HP office jet pro 8600- "No document loaded" error message with OS Mavericks 10.9.1 when scanning

I am unable to scan from either my HP officejet pro 8600 printer or  my iMac, using OS Mavericks 10.9.1.  From computer, message in sequence are:  1) Waiting for scanner 2) no document loaded and 3) scanner failed to complete the scan (this after changing defaults to match type of feed and document.  I can print and copy fine.
From the printer, I receive the following messages:  Scan could not be completed due to one or more of the following:
1) Connection to computer is lost, 2) The scan application or computer is currently in use (Not that I can see) and 3) OCR application is not installed on the computer (have installed and re-installed driver several times, with help of HP customer support person).
I have spent 1-1/2 hours on the phone with an hp customer  support person trying to resolve the problem, based on the above results.  I have also read the solutions on this forum, none of which seemed to either apply or work.

Hi Trishan,
I know you have done a great deal of troubleshooting already and have invested more time than I am sure you would like to have, but I have a document for you to use. I have seen success from those who have used this document.
Communication Error between the Scanner and Your Computer in Mac
You will find, after opening the link, that the 10.9 is not listed; however, this document does apply to all of the Mac operating systems.
I hope this helps.

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus false paper jam message

I am ready to throw this printer out of the window! I am tired of false paper jam messages. The printer will be fine for a few weeks, then...another jam message that may take hours to clear. I have: reset the printer, searched for paper jams, verified the latest firmware, jiggled, and even moved the print cartridge rack to the right (which surprisingly has solved the problem a few times). The only thing I have not tried is an incense purification ceremony. Come on HP, quit telling us to try all the useless procedures. There is a sensor in the machine that is malfunctioning. Fix it! Instead of throwing it out the window, I will put it on the sidewalk and invite passersby to take out their frustration with a hammer. This would make a great video! Additional info: If I am able to run 'align printheads', that frequently fixes the situation. One more bit of evidence that there is some sensor on the blink.  8/28/14: HP support personnel said that the problem I was encountering was most likely due to a faulty sensor.

I bought the 8600 Plus on June 20, 2014; received my first "false paper jam" message yesterday (08/27) after loading Legal size paper and adjusting the paper tray accordingly - and No! I did not mix different size papers in the tray. The Paper Jam message continued; I tried all the steps outlined in the fix it guide offered on the HP website (except those that stated: "press the right arrow, go to settings and print a test page". Why? Because the error message was the only thing on the display! Then I saw all the posts about this same False Paper Jam message and decided to try one step mentioned by an HP user, i.e., load different amounts of paper into the tray. I did that and - what do you know? It began to work but the print cartridge then jammed itself way to the right and began making machine gun type noises so I just shut it down. And, yes! I used the power switch first then disconnected the power cord. My printing use had been very light, there's still @ 85% of ink left in the original cartridges. There are no paper pieces stuck anywhere. There is no lint, dust, or other debris. The printer was never dropped or taken apart. it simply has a major series of flaws. So, what's my next step? STAPLES doesn't want it back, and frankly, I don't want a replacement 8600 that has the same design flaws built into it as this one does. And, apparently, I am not alone...I also don't want to wait for a class action lawsuit to settle this all out 2 years or more from now for pennies on the dollar. I would like to get my full purchase price back, and not have to pay for shipping & insurance to send it back to HP. I must say I have had previous success being the owner of many different HP products, but this 8600 is same Lemon that the Edsel was to Ford (if this is unfamiliar to you, I'm sure you can look it up) Paul Botticelli

  • How do i connect a surface 2 to an office jet pro 8600

I am trying to connect a surface 2 windows RT 8.1 tablet to an HP office jet pro 8600.  I have down loaded the driver from the HP web site but I get an error message that states it can not be run on this computer, and I should go to the app store. I can't find any special appnfor this.

Hi 1643, welcome to the HP Forums. Windows RT does not need drivers installed like other versions of Window. It should be just a matter of connecting it with a USB cable, or following the wireless/wired instructions contained in this document:
Install the Printer Software in Windows RT or Windows 8 on a Tablet.

  • Wireless printing issue. Lonovo Think Pad v. Office jet pro 8600

I went through all 7 of the trouble shooting steps but still can't get my wireless printing to work with my Lonovo laptop T430 and my HP office jet Pro 8600 ..last resort was to join the forum so here I am. all connections appear to be on line and as they should be until I try to print a document.  The print window tells me printer is offline but the printer network test tells me it passed all tests and is connected and ready.  Using windows 7 operating system.

llbbsis, if everything passes my initial concern is that you might not be connected to the same network on your printer as your computer is connected to. So the first thing i would check is being sure that the SSID on both is the same and not something like "NetworkName" and "NetworkName -Guest."
Next, have you used the Print and Scan Doctor from HP? It is a good tool to diagnose and treat some of the smaller issues with printing:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03286146
Check those two things first and get back with me, if you need further help I am more than willing to do whatever I can to get the issue at hand taken care of.
    Have a great day!

  • How to Scan using your HP Office Jet Pro 8600

Well, I figured out my own answer because I couldn't find a "solved" topic in this regard. So then I decided to post my findings in order to help the next querier (is that a word = one who queries). FYI -  I am not a 'techie' and while I can find my way around a computer it sometimes takes a while.  Also, I have Windows 7 on this laptop if that makes a difference.
    1. Go to Control Panel and choose:
    2. Hardware and Sound, then
    3. Devices & Printers, then
    4. Fax-HP Office Jet Pro 8600 (Network) or whatever printer choice pertains to your situation, then
    5. HP Printer Assistant, then
    6. Scanner Actions, then
    7. Scan a document or photo, then
    8. Save as PDF
    9. Scan
    10. Save to folder you choose
I know this may seem simplistic to most of you but maybe someone like me is out there trying to find this out and this might help.

  • Hp Office Jet Pro 8600 A910, suddenly can't send fax. Reveiving faxes are ok.

We can't send any fax, but we can still receive a fax. This happened suddenly without any changes (on device or our telephone line) When sending a fax it dials and gives a busy tone. After that we get a error sheet pointing out Error 388, communication error. Following things we did:- Tried sending fax on our other phone line to rule out broken phone cable/connections.- Called to phone and from phone to fax which worked.- Printed out T90 testsheet. All tests passed.- Tried faxing with ECM off or in other words turned off the error connection mode.- Tried faxing with lower connection speed setting.- Checked other settings to see if there was anything wrong, but all okay.- Powered off, disconnected power cable for at least 15 seconds. Is the fax broken or anything else we can try?

Hi , I see you have been troubleshooting an issue with your Officejet Pro 8600 no longer able to send faxes, and I think I may have found some more information for you. Can you specify your your exact printer model for me? In your post title you say it is an 'Office Jet Pro 8600 A910' but and A910 is an Officejet 8500A. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? Seems like an odd question, but the printer make a copy? It could be an issue with the scanner mechanism.
Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or a power bar? We want to connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause. See this document for more information about Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector (Note: This document is not limited to Laserjet printers.)
HP regularly releases firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. You can click on this link to;Get Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 Premium (H711) e-All-in-One Printer SeriesGet Printer Updates for HP Officejet 6500A, and Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Printer Series Have you tried to run the Fax Test Report? It's usually located in the setup menu, under tools. The fax test report will let you know if it finds any problems and how to correct them. Once everything passes on the fax test report, you can Test Your HP Fax Machine with the HP Fax Test Service.  I reviewed the error code you provided from the Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports document.  Error 388: There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time. Retry the fax reception when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve. Have you touched base with the phone company to make sure they have not changed anything on their end? Does this same error occur with every number you try to dial?  You could see if anything in Fax Sending Fails Intermittently or Fails for Only One Recipient is helpful as well.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!   Thanks,

  • Hp office jet pro 8600 won't scan

Wirelessly connected office jet pro 8600 won't scan in windows. I've checked to make sure proper services are running and they are. Started running diagnostics utility and the driver didn't check out but I have the correct one installed and the printer works just fine. Occasionally a message pops up and says that the computer has lost connection with the scanner. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi GradyIV,
I can help you scan from your Officejet 8600 to your Windows operating system. It sounds like you have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, is this whee you say the driver error?
I suggest using the following steps to delete the printer from device and printers, and the driver from the server properties.
    1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
If the issue persists let me know and I will do what I can to help.

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 all in one

I fax documents from word with my printer. Every once in a while, but more frequently as of late, the document will fax, shows send in the log, I hear the the fax completely send and hang up, but then it will fax it over and over, even though I only set it to fax one time. Only way then to stop it from sending is to turn off printer and then I either have to reboot my computer or log off to get it to clear. When computer comes back up, I turn printer back on and it is ready for use. It has done this since I bought it, but like I said seems more frequent.
It is an HP office jet pro 8600 all in one, running on Windows 8.1. It is hard wired, not running wirelesslym with desktop. Anybody have any clues as to what is causing this and how to fix it.  It is so frustrating.  Thanks.

    Hi LFoskey,
Does the printer send multiple faxes when you fax directly from the printer, or only when you fax from Word?
    You can check for a firmware update in cause the issue is being caused by the printer itself;
HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware
HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g_n Firmware (Plus and Premium models)
    Please also try the HP Print and Scan Doctor, it can quickly resolve any issues including but not limited to;
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> www.hp.com/go/tools
Please post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks ( ), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches ( ), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points ( ), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X ( ), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

  • Office Jet Pro 8600 Premium

Our Office Jet Pro 8600 Premium is suddenly experiencing some kind of problem when printing wirelessly.  We have had this printer for some time and we exclusively print via the wireless network.  We have never had this problem before.  The wireless netwrok has no issues as far as we can tell.  All computers and phones are able to use the wireless network to connect to the internet, etc.  All devices are unable to print to the printer. Devices are mostly Apple products, including the Airport Time Capsule that creates the wireless network, but also some Android phones. Everything seems to be OK - the Network screen on the printer's Set Up Menue says it is connected on the wireless network and it says the signal strength is full, and, the computers on the network in fact see the printer on the network - it is possible to discover the printer when looking for it and the computer is able to accurately read the ink supply levels.  On the computers, the Print Que dialog box says "The printer is not connected" and "Ready on server - Unable to locate printer" when sending a document to print.  There is a small blue light next to the Wireless Icon on the printer and that is not lit - I think it has been lit in the past.  We have stepped through the printer wizard to reintroduce the printer to the wireless network.  We have also deleted the printer from the computer's printer list and added the printer anew.  Interestingly, when doing these last two fixes, the printer sometimes connects for a short time and it is possible to succesfully print a document, then it goes back to unsuccessful.  Sadly, this is not the only problem we have had with this printer and HP's products don't seem to be at the same performance level as in the past.

    Hello @OPMike,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're not able to print wirelessly from your computers or devices to your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One. I would like to assist you today with resolving this connectivity issue. Thank you for including the troubleshooting you have completed prior to reaching out for support. To be honest, because your printer is 'connecting' to the network after running the Wireless Setup Wizard, even if the connection appears to be brief it is proving that the network card within your printer is functioning. Rather, I believe this issue lies with your router. There is a chance that an update may have went through on the network that is now blocking your printer from access. Printers are affected differently than computers or devices on the network as printers require two-way communication. Can I please have you follow the steps below to resolve this connectivity issue.
How to Properly Powercycle a Network:
First, unplug the power cable to your Router
Once your Router is unplugged, turn off your printer
Next, shut down your computer and devices
After 30 seconds to 1 minute, plug your Router back in
    Next, turn on your printer
Turn on the computers  and devices
After a minute or so your internet connection should return. Please check on your computer and ensure that you are able to browse to websites again before proceeding. Once your internet is up and running try to print wirelessly to your printer.
Please respond to this post with the result of powercycling your network. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus Faxing Problem with 2-EXT port Connected

I have the Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus and when I fax, I must disconnect the phone line connected to the 2-EXT port on the back of the printer. This is very annoying, and I'm hoping someone here can provide a more convienent solution. I'm connected through a Cable Modem EMTA device for my voice service that is sharing the fax...which like I said, faxes fine, as long as the phone line is disconnected from the 2-EXT port first.
    Thx,

    Hi @powwow63 ,
I see that you are having issues with sending faxes, you have to disconnect the line in Ext 2 to be able to send a fax.
I can help you with this.
Using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service can cause faxing to fail because fax transmissions are sensitive to the timing of the signals used to transmit the fax. If using a VoIP digital line is necessary, changing the Fax Speed Adjustment setting to Slow might improve the ability to send a fax over a VoIP telephone line.
Make sure that you have a DSL filter installed. If you do not have a DSL filter, contact your DSL provider to find out where you can buy one.
I have provided a document with some steps for changing the fax setting on the printer.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
Go to Solution nine: Enable or disable error correction mode in this document.
