HP Notebook G72-B27CL hard drive

I have the Laptop above (HP G72-B27CL) that will no longer boot up.  I get error message Boot Device not found(03F0).  I have run the diagnostic tests and it says my hard drive doesn't exist.  I've also tried to to run the recovery and it failed as well.  Is my hard drive bad?  If so where do I get a new one.  And if I get a new hard drive do I have to go out and buy windows and have to reload it.  Or is it just easier and cheaper to buy a new one.

Your Service Manual is> Here if you need it for removing the hdd. You might also try removing and reseating first before replacing it to see if that helps.
You can replace it with a retail hdd, such as> HERE
If you did not burn your Recovery Disks you can order Recovery Media for about $17 on your support page. These will install Windows and all drivers/software >Here

  • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook recovery following hard drive replacement

After replacing a failed hard drive with the same Samsung/Seagate ST500LM012 that came in the notebook I now cannot recover the factory settings. I continue to get the "Bootmgr is missing" error, even after trying three different recovery oiptions through the HP Recovery Manager (Factory Reset, System Recovery and Minimized Image Recovery). I have also tried the various bootrec comands posted in the HP forums that are suposed to fix the MBR (FixMbr, FixBoot and Rebuildbcd) and it always seems to indicate that no Windows installation were found and therefore doesn't give me the option to "add installation to boot list?".  I also reset the BIOS settings to original.
The closest I got to a successful installation was when I selected the "Minimized Image Recovery" option, however it had an error late in the installation and when it restarted it came up with errors that it could not find HideCMD.vbs and HideEXE.vbs in C:\system.sav\Util\TDCTWKS\.
I am using the Recovery Disk set that I made when I purchased the notebook, and it does not give me a Startup Repair option.
Am I just not following the correct procedure, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • G72-b66us hard drive question

I just bought the laptop in the subject ... I have a HP dv9700t that I put a Corsair SSD drive in .. My question is will the SSD work in the g72 ?

SATA ssds generally work in laptops with SATA hard drives. We get occasional reports of issues but the ssd should be a drop in replacement for the traditional mechanical hard drive.

  • G72-C55DX hard drive replacement/recovery

The hard drive on my G72-C55DX failed.  I am running Windows 7.  Unfortunately, I never did back it up, won't make that mistake again!  So, I replaced the hard drive with a new one matching the specs of my old one, 500 MB.  I have tried to view the main partition of the old hard drive with an external dock on my other laptop, and I can't see anything on it.  I can see partitions for HP_TOOLS, RECOVERY, and SYSTEM, but I haven't tried to do anything with this yet.
I have a set of 4 CDs titled HP Recovery G72 (1-4), and upon trying to boot from the first disk, I eventually get to a window with the title Recovery Manager, with a sub-title of Contact HP Support, and an error message "The system recovery media does not support this computer.  You are not able to restore the system with this media."
In researching other posts for this type of error, I was eventually to create a bootable CD using the CyberLink Recovery Disk Utility, and I followed the directions for that process. I got to the point in that process where I saw the window with the green check mark, whereupon I reomved the Cyberlink Recovery CD, and rebooted again with my HP Recovery CD.  I then get back to the same point where I get the "The system recovery media does not support this computer.  You are not able to restore the system with this media." message again.
Upon starting up the system and going into system diagnostics, I have run the Hard Disk Test, which passed successfully.  So it seems as if the new hard-drive itself is being recognized by the system.
I have tried to visit the HP Support-Drivers & Software site to see if I can order recovery media there, but upon entering my serial number and trying to proceed, I get a page with the message "HP was unable to find the page you wanted.  Please view the information below to get support for your product."
I am unsure what to do next and would appreciate any assistance you can give me.

    @flyingV_56
Running F11 Recovery does sometimes revive the hdd for awhile. However, evidently the hdd is starting to fail and it will only be a matter of time before it fails completely. At that time you will also lose the F11 Recovery option. When you have to replace the hdd you will need Recovery Disks to reinstall Windows. While the hdd is still working I highly recommend to burn a Recovery set using the supplied software.

  • HP 3270nr Notebook Memory and Hard Drive

Wanted to know if anyone out there has tried installing more than 8GB of memory on the 3270nr?  I have tried looking online and contacting HP customer support and was unsuccessful in determining if this notebook could be upgraded to 16GB of memory. I have tried Crucials website as well and they do not have the proper specifications for this notebook.
Also how many drives do we have to install hard drives on?  I was thinking of installing an SSD but as you know they are expensive.  Wanted to get one to have the OS load from and anything that needs to load ASAP while saving the original HD that came with this notebook.

    Hi,
Is it an Envy 17-3270nr ? If yes you can use information from the following link:
       http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Envy/Envy+17-3270nr-upgrades.html
Crucial also shows you the information about SSD. You can buy from them or use the information (including price) to buy elsewhere. Here is its specs:

  • HP Pavilion DV6t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade hard drive to SSD and windows 8?

I want to upgrade my hard drive (WDC WD6400BEVT-60A0RT0) to SSD for faster performance AND upgrade to Windows 8. How should I proceed? Which should come first?
I am not very knowledgeable about these things, but I have changed hard drives before -- never an SSD though. Never had BIOS problems in these changes, so never bothered with it either. No experience about that. I am practically illiterate about that part.
What should I be careful about? Any SSD drive would work? Would BIOS (F.29) and motherboard (144A 65.38) be relevant? How should I choose my new SSD?
Do I absolutely need to clone C: drive? Could I not install windows 8 fresh/anew? What problems may I have with a new SSD?
In short -- what would be the best and least problematic way to do this?
I will back up my audio, video and office files. All copy-paste stuff. I have no problem with installing all my programs from scratch.
I couldn't find a specific thread that provides a comprehensive answer so I opened this thread.
    Thanks.

It should be pretty simple _ remove the battery and adapter _ install your SSD _ hold down the power button for 1 full minute.
Eject the DVD tray with the manual eject hole using a bent out paper clip.
Load you W8 disc _ close the tray and plug in the adapter.
Boot up, it should just boot to the W8 disc, if it doesn't there will be a quick flash on the screen when to press the esc key, after that you choose f9 (with out checking) and tell the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD ROM.
(the W8 disc will format the drive automatically)
Get the newest SSD you can find, don't buy old junk from eBay _ always buy from a reputable dealer.
I have Samsung SSD in my dv8 and has no problems, my old dv7 has an Intel SSD and it's been good too _ no problems. Stay away from bargain deals with obscure brand names.
There are no official drivers posted for your machine for W8, so you can/will have to use the generic ones, but some times the HP OEM W7 drivers will work.
Start with you Chipset driver first _ I think it's Intel _ there are no specs listed as your's is a CTO model.
Get the Chipset driver direct from Intel _ they may have updated their auto driver finder to scan in a W8 environment.
Install the rest of the drivers in any order. You can also use Windows update to find the drivers as well, it's up to you.
Be aware that some things may not work in W8, like you finger print reader.
The SSD will behave exactly the same as a standard drive, the only difference is that it will run faster.

  • Does the G71-340 US Notebook Have TWO Hard Drive Bays

My mother has the laptop mentioned in this subject line. She's got all kinds of issues going on with it. Runs slowly. Hangs. Shuts off randomly. I've run every virus scan and malware scan known to man and it's found nothing. It's either something that's on the hard drive that just isn't being detected and the only solution is to reformat the drive and reinstall everything from scratch or it's a hardware issue. I'm thinking of installing an SSD as the primary drive for speed improvement and reformatting the original drive that's in there right now and installing that as a secondary drive, *IF* this laptop has the ability to house 2 hard drives. Anyone know the answer to this 2nd hard drive bay question off the top of their head for this specific laptop? Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Unfortunately this is not one of the models with the extra hard disk bay. So the answer is no. Consider an external usb hard disk or a NAS.
Installing an SSD as a replacement for the original hard disk is the way to go. Use the largest that you can afford and run a factory image recovery from the recovery disk set.
Take a look at the Maintainence & Service guide.

  • Pavilion DV6449 notebook hard drive compatibility

I have a HP Pavilion DV6000 (p/n: GA456UA#ABA, service tag DV6449us) notebook without a hard drive. I happened to have a Toshiba 500 GB SATA 5400 RPM used hard drive available and I would like to know if the used HDD is compatible with the notebook. I asked two computer stores and one said the notebook was limited by the BIOS with a maximum of a 200 GB hard drive; however, the other store said the notebook can take a larger size of the HDD.  Could someone help clarify this for me?
If the HDD is compatible, I also would like to know what procedures would get the notebook running after the HDD installation, and if I need to update the BIOS? Do I need to format the HDD? When should I install the OS?
Also, I don’t have a HP re-install disk to reinstall the OS. Can I temporarily use my other PC’s reinstall disk (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) to test if the notebook is running correctly before I purchase an OS license? I’ll be greatly appreciative if someone can list what steps I need to take in order to get the notebook up and running.

    Hi:
If you successfully created the Vista DVD, you should be able to boot from it.
In order to do that, the easiest thing to do is to have the DVD in the DVD drive, boot up the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F9 key to launch the one time boot menu.
Select the DVD drive from the list of devices and hit the enter key.
If the DVD was made right, you should see a message on the screen that states in substance...Attempting to boot from DVD...Press any key to boot from DVD...
Hit any key and the PC should boot from the DVD and you should see a white bar on the bottom of the screen that shows that windows is loading files.  Then just follow the rest of the instructions when the install screen comes up.

  • Hp Envy notebook where is my hard drive?

I am possibly being very dimwitted but I can't seem to find the full 1TB hard drive that my Hp Envy m6-1115tx notebook should have. When I open the disk drives it only displays 100gb in the C Drive, and the Recovery Drive (along with DVD Drive). Does Windows 8/this model of notebook store the hard drive in a hidden place? I should note the notebook is a display model so the store had to reset it before selling it to me - I am worried they've done something to the hard drive and now I only have a tenth of what I should have.

You should be seeing the whole 1 TB. I bet the people at the store messed up the partitioning of the drive when they wiped it.  Open disk management:
    Here's How:
Swipe up from the Start screen and touch the All apps icon. With a mouse, right-click on the Start screen and click the All apps icon.
On the Apps screen, scroll or swipe toward the right and locate Windows System.
Click on or touch Control Panel, located under the Windows System category.
Windows 8 open Control Panel on the Desktop.
Click on or touch the System and Security link.
Note: You won't see System and Security if your Control Panel view is set to Small icons or Large icons. If you are on one of those views, just touch or click on Administrative Tools and then skip to Step 6.
In the System and Security window, click or touch the Administrative Tools heading, located at or near the bottom of the screen. You may need to scroll down to see it.
With Administrative Tools now open, double-tap or double-click on Computer Management.
With Computer Management now open, click or touch Disk Management, located on the left-hand side of the Computer Management window, under the Storage heading. If you don't see it, you may need to expand Storage by clicking or touching the |> icon next to it.
Disk Management may take several seconds to load but will eventually appear to the right.
You can now format a hard drive, change a drive's letter, or whatever other task you were planning from Windows 8's Disk Management utility.
If you know how to take a screen shot do it and post it but you may see a disk (likely disk 0) which has a big blank space in it. Take a look and post back. If only part of the drive is partitioned you can enlarge the existing partition or make a new partition which will then take a new drive letter.

    Hi,
You free to choose the make of HDD ( and you could install a 750Gb HDD - see maintenance guide below ), but as an example, the drives on the link below would be fine for your notebook.

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

Hello mafrerichs and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Simplest way is to use Target Disk mode:
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode - Apple Support
and hook to another Mac and use CCC or SuperDuper and clone your HD to another drive.
You could also pull the drive out of your MBP and use an external USB case or SATA - USB dongle to hook it to another Mac.

  • I need to replace the hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv6405, where can I find a replacement?

I was given this computer, first I had to contact your board to unlock because I had no password for Power on, I got it unlocked with your help, and I thank you for your help, but the hard drive must have failed because it says there is no hard drive. Do you know where I could get a replacement for it? Or is it even worth fixing?

    Hi:
First run the hard drive diagnostics found in the BIOS to see what it reports.
If it also reports no hard drive found or reports errors with the disk, the hard drive is probably dead.
I had posted the link to the service manual on your other question regarding the password.
I highly recommend you open the hard drive bay and see if there is a hard drive in there now.
If there isn't, you will not only need a new hard drive, but also the caddy which it needs to be connected to the PC's motherboard.
If the notebook has a hard drive, then you can get any SATA II notebook hard drive. I would not go beyond 320 GB for that model.
This site has hard drives at very reasonable prices.
    http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Drives
Then you just remove the caddy from the old hard drive and transfer it to the new one.
You will also need recovery disks to install the operating system and programs that shipped with the PC.
Please read the info at the link below on how to order recovery disks.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=bph07143#N76
If HP no longer has them for your model, then you can order them from this non-HP vendor. You will need to know if the model is a dv6405us or dv6405ca.
    http://www.computersurgeons.com/SearchProducts.aspx
If you discover your PC does not have a hard drive or caddy, it would be best if you ordered a drive from HP (one of the ones listed in chapter 3 of the service manual). I believe they come with the caddy.
