HP Office Jet 8600 Not Reading Black Cartridge

After having read previous posts and having tried the solutions, none of them work.  I have replaced all cartiridges with new HP cartridges. I got a few printouts after replacing the new black cartridge that had been refilled by Costco with a new HP cartridge. But the colors were still off in the blues so I replaced all the cartridges. Now it won't print and I am getting the message, "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged."
I have spent my entire day running back and forth to plug, unplug the printer, take out the cartridges, replace the cartrides.
Please help someone...

  • Two Sided Printing with  HP Office Jet 8600

I have installed an HP Office Jet 8600 N911A  The two sided printing feature is not functioning.  HP's website offered instructions on the OX 10.6 system, but not 10.7.3

    Hello,
You should be able to print on two sides using this method for your product:
NOTE:You can print your document on both sides of the paper, instead of just one side. Click on the Advanced button on the Paper/Quality or Layout tab. From the Pages to Print drop-down menu select Print Odd Pages Only . Click OK to print. After the odd numbered pages of the document have been printed, remove the document from the output tray. Reload the paper in the input tray with the blank side facing up. Return to the Pages to Print drop-down menu and then select Print Even Pages Only . Click OK to print.

  • Office jet 8600 won't scan more than one page

My Office jet 8600 will only scan one page at a time.  It doesn't matter if I use the document feeder or put the document on the glass.  When the scanner asks if I have another page I select yes and then I receive a message telling me the scanner is already in use and can't scan another page.  I have talked to HP tech support twice and downloaded new drivers.  The scanner worked perfectly until the last few days when it started having this problem.  HP tech support was not able to help.

    Hi @LonghornJack
I am really not certain what would cause the message stating that the printer is in use when you try to scan a second page, but running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.

Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If this does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Cant set up my HP office jet 8600 printer with my iPad mini

Can't set my HP office jet 8600 printer with my iPad mini

That is not an AirPrint supported printer. Check for compatibility here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
Check the App Store for an HP app that may provide limited printing functionality. Alternatively, you can use your computer as a wireless print server using an app like Printopia. Note that your computer must be on and able to print for this solution to work.

  • Error code 242 on Office jet 8600

Office Jet 8600 quite accepting fax's. Error code 242, but fax test show all connections are good.

    Hi @Skylek
According to the following document, error 242 means the remote fax machine is attempting to receive instead of send. Both machines have attempted to start a reception at the same time. On many fax machines, it is possible to accidentally initiate a fax reception in the following cases:
There is no paper in the machine.
The paper is not correctly loaded and the document sensor cannot sense it.
Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports
    Recommended Solution:
Contact the sender to make sure that a document is ready and correctly loaded in the sending fax machine. Also make sure that the remote machine is attempting to initiate a transmission and not a reception.
    I hope this helps.

  • HP Office Jet 8600 Pro network connection

Today is 12/10/2014.  This morning a windows 8.1 automatic update was installed.  After installation, the HP Office Jet would not print.
The reported error was that two way communication could not be established.
I have reinstalled the printer and rebooted several times with no luck.
My laptop prints to the printer just fine.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @johnodrake
I understand you now cannot print after Windows 8.1 performed an automatic update!
Could you please try running the Print and Scan Doctor.
This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results. Please send me a reply with the results.
Also, when you uninstalled the printer, did you uninstall the printer by using the Control Panel, and did you restart the computer before re-installing?
    Happy Thursday!

  • Why won't ipad print to HP office jet 8600 all in one printer model n911a ?

Why won't ipad print to HP Office Jet 8600 model n911a? My I Phone 4S will print to printer but Ipad won't.

    Hi,
The HP Officejet 8600 is an AirPrint enabled printer, there is no such 8600A model as listed above.
Try updating the printer firmware and check for any change:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02919168&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &product=4323659&tmp_track_link=ot_search
If the same persists it might happen due to lack of Bonjour compatibility or wrong configuration of your router.
Try bypassing the router using the HP Wireless Direct option:
Click the Network / Wireless Icon on the printer front panel and then tap on Settings.
Click on Wireless Direct and select On (No Security).
From your iPad go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to the printer's network, it should include either 8600 or n911.
Try printing and check for any change, if that works be sure to clarify your router brand and model to better understand if it support Bonjour and how that kind of support can be enable.

  • HP office jet 8600, wireless not working, IP address not being recognized

Purchased new HP office jet pro 8600 N911a.  Inserted CD software on relatively new Toshiba laptop using Windows 7, but problem is that printer IP address is not being recognized.  Wireless router is Apple airport extreme.  Have checked various potential solutions, including the following:  deleting software and re-inserting CD, turning off router, computer, printer and resetting, running a wirless network test (no problems found, wireless on and working and connected), ensuring that laptop and printer are on the same wirless network (yes), ensuring that printer IP address is entered correctly, and ensuring that firewall issues are not a problem.  Airport extreme settings show this printer's MAC address as a "wireless client" and its IP address as a "DHCP client"; however, when clicking on the "printers" heading in Airport extreme printers, no printers are listed (this is the pane that shows the USB printers connected to your Airport wirless device). Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi,
Why don't you connect the printer wirelessly to your Airport Extreme?
You may do so by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer screen, click Settings and follow the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the device, then it should recieve its own IP by using the printer capabilities..
If you prefer to use such a Print Server configuration, you may try using a different USB and check if that may help, otherwise I would suggest you to contact Apple as they know their accessories the best..

  • AirPrint non–functional on office jet 8600 pro

I purchased my office jet pro 8600 a couple years ago. One reason was due to it having AirPrint capabilities. This functionality worked great for me until a couple months back. Now I read other posts about the 8600 AirPrint not working, and the response from support is to go look at apples list of AirPrint supported printers and the 8600 is not listed. I'm confused since HP advertised on the printer retail box as AirPrint compatible but now am told to check Apples site for compatible printers. I need AirPrint functionality so please tell me what is the correct place to find a printer that will work for me now and in the future. Is Apple the one that holds the master list, or is there really any list that will allow me to protect my investment by knowing AirPrint is support and will be a continued supported functionality of my new printer.

    Hello @nekiwi,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having a problem printing from your iOS device to your Officejet Pro 8600.
    I would like to help.
Sometimes problems occur when the devices is upgraded to a newer iOS version.
Perhaps the problem occured after an upgrade?
More then likely you are just haveing a network issue.
Printing Over a Wireless Network with Apple's AirPrint FAQs
    Try cycling the network.
Turn the printer and the iOS device off.
Unplug the power cord to your router for at least a minute.
plug the power cord back into the router, and turn on the devices.
    Try a test print.
If it still does not work, try connecting to the printer through its wireless direct feature.
This will bypass your network altogether.
If it still will not print, there may be an issue with the printer.
If it prints, then something has happened to the network.

  • HP Office Jet 6500aPlus not connecting to wireless

I have an HP Office Jet 6500aPlus, alomst 2 years old, working well.  No major issues.
A couple of days ago, the printer showed offline.
    I have done the following:
    (a)  Unplugged the printer, reconnected to the wireless, printer the test page and it shows connected.
    (b)  From the 3 laptops and iPad at home, all show printer offline.
    (c)  I tried to go to apps from the printer, states no wireless access.
Did check the wireless connection, states connected.
    (d)  Connected USB cable and printed successfully.
What might be the best way to get the printer on the network again!  I am an HP employee, so totally thrown off with this issue.
    Thanks!!

More than likely it is not going to work then. Getting printers to work wirelessly with hot spots is something that is not always guaranteed to work. I've seen it work, but it is very rare.
Do you have any firewalls or virus-protection set up on your computer?

  • Cannot print office jet 8600 from iphone

Hello, I am using an Office Jet  pro 8600. Everything was running fine with printing wirelessly from our iPhones until we switched from an HP laptop to an iMac desktop. We are on a Hub for wireless internet. I have unplugged and restarted the wireless router twice and used the Wireless Wizard to reset the printer but still cannot print from our iPhones. We can  print wirelessly from the iMac. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

OK, if it works from the iMac, it should also work from the iPhone.  Are you sure your iPhone is connected to the wireless network?

    Hello mohadel,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a hardware issue with the printer.
Please write me back with a detailed description of what is taking place.
If the unit has actually caught on fire and is smoking, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
