HP monitor doesn't rotate display when monitor rotated

I am using a new (to me) HP Optiplex with  windows 7 professional installed.  I installed the drivers for the existing HP w2408h 24" Monitor from the HP website.  It is supposed to rotate the display to the vertical position when the monitor is rotated, as it used to do with the HP computer it was previously attached to.  An attempt to reinstall the drivers resulted in a message that the reinstallation is denied.  Has an one else had this problem?

Hello Adirondaker,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you are having some issues with the rotation of the display on your monitor, and I would be happy to assist you!
Since you are getting an error message that states "reinstallation is denied", this may indicate that you do not have adminstrative rights on your computer. And because your Optiplex desktop is a Dell Computer, you will need to speak with their tech support in order to further troubleshoot the issue on your computer.
In regards to the software needed for your monitor, you can get your issue more exposure by posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can do this at:

  • How To edit Display ID/Monitor ID or erase Display ID/Monitor ID Windows 7

    Hi !
Started a tread in the other "answers microsoft forum" bur got redirected here hence they thought that this was a developer-question...
    My original Thread:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/how-to-edit-display-idmonitor-id-or-erase-display/62eeace8-358c-4d65-8609-a3df7c3ac216?rtAction=1425277245844
    question:
Have a problem that appears sometimes.
Setting up workstations at work with multiple Display-Monitors, its part of my job...
The Actual ID that the monitors get from Windows is usually not a problem, most programs can adapt to the windows settings and everything is fine.
BUT some of the systems we run sends commands and stuff to based on the actual number of the display, the number that appears on the screen when clicking the "identify button" in the desktop/display-settings from control-panel.
Lets call it the HardWare-ID of the Display
the computer, or windows remember display´s EDID and stores the monitors that has been connected in  a list ?
If I installed the monitors/displays in correct order everything is good and works like we want it to.
So it happens that a display brakes or switch place for some reason, or maybe a driver-upgrade resets the display-list and windows now initiates the monitors in the wrong order.
the monitor that 1 want to have HW-ID 1 now has HW-ID 2, and everything is wrong, messages and commands now end up on the wrong display.
    We have 3 options.
    1 - Fix the display HW-ID
2 - Re-Configure the system and all that that includes, and hope that it wont change back at the next display-switch or driver-upgrade.
3 - re-install windows and hope that the displays get the correct ID and the continue with customer applications and so on.
I have found out that this is being stored somewhere in REG-Edit, but cant find the correct place
Having talked to HP, they don't support this kind of things... it must be a windows-problem, try with a clean install.....   c-mon I switched a display !!
Tried clean driver-installs from AMD and Nvidia for the graphics cards, worked one time, until I rebooted the machine, the back to square one...
    Then they ponited at Microsoft.
Having talked to Microsoft Support they dont support this kind of things....
I dont have the skills, but I cant se a problem with a scrips that deletes the reg-edit EDID list after a reboot ?
then it wouldnt be so complicated, simply:
unplug all but the display that you wan to be number 1
    run script
    reboot
plug in display 2 and so on ?
    clearification:
    Hi !
    The question remains.
Not sure you guys understand my problem, doesent seem so...
I have the need to sweep the computers display-memory
The Application we are using is sending the commands to to logical screen number, not primary or secondary screen.
So It is Vital that I can decide or edit the logical numbers of the displays/screens
It doesent help me at all to switch sides in controlpanel och swtich witch is primary screen for desktop.
the application still sends the commands to teh logical numbers, and we dont want to reconfigure that if we changed a display that was faulty.
    So:
I Need to disconnect displays så that I only have one connected
sweep the display-memory that is on the computer so that the disconnect monitor becomes number 2 when I reconnect it, if I dont get this memory swiped windows remembers the display and gives it the old number again.
    can anyone help me `?
    NOT connected to any Domain.
I realy cant understand how hard it can be to swipe the hardware ID of the displays and start over without having to to a clead install of windows !!

When tower is turned on the monitor will not display.  I know it's on as it flashes the pictures & goes competely black. Even
then Iit makes the usual sounds.

Try hooking up the monitor to a different computer to establish if the problem is with the monitor or the computer's graphics card.

  • Rotate Display in Gnome on wayland

So the question; is it currently possible to rotate displays in a (dual) display configuration under gnome via wayland?  It is clearly possible under xorg, via randr, but this results in horrible screen tearing on the rotated display when scrolling webpages.  Under wayland, there is no screen tearing (ever), so I think this might be a solution if I can get the screen rotated.  There are obviously many other benefits of wayland as well.  The settings are missing under the default screen utility for gnome, as well as under aranadr.  I am running radeon git drivers and have tested with both the EnablePageFlip and the new TearFree options for xorg to no avail.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

Previously you had to install xwayland and vf86-video drivers patched for it. These days everything required is included in xorg-server 1.16, or rather its development snapshots.
Could you tell me what is actually missing in current Arch?
Actually you'll have to wait for Gnome 3.14 if you don't want anything from development snapshot. Because the code in 3.12 only supports the old xwayland (maybe the Gnome developers only cares the stability in Fedora), the code for the Xwayland DDX in Xorg 1.16 has been added in Gnome 3.13 series and will be released with 3.14.

  • When using 2 monitors, Finder always displays on primary monitor even after dragging to 2nd monitor.

How can I set Finder to display to 2nd monitor.  I drag it to the second monitor, but it still display on primary monitor when next opened.

Thank you for your reply. No other program behaves this way, even PhotoShop CS4. It is related to how the program handles OS events.
It is probably a problem with the Windows WM_GETMINMAXINFO and WM_SIZE handlers. My guess is that program stores the maximized size (and it always fills the screen at start-up) and it query to see if it is dragged to a larger screen.
Of course, this theory doesn't address the disappearing program behavior when maximized on the secondary monitor. Since I don't have another OS, I cannot check if it is Vista related or Windows related. Because of the difference in architecture, I'd be surprised if it happened on a Mac, too.

As i had said, I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board? Is there a Fn key combo i'm missing or is the issue more serious then i realize? any and all help and hints would be greatly apprichiated, thanks in advance.

The PowerBooks have an F-key that toggles mirrored and extended mode. My PB is loaned out right now but I think it was f7. The keycap has an icon on two overlapping rectangles, as I recall.
EDIT: Yes! Found a pdf of the PB manual it shows F7 is the toggle:

  • Extra monitor w/laptop in office, when out of office how do I prevent Firefox from displaying on the non-existant 2nd screen?

When I am out of my office using my laptop, upon launching Firefox, it displays all of the tabs from the previous session on the non-existent extra monitor which is set up as a screen extention for when I am in my office. All of the other programs that I park on the extra monitor (Outlook for example) display on the laptop's screen when the extra monitor is not attached. Is this a bug? Or, must I not save my open tabs when exiting Firefox if I am going to use the laptop w/o the monitor?

Thanks for your suggestion. I sort of came to that conclusion as I was typing the original question. However if there is anyone out there who has a solution that is not dependent on my remembering to do something before I exit Firefox, it will be welcomed.

  • IPad3 display doesn't rotate when iPad rotates.

The display stopped rotating recently. When it boots up, display is landscape and doesn't rotate. When I open Newsstand, still same but when I open a magazine in Newsstand, the display turns upside down by itself and can't be turned back by rotating the iPad so Ihave to read the magazine by turning iPad upside down.  Is there a setting that controls that or is something broken?.

Couldn't find anysuch setting, that's why i wrote. However, I found a reply to another message that solved the problem. "double press the home button will bring up the screen at bottom showing all open apps, just swipe to the right ..., on that last on left is circular arrow icon."

  • MacBook Pro overheating when monitor is in sleep [weird]

    Hello everybody,
this is my first post here but I am a long time Apple user (from 1995 until today).
Last summer, in August, I bought my new MBP 15" with non-Retina display, mid-2012 series which presents a very strange issue.
I investigated a lot on the problem, trying everything, without coming to a solution, unfortunately.
I think I will contact Apple also via Bug Report website, because I think it's a software bug. I'd like to hearing from you, as well.
Users' experiences are often more useful.
The thing is quite simple to reproduce: when I put the monitor(s) to sleep, doesn't matter if only the integrated one or using also the external display attached to the Mac, the GPU becomes HOT, let's say hotter than when using the Mac normally. Isn't it strange?
How do I measure the temperature?
There are many softwares. I use two: Temperature Monitor and iStat Pro, which is a widget for the Dashboard.
    I also use my hand!
If I go away from my desktop and leave the display going to sleep, or if I put it to sleep manually using a hot corner (it's the same, no difference), when I come back and touch the top case in the zone corresponding to the processor and the GPUs, it is uncomfortably hot.
When I use the MBP normally, like now, writing this post, with fifteen applications open (among which Photoshop) in the background the GPU is at only 48° and the top case slightly warm.
When I come back from sleep the sensors display temperatures that go from 60°C to 80°C !!!
It's absurd. Everybody knows that high temperatures are not healthy for electronic components and batteries.
I decided to investigate deeply, looking also into the logs, and I found, in /var/log/system.log the following excerpt just after coming back from sleep mode with the GPU working in some mysterious way:

Then I booked an appointment to the Genius Bar, in my nearest Apple Store in Rome.
First time, after explaining the issue, they changed the fans (...).
No way, it didn't work (I had my doubts from the beginning it should do, anyway).
Second time I booked, they resetted SMC and PRAM (NVRAM), and gave me the MacBook Pro back.
It didn't work. I did the reset before going to the AS, by myself, at home.
Third time I booked, suspecting a hardware problem, they changed the whole logic board.
    It didn't solve the problem.
I tested and reproduced the issue with the lastest release of Mac OSX, 10.8.3, with a clean install and no third party softwares installed. It happens not everytime the display goes to sleep, but almost everytime.
I also have done all the firmware updates, every time they came along in Software Update application from August 2012 since today.
I really don't know what else I can do, except writing to Apple Bug Reports and hope they read me and work on this.
Moreover, to understand if it's an issue related to the Intel HD Graphics 4000 card or to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M one I found and installed a simple software, gfxCardStatus, which allows you to bypass Apple automatic switch feature and choose manually which card to use.
I noticed that only using the most powerful card, the NVIDIA GeForce, the MacBook Pro becomes hot when the display is left alone and goes to sleep after the interval set in Energy Savings options.
Disabling the screensaver doesn't change anything.
Changing the period after which user's password is asked after waking the Mac from sleep changes nothing as well.
Useless to say, I need to leave my Mac turned on, because sometimes I have to access to it from another machine, and I also want to save energy and the life of my monitors putting them to sleep when I don't use them.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your attention so far.
    Daniele

The Zendock simply bunches the different normal plugs together. So there's no way for the MacBook to detect that it's being used.
I don't think I've seen a dock in recent times that does what you want it to do.

  • My 2nd monitor won't turn on when plugged in

    Hi guys,
I have a Macbook Pro (June 2012) and i am using the thunderbolt port to have an external monitor (Neovo F-417)
I am using an adapter between the monitor (which is VGA) and and the Macbook (thunderbolt port)
When the mac is on and i plug in the display, the screen goes blue for a second as it should but the monitor doesn't turn on but it thinks that the screen it there because it shows up in Displays in System Preferances and it allows me to drag the cursor off the Macbook screen and onto the blank screen
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Chris

Then your adapter may be inadequate for converting to VGA.
There is a perfectly good Analog VGA signal already present. It is presneted on the DVI port on a Mac Pro display card. Asimple adapter will re-wire it for VGA use, no conversion required. Does no apply to your MacBook Pro.

  • Samsung 27" monitor doesn't recognize my MacBook Pro

Hi All....I bought a Samsung 27" monitor ( S27B350H ) last night to use with my MacBook Pro laptop.  I connected a HDMI cable from the monitor to the HDMI/DVI adapter then connected it to my MacBook Pro.  Monitor doesn't recognize my MacBook. Why?
The CD that came with the Samsung can only be opened on a Windows machine.  I don't know/do Windows.
There is a floating box on the monitor screen that switches between the word Analog and the word HDMI.
Do I need to do something in the System Preferences > Display section to get the Mac and Monitor to recognize each other?
    Appreciate any help or ideas.
    MSW

The Mac does not use Drivers for specific displays, so nothing on that CD will be useful anyway.
Instead, the Mac uses a highly parameterized display driver for each graphics card. When the display identifies itself by name and capabilities, Mac software automatically sets the parameters in the Driver for optimum performance with the stated display capabilities.
The problem comes when a display does not properly identify itself. No picture.
    About this Mac > ( More Info ) Graphics & Displays ...
... will show you whether the display has reported it NAME and CAPABILITIES.

  • Mac mini doesn't recognize the second monitor

I have Mac mini mid 2011 with dual display setup - one HDMI, the Second one thunderbolt to DVI adapter.
Majority of times it doesn't recognize the second monitor connected through thunderbolt. Sometimes it start suddenly after a while, I've read there are some issues with the 10.10.2 Yosemite...
Any  suggestions how to sort it out please? Many thanks, this is really a pain in the *** for me, strugling for a half an hour with a monitor...

Thanks lllaass I tried it but doesn't work. I tried with different cables, still doesn't work.
The strange thing is that sometimes it suddenly starts and works smoothly... Really strange problem. I will try a new adapter Thunderbolt to HDMI....
What is the worst, when both monitors work smoothly and I put the computer to sleep or i shut it down, when started all over the monitor is not recognized.
    Ehhh :-(

  • Duplicate mouse cursor appears (but doesn't move) on second monitor

I have a Mac Pro with the ATI XT1900 video card and 2 Dell 2407WFP LCD monitors attached via DVI.
When I'm using an application, such as a web browser, and the cursor changes state (like the black arrow with spinning wheel in corner) a duplicate of this cursor state appears on my second monitor, on the left-hand side of the screen.
This cursor DOES NOT MOVE, but does animate, and will not disappear unless I move my "live" cursor over to the second monitor, which I imagine causes OS X to "refresh" the position of the cursor. It realizes the duplicate shouldn't be there and it vanishes. The second cursor seems to appear only when the primary live cursor changes state, as in the black arrow becoming a black arrow with spinning wheel in the corner, etc.
This is not a duplicate cursor due to having Displays set up to mirror one another. The second cursor doesn't move.
This has happened in more than one software application, so it appears to be some sort of display driver error at the system level.
Anyone else experience this or have a way to fix it? There have been several Apple Updates to OS X since this problem first started happening (on day 1 with the Mac Pro) and it has not been resolved.
