HP Officejet Pro 8500 "phone off hook"

HP Officejet Pro 8500 panel shows "phone off hook" and faxes will not come in and it is on a dedicated phone line.  I can send out without any problem.  The telephone technician determined the problem is not with the phone service.

I need to send a fax and I can not do it
Please what can Ido to fix it.

  • "Phone off-hook" HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless, Product CB023A

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer/fax/copier all in one.
The message "phone off-hook" appears on my display.
I ran the Fax Test and received a PASS for all results.
A few minutes later, a message appeared on the printer/fax display: "Turn power off, then on again". I did so.
This message, "Turn power off, then on again" continues to repeat and after I turn power off then on, the "phone off-hook" displays again. It is an endless loop of receiving these two messages.
    I also did the following:
    1. Unplugged the telephone fax line from LINE of the Officejet Pro.
    2. Unplugged the power cord to the printer.
    3. Replugged the power cord to the printer.
    4. Powered up the printer
    5. After powering up, the message, "phone off-hook" reappears.
    I ran the fax test
    Run Fax Test:
    1. select Tools from HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless display panel.
    2. Select Run Fax Test
    Results:
    Fax Hardware Test ........................................................ PASS
Fax Connected to Active Telephone Wall Jack ......... PASS
Phone Cord Connected to Correct Port on Fax ........ PASS
Using Correct Type of Phone Cord with Fax ............. PASS
    Dial Tone Detection ....................................................... PASS
Fax Line Condition Test ................................................ PASS
    3. The message still appears.
My printer description is as follows:
    - Model No. : A909G (look inside of the ink access door); Regulatory Model No. : SNPRC-0703-02
    - Product No. : CB023A
    - Serial No. CN0737R2DH
Is the printer defective? What should I do to correct this problem?
    Thanks,

    Hello ArtLaw,
If you have followed all the troubleshooting steps outlined in this troubleshooting article then the only other solution is to have the printer serviced as it may be a printer hardware issue.

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8500 PRINTER - new printhead installed - "checking device" won't shut off.

My  magenta  cartridge was not printing. All I got  on the printed sheets was red ,yellow and pink colors. I  replaced the magenta cartridge and the same thing happened. I then replaced to  ccyan cartridge with the same results.  I searched the tutotials and installed a new magenta/cyan printhead.
Now the "checking device" message  won't go off. After about an hour I tried to turn the printer off and received the message that  the mechanical operations coud not be turned off.
After another hour I just unplugged the printer.

    Hello kenishal,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear that the Officejet Pro 8500 is not printing its colors correctly, usually this type of issue is resolved by replacing the printhead. Hopefully we can get the printer past "checking device" to see if it has resolved the problem.
You can try removing and installing the printheads and the cartridges again, here is a walk through guide: 'Initializing' Displays on the All-in-One for Longer Than Expected During Setup.
If that helps get the printer to finish "checking device" and you are still having the missing or incorrect color issue, take a look through this support page: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality.
Let me know if those suggestions have helped.

  • Blue screen of death error on HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless - HELP

    Hi all
I have a officejet pro 8500, used (rarely) in a home office environment, probably done no more than 1000 pages total. Turned it on today to print something, powers up ok with no errors, sounds normal, but when sending something to print I get a very odd error - the LCD display goes blue and displays a white power button symbol (in very low resolution) with the error code B8711D7C below it. This is on the screen for a couple of seconds before a white screen with "Turn power off then on again" message. So I hit the power button to turn off (which it does) but restarts automatically. After rebooting it comes up with the "improper shutdown" message and it's back to the main screen. This happens every time a print is sent. However, copying works. I guess the next thing to do is to hook another pc up to the printer or remove/re-install drivers, but I'd really like to know what this error code is...any suggestions?
    Many thanks

I have same printer and have the same error code b8711d7c. I almost exactly the same, I hardly use the the printer, less than once a week. Did you manage to solve this ?

  • Scanning to Computer, HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All in one Printer A909g

I am unable to scan to computer with Win 8.1 using my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless all in one Printer A909g.  I can scan to email.  The system says my drivers and software are up to date.  When trying to scan to computer all I get is a blank scan file with no scan number (Scan_Doc0054) as I used to with Vista.  In Vista I was able to drive the whole process from my computer.  When scanning to email now I have to drive it from my printer as opposed to the computer.
I restarted an old computer running Vista and the 'scan to computer' function is operational.  As far as I am aware there are no other functional problems with the printer.
Any help would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi John046,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a won't let computer boot up

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series connected to my HP computer running Windows XP Home. It was
working perfectly. Now it won't let the computer boot while it's connected to the computer. I can unplug the
USB cable from the computer and it boots fine. I can then plug the USB back in and the printer prints fine. I
ruled out bad USB ports as everything else USB works fine in the same ports. I put a brand new cable on and
had same results. I rebooted the printer and computer, with same results. I uninstalled the printer and drivers and
reintsalled with same results. Computer freezes at the screen where it askes you to use the up and down arrows
to select OS or wait for it to count down to 0. With printer unplugged it boots perfectly. This just started about
4 days ago. New printer. HP Support was at a loss when I did the live chat. Can anyone help?
Message Edited by ComSource on 06-15-2009 07:14 AM

    Hi,
The problem seems to lie in the installer, which has an unusual bad behaviour.  The installer puts the 8500 a909a in the list of USB  bootable devices.  (Not good!!!)
When the printer is disconnected it isn't a problem.  When the printer is connected the computer tries to boot from the printer and the computer hangs.
When I found the printer in the BIOS list of USB bootable devices I DISABLED that item in that list. Then it booted normally.
But now the BIOS takes an extra 30 seconds or so but boot up seems to be preceeding normally.
The guys on the CHAT and PHONE lines didn't even imagine the installer might be a problem so their advice was useless. They were blaming the computer.  More importanly, they didn't have a way to escalate the problem. They  had no capacity to respond in a flexible manner. It was like dealing with unhelpful staff in the county clerk's office.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Premier - only one printhead is displayed in 'Printheads Health' window

I changed the black/yellow printhead today in my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier printer.  When I closed the lid, the printer did its housekeeping thing, clicking away while it aligned heads, etc, and printed out a diagnostic sheet that looked terrific.
So I wanted to see what the HP Utility would report as the health of both printheads now.  Only the Cyan/Magenta printhead health was displayed, both before I changed the printhead and now after I changed the printhead.  The utility reported the Cyan/Magenta printhead was in GOOD condition, along with a green button.
But there was no image of the Black/Yellow printhead at all, so no button showing the health of the printhead that I just installed.
While I was installing the new printhead, I wiped off the gold contacts on the printer where the printhead's contacts would meet.  They were  clean.
Any suggestions aboutwy the software does not display the health of BOTH printheads?
My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8

    Hello garden-2009,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!

  • I have my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A connected to my Mac Book Pro on a Wireless network. It works and

I have my Hp Officejet Pro 8500 A connected to my MAc Book Pro which is running Lion OS on a wireless network.  It works just fine and prints and everything.  The problem is a "HP Utility" window that pops up on my screen and says it is "connecting to device" and lists my printer.  It just runs and runs and the entire thing is gray - meaning I can't close it, cancel it, or anything. When you try to click on it, the arrow becomes the color wheel of death.   It is driving me crazy.  I have gone through settings, I have downloaded the latest drivers, I have looked in utilities, I have opened the printer folder and can't find where this thing is coming from or how to turn it off.  Please help.  And yes I have turned offf the computer and rebooted.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If you want more features, you can download and install the Full Featured software from the "Support & Drivers" button at the top of this page, otherwise, basic printing and scanning will work without it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will no longer print aqua.

My HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will no longer print aqua.  I just tried two new cartridges and when I clean the heads, no aqua prints.  I get no error messages however.
One possible issue: Recently I used a new HP aqua print cartridge (940XL version) that kept stalling my printer.  If my printer sat without printing for 10 minutes or more, the only way I could get it to print would be to shut down the printer and restart it.  Then, as long as I kept printing, it worked fine.  When I replaced the problematic print cartridge the printer works fine except now it won't print aqua.  Could the problematic cartridge damaged something?
I looked at the print head and it looks fine.  What is strange is that NO AQUA INK at all shows on the print head page.
    What should I do?  Help!

  • I can print to HP Officejet Pro 8500 - A909g but I can't scan. Won't recognize?

I have HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - A909g and a Lenovo T410 lap top.  I can print but my computer doesn't recognize my my 8500 to scan?  I have uninstall and reinstalled the software and still nothing!  I have checked with my wireless network Linksys and everything checks out.  They tell me that the problem is with my HP 8500.  I have hardwired to the printer and it scans okay.  What must I do to wirelessly scan?
    Thank you,  John

I had the same problems as reported in previous posts.  I reinstalled my entire system and upgraded to Windows 7, 64 bit, Ultimate.  Only the priint driver would install from the Full Feature Drivers option at HP Support.
Uninstall/install print driver to no avail.
     Turn printer/router/computer off/on.
Download full feature drivers from HP website. (Only print driver was downloaded.)
HP diagnostic utilities did not discover a problem.
I believe the problem had to do with the drivers accessed via the  HP Support site.  I downloaded from the following location:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02073861&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/cc...
Ran the Install Wizard from there and the printer/fax/scan tests.  Passed all.  All drivers are now installed as is the HP Solution Center.
Glad to finally be up and running!!!!

  • Epson Workforce 500 and HP  OfficeJet Pro 8500 - "Printer Offline"

This week I downloaded an Epson printer driver update from Apple's Software Update. I use an Epson Workforce 500 with my Mac Mini computer at my office. Since installing Snow Leopard originally I had experienced no problems with the printer but assumed that if Apple was telling me to install a driver update, I should do so. Big mistake!
After installing the driver update I was unable to print anything. When attempting to print a page from Safari or MIcrosoft Word, everything initially seemed ok, until I saw my printer icon bouncing in the Dock with a yellow symbol indicating "Printer Offline." After searching the Apple site and various discussion boards I spent an entire afternoon attempting all of the recommended fixes with no results. Since I cannot operate my business without a printer, I decided to simply purchase a new printer hoping that this was simply an Epson problem.
I am now the proud owner of an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One. Unfortunately I am still suffering from the "Printer Offline" message whenever I attempt to print anything. After spending another afternoon on the phone with a tech support person from HP, I am still unable to print. I have done all of the following:
Disconnected and reconnected all cables between the computer and the printer.
Switched the USB cable to a different USB port on the computer.
Restarted the computer and the printer.
Unplugged and replugged the computer to reset it.
Checked to confirm that the printer does show up under USB on the System Profiler.
Deleted any old print jobs in the print queue and made certain that the printer was not in pause mode.
Tried to print from various programs with the same result.
Although this printer does appear in the printer list, deleted it and then added it again under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
Uninstalled the HP printer driver, restarted the computer, downloaded HP's latest driver for this computer from their website under the instruction of HP's tech support person and reinstalled this driver and again performing all of the above.
    Repaired disk permissions several times.
Reset the printing system under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
I have been unable to find any further possible fixes in any of the discussion boards either on the Apple or the HP site. After doing everything listed here the HP tech support person felt that the problem must be with Apple rather than HP since the problem developed initially after the Epson printer update and then occurred with both the Epson and the HP printers.
I have an appointment later today with an Apple Genius at my local Apple store to see if I can get any advice. Any suggestions from anyone on this board would be greatly appreciated since I do need my printer to carry on in my business. At this point I am desperate to the point of considering the replacement of my computer but am hesitant to do so suspecting that the new models should be released soon.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try downloading and installing the 10.6.1 combo update. It's OK to do this even though you are already running 10.6.1. One of the "fixes" .. "some printer compatibility drivers not appearing properly in the add printer browser"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930
Make sure and repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Always make sure your Mac has sufficient disk space available.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Crashes My Internet

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g printer connected through a Netgear WNDR3400v2 router which is then shared through 3 computers all running Windows 7 Home Premium, in fact they are all identical. Now for the problem it seems that every time I turn on my printer, it seems to crash the internet, which is fine if your printing stuff offline, but when your trying to print stuff from the internet it is an issue. Before this point, it was nothing besides having to reinstall the printer periodically, although before it started crashing the internet it seemed that I had to reinstall the printer every time I wanted to print something.
I first noticed it about 2 weeks ago, and just brushed it off at first, I thought that it was just a minor glitch, and it would work itself out, but apparently I was wrong. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
If more information is required, please feel free to ask, so I can solve this problem.

I was able to resolve this by assigning a static IP to the printer.
Turn on the printer and have it connect to the wireless network, where it will find an IP address.
After it is on the network
From the front panel of the printer, go Tools (the wrench icon)
    Select Network
    Select Advanced Setup
    Select IP Settings
    Select Manual
Select all the settings as they are.  Record the IP address that it has been assigned
Log into the router admin screen http://routerlogin.net
    Click on the Advanced Tab
Under the Settings button, select Lan Setup
    Under Address Reservation, click Add
All the devices on your network will be shown.  Select the one with the IP of the printer.
    Hit Add
You may need to go back to the Basic Tab, Select Internet, and then select Test, just to re-establish the internet connection if it got lost at the beginning
