Hey @3CPO,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're getting an 'Out of Paper' message when trying to print from your Windows 7 computer to your HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today to resolve this issue.
Out of Paper messages can be due to rollers issues, debris or paper in the paper path, or a media issue. To isolate and resolve this paper feed issue can I please have you follow the steps below.
To start troubleshooting can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please run through Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. Should the issue persists after running these three steps can I have you click here. Once the Paper Jam support document opens please just run through Solution one and Solution two. I understand that you're not actually getting a Paper Jam message on your printer, but as I previously mentioned, Out of Paper errors can be caused by a paper jam or debris in the paper path blocking the paper sensor. Therefore, it is crucial to check the carriage area and paper path for any debris or paper.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!

  • Officejet 6500 e710 keeps messaging paper out

This printer has lost connection with the router more times than I can count. I have to go through a whole process of rebooting the router, restarting my laptop, and re-adding the printer in order to get it to print. I've put up with this since I bought the thing. Now I can't get past the message "printer is out of paper." I've tried reloading the paper more times than I can count, and have gone throught the entire "what to do if printer says out of paper" checklist. This includes: hard reboot, checking the print settings, and taking the back off and cleaning the rollers. The next step would be to take it to a repair center, but we all know that, after 2 years, it's less expensive and less hassle to just buy a new one (which, I should tell you, probably won't be an HP). Too bad, because I like the the features and quality. Just another piece of unnecessary landfill unless someone here can help me.
I am using a Macbook Air with OS 10.9.4, but this has nothing to do with the OS. Printed fine this morning. PLEASE???

  • Officejet 7000 will not feed paper

My Officejet 7000 will not take the paper from the paper supply tray.
When I send a document to the printer it sounds normal as if the rollers are turning but after a few seconds it stops and the button with the paper icon flashes as if there is no paper (there is paper and I've reloaded and tried reprinting several times).
Just prior to the issue, the printer was in the process of printing a multi-page document. About half way through printing one of the pages I heard a 'clack' type sound. The next page nor any subsequent attempt would feed into the printer.
Any idea what is wrong and if it is worth fixing?
    Thank you.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus does not feed paper

HP Officejet 6500A Plus, Mac OS X 10.6.8,The printer does not feed paper.  Then gives the message that 'printer is out of paper'.  I have done all of the reset and cleaning procedures recommended on the HP web site.  That does not correct the problem when I do 'Print Status Report'.Observing through the front with a flashlight, the paper feed mechanism comes down on top of the paper stack, but the rollers do not feed paper.  Then the feed mechanism lifts up and the error message 'printer is out of paper' is displayed on the small screen on the printer. If a single sheet of paper is inserted deep into the printer so that it can be captured by the print rollers, then the printer produces a normal 'printer status report'.The problem appeared after printing some photos on official HP photo paper with new official HP cartridges. Advice? From:molybdenum

  • Officejet 6500 duplex printing paper jam

Every time I run duplex printing, paper stucks inside duplexing unit. It just gets smashed.
Is there a solution for that?

I have just bought an OfficeJet 6500 and am also having major problems if I try to use automatic duplex printing. The first side prints ok then waits a while to dry but when it tries to print the second side the printer jams every time. When I remove the duplexing unit the paper is always concertina'ed between the unit and the rollers inside the printer. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be really grateful! This is one of the features I was hoping to make use of.

  • My Officejet 6500 E710 will not accept an A4 paper size as default and keeps reverting to Letter

I bought a new OfficeJet 6500 E710. I use A4 size paper but for some reason it will either not accept the change from Letter (I change it in the Printer Preferences and the Print settings) presenting me with an error message "printer settings could not be saved" or in some cases it does change but when I print from Adobe Indesign it is reset to Letter. Adobe is also set to A4 as standard. My regional settings are for the Netherlands. Can anyone shed some light on this behaviour? BTW I have checked that the firmware on the printer is the latest. I have rebooted after setting the paper size. None of these have helped.

I had a problem like this where my X didnt wanna take my new monitor displays.. what I did was I backed up my conf and ran nvidia-xconfig to make a new .conf, then using sudo nvidia-settings i told it to go to the size i wanted and it just appended the file for me

  • Part for officejet 6500

I inherited a used officejet 6500 and need to get a part so the paper will feed properly. Remove duplexer if attached. There are some black plastic "fingers" pointing at a rod with wheels. One set of these "fingers" has broken (the pair on the right). Does anyone know where I can buy these "fingers"? Or do I have to go to a service center? Thanks

The service center or HP should sell them too I would think

  • My officejet 6500 has an error msg of jam/misfeed when there is none.

My officejet 6500 had some water fall onto it. Luckily some paper was piled on top and blocked most of it. But some of the water seeped in where the copier rollers are. I let it dry completely and nothing was affected, re: printing. About a week later, I put something heavy'ish on top, which might or might not be the problem too, just thought I'd mention it. After putting the heavy item on top, the printer came up with the error message that there was a jam or misfeed in the scan path. Trust me, there's no misfeed, and there is no jam. I suspect something happened in there to misalign it somehow, either due to the moisture or the weight (it was a heavy picture frame) on it for about an hour.
I have tried what I can to make this go away. I miss being able to use the feeder to either scan multiple pages or to copy them. I can't use the copier at all, but I can still scan a page at a time, but it takes forever, and I have to quickly hit cancel, then scan before the error kicks back. It's tedious.
I don't want to lose the printer, but then again, it's not worth enough to hire someone to fix. Any ideas on how to fix or salvage?

A hard reset can resolve this issue. But I suggest that you do it under the supervision of an HP Tech over the phone. This way, if the issue is still unresolved, they can replace the printer.

  • OK to print iron-on transfer sheet w/HP Photosmart Plus B210 or HP Officejet 6500 E709Printer?

I have two color printers, but want to make sure it is SAFE to print an iron-on transfer using them.  I am not sure if they are laser or inkjet printers (kind of not the tech-y type!).  I don't want to melt the paper inside the printer and break my machine.  Which machine can I print my iron-on's with:
    HP OfficeJet 6500 E709 Series
    or
    HP Photosmart Plus B210 Series

    Hi,
I have done something similar with an inkjet printer in the past (with succesful results) but as I'm not familar with the exact transfer paper you're using I can't be sure that you'll get the same results.
They are both inkjet printers and there shouldn't be an issue printing iron-on's as long as the transfer paper is a standard size and feeds through the printer.

  • Officejet 6500 - can i choose tray to print to?

I purchased one of these today and the lady told me that I would be able to choose a print tray like the main bottom feed tray and the fax/scan feed area.  I haven't unboxed it yet because I was just doing a little research.  I read the manual and don't see how I can do this and I don't want to install the software or take it out of the box if it cannot.  I need to be able to have 1 type of paper in one area (like shipping lables) and normal printer paper in the other.
Can anyone confirm if this is part the the officejet 6500 wireless functionality?  Thanks!

Choosing a tray to print to is a function of any computer and not on the actual program of the Printer.
It is in the print settings.  When you click on File, then Print, it should give you options to choose which tray you would like to print from.  Before you take my advise, wait for others to reply.  I don't want to be wrong and have you open the box, just to turn out my answer was wrong.

  • NEW HP OfficeJet 6500 - Takes FOREVER to make a copy

I have a brand new (4 weeks) OfficeJet 6500 - setup went fine - printer is visible and operates via USB and hardwire to the network.  It prints, scans and faxes just fine.  But SOMETIMES (I haven't found a pattern) - making a copy (either with sheet feed or off the glass) will take forever.  I usually give up after 5-10 minutes of waiting and power cycle the printer.    This has happened a couple times - so it's not an isolated issue.
When a copy is initiated, the printer loads paper like it's going to print - also the scanner can be heard moving into position - at which point, the process will stop.   The screen is displaying an animated message (something like "please stand by - preparing to copy").  In short, everything LOOKs like it's going to work - but the printer just seems to freeze up at that point.
I'm assuming that the problem is software - because everything else works as advertized.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @bo1923 ,
I read your post about your Officejet 6500 copying very slowly. I want to offer my own suggestion!
Power reset the printer and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in. • How do I print #12 envelopes with HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series printer?

When I try to print 4.75" x 11" (#12 envelopes) on my HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series printer, it gives an error msg. and will not print. Is there a work around for this, or do I have to use #10 size and make it do?
    Win XP pro, MS word.

You could try creating 'paper' the size of the #12 envelope, and try that possibly.

  • Troubles with HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z on Arch Linux

Recently, I have tried to use my printer after five months break. It used to run smoothly on Arch Linux with hplip. However, now, I have not managed to make it print properly with hplip again. This is my configuration, as seen from the CUPS web interface:
Driver: HP Officejet 6500 e710n-z hpijs, 3.12.11 (color, 2-sided printing)
        Connection: hp:/net/Officejet_6500_E710n-z?ip=192.168.1.4
After trying to print some test page, the jobs listing in the CUPS web interface showed me a error message "Filter failed". I deleted my .cups and .hplip directories in my home folder and reinstalled cups and hplip. The same symptoms appeared again after restarting and a fresh installation.

My Arch system is up-to-date. I heard that it might have become necessary to install the hplip-plugin somewhen in the last month for some HP printer models. If I understand the table at the bottom of http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo … 10n-z.html correctly, then the hplip-plugin is neither required nor available for my printer model. I tested also installing it from AUR, just because it was worth a try (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hplip-plugin/), but this made matters worse, having my printer to madly produce almost-empty paper with some crap characters at each page top. As expected, the hplip-plugin was a dead-end, and I uninstalled it to continue some experimentation with printing test pages (all on the same page, mind the trees!). Resuming the printer, CUPS prints

Indeed, some errors show up. I find it strange that ghostscript is called with a parameter -sDeviceModel="HP Color LaserJet 2600n" -dDuplex=true even though I clearly have an inkjet printer and no laser printer – and also specified the correct printer model. Also later, I can see the two lines

which to the best of my knowledge indicates some internal mess. Raising the debug level in cups.conf did not tell me anything new.
Notably, using the hpcups driver at least makes the printer print pages properly, but the wonderful (mind the trees) duplex-mode seems to only be available when using hpijs when selecting the PPD file in the add printer wizard. That is why I want to stay with the driver mentioned above.
The trouble for me is that the printing pipeline is so complex and so many components are involved that I have no real good starting point to where exactly post bug reports. I would appreciate if some fellows with the same printer and the same errors could confirm my description. Or even point out how to get that organism to paint ink properly on the paper. Any ideas where to start? Or references to better resources regarding the combo of HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z and Arch? Is it just an regression bug and will be fixed? Is my system corrupted in some way? There is lots of open questions I don't quite feel able to answer all by myself. Any hints for troubleshooting appreciated!
    Edit:
After some more reading and troubleshooting, I have filed the following two bug reports at hplip:

    SCAN ISSUE SOLVED!!!!
I have an HP Photosmart 6500a Plus printer that is connected via USB to a less than 1 year old Dell XPS 8300 tower running Win 7 64bit Home Premium Edition.  The print function worked fine but scans would halt mid-way through the scan and eventually the software would indicate that it had lost connection with the scanner.
After EXTENSIVE testing, I determined that the problem was with the Dell tower and NOT THE PRINTER.  I hooked the printer up to a Dell Inspiron mni-tower running Vista and had NO PROBLEM scanning.  I hooked the printer up to a Gateway laptop running Win 7 Pro and had NO PROBLEM scanning.
On a hunch, I inserted a POWERED USB hub in between the Dell XPS 8300 tower and the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus and was rewarded with a, first time ever on the XPS 8300, complete and flawless scan.
I surmise that the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus was not getting the required voltage from the USB on the Dell XPS 8300 tower and that was causing the scan to fail.
    WOOHOO!
Been chasing this one for several months...

HP Officejet 6500 E709n All In One.   I am getting receipts for blocked calls using up an unnecessary sheet of paper.
These printouts also have a message noting: " Image on Fax Send Report is set to Off and an image of page 1 will appear here for faxes sent as Scan and Fax".
I would like to receiive receipts for fax sent but don't need a receipt for blocked faxes.
Also, on my cover sheet on faxes, I list how many pages are being sent  but when looking up help info., to figure out where to put the number of pages being faxed into the printer,  all I can find is info refering to the Menu Button" on printer.  I CAN'T FIND A BUTTON LABELED MENU ANYWHERE ON THE PRINTER/FAX MACHINE.  I have printed out the entire booklet on this printer and the first page of instructions is a picture of the printer/fax with labels typed and a line drawn to the button it is referring to.  No where does it say menu button ir point to one,
Please help me with the above and then help me to help myself thru written instructions by telling where or what is the Menu Button.
    Thaank you very much,

When trying to fax, I get "no answer"
and,, also  this response: "Image on Fax Send Report is set mto Off" > What does this mean?       Nowhere on the machine is there a button marked as Fax Send Report.  What do I do?            I have been unsuccessfully trying to fax a document  to Mexico for day6s., I dialed  "523767661779", then " 011523767661779".  and get only a  BUSY SIGNAL.     The main number there  is "52" [for the country., i.e., Mexico], with the possible prefix  international number "011" preceeding it...............followed by the area code & destination  number "3767661779".  No luck.  What to do?
