HP Officejet 4632 won't scan

Printer screen says "printing alignment page" which doesn't go away even after turning off printer and computer and rebooting.  Tried to scan from program but says cannot communicate with computer.  Ran scan doctor and said driver error.  Uninstalled software and reinstalled from factory disk.  Same results.  Please advise.

Hello @RoscoesLady , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having issues with your printer. I would like to try and help!
I'd recommend removing the ink cartridges, and starting with a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I'd also recommend plugging the printer power into a different wall outlet.
Another suggestion I would make would be to update the printer firmware:
HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer series Firmware Update
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP Officejet 6500A won't scan.

My HP Officejet 6500A Plus E710n (purchased late 2011) won't scan. Prints just fine. I have a MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) purchased late 2011.
I haven't scanned anything in over a year. When I tried to scan a document a few days ago, the problem began. After researching the Apple and HP boards, I uninstalled the original HP software and installed HP's updated software/updates/drivers. I also installed Apple's HP updates, still won't scan. Keep getting the error message "Scanner reported an error. Failed to open a session on the device."
I also deleted/re-added the printer and rebooted the MacBook umpteen times.
I see that when I re-add the printer, it comes up as Bonjour Multifunction (see photo), yet there's no mention of Bonjour in my Activity Monitor.
I'm stumped! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Since that didn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and the HP software.  I'll link the download below, so you don't have to search for it again.  Let me know what happens.

  • HP Officejet 4620 won't scan to Mac with OSX 10.10

After upgrading to OSX Yosemite, I've had a series of problems with my MacBook being able to find my printer.  I've deleted the printer, reinstalled, cycled the router, updated, emptied the cache - you name it.  Now, my MacBook sees the printer for printing but won't communicate for scanning.  Help?

Hi there @BillSpohn , welcome to the HP Community,
I read your message about your scanning troubles and have a few steps in mind for you that should work. Please try these steps in order that I have posted them in. Make sure the printer will produce copies successfully before any software troubleshooting, which will test the printers hardware to ensure the printer is in good functioning order first.
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Download and install the Full Driver here: HP Officejet 4620 series Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this Apple driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
Try scanning now and it should be functioning for you again.
    Good luck

Hello @dbvancouver   and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scan issues.  I would like to help.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer - H711a/H711g Drivers.

  • My printer HP Officejet 4500 won't scan, fax or copy. It displays Scanner failure, press OK.

My product is HP Officejet 4500, The operating System of my computer is Window XP. The error message display on my printer is - Scanner failure, unable to scan copy or send a fax. press OK. THE SCANNER LIGHT DOES NOT MOVE AGAIN BUT THE PRINTER CAN PRINT and I am out of warranty and not inssured

I hate to tell you this, but that message normally means that you will not be scanning, copying, or faxing with this printer any more.  You can try to fix the problem by following the steps in this document, but typically you just have to get a new one.  Sorry.

  • HP OfficeJet G55xi won't scan in 300x300 dpi

I've also posted this question over on the Tiger forum 1/30, but to date, no responses. Thought try other G4 users...greatly appreciate any suggestions/recommendations!
I'm having a scanning problem with my HP OfficeJet G555xi All-in-One. I've contacted HP and have apparently exhausted their knowledge base after twice reinstalling their print drivers. Today they told me:
"I understand that you are unable to scan certain sized documents from your Officejet G55xi to your Macintosh computer with os 10.4. I am also aware that the result of attempting to scan a 300 x 300 mixed colored document is that about half of the document scans and then the scanning stops with an error message indicating that there is a error in communication with the scanning device. This situation appears to be exactly as you indicated in your earlier email messages. The Officejet G55xi scans, however, the Macintosh computer is unable to receive and process the information of the mixed colored scann at 300 x 300 dots per inch (dpi). As you said, in the old days, allocating more memory may have resolved the issue. For further assistance with this particular situation, I recommend that you contact Apple Support."
Here's my situation as I reported to HP:
"I tried scanning the cover of MacLife in the Mixed Color 300x300 resolution as a .jpg file [22.13
MB] and the scanner scans about halfway and then stops. The ol' spinning
beach ball for a minute or so and then a Scan Device Communication Error
message. So I tried scanning at a Photo 150x150 .jpg file [5.54 MB] and was able
to get a successful scan. I tried the Mixed Color 300x300 resolution again,
saving as a .tiff file with the same negative result...scanner scans about
halfway down the document and stops, eventually getting the ScanDevice
Communication Error message. It certainly seems to be a function of the
resolution/size of the document being copied...almost like the old days when
you use to have to increase memory allocation for devices/applications."
My scanner works and I can get results, but not at the resolution that I would like. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/recommendations! Thank you!

I am disappointed that apple has not addressed this issue in the three months since it was reported.
I will take this into consideration when it is time to replace my current old apple powerbook.
Anyway, here is a workaround I have found: Using the HP scanning software, do a preview scan
and then adjust the selection marquee in the preview pane to cover roughly the top half of
the image. Click the "accept" (why is it not "scan") button to scan the top half of the image and
save it as a file. Now go back to the preview panel and move the marquee down to scan the
lower half of the image. Save this as a second file.
Now get out your favorite image processing program that you have purchased or downloaded
from a third party because apple is not a software company. Open both images and connect them
together. Save and you're all set.
There seems to be a maximum size or somesort of usb timeout happening, but I haven't done
    any investigation.
This all just worked in 10.3 but I upgraded to 10.5 last week and it now fails. The thing that
changed is apple software, so it looks like the ball is somewhat in their court.

  • Officejet 6500A won't scan

"Unable to communicate" message. Updated the full driver pack and installed the Print and Scan Doctor, which OK'd the Device Manager but stopped at "Driver Check" with message: "Scan driver unable to communicate with the product." I unplugged the printer and rebooted as receommended but still the same result. I have successfully scanned in the past with occasional no-communicate messages which I solved by the usual off-on, but now it won't work. Might there be some other software, e.g., anti-virus, that's interfering? Thanks. R.

Hooray! I changed ports, ran the Scan Doctor, and it worked! The OCR doc was really clean too.
Why would changing ports make a difference?
Thank you, Teri, for your help. I'm going out of town till early next week and then I'll run some more scans. Let's keep this thread open in case there are further problems. Once I see it's going well, I'll let you know and we can close this out.
