HP Officejet Ppro 8630 e-all-in-one 2nd Tray doesn't function properly.

I originally purchased this printer (today in fact) because it seemed better to have one machine instead of three in the office and I also required the 2nd tray. After getting it back to the office, setting it up, going through everything, I found out that the 2nd tray is essentially useless.  Previous (and hopefully future) models of this line, came with a dual driver that allowed the trays to function seperate from each other. This current model uses the second tray essestially as storage. You can not automatically print from one tray or the other. You can only have a default tray and/or a locked tray. I would definately NOT recommend this product to anyone that requires seperate printing capability..

Hi TTarcon, I am very sorry for the confusion, but I would like to help clear some things up. The second tray will only support plain paper yes, but the first tray can be used for plain paper, photo paper, envelopes and cards. You can dictate which tray you want to print to when you select a print job. Image source: Specifications page.  You could load the first tray with one paper type and print to it when you want to print on that particular paper type.  I found the following information in the user guide; Working with trays When using more than one tray, you can make use of the tray features provided and change the settings to achieve a better experience. By default, the printer draws paper from Tray 1. If Tray 1 is empty and Tray 2 is installed and contains paper, the printer will draw paper from Tray 2. You can change the behaviors using the following features:● Default Tray: Set the default tray from which the printer draws paper first.●Tray Lock: Lock a tray to prevent it from accidental use; for example, when you have loaded special paper (such as letterhead or preprinted paper). The printer will not use a locked tray even when the other tray is empty. NOTE: For better experience, load only one type of paper in a tray.NOTE: Tray 2 supports only plain paper. To achieve this Follow these steps Have paper loaded in both trays and use paper from one tray if the other tray is empty.● Load paper in both trays. For more information, see Load paper on page 23.● Turn off tray lock. Have paper loaded in both trays and use paper from one of the trays first.● Load paper in both trays.● Set the desired tray as the default tray. Be able to choose from plain paper and another paper type that you use occasionally. NOTE: For better experience, load only one type of paper in a tray.● Load special paper in main input tray and plain paper in Tray 2.● Lock the main input tray and set Tray 2 as the default tray. To change tray settingsNOTE: You can also change the tray settings from the printer software or EWS.To access EWS and the printer software, see Embedded web server on page 118 and Open the HPprinter software (Windows) on page 37.1. Make sure the printer is turned on.2. Make sure you have turned on automatic selection of paper source.3. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and touchSetup.4. Touch Tray Setup, touch Default Tray or Tray Lock, and then select the appropriate option.  To turn on automatic selection of tray or paper source (Windows) 1. Depending on your operating system, do one of the following:● Windows 8: On the Start screen, click Control Panel, click View devices and printers; right click the printer icon, and then click Printing preferences.● Windows 7: Click Start, click Devices and Printers; right-click the printer icon, click Printing preferences, and then select your printer name.● Windows Vista and Windows XP: Click Start, click Printers or Printers and Faxes; right-click the printer icon, click Printing preferences.2. On the Printing preferences tab, click the Paper/Quality tab.3. Select Printer Auto Select from the Paper Source drop-down list in the Tray Selection area.4. Click OK twice to close the pages and accept changes. HP Officejet Pro 8630 user guide.  I truly hope you can now go from less than satisfied to loving your HP Printer  Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. • Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Ink Cartridge Problem Message

Have/will soon "had" instant ink cartridge service.  Printer did not recognize that the black ink was out so I didnt get a black ink cartridge.  Couldnt wait for the mail service, so purchased all new HP cartridges and installed.
"Ink Cartridge Problem" Message came up and is now stuck in the machine, can't clear it.  The machine will not recognize any of the 4 brand new HP inks; that menu item has little red X for each cartridge and each one shows empty.....
Removed all cartridges, cleaned all contacts, unplugged machine, did a "reset" on the menu via HP phone technician.....nope, nada, nothing.
Did all above SEVERAL times.   Called HP back..."40 minutes wait time" .. wth...
Anything else?  Does HP have to reset my machine to "recognize" regular cartridges???
Thoughts, suggestions?  (Besides don't buy HP again....I will not....I should know better by now!)
    Thanks all.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 premier all-in-one printer

The above printer is 1 1/2 years old and it has stopped printing.  When the printing became light, I installed new print cartridges less than a week ago.  Now, after five days, the printer is consistently cleaning the print heads and aligning the print heads and my documents are not being printed.  And, what is most frustrating, during all the cleaning and aligning, all of my new ink is gone and I'm receiving a message replace ink cartridges.
Re: Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

    Well,
to this is say, "get used to it", or throw it away.  Many, Many, Many people have had trouble with this printer.
The following are common and frustrating issues that this printer exhibits on a regular basis:
    1.  Constant Self-Checking (usually every 20-30 pages of print)
    2. Very persistant Printhead Cleaning/Checking, (Every startup and after about 20-30 pages printed).
    3. Worn-out printheads (usually within 1,100 to 1,500 pages printed).
    4. Paper mis-feeds.
    5. Paper jams.
    6. Nearly impossible to use once the printer reports ink-depletion.
    7. Nearly impossible to use CIS Ink for larger print jobs.
    8. Ink and printheads "expire" regardless of when they are placed into service. (get a deal on ink or printheads last year?  Too bad, the warranty is already expired, most likely).
In short, this printer is the most EXPENSIVE printer I've ever owned, and the most frustrating to use.
I have just over 2,000 pages of regular text printed matter with very little color, and have already gone through 4 sets of ink, and 2 sets of PrintHeads.
Although it's true that you can leave the unit on, and let it go into standby, you should NOT be punished with constant and time-consuming "self-checking" everytime it's turned on, or prints a handful of pages, BUT, it does NOT appear that HP will be standing behind this printer disaster.  AND, to make things worse, they've gone on to redesign it, giving it a different look, and so there are about 6 different models/versions of the OfficeJet Pro 8500.
Anyone needing a reliable print/fax/scan/copy solution should look beyond this printer, because it will leave you wanting more, and spending more than you ever imagined you would have to on a late model printer.ro
What is going on?  Why does it just automatically clean and align?  I also get alignment failed messages.  Any suggestiions?

    rammerjammer,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, your feedback is very important and I want to do my best to help.  To answer what is going on, since the printing became light, started cleaning itself constantly, and fails the alignment, the printhead was damaged.  Click here to see and use the Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges, Printheads, and Related Supplies.  There are many ways to contact HP.  The number to call is 1-800-474-6836 for HP and Compaq products for Home & Home Office use.  If you no longer have a warranty with the printer you can still use the warranty that comes with the printhead or ink cartridges.
If you have a carepack with the printer that extended the one year warranty then the troubleshooting will be covered along with the printer if the printer needs replacing.  Check product warranty here, see HP Out of Warranty Support Options for Select HP Consumer Printers here.
To order a new printhead you can go to HP Sure Supply and enter your printer or go to the HP Parts Store and order the printhead by part number C4900A for the Black and yellow and part number C4901A for the Cyan Magenta.  These printheads go by region also so be sure you are using the right region, these were found using the United States region.
The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One printer has separated the ink cartridges from the printheads.  The ink cartridges are on the lower left and the removable print heads are on the carriage inside the printer.  The printer goes through a calibration process when turned on that will use ink.  Leave the printer on and let it go into stand by mode.  This type of printer is energy star efficient and made to calibrate on start up and be left on.  Allow the printer to clean or calibrate only if the printer must.  If it starts cleaning a lot it may be time to do a little maintenance to the printer (recommend once a month for maintenance).  Please see the following links for further details.

The printer has a duty cycle of 7.5k page/month.  The XL cartridges have a composite page yield of 1.4k pages with about a third of the black ink left over.  To me it would seem that the printhead should last somewhere in between.  This printer was designed to save money on ink compared to the rest of the officejets.  I hate that it has been causing so much trouble, hopefully the information I provided will help.

  • Why can't I print to my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus All-in-One from my wired PC?

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus All-in-One on my network.  My router is wireless, which several of my devices (laptops, ipads, etc.) use to get an internet connection, but I have one desktop PC that is actually wired to the router via ethernet cable.  For some reason, when I attempt to print to the 8500 from the wired PC, the doc just sits in the que, eventally registering as an 'error'. But all of my wirelss devices can print to it just fine.
Oddly, this is somewhat of an intermittent issue, as I have printed successfully from this PC before, but I can't right now.  I'll also throw this in: I have at times, plugged an ethernet cable into my wireless-capable laptop and had the same issue.  But then I just unplug the calbe, reboot, and turn on wireless, and can print without any issues ... so I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the PC is wired to the router.
Don't know if this has anytthing to do with it, but my wireless network is called 'FrogNet', but my wired PC doesn't see 'FrogNet' like all my wireless devices do.  It just indicates that this is part of a generic network.   Ideas?  (All computers run Win7.)

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Red color fads on 4th copy

I have an HP HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, and am trying to print 75 copies of a program for our event. After the first 5-6 pages the RED in my program starts to turn magenta. I have brand new HP ink, and am printing on HP Color Injet Paper. I have renectly replaced the Black/Yellow printhead (at least 6 months ago). At first when I cleaned the printheads, I could print 2 or 3 pages showing my RED color. Then turns back to magenta. When I received the test patterns after cleaning the print heads they are all perfect with no lines.
What is going on and how can I fix it?
    This question was solved.

    Hi TM1997,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500 Wireless that is not printing red properly, it keeps turning to magenta. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will definitely do my best to help you!
As I'm sure you saw, when replacing the black and yellow printhead, that there are two printheads in the Officejet 8500 and the second one controls the magenta and cyan. I would suggest that you first have a look through this Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues document. You can also manually clean your printhead with the steps in this 'The Following Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged' or 'The Following Printhead has a Problem... document.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - printer head?

I posted this elsewhere, but I think I posted it on the wrong Forum so I am posting it here now. I hope I did not do anything to upset anyone. I am new to this area, please forgive my clumsiness.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer. I've had my printer since December 2009 and no problems. I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and had to go online to find the drivers that work for my printer. Windows 7 was not compatible with this printer.
Also recently, I am having a problem with what I think may be the black printer head, but when I run diagnostic on it everything comes back saying it is fine. However the problem still exist. When printing the black color will become faded in some areas and in some lines will not only almost totally fade out, but will almost look italic.
Can you tell me if this is the printer head and does it need replacing or is there another problem?
    SondraS

Are you using genuine HP cartridges and not refilled or third-party cartridges?
Print the Print Quality Diagnostic page from the setup menu/print report/ on the printer's front panel
Are there any quality issues with this page?

Product Name: HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
    OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
I noticed the problem: After I scanned a medical card that was 80% cyan.
Problem: The problem persists when scanning/copying using the ADF or using the scanner glass bed.
Only occurs during color scanning or copying.  I can print a file from my laptop or home pc with no issues, as long as the color file did NOT come from my printer.
If I had scanned the small O'Riley's note in black & white there would have been no streaking.

    Hi @Veritasabt,
I see that you are having issues scanning and copying in color from the glass and the ADF. Thank you for providing the screen shot. I can help you out today.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Update the printer's firmware. HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware.
Try scanning again to see if you have the same results.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a printer assistant

    Hi!
So, I replaced an HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Plus with an HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911. Subsequently the HP Printer Assistant desktop shortcut disappeared from my computer --  and apparently from the computer entirely because it eludes searches as well. So multiple times (like, 20 times) I have removed and reinstalled the printer on this computer because sometimes -- not every time, infuriatingly -- immediately after installing the printer from the online driver, the Printer Assistant opens -- but there doesn't appear to be a way create a desktop shortcut for it. As soon as I close it, it's gone forever, and it's just not practical to have the Printer Assistant open all the time. The next time I want to scan something wirelessly, I have to go through the process again. It's driving me insane.
Is there any way to download just the HP printer assistant software, or some sneaky way to create a shortcut for it? It's the only efficient way for me to interact with the printer for scanning (the bulk of the printer's usefulness) at my home office, and if I cannot get it to work consistently, this will be the last HP product I buy.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Problems printing to HP officejet 6500A plus e-All-in-one printer e710n

    Hi,
I am struggling to print to my " HP officejet 6500A plus e-All-in-one printer e710n". According to the setup network test (Wireless network test report), everything is successful (status "PASS" for all fields).  I also checked that the IP configured is the same as the IP displayed on the printer when i push the wireless button (updated via "Update IP address").
I have a laptops as well as netbooks connected to the wireless network. All these devices could previously print, however now none of them can. When i run the diagnostics (both the standard trouble shooter, as well as the one from microsoft when clicking on the fixit option), no problems are detected. When checking the device manager, i can see no conflicts.
When i open the printer control panel and click on "Customize your printer" and then go to "Ports" and click on  the "configure port" option, i get an error "An error occurred during port configuration. Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000007b).".
    Please assist with any suggestions.

I was able to resolve the problem.
I reinstalled the printer on one of my other laptops (this might have cleared up an error on the printer). I think the true problem is related to the fact that we left the printer on, we've started switching it off when not in use. Even though it goes into sleep mode, it seems to cause problems over time if not switched off on the printer itself.
The basics i did was check the network connection, printed a status of the network connectivity (you can do that from your control panel on the printer). If the network looks good, then try leaving your printer off for an hour or so, if that doesn't work, try reinstalling the printer on your device and start switching it off after use. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what i've been doing and haven't had a problem since.
It was a strange problem, in some cases i wasn't able to see the printer from devices that previously could, when the devices that could see the printer tried to print, it would print okay for a few pages and then start printing garbage, followed by failing completely and cancelling the print. When this happened there would be an error on the device saying it cannot connect to the printer, even though it could at the start of print.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - E710n wireless print and web app problem

We have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-all-in-one Printer - E710n and run Windows 7 on our laptop.
I have run the wirelss setup wizard and have successfully connected the printer to the router, and both the laptop and printer are on the same network and have identical SSID.
However, we can not send any prints the printer wirelessly. We have to hook it up to the USB to do so. We are also unable to access our web apps; pressing the app button on the printer control panel brings up the following:
"Connection error. The printer was unable to connect to the server. Check your internet connection and try again."
I have run through the suggested solutions under "A Network Connected Printer Cannot Access Print Apps, Web Services, or ePrint" in the customer care help centre which didn't work, although when I tried to enter the IP address under IPv4 into the browser address bar it timed out. I tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor, but it returns a result that suggests everything is fine.

  • HP Instant Ink for HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One

I just purchased a new HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer and was setting up HP Connected, etc. I came across HP's new service for ink called HP Instant Ink and was immediately sold. I went to go and sign up and the prompt told me that my printer was no eligible/supported. Now, I am more than willing to pay HP a monthly fee to be a part of this service and I just bought a state-of-the-art printer to do just that.
Thanks to the "Ask HP Experts" forum on printers, I thought this would be the most opportune time to get this addressed. I REALLY want my printer to be eligible in the HP Instank Ink Program and I know you guys can make it happen. I just switched from an Epson and I am really impressed with my new printer; but, if HP added my new printer to the eligibility list for Instank Ink I would be astounded.
Please add the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer to the Instank Ink program, I would totally pay the monthly fee for it. Thank you.

I was so disappointed to get to the part where I pay only to be told my new printer, the officejet pro 8600 all-in-one, was not eligiable. But why?

I really need to find an important fax confirmation and my fax log only shows the last 30 transactions.  Same with the call history.  Is there any way I can get more than the last 30 items.

    Hello @TheVillage,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're attempting to retrieve an old fax from your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer. Because this is a consumer level printer it does not store more than 30 faxes within the fax programming. Therefore, there is no way to retrieve that fax information. Going forward I would recommend configuring Fax to a Network Folder. This feature will allow you to receive faxes to a network folder on your computer and also print the faxes on the machine if you want to. If you ever misplace an important fax you can go into the network folder and manually print the faxes.
For additional information regarding Fax to Network Folder please click here. Please refer to pages 12-18 within the User Guide.
Should you require additional assistance with the Fax to Network Folder setup please let me know!
