HP Officejet Pro 8600 and the 950XL black replacement cartridge

The ink cartridge I bought and installed is still bringing up the "Depleted ink cartridges must be replace to resume printing" message.  What do I do?

If the cartridge is a third party refill/reman I would suggest returning it for a refund and replacing it with a genuine HP.

  • I cannot "scan to computer" with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g ) - The option has been enabled

I cannot "Scan to Computer" with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g - The option has been enable in the HP Utility - but I receive a communication error message  - I'm connected to the computer using a Linksys Wireless Router and I am using OS X 10.5.8 - I can print wirelesly and I can use Web Scan, so the connection is good.
How do I resolve the issue?

    petergole,
To make sure we aren't dealing with a software problem lets try to uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
    2. Highlight your device on the left pane
    3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
    4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
    5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Finally, use this guide to reinstall: http://goo.gl/Na4Qm

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600+ and Inkjet Printable BD-R

    Hello All,
I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600+ and bought some Inkjet Printable BD-R by HP. I can't figure out a way to print on these disks from the printer I have. I don't see how the disc can be pulled from the standard paper tray as that requires the flexibility of paper to make the bends along the normal path. Is there some secret door I can't find?
I really just bought the discs for the storage and discovered the inkjet capability after I bought them. So it's not a big deal, but I'd like to take advantage of this and overcome the hazard of my crappy handwriting on discs.  :^)

  • Officejet pro 8000 and the power and resume lights keep flashing

I have an officejet pro 8000 and the power and resume lights keep flashing. I initially had the problem when I put a new black ink cartridge in. Lately there was an error message on the computer saying pump stall error, which then culminated in a print head error. I have replaced the print head at an extra £40 I have replaced all the ink cartridges which say they are low even though I haven't been printing. Basically spent the cost of the printer again  AND I STILL CANT PRINT! I'm using a Mac with snow leopard and I have reset the printer list and installed the new software and drivers. I have tried connecting with USB and Ethernet. I have filled up the paper. I have taken out the duplex and given it all a blow through. reset the print heads - basically everything the support web pages told me to do.
I have to say this is the worse printer I have ever had from HP. I always buy HP because of the quality. I have to say I feel unless this problem is solved with out me spending more money on it I will have to buy something else - and not HP ever! oh and the warranty is out by less than 2 months!

    Welcome back burtf,
I am sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your Officejet 8500 showing a message for you to turn the printer off and on. I would recommend following the guide below for this issue.
    I hope it helps!

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Text Gray not Black - HP Utility Crashes - Hundreds of Ethernet Messages

I bought an HP OJP 8600 for home use, hoping for quality and speed, and little intervention on my part.  Using the printer from both an HP Windows 7 Laptop, and a MacBook Pro OS X 9.5, but mostly the MacBook Pro.
I recently started working ten hours a day and weekends at home.  I am printing a lot of letters for business and for work.
I've got a bit of color blindness toward pastel and light colors, so I always have my artist daughter double check my work when necessary.
Both of us were looking at a letter I received from a state agency and then looking at my reply letter from the 8600.  The letter from the agency had dark black, clear text.  By comparison my letter looked to have "thinner" text (even using the same font the agency selected) and the text in my letter is noticably gray by comparison.  I get the same results on both computers.
I double checked all the settings, made sure the print quality is "best" and I even use 98 brightness paper.
The "HP Utility" made by HP for the MacBook Pro is almost useless.  The HP Utility fills up my folders with CRASH reports, is always running, and the Activity Monitor always shows the "HP Utility" using some unexpected extra amount of CPU.
With the poor wireless radio on the OJP 8600 I finally shut it off, and connected the printer by ethernet to the router.   But while looking for computer performance problems I used a packet sniffer on the connection.  I found about 40 HP OJP 8600 messages a SECOND sending the same routine information over and over and over.
My warrenty is up in December.  Do I let it expire and junk the printer?  Or is there a fix for some of these problems?
I appreciate any suggestions, but please, tell me it is a suggestion if it is.  If you haven't tried it and found it to work please don't tell me "here is a solution."

    Hello @UThrewError ,
I have read your post as well as your post and thread history. I do have a suggestion for you, in regards to your "quality" issues with your print outs. I would suggest to you, to try the steps listed in this certain guide below to see if the steps help with the quality.
Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer
If they do not help at all, and to add to the history of issues you've experienced, I would next suggest calling HP technical support directly. My reason behind that would be, if the printer is coming up to the warranty end period, and you have had ongoing unresolved problems with the printer, and presently print quality troubles, it's best to have a technician hear about it. If they see fit an in-warranty replacement, they could make that happen with you before the warranty expires. I will leave their contact info below if you decide to call HP.

  • Hp officejet pro 8600 and macbookair

My HP officejet pro 8600 was picked up by my new MACbook air without a problem, however each time i go to print or scan it will not connect unless I power off and on the printer. Then it works fine until next time I go to print-- I have to do same thing?? Any thoughts

    Hi @sprtssurg,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see everytime you try to print and scan, you need to power off and on the HP Officejet Pro 8600. I notice you said your MacBook Air running the Yosemite 10.10 Operating system picked up the OJ 8600 right away, does this mean you did not install the full feature software and drivers or did you just install using the AirPrint Driver?
Leave me with the following information:
    1. What is the Exact model of HP OJ 8600 Printer are you using, as there are a few in the 8600 series?
    2. Do you get any error messages on the Mac, printer offline etc.?
    3. How is the printer connected, USB or Wireless?
I hope to hear from you soon, so we can begin troubleshooting.

  • Driver Issues with HP Officejet Pro 8600 and Windows 8

I have to reinstall the printer driver for my HP Office Jet Pro 8600 wireless printer each time I power up my laptop. I do not have any issues with this printer when using my PCs and my antroid tablet.  Once the driver is reinstalled I can print my documents however it becomes "offline" whenever I log off and then log back onto my laptop.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Shrn
I read your post about how your printer will disconnect and show offline on your laptop, each time the computer is restarted. As this only happens on your laptop, the problem could be with a firewall running on your computer.
I would suggest checking your firewall settings and ensure you're allowing the printer to connect within the firewall.
This link may help: How to Edit Firewall Settings
You could also try running the Print and Scan Doctor when you restart your computer to see if this tool will pick up the printer on the network and connect it to your computer again.
Another option, would be to try a Clean Boot, which will turn off all Start Up Programs on your laptop to see if another program could be blocking the printer from connecting to it during a restart. Make sure to go back and enable the programs again after you have tested this out.
Let me know your findings and what happens!

    Welcome to the HP Forum.
The printer spooler service may be in a tangle on your computer.
One method to get to the service:
Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services >
Click on "Name" to sort by this column >
Scroll down and look for Print spooler > Highlight Print Spooler >
    Click Restart the service
After you do that, Restart / Reboot the computer and log in.

'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print
Includes XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac OS 10.4 through 10.7, Mac Mountain Lion and Mavericks
Includes instructions for restarting the spooler service
If all else fails, you could reinstall the Full Feature Printer software for the printer.  Ask if you need some help on how to do this.

    ePrint:
ePrint is not directly related to your computer's spoolsv service although if there are stuck jobs in the queue then ePrint jobs may be disrupted in some manner.
You can try logging into your HP Connected account >
Check under tab Devices for your printer >
If the printer is listed, you can "remove" it and then "Add a Device" to put it back in place.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 and OSX 10.9 Mavericks

Am not able to duplex print.  The duplex print accessory is properly installed.  I have tried opening the System Preferences and going to Print & Fax.  I have opened the print queue and clicked on Printer Setup, but then there is no Driver tab.  Where do I go from here?

Hi. In case there is some confusion after installing the HP Installer software, first check with the application "Text Edit" to see if when you select print from there you are presented with the "Two-Sided" check box as an option. If so, then you should be OK for duplex.
However if you want to have access to the full list of HP Options including Duplex in your print queue, then try the following:
    1. Go to "System Preferences", select "Printers & Scanners".
    2. Press "+" to add a new printer.  Select the Officejet 8600, but make sure in the last selection box "Use:" you change it from "Airprint" to "HP Officejet 8600". Then press "Add".
    4. Once you do that your new printer should appear in the list. I suggest you right click it and make it your default printer.
Now if you select your new printer and select "Open Print Queue", then select "Settings", you should be presented with two additional tabs you did not have before - "Options" which includes HP Two-Sided Printing and "Utility" which gives you access to the HP Printer Utility.
    5. If all is OK, then just clean up your list of printers by removing your old HP Officejet 8600 printer from your list of printers in "Printers & Scanners" by selecting it from the list and pressing "'-".   Do NOT remove the Officejet 8600 (Fax) from the list.
    Hope that works for you.
