HP notebook 635 usb boot option

We have several hp notebook 635 that need to have usb boot option disabled in bios. When i go into bios usb is the only device that I can't disable. Am I missing something? Is it possible to disable usb boot as these computers are being used by students on a network who do not need to this option. Nor sdo we want them to have this option. Thanks in advance.

Some HP bios's are very limited, if it is not available in the bios, you cannot.

  • Windows 8 does not have a USB boot option

QuestionHow can I boot my Windows 8 laptop from a USB device? I created a recovery disk on a USB thumb drive.
    So far I have:
Entered into the UEFI (BIOS) and set USB to boot first.
    Disabled secure boot.
I tried to reboot using the general setup options for startup in the windows settings page. I choose boot from USB through the UEFI, but got an error message that system does not have a USB boot option.
To confirm I also created a bootable DVD with an ISO burner, but my laptop cannot detect a DVD boot option either.
I assumed that the firmware of the UEFI for this computer allowed a bootable USB but in practice I cannot seem to get this work.
AnswerTo assist with not being able to boot from a USB device on a Windows 8 laptop, perform the following:
    Plug in USB bootable device.
Hold down F12 when restarting and access UEFI menu (option is below drive list). If system is set to fast boot, CLICK HERE for instructions on entering the UEFI.
Go to UEFI and make USB "1st boot".
    Disable secure boot.
Go to the "Advance" Tab, select "System".
Change boot order from UEFI to CSM.
    Save changes and exit (F10).
Computer will restart and boot from USB drive.
When finished go back into the UEFI and set defaults then save changes and exit (F10). Windows 8 will reboot normally next reboot.

Done that, only choices are "Set up Firefox to Sync" & "Pair a Device". No ''UNLINK THIS DEVICE". Your turn.

    hi try2ops,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The options set under your BIOS are all set,
       With that, try this
    Plug in your Bootable USB
Power ON your system then right away start hitting F12
It should give you a Boot Menu Including USB as bootable.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

    Thx for any reply :)

    Hey, thx for reply.
It's my friend's laptop and not mine :) And the reason why he wants to install Windows 7 from USB is that I adviced that to him. As I have older Satellite laptop and I prefer to install it in that way - it's faster and i guess more precise :) Plus, my Mat****a DVD mechanic has been screwed for one year now (and I am not going to pay 200 $ for a new internal DVD mechanic at all).

  • Portege A600 - Dissapearing of USB boot option after updating to bios 3.00

USB boot option seems to have disappeared from bios boot sequence menue after I installed bios 3.00. I wonder why this happened and how I can bring it back.

    Hello,
normally the USB boot option is available and you can select the supported modi in the bios settings.
In a company environment it is possible to disable USB as boot device with some special tools. In this Case yo ushould ask your administrator.

  • How can I boot to USB device if no USB boot option in BIOS

I just purchased a Toshiba NB305-N410BL but am concerned as to how I would image the 250GB HDD if I can not boot from an external cdrom drive.  I tried to backup to shared network folder but none show up on list.  Only boot options in BIOS are HDD, FDD, and LAN.  Thanks for all help in advance.

    Hi, buddy-erp.
I don't know if my instructions apply to you because I only have the NB305 model. However, if you say you have followed all instructions, that is, 1) insured that no other USB devices are connected to your computer at bootup time and 2) have pressed F12 to enter the boot menu; 3) and then designated the USB flash drive as the source of the bootable restoration software you may need Toshiba technical support. I wonder if there is a BIOS update for your computer too. This may need to be downloaded and installed prior to beginning the restoration process. Nevertheless, as stated, I have a NB305 model and the instructions are clear. FYI (for your information), a virus infected my system and made certain changes to this process. Toshiba technical support informed me that the information displayed was wrong and the process outlined was unnecessary but did require technical support to restore it to the OEM default options.
    Good luck.
    Sincerely,
    Bi-Ill

  • TX2Z USB Boot option

I'm a network administrator,   and recently worried about security, I downloaded and installed a linux based security tool to a USB Flash drive. I had the intent on using my TX2Z laptop to run the Operating System. I went and changed the Boot order in the BIOS and set it to USB Hard Disk, and restarted the laptop with the USB thumb drive connected.  However, I get stuck at the HP splash logo, with no 0S booting. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I updated the Bios to the most recent (f.14), yet still nothing.  I've also looked deeper in the Bios and found the boot enabling options, and the USB option is not there. Yet, the option is on the boot order. I'm at a loss for answers.
    Does anyone have an idea?

The only thing I can think of is, when a bootable USB is attached (at start-up), the boot menu will recognize it..
I think you'll find that when there is a drive plugged in, the BIOS does indeed show USB in the boot sequence.
Notice in the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 60, you are instructed to insert the USB flash drive before turning on the computer.

  • USB Recovery of Netbook (NB505-N500BL) w/o USB Boot Option

I recently recovered from malware, and would really like to recover the netbook to out-of-box state.  I've found the links to order the recovery USB (this netbook does not have a DVD drive).  The manual suggests creating/using recovery media on either DVD or USB.
In checking out the boot menu though, it doesn't appear to have a "Boot From USB" option.  It only shows HDD/FDD or LAN.
The only thing I can think of is, when a bootable USB is attached (at start-up), the boot menu will recognize it, however, my experience with BIOS/boot menus, this isn't expected behavior (it should show up as an option whether or not something is connected).
Is there any way to do recovery of this netbook?

  • Qosmio F30-140 - How to use Flash USB boot option?

    Dears,
After I update my laptop BIOS, when I start my laptop I find new boot method, it is from Flash USB ?:| How can I use it and what type of file must be in it? I mean .iso or what?
    Thanks

    Hi
I dont have Qosmio F30 so I cant test it for you but I think this options means that you can boot from an USB stick for example. Have you checked this?
You cant boot from an iso file because you must create a bootable media. For example a Windows start disc or a Linux version that you can boot from USB stick.

  • Qosmio F10: USB-Boot needed.

    Hi all
I have an Toshiba Qosmio F10 series.
I need the ability to boot from usb stick.
As toshiba-BIOS doesn't offer a USB-boot option, I want to ask if someone knows a
way how it will be possible.
    Thanks in advance to all!

    @r2d2
    thanks for your answer.
One possibility is to use the usb-boot-fdd to redirect to the stick
(means to create a boot-disk which has usb-drivers and checks the devices (stick or hdd/DVD ) for a bootable syste)
do you know how to create such a floppy-disk?

  • 4530s DC CARD or USB BOOT not working even if it has this option in bios

i just posted a message but i think it's in the wrong section..
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-questions/sd-card-boot-and-usb-boot-not-working/m-p/9...
Hi, i just got a HP ProBook  4530s , I5 processor, Intel HD 3000 , i have a problem with it, i can't boot on any usb or sd card, i tried all linux versions i could find and also some live windows and bartPE, on my sd card i get the "Disk read error" as soon as i choose the booting device and on usb it goes a little bit further i can see the linux logo some processes starting and then same error related to write on disk, the sd card and usb are not in read only mode and on my other laptop a older one 6730s everything works...
Also all the usb and sd card work perfect in windows, when i boot from internal HDD.
Is there a fix for it??  Or can anybody that has this laptop test if it works booting from usb or sd card, maybe it's a problem with this unit..
i have tried all available bios verions and various usb devices but as i said the usb sticks all worked on my other laptop but not on this one.
Oh and also is there a bios option to stop virus check on boot? as far as i could test that is the only option in bios that is not there and i can't test with it ON/OFF.. any help would be apreciated because i can return the laptop for 30 days and i allready have it for one week. and i really need this option to work.
PS - sorry for my bad english but i'm from Europe

Yes, I've tried this. I pulled the power cable, waited two minutes, hit the CMOS button, and also removed the battery, and waited another minute.
After which, I loaded optimized defaults, but the problem remains.

    Hello,
I can not say if it is supported on this notebook or not, but on some Satellite M series USB memory is a supported boot option. If you hit F2 on start up and go into BIOS then check boot, if it is supported it should be listed there. Otherwise it is not supported on this model. Hope that helps.

  • HOW TO YOU ADD USB FLASH DRIVE TO BOOT OPTION

i HAVE TWO LAPTOPS SAME MODEL NUMBER ONE CRASHED, hp SUPPORT TALKED ME THROUGH F11 TO RECOVER TO FACTORY CONDITION  THE LAPTOP STOP AT 100% WITHN1 MINUTE LEFT TO CMPLETE.  HP TOLD ME TO ESCAPE AN DO F2 TO CHECK THE HARD DRIVE.  THAT WORK IT SHOWED ALL THE CHECKS PASSED.  IT TOOK 2 + HOURS SO WHEN i CALLED BACK DIFFERENT PERSON SAID $350 SEND IT THEY WILL FIX.  iT'S NOT IN WARRANY SINCE FEB2014 i ONLY PAID $399 FOR IT, CANNOT AFFORD THAT.  SO HP TECH SAID USE SECOND PC TO MAKE A FLASH DRIVE .  (I MADE CD'S WHEN I FIRST GOT IT BUT THEY DID NOT WORK).   SO GOT A FLASH DRIVE WTH 32GIGS (I THOUGHT SHE SAID I NEEDED AT LEAST 20 GIGS)  COPIED THE RECOVERY PROGRAM, NOW THE USB WILL NOT OPEN.  FROM AN EARLIER WRITTER HE WAS TOLD TO F10 BIOS, ESC LOOP FOR BOOT OPTIONS TO SEE IF USB FLASH DRIVE IS THERE.  MY PROBLEM ITS NOT ON MY PC SO HOW DO I ADD IT SO THE USB WILL OPEN.
RIGHT NOW PC IN A LOOP WHEN POWERED ON HP AND TIME COMES UP, LITTLE WHILW A BLOCK WITH HP/DAT/TIME COMES UP AND A CMD ON BOTTOM OF SCREEN, IT GOES BY TOO FAST T CLICK ON IT AND GOES BACK TO HP LOGO.  IF I COULD ADD USB FLASH AS AN OPTION IT MIGHT MAKE IT OPEN  ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

The flash drive is not going to show up if it is not bootable. To make a bootable Recovery on flash you have to use Recovery Manager just like you do to create cd/dvd Recovery.

  • Satellite P305, boot options menu not show for usb flashdrive

P305S8822 Boot Option Menu did not show item for starting with USB flash drive.  THere was an option for a usb external hard drive but that device was not connected while starting the computer.  The usb FLASH DRIVE was connected.  Does Satellit Laptop P305-S8822 have or supposed to have a boot option  choice available for usb flash drive?

    Satellite P305-S8822
I don't believe computers of that vintage could boot from a USB connection. (But you have FireWire and modem ports.)
