HP OFFICEJET 6500 Wireless Doesn't Work

I have new desktop with Windows 7 and cannot install wireless for this 6500 printer. Followed directions from CD and website and each time it locks up after I plug in USB cable. Says device is installed properly but locks up at configuring device right after that. Tried FOUR TIMES. Any help? PLEASE?

Oh, this must be brand new!  I was told that HP is not shipping Win7 or Snow Leopard CD's yet, thanks for setting me straight.
I assume you want to install the printer on your wireless network.  If so, do it from the front panel of the printer - Setup > Network > Wireless Network Wizard.
Once it is connected to the network that way, the software may be better able to see it and install properly.

I have an officejet 6500 wireless and it worked just fine - used it for pronting from Quickbooks.  Moved to new house. Because of new router had to reinstall via install CD.  Install worked fine.  When printing checks from Quickbooks I now get a message that says the the printer does not support the font being requested - it used to...what's up with this?

Does this only happen when printing from Quickbooks? Have you tried adjusting the settings in QB's? The meesage you are receiving is saying that the font that QB's is wanting to use is not supported by the printer.
I've included a link to the Hp website that has some updates available for this printer that might help as well.

  • Hp officejet 6500 wireless doesn't scan to pdf and can't install driver

Purchased a new Windows 8.1 laptop (Dell) and using my old 6500 wireless printer but connected directly through USB.  I can scan from the printer control panel, but don't see an option to save the output as a pdf as was formerly the case with my Windows 7 computer.
There don't appear to be any  HP programs on my new laptop with which I can control the printer.  I downloaded the driver/software  from the HP site, but when I try to run the downloaded executable, it extracts the files but gets no further.
So there are 2 problems, but the first may be a result of the second.
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi,
Yes, Windows 8.1 comes with many generic drivers for printers and normally they only support basic print. Please download the following Software and Drivers and install to your Windows 8.1 (or 8) computer:

  • Officejet 6500 wireless doesn't print after computers wake up

Upgraded to Windows 7, but got a new integrated modem/router combo.  It's a Netgear DGND3300.
    My whole network is wireless.
I never had this issue with my 2Wire Home Portal 2701 modem/router combo.  It worked flawlessly and I mean flawlessly.
I have to reinstall my drivers for the printer and then it will work.  If we go to bed and and then try to print the next morning, it's like the printer info hangs in the spool.
I get the icon saying it's printing, no errors, but the printer just doesn't print!
So if I wirelessly delete the printer then reinstall it, it will print fine.
I can't figure out where the issue is.  Turning off the computer and turning it back on again doesn't seem to help.

    Good job on the  firmware.
Have you downloaded this patch for Win 7 upgrades?

The Blackberry is designed to be reset by removing the battery whilst the device is powered-on. Leave the battery out for a minute or 2.

How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work (on prior iPhones) before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)
I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!

  • Using HP Officejet 6110 and Officejet 6500 wireless issues

I have been using an HP Offciejet 6110 printer for a long time with an HP laptop running WINXP. I purchased a new HP laptop running WIN7.  The WIN7 laptop will print to the 6110 in color only and doesn't allow the HP Imagimg Director software to work.
I recently purchased a new HP Officejet 6500 wireless printer and set that up to run off the HP laptop with WIN7 using the full software install.  That seems to be working OK.
I then setup theold  XP laptop using only the drivers for the Officejet 6500 so I could still use the Officejet 6110 from that computer and all the scanning and other features of the HP Imageing Director software.   But it appears that the Officejet 6500 drivers have scewed up the Officejet 6110 software drivers on the XP laptop. How do I get this computer back to using the 6110 as normal (which was very useful) but be able to use the 6500 as an optional printer without all the 6500 features?

    Hi dresdenron,
Thanks for clarifying the issue again. I was a bit confused.
How is the Officejet 6500 and Officejet 6110 setup on the Windows XP? (USB, Wireless)
Both models use completely different software. So there shouldn't be any interference even if the full software had been installed for the Officejet 6500. If both printers are connected by a USB cable, then the Officejet 6500 might have taken over the port and therefore causing the scan not to work.
What happens when you try to scan? (error message)
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the Officejet 6110. This way it will be recognized on the new port assigned.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
The Officejet 6110 is a Windows Update for Windows 7. There is no HP Imaging Director software available to run on Windows 7. Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection.
Please provide in detail the results. If I missed anything, just let me know.

  • HP Officejet 6500 Wireless/Curled corner with Ink blotch

I am printing on 5.83" x 8.27" cardstock in color.  The left hand top corner of nearly every page is turned up with a round ink blotch that smears if you touch it.   I have printed about 100 of these on new color ink cartridges and it is getting worse to the point that nearly every page now has this issue.  I have run the "clean printhead' function on the tools menu but that doesn't help.  Any suggestions?

    Hello blueeyes14,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I see you are running into some print quality issues when attempting to print on 5.83" x 8.27" card stock to your HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Printer. After taking a look at the Supported Card Sizes, the card stock you are using is not supported. With that being said, there could be a few factors that are causing the issue you are experiencing:
    1. The card stock may be to thick, so the ink is not able to properly dry before it finishes the print causing the blotch and curl. (I understand you may have had successful prints with that cardstock size, that does not mean it is supported)
    2. I notice you have printed 100+ of these, please keep in mind if the printer is running for long periods of time this could cause it to overheat and not work properly.
Can you please let me know what the weight of the card stock is you are using?
I will watch for your reply.
    Thanks,
    HevnLgh

  • HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Scaning black lines on copies

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Scaning black lines on copies

Hello Dadbowling, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing lines in your copies.  I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend following the steps in this document on Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans.

HP Officejet 6500 wireless has stopped printing black ink.  Followed all troubleshooting steps to no avail. Prints colors but black is either very faint or not present

    Welcome to the forums Irgoodspeed
I saw your post about your Oj 6500 Wireless no longer printing in black ink. I noticed you have already changed the cartridge which did not help.
I would recommend following this troubleshooting guide:

  • Apple macbook air compatibility with HP Officejet 6500 Wireless

    Two questions
    1. If I buy a new current model  MacBook Air, will it work with my HP Officejet 6500 Wireless printer?
    2. Sometimes when I power up the printer, it can take as long as five minutes to register "ready." Why the erratic time to go online?
    Thanks
    TT95

Thanks for your swift reply to the Apple/HP compatibility question.  Trust it will work when I buy MacBook Air. The HP app available at iTunes store helped us make our older Apple IPad print compatible even though the HP 6500 Wireless is not equipped with AirPrint.
Regarding slowness of HP 6500 to reach "Ready" stage for printing. This is a printer for home use, so it not on a network. It always eventually prints.
    Your help is much appreciated.
