Hp officejet 4500 g510n-z computer is unable to establish two-way communications with the device

Control panel shows the printer is ready and online.  Error says computer is unable to establish communication with the device?  Solution Center says 'disconnected'? Windows firewall is disabled.

If you are using Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 -10.8 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Now reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

When I click onto my Ink Levels for my printer in my computer it goes to 63% and stops. Then it says; The computer is unable to establish two way communication with the device. All systems are up and running and there is no reason I should be having a problem.
I can print, Fax and Scan, I don't get blank paper from printer, printer is not jammed, nothing in Queue to stop it from printing. It just won't show my Ink Levels from my computer.

@marymay222, I will be glad to assist you on how to uninstall the software and drivers for the printer.
    1. Click on the start menu
    2. Choose all programs
    3. Select the HP folder
    4. Highlight the printer name
    5. Select the UNINSTALL tab
This will uninstall the software and drivers. After it completes, reboot the computer.
When it comes back on, insert the CD, if you still have it. If you do not have the CD, you can download the drivers from the website.

  • OfficeJet 8500-A910 unable to establish two-way communication with the device

I have an HP OfficeJet 8500 A910 installed a couple months ago.  On first install the HP software could communicate with it from two computers--one XP and one Win7.  Now I can scan to the locations I setup before and print from both computers, but when I try to run the HP software that was installed and working on either computer, I get "...unable to establish two-way communication with the device".  I have tried all the troubleshooting and downloaded the diagnostic tool.  I have disabled both the Norton and Windows Firewalls.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a similar problem. Brand new HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus, wire-connected to router.
I am unable to print/scan/fax on my Windows XP when Symantec Endpoint Protection is turned on.  I have to disable it to be able to print/scan/fax.
I can do all capabilities with my Win7 computers.  This seems to be a Win XP related problem.
I have checked for HP PML service...not listed.  I show HP Port Resolver and HP Status Server and PML Driver HPZ12 started.
Doesn't bode well for keeping Viruses and other malware at bay.  Any suggestions?

  • The computer is unable to establish 2 way communication with the device (Officejet 8500)

My printer is printing with lines running through it and sometimes in yellow (even though I'm only printing in black & white) I was going to try to use the troubleshooter but it's unable to establish 2-way communitcation... Can you let me know how to establish this communication or do you have any ideas why my printer is acting up this way?
Thanks so much for taking the time today to be on this forum!

Hi, try aligning the printer. Follow the instructions provided in this link to align the printer.

You might need to reinstall the printer software to establish 2-way communication. You can download the latest software from this link.

  • Computer unable to establish two-way communication to J4580 through Airport Extreme

I have my J4580 connected to an Airport Extreme base station via usb.  I've installed the printer software on my HP laptop (Vista) and Bonjour recognizes the printer as networked & installed, but when I try to print, i receive an error message "Computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device" and the printer queue shows an error.  I've attempted to find a solution through the posts, but haven't seen much that seems to apply to J4580.  Any help???  Thanks!

I came across this similar problem and spent days trying to figure it out. I knew I was close when I tried to start the HPZ12
service and it kept failing with "unable to find the specified file". I traced it with a process monitor and found that it was looking
for a registry key that was not present. Specifically:
    HKLM\System\CurrentCosntrolSet\Services\Pml Driver HPZ12\Parameters
It was looking for the string:
ServiceDLL which should be set to:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.dll (or something similar)
The unfortunate thing is that no matter how many times you install and uninstall the HP drivers, then don't reset the registry keys
for the HPZ12 service. In the end, I ended up doing the following:
    1. Uninstall software and reboot
    2. Go through registry editor and delete the PML key (just did a search for all PML occurences)
    3. Deleted the c:\program files\Hewlett-Packard directory
    4. Deleted the c:\program files\HP directory
    5. Deleted the c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\ contents (anything that referred to an HP printer or driver)
    6. Deleted the HKLM\Software\Hewlett-Packard registry key
    7. Rebooted
    8. Reinstalled and everything worked.
I suggest you backup any registry keys prior to deleting them in case you make a mistake. You can use the Export feature on
the right-click context menu to save each key you delete, or use some tool to make a backup of your registry prior to making
these changes. Similarly, for the files, I renamed directories or created backups of their contents.
Once I reinstalled, I found that there were TONS of new registry keys added that weren't there before. So the real problem is
with HPs install/uninstall. It doesn't clean up properly and any aborted or failed instalation will leave the drivers in a poor state.

  • Unable to establish two-way communication with the printer

I have a HP Photosmart B8550 large format printer, but failed recently to print the whole page, but only one third of the page.  The OS is Window 7 in my commuter.  I downloaded the driver from HP website, but it is not working.  The result of the failure is "The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device."  One of the reasons I guess is that I failed to register my printer because I had no way to finish the registration, because there is no further process even if I put my printer name or number into the required block.  Anyhow I failed recently to print anything in the printer.  I am seeking the support after a lot of tries.  Thanks.

I have two HP computers and two HP Photosmart B8550 printers.  A month ago printers were not working.  I tried in vain in two computers to download new HP software and driver from internet and got the HP Solution for install error - Windows 7.  Based on this Solution on desk, I tried many many times to follow every step, but the result is the same:  Fatal error during the installation.
By using other tools like HP Printer Diagnostic Tools, HP Print and Scan Doctor, I failed too because the diagosis or the choices are not accuate.  For example, the printer is disconnected.  It is wrong even if I changed ports and USB calbe again and again.  The control panet can prove that there is communication, but the printer cannot work as directed.  There is no way to test the printing as Doctor requested, saying the computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device, which is not helpful to go ahead with the solution.  There is no way to register the printer because there is no such a model HP Photosmart B8550 in its list after search.
It is even worse that the new window dialogue asked me to find HP Photosmart Essentials in my computer to install it again and again, and I could not concel the request whenever I open my computer.
I guess the HP printer software and driver has something wrong in its root design, which leads me to failure in installation so that the computer could not recognize my printer.  In short, the new HP software and driver makes my printer not functional.
By the way, my two printers can work internally in printing sample paper and report and two computer are working in perfect condition.

  • Error message saying "unable to establish two-way communication with device"

I have an HP C309a printer/scanner/fax. I have recently reconfigured it to work wirelessly instead of via the USB cable, which it does. But if I try to go on to  the HP Solution Centre/Settings/Printer Toobox to clean the printheads, it tells me that this cannot be done because "the computer cannot establish two-way  communication with the device".
If I plug the USB cable back in, I can clean the printheads fine.
Does anyone have a way of allowing me to clean the printheads without using the USB cable?
    roger

    Hi rogercorke,
I believe you can also clean the printhead from the printer control screen. Press the Wrench button from the printer Home screen and then press Tools>Clean Printhead.
If you need to use this feature wirelessly, try running the HP network diagnostic utility on your wireless setup and see what it says: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/en/hho/ipg/foru...

cannot print to previously functional HP7500 on wireless network card.  All reports from printer say everything is working fine (network card and printer), but computer says it cannot establish two-way communication.  What do I do?

  • Officejet 4500 G510n-z everytime offline

Every time, I like to print on my officejet 4500  G510n-z, the solution center says it's not connected to the electric power. As I use it with wifi, the program of my router says tough it's connected and the display of the printer is showing that it is under tension. With a Lan connction it works perfect. Help, what do I do wrong?

The scandoctor don't help, because it says the printer is working perfect as the setting is now only for USB use, but I would prefer Wifi.
I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and the UDP port 427 file is in the settings among the "excluded file types", but when I'm trying to configure the wireless settings, the setup stops saying: Your computer is unable to establish a connection with your printer to address 192.168.178.29. This problem may be related to a software firewall. If you use a software firewall, make sure UDP port 427 is open for both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Is my UDP port 427 not open yet for both incoming and outgoing traffic? How do I open it?

  • Link to Windows 8.1 Printer (Fax, Copy and Scan) Drivers for OfficeJet 4500 G510n-z

    Hello:
Need to know where I can find updated drivers for my OfficeJet 4500 G510n-z printer.   I am using Windows 8.1 operating system.
I have tried using the link at HP, but at the point that it supposedly gets to the install window, it asks me to insert the disc that came with the printer.  When I do that, I still get an error message saying something like "the link cannot be found."  I also get another message at some pont indicating that the full version needs to be uploaded.  Then, the same process starts all over again.   I should add that the printer disc says that it is compatible with XP, Windows 7 and other earlier versions, but not 8 or 8.1
I have tried this 6 or 7 times with the same result.  Dell (the company from which I bought the laptop) was useless and suggested I contact HP.
I can no longer scan, either, because the computer isn't recognzing that the printer has a scan function, so when I go to use PaperPort 12 to scan stuff, it doesn't recognize that a printer is attached.
Any help resolving these problems would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

It is likely your antivirus firewall in the way. What do you use?  Download and run this utility: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e17-1&h_keyword=dg-NDU&ju...

Yes, there should have been either a firmware update/patch, or a full recall on this device.
The software setup and configuration is bad enough for one humble computer, but when used as
intended with multiple devices it's an absolute headache.
I am constantly having to unplug the printer because the machine has decided it needs to rest for a bit. Okay,
everybody deserves a break now and then. But it goes into coma mode and I could be jesus himself and the power
or any other button) still would not wake it.
I would get into the rest but I'm not getting a helpful vibe from the forum; it's more defensive of a product which, apparently just under 5000 people have come by to check on. My friend at Microsoft talked to an HP engineer, who
laughed and gave us the fix.
Uploading to FedEx-Kinko's is the better option.
