Hp officejet pro 8600 connected wirelessly but not recognized

I have an hp officejet 8600 n911a which is connected to my wireless internet. I have run wireless network test results and printer status reports which both show connected. when you touch the internet icon it shows connected also with an ip address. However it will not connect to my computer, ipod, ipad, or any other device to print. The product software will not even ping the device to connect to the printer. It is like it will accept an incoming connection from my router but not send out a connection signal or recieve a signal to print on the same wireless connection. I have verified that it is set up on the same internet connection but the device is not recognized and when I type in the ip address in the address bar of chrome or explorer it says page cannot be opened. However I can email wirelessly to my printer to eprint by using the email given to me by my printer. I am very confused. Any help would be great.

With the network does the 5Ghz wirless have a different name to the 2Ghz network?
If they have the same network name then you should change the ssids to be different so then you can tell which networks its on.
From what you have told me it sounds like a 5Ghz 2 Ghz mismatch

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 connects wireless, but no connection on other web services

I installed my new OfficeJet 8600 to work on wireless network and enabled and tested eprinting and all was well.  Every time we lost power the printer would forget the network and I would have to re-setup the wireless connection.  I then folled the directions from the HP website to manually set the IP address on the printer, shut down printer and router, restarted routher and then restarted printer.  I now connect to the wireless network and can print.  HP diagnostics from my computer says connected and on-line.  The e-print box had a red x and said not connected.  I went to the printer control panel and it shows connected for the wireless, but not for the e-printing - menu says not connected.  Even the apps button says not connected, yet I am connected according to the wireless.  Any ideas?

Well, the problem has been resolved by uninstalling the software and reinstalling the latest version from HP.
The only reason I didn't try this in the first place was because many of the comments I've seen on this issue before stated they had already tried that and it didn't work. So I saw no reason to waste my time trying something that would be time-consuming with little likelihood of success. However, the printer in question was still under warranty, so i was able to contact HP directly and that's what they ultimately told me to do. I was online with them for nearly 90 minutes trying other things first, but this is what ultimately worked.
If you decide to try this yourself, I'd suggest you be sure to completely uninstall the current version first. The tech. I chatted wtih told me it wouldn't be necessary, but not doing so caused several other problems. I eventually had to do a system restore, then try again before it would work.
    So far, so good.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus Wireless DOES NOT WORK with Mac Mavericks Based Network

Replaced my Brother system with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus yesterday.  There are many positive features of the 8600 Plus that prompted me to purchase it...
    Modular Design
    Large legal sized Scanner
    Standard/Legal Paper Printer
    Copy
    E Print Capability
High Yield / Affordable Toner Replacements
Unfortunately, I discovered the Wireless network capability is less than desirable.  After hours of installing, reinstalling, work arounds, internet solution searches, it just will not work.  If you are able to get the printer to work on your network (with router), the scanner will not be visible, vice versa, etc...etc...etc...
HOWEVER, I did discover this solution.  If the unit is near your base computer, install it to your computer with a usb connection.  That allows you to have scanning and printing from that unit.  Then you can connect the unit through its ethernet connection to your router.  From there all computers can print within your network.  It's not the best way to connect a WIRELESS printer, but at least it works.
I'm not certain why HP and Apple can't find a solution, but I never found anything on the net that worked.  The problem seems to stem from the new Mavericks update from Apple, but I'm really not sure.  I wasted an entire day of productivity attempting to make it work.  I'm posting this so you don't make the same mistake.  If you happen to know a verified solution, then I would welcome the information.  Best of luck!!!

It may be a mac driver issue. Try installing the bootcamp update for your version of vista from here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
I'm not sure if this is supposed to work since I've never tried mac hardware at 5ghz on windows before...

  • Keeping a Officejet Pro 8600 connected wireless and by ethernet at the same time

I have one computer connected to this printer by ethernet, because the computer is to far away to be connected by usb. Whenever I want to print off of a laptop or tablet the printer won't print unless I physically disconnect the ethernet cable. When someone wants to print from the ethernet connected printer, they have to go back and reconnect the cable. Is there a way to fix this? Because quite honestly its a PAIN. I have had other printers from other manufactures that I was able to do this with. I find it hard to believe that HP would have such a backwards and utterly inconvenient setup.

Welcome to the HP Community @zhadum5000 !
I read through your post and wanted to respond to you. The printer cannot connect to both wireless and ethernet at the same time. You can connect wireless and USB however, you cannot combine both network connections. Your best bet would be to either stick with only ethernet, or only wireless.
I hope this helps answer your question!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 can print but not scan

My printer occasionally stops scanning. it prints fine so I know the connection is good. I tried to scan from the website, and it does so, but then it gives me this frustrating image, telling me to click on the Save icon. Do you see a Save icon anywhere in this picture, because I don't.
I'm using a new MacBook Pro with updated Yosemite OSX 10.10. I've used this setup before to scan, and nothing has changed. Every once in a while I randomly encounter this problem, and then just as randomly it resolves.

Hi @alissas , welcome back to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having scan issues.  I would like to try and help!
From time to time using webscan, you may come across formatting and layout issues.  I would recommend right-clicking the box on the right, that should allow you to save. I am including your picture to help identify that box:
As for the other scan issues, I am including a couple of documents I would suggest running through that should help:
Mac OS X: Scanning Software Does Not Open or Stops Responding
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet...
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer will not recognize my wireless router passwrd

My printer was working fine but when I turned it on today it wouldn't connect to my wireless router. I try inputing the correct password and the printer gives me this message......"the WPA security passphrase configured on your HP printer does not match your wireless router setting" .
I have entered the password several times and I know what I have entered is correct

    Hi @Southglen,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer will not recognize your wireless router password. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this guide, How to Find the WEP or WPA Key or Password for Your Wireless Network, just to double-check your wireless password, in case it might have changed.
I would also suggest a hard reset, by going to this post How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.
After those two steps, I would suggest a firmware update, Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 P....
Let's start with these steps, and we will go from there!

  • I want to share an officejet pro 8600 connected USB to win7 desktop with an xp netbook

    Hello,
I have an officejet pro 8600 connected via usb cable to my win7 desktop.  I want to share/install the printer on a netbook running winxp.   I used to share my previous printer over the win7 workgroup.  The netbook can see the workgroup and the win7 pc, but not the printer.
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, I have gotten further now.  I added the x86 driver, and then manually typed in the \\pcname\printername on the xp netbook.  It asked for a username and password which i thought was strange because password share is not enabled.  anyway, i read on another forum that you can type any username and leave password blank and it will grant access.  and strangely enough it worked.  or so i thought.  the post also said it would not re-grant access upon reboot of the xp machine, so i tried that as well.  well now the printer appears on the xp machine but will not print/open preferences/test print.  so it appears that I am still stymied.
see this post where i got this info.

  • Can the mac air print to HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus Wireless e-All-in-One?

Can the mac air print to HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 plus Wireless e-all-in-one?

AirPrint is an iOS 5 protocol.  It is not used on the Mac or Lion.  What you *can* do is add the wireless printer to you network and print from the mac using that.

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8500 will print but not anything with black ink. It keeps aligning itself.

My Hp Officejet Pro 8500 will print but not anything with black ink - i have checked the black ink cartridge and it is full. Whenever i print anything in colour (only option) the printer goes into an alignment/maintenace loop that lasts for a long time and does not fix the problem. What should I do?

Clean your printerhesd 4-5 times until the black fully restores.  I am on my third complete cleaning and have gone from 0% black to approx. 60-70%.  So, it works just takes time.

  • Wireless Printing to OfficeJet Pro 8600 Connected to Ethernet Network

We have an OfficeJet Pro 8600 that is connected to our home's Ethernet network and would like to print to it from devices such as laptops, phones, and tablets.  Any attempt to turn the printer's wireless capabilities on results in a command to disconnect the Ethernet cable, which we would prefer not to do.
Is there any way to "have our cake and eat it too", retaining the Ethernet connection while having the ability to print wirelessly?  While useful, HP's ePrint doesn't offer the direct-from-application convenience we desire.

  • My HP officejet pro 8600 will print but won't scan wirelessly

My officejet pro 8600 will print and scan with a usb connection. It will also PRINT when connected wirelessly but it doesn't  SCAN wirelessly. Running OS X Yosimit 10.10.2. thanks  John

    Thanks John!
I'm still curious as well, do you get that same error regardless of initiating the scan from the printer or the software?
At this point, I will suggest that you try resetting your printing system (don't re-add the printer just yet) and then perform a verify/repair of your disk permissions. Once those complete, restart your Mac and then add the printer back to the queue.
Try scanning again via the HP software and then the Apple software. Please also ensure you try initiating the scan both from the printer as well as the software and let me know if there is any difference, thanks

  • Officejet Pro 8600 touch screen will not respond

    Hi,
I have the HP Officejet Pro 8600 and the touch pad will not turn on. The power is on! I actualy cannot turn it off by pressing the off button, even when I unplug it and plug it back in it is like it was never unplugged. This all started when I updated my MAC to the new operating system and then I noticed where the paper comes out there were blue blinking lights. I pressed the off button and the lights stopped, but now nothing will respond. This is a wireless printer. Please advise what to do.
    Thank you,
    Tanya (Personal information removed)

    Hello Tanyaward,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the touch pad not responding or lighting up.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Once the printer is connected to a wall outlet, please  attempt to use the power button to turn the unit off and then back on again.  This will do a semi reset on the unit.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus wireless printing dilemma

    Hello,
I recently purchased the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus for my dorm room in college. However, the school requires all devices that want to use its wi-fi to register their IP addresses through detection software in addition to the default log-in information just to use the wi-fi. Now, here are the items I currently have:
    - the printer itself
    - the printer USB cable
    - a few ethernet cables
    - a personal router
    - an ASUS wireless dongle (plugs into PCs via USB, has ethernet port but the device itself can create a hotspot and its own "network")
    - one of the built-in school routers (high up on the wall)
The question is, is there a way I can set up any type of wireless printing in my dorm room? Is it possible to buy two wireless USB attachments that hook up wirelessly to my printer and computer, acting like bluetooth? Thank you!

Range extender improves the signal strength and cover a bigger area, but adds an extra layer of communication so will have slower response. It helps connecting devices far apart, but may cause delay and "loss" of communication, especially "two way" communication which is the problem you are experiencing.

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8600 Premium - wireless home network printing from multiple devices

We have a wireless home network with several desk tops, lap tops and tablets using the network for internet access. There is only one printer in the home, our hp Officejet pro 8600 Premium. Right now everyone who has access to the network can print. We want to prevent printing from specific devices while allowing printing from others. How do I password protect the printer so that only certain devices may print? Or alternatively, remotely prevent devices from printing?

Well this is a little tricky.   You have a 'home' network so we assume you want everyone to print went they want.  If you are talking about 'guest' that come over and use the printer, the best thing is to get a router with a Guest Network which isolates your home network.
That being said there is no 'password' you can put on the printer , however you can add security.
Start/Devices and Printers/ Right click on your printer and select Printer Properties , select the Security Tab.  Now you can set security.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Print Preview is not available

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8600 AIO printer that I purchased last week. I hooked it up to print in a network environment. I have thee window xp systems and three windows 7 systems printing to it with no issues.I am very happy with it. Yesterday my wife told me that when she printed she missed the print preview that our former printer had. I thought I would easily get into the HP 8600 printer program and setup the print preview option. To my surprise after checking in numerous areas and online, I found out that it looks like the option has been left out or not provided for the printer by HP. I realize the MS Office and many other programs have their own print preview however when being online with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, you quickly realize that the option to select the pages you want to print and not print could save alot of wasted paper and ink. Someone please tell me that a print preview software option is in the works for this otherwise great printer! I can not imagine leaving this out of the printing software package provided.

Since HP isn't answering me on the 'Print Preview' being available soon or which HP printers software actally HAVE the 'print preview' function enabled... I did some searching and I found a partial answer to the 'print preview' delema.  The web site http://www.obviousidea.com/windows-software/greencloud-printer/
has a free program called GreenCloudPrinter which, in a nut shell, will install a printer? called GreenCloud which set itself up as the default printer and any file that is sent to the printer gets directed to the GreenCloud device which will then bring up a 'print preview' screen with options to remove blank pages and or print or not print the preview!  And a lot of other functions too.  Works great and it's free.  You do have to register it and a registration code is emailed to you to unlock the program. I hope that helps you out... worked for me.
