WHICH GIVES ME ONLY 1 OPTION:  'RUN COMPUTER CHECKUP'.   WHEN SELECTED,  THIS IS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER MONO OPTION,  'OPEN A COMMAND PROMPT'.  WHEN I SELECT THIS, I  GET ' Administrator: x:\Windows\system32\Cmd.exe'   FOLLOWED BY  'x:\Windows\RM>'  AND A FLASHING CURSOR SEEKING MY  (I ASSUME MS-DOS)  INPUT.  I'M AT A LOSS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SUPPOSED  TO DO -  I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING HELPFUL ON THE HP OR WINDOWS WEBSITES.  ANY ADVICE WILL BE HUGELY APPRECIATED.

    Hi:
You won't be able to use the operating system for more than 30 days without a product key. It will just shut down after that and lock you out until you provide a key.
Your only option would be to keep reinstalling Windows every 30 days...
That is why I wrote you need to be able to read the product key.
I agree the instructions we a little bit hard to understand, but I was able to make an installation flash drive that allows me to choose several variations of W7 32 bit to install -- including Starter. I was able to find the ei.cfg file.
Go to your device manager. Are there any devices labeled with little yellow ! marks?
If so, please click on each one of them and post the hardware ID's.
If you don't know how to do that, please read the info at the link below:

  • HP Mini 110-3000 Recovery Disk

Anybody having a HP Mini 110-3000 portable computer? I'm trying to create a Recovery Disk on a USB Key, the process is successfull but when unplugging the key and plus again, nothing on the disk and ask me to format the key. Retried a couple of time and really need a restore key. HP is selling the restore key too much expansive and it's very cheap not to provide a restore CD or key with a computer we buy. HP provide a process to create a free Recovery Disk but no free alternative if it's not working.

My Notebook still have all original hardware and the Recovery Manage Create Media is completing all the process. Right after, I can see the files on disk. When I reboot or simply unplug the USB key and plug it back, Windows ask me to format it and cannot see the files on it. Here's screenchots of the process.

  • Windows 7 System recovery help

Im stuck on a scrren that just show s a green check that points to a hand taking out a disc then it shows a picture with 3 other discs
I used the system recovery disc that said used this first then when it was done loading files it showed me it

    Hello sunnysom,
I see you are having problems using the recovery discs provided by HP on your computer. I have some suggestions that may help resolve your problem.
I would suggest trying the recovery again with the discs first. Here is a link to HP steps to running a recovery using discs. Try the steps in the link and see if this helps.
If you are still unable to use the discs I suggest testing the hardware on the computer. Here is a link to test the hard drive on the computer. If that test passes you can test the memory (RAM) as well. Here is a link showing the steps to do that as well.
Let me know if this help or if you get any error messages.

  • Had to do system recovery Help!

My computer kept shutting down on its own I had to do system recovery and lost everything on my computer. I reloaded the Itunes software and of course all my music is now gone. It took me forever to have my music on itunes just like I wanted and most of my music was from CD's I own. How can I just import all the music from my Iphone into Itunes. I don't want to loose it from my phone also and I can't do it from Itunes because I did not buy music directly from itunes.

Shouldnt matter if you didnt buy the songs directly from itunes or not. You will just have to reload everything back to your computer from the cds. It impossible with the iphone to get them off and back into the computer. Its possible with an ipod if every media file was transfered from your computer to the ipod. Even if you downloaded illegally is still possible to reload back into itunes.
I suggest buying or borrowing a large hard drive. I havent come across a problem with taking your previousely purchased cds and not being able to load them back into the computer because of itunes. It is tediouse but there no restrictions when you sync back up.

  • System recovery-help!

This is my first post here. It took me a while to get to this point. I am new to mac, bear with me. I did some routine maintenance on my mac last night and this morning all my Quicken info is messed up. How do I restore my system to undo what I did?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
In the future always backup your data before doing so-called "maintenance." Mac OS X does its own maintenance, and any maintenance suggested by others who don't know what they are doing can lead to a worse shape system than one that has no manual "maintenance", except for software such as Macjanitor and Anacron. All others are suspect for causing more problems than good. Two utilities which may recover your information are Subrosasoft Filesalvage, and Prosoft Data Rescue II. But you can't use your computer until you get the data recovery software and an external hard disk as big as your internal that is Firewire to recover to. My FAQ* on backing up should help you in the future:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Quicken provides also a function to Save a copy of your account information in one of its menus. Use this frequently, in case the main Quicken file gets corrupted.
    Good luck!

  • System Recovery Help (Please!) :)

    Hello,
I started a System Restore on my future mother-in-law's Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5063 tonight, but after it had actually begun the process, I got an error message (was not quick enough to write it down, I believe it started with something like F-10______?) and the computer automatically restarted itself. I was then greeted with the wonderful "Boot Manager Missing" message.
Using my fiancé's computer, I did some forum searching and tried the following:
1.) Created a Windows Repair Disc using fiancé's HP desktop. Got the laptop to boot and the recovery options window to pop up... but, unfortunately, attempts to use the System Restore were met only by a (very frustrating!) "Contact HP Customer Support" screen. Which obviously does not help me when trying to restore his mother's Toshiba laptop ;p
2.) Downloaded Recovery Disc .iso's for both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows (as I am not -entirely- sure which her system was using, although I believe it was 64). Again, got the machine to boot just fine... but this time the System Restore option was not even included in the list of recovery options.
I am pretty much out of ideas at this point, and would appreciate any suggestions
    Thanks,
    Laura

Good start, Laura. We call that place WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment).
Tell us about what happens when you use the first entry there, Startup Repair. Sometimes you need to run it more than once.
If that doesn't fix things, at the command prompt run this (and then maybe you need Startup Repair again).
       chkdsk c: /r
Downloaded Recovery Disc .iso's   ...  Again, got the machine to boot just fine...
Don't know what this is all about. Hope you didn't mess up Windows.

Need help,  HP mini 110 Windows 7 32 bit.  using my recovery disks I created i was able to recover to the old 160 gb hard drive.  After I installed new 320 Gig drive and used my recovery disks i now get boot disk error. Looks like system was installed on new drive. but will not boot to complete set up.

If you use the recovery disk, your machine will restore to its default factory state. Try to reinstall the 320 GB you have if you want it to get back.

  • HP Mini 110-1026NR Need to do a system recovery

I have the HP Mini110-1026NR with Windows XP.  I need to do a system recovery.
    Things I have tried:
I have tried to use all the F keys-system either starts up normally or just goes to Bios
I have tried to download the Hp Mini Image Creator and use that
Things that are causing issues to need recovery:
The computer will not shutdown or restart. I have to take out the battery. Issues with downloads making it hard to fix issue. It is slow, etc
I have called customer support. They haven't been the least bit helpful. They refuse to help or answer a very simple question without paying 60$ today and 15$ a month for a year. My husband and I both lost our jobs. I recently found work online but I'm not getting many hours right now and have 2 kids so I can't afford to do this right now.
PLEASE!!! Any and all help would be much appreciated! I really need to get this computer back to factorysettings ASAP.
    Thanks so much!

I have tried again to do the image recovery thing. Here is what happened.
    I downloaded the file
Saved to windows computer (also hp)
    Put in my flash drive
Then while it was writing the file to the USB I received this errormessage:
The following error occurred while writing the recovery image to the USB drive:

How can I fix this error to allow me to finish creatingbootable USB image recovery?

  • HELP...HP Mini 110 Won't Boot Windows !?!?

    Hey Everyone,
Please read in full and thanks for taking the time to read my problem.
I have a HP Mini 110 - 1100 running on Windows XP. Recently while using my computer, it started to get slow and eventually freeze. Even though I tried to shut down properly, I couldn't and was forced to reset by holding the power button. I've had to do that very few times in the past and usually everything ends up okay. But not this time ! The computer loaded and came to a black screen where the choices of (Safe Mode, Safe Mode w. Networking & Command Prompt, Last Known Configuration and Start Windows Normally) were displayed. I tried Last Known Configuration but as the OS was loading, the Windows XP screen froze, the BSOD (Blue Screen) quickly flashed, and the computer automatically rebooted. This resulted in a reboot loop that was never ending.
    STEPS IVE TAKEN:
    1. I tried to enter Windows through all the aforementioned choices.
    2. I pressed F10 to enter the BIOS in which I restored all default settings.
    3. Attempted to do a hard reset & nothing happened..may have done it wrong...but I tried several times.
    4. Pressed F8 (holding down & pressing repeatedly) to get to the "Windows Advanced Options Menu: (http://devilsworkshop.org/files/2009/06/68224pick-last-known-good.gif)" but the Boot Manger came up instead:
Here, it asks me to choose an OS which is Win XP, and when chosen loop begins again.
From here, I pressed F6 accidentally which took me to the Roxio BackonTrack recovery. I restored with last available saved settings (Apr 26).
    5. I took a Hard Disk Test in the BIOS which showed positive results...right?:
Passed - Restart the system (10000)
    SOME OBSERVATIONS:
    1. I enabled Instant Web so I can at least use something and it works. I'm actually using it now to post this.
I am able to establish a wireless connection.
I can view/listen to pictures/music that I have on my computer. Yet, I am unable to retrieve it for backup.
Instant Web recognizes my USB/SD connections.
Instant Web is syncing time with Main OS...does this show OS is still in working order?
    THINGS TO POINT OUT:
    1. Because the blue screen comes and goes so quickly, I am unable to aquire any error messages.
    2. I did have Anti-Virus installed which scans for viruses everyday and nothing ever came up as a virus.
    3. Everything was working perfectly right before this situation occured.
    4. There is no CD Drive built in nor do I own an external harddrive.
As you can tell, I've tried various methods, but nothing seems to solve this.
Overall, my computer seems to be in a healthy state with working parts so I am confused on why the computer won't boot past the windows xp screen !
What could be the issue casuing this?
What steps can I take to solve this?
What is the proper way to get to the Windows Advanced Options Menu on a Hp 110?
Is something corrupt...What are HP 110's recovery options?
If you need any more specific information about my issue, just let me know!
I appreciate you all for reading this and please help assist me & contribute in any way that you can.
    Thank You!

I'm going with simple corruption of the hard drive boot files. A chkdsk C: /r will likely fix it.  If you can get into safe mode command prompt you can run that command from the prompt and it should scan the hard drive and repair any file system errors. You apparently have no mechanical problem with the hard drive (i.e. bad sectors).
if you cannot get into Windows via safe mode (it looks like maybe you have tried that)....you may need to get a copy of somethign like Hiren's boot CD:
    http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd
Or any kind of a Windows preboot environment CD or memory stick to boot the computer and run chkdsk c: /r from the command line.

My HP mini 110-3107tu: At startup HP Bios update screen is displayed with message "The system BIOS is being recovered"....Writing new BIOS image.....
Next message is displayed Verifying new BIOS image...
Thereafter "The System BIOS recovery is complete" message appears. But this process repeats again and again. Please help.
Is there a solution, how i can recover my netbook or should I take it to the service center

I have searched far and wide for a workaround that does not involve sending it to HP. Unforunately, I was not able to find such a workaround.
As a last effort, you can try these steps.
    1. Power off the notebook completely.
    2. Hold the windows key + b keys simultaneously.
    3. Power the notebook on while holding those keys and keep holding them.
    4. Let the keys go when you get a message about BIOS recovery.
    Let me know what happens.

    Hello mtkrass.
Have you tried using a different USB port to perform the recovery?  The error refers to it having issues reading files so that would be a possible solution.  If you're still unable to get the notebook to read the files you need to contact HP Support again and let them know.  There is a possibility the image is corrupted or damaged.
The number for HP Support is 1-800-474-6836 for US/Canadian customers.  If you're in another part of the world you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to get your region's contact information.
