My printer was working fine until today.  Then when I used the control panel to scan a page I went through the steps and got to scanning and got the message I needed to enable "Scan to Computer" in the HP Utility.  I went there and it was unchecked.  Seems I had this problem every time I did a new scan job in the past.  It wouldn't retain than check.  So I checked it and after awhile I got the message "Communication Error" and to check my connections and if that didn't work restart my computer and printer.  I did that and also restarted the router but it didn't help.
Then I tried printing from Word, which has always worked but it didn't this time.  The printer icon on the right of the dock came up, bounced a few times then disappeared with nothing happening on the printer.
So I deleted and reinstalled the printer.  No help.  I downloaded and installed HP software and firmware updates.  No help.  I went through wireless setup.  No help
BTW, all along I got good "Wireless Network Test" results.  I says it's connected but nothing happens when I try any functions of the printer.
If I can find a USB cable I will try to see if wired works.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hey @neoflyer,
I would like to assist you today with resolving the wireless printing and scanning issues you're experiencing on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer on your Mac OS X 10.9 Operating System. You mentioned that you have powercycled the devices, reran the wireless setup, and uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers to no avail. I'm going to suggest a few additional troubleshooting steps to verify if this is a computer issue or a network issue.
Step 1: Gather the IP and Open the EWS:
    1. On the screen of your printer select the wireless button:
    2. Under the Wireless information you should see your IP address
    3. Open up your internet browser on your Mac computer and in the website address bar just type in your IP address. Please do not include www.
    4. After you enter your IP address in the website bar go to that website
    5. If the website for your printer opens than that proves with 100% certainty that your printer and computer are 'talking' to each other on your wireless network. If the website fails to open than you have a network communication issue with your router.
If the website fails to open please powercycle your network again:
How to Properly Powercycle a Network:
First, unplug the power cable to your Router
Once your Router is unplugged, turn off your printer
    Next, shut down your computer
After 30 seconds to 1 minutes, plug your Router back in
    Next, turn on your printer
    Turn on the computer
After a few moments check on your computer and ensure that the internet is working. Once it is, hit the wireless button again on the printer to see if your printer got a new IP address. Using the IP address enter it in the address bar of your internet browser and now see if the website for the printer opens.
If the website for the printer opens successfully please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD, and then click Applications.
    Click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
Double-click the HP Uninstaller, and then click Continue.
Select the product to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password, and then click OK.
From the Macintosh HD menu, click Users.
    Click the correct user name.
    Click Library.
    Click Preferences.
Click and hold the cursor on the first file that starts with "HP," and then drag the file to the Trash icon on the taskbar. Complete this step for each file that starts with "HP."
    Close out of Preferences.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
    1. Please click the following link to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.9 drivers for your printer: Mac: HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Drivers
    2. Once downloaded, run through the step by step screens to reinstall your network printer
    3. Once the printer is reinstalled, attempt a print and a scan!
Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. Good luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g won't print from applications from IMac OS 10.7.5

Just had a software update today, now it won't print from applications (Excel, Word, etc).  I've done all the troubleshooting in the exact orders and have also shut everything down, reinstalled, turned off router, etc.  Don't know what else to do.  Prints out printer status report, Wireless network test results shows that no problems found, congratulation on the successful setup of your wireless printer.  IP addresses on wireless and printer are similar.  Looked all over forum, but couldn't find a solution.  Printer is not even 2 months old.  Doesn't make sense.  Seemed to stop  printing after we used the scanner, not sure if that is an issue for any reason.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I cant even connect to the printer on IE, Firefox I get in just fine.
I have it set to only warn of ink when printing so what fix won't work
    I noted my Firmware
    I am on Win 7 64 bit

Are you receiving any error messages when you print from the desktop? Its possible the print spooler is having issues which is not pushing the jobs to the printer. Lets restart the print spooler to get any old jobs that could be stuck in the queue removed.
    1. Press the start orb in the bottom left on the screen.
    2. Click on "Run"
    3. Type "services.msc" (without the quotes)
    4. Locate the Print Spooler service in the right column
    5. Click restart on the service link on the left
After it restarts the spooler go ahead and retry printing. Let me know if this works.

  • Intermittently having issue sending scans to networked directory folder HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g

    Hello All,
    I have a printer installed an AIO HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g which is cappable of scanning either by flatbed or feeder to a networked drive/folder. For the most part this works fine, however 2 times out of 10 it produces the following error;
"Cannot connect to \\'Server details\Folder location path'.  Make sure the remote computer is turned on."
Now I have seen many post about disabling the filewall and other, however none of this type after an install.
Some obvous checks have been made already, Network cable replace, Changing of the destination folder location, and reseting the password for the scanner to auth as well as confirming the permisions. And each time the tests via the web console and physical tests work fine though this doesn't last.
    Could anyone help?
    Thanks

    Hi @Paperjam27
From your description, it sounds like the issue is intermittent. It can sometimes be challenging to identify the root cause of an issue when the problem is not consistent, but I am happy to work with you towards a solution. I suspect the issue might have something to do with the network. I know you said you have tried a new cable and done some troubleshooting already but bear with me here.
When you say you replaced the cable, do you have an Ethernet cable connected between the printer and the router? if not, then I wonder if there is some sort of interference on your wireless connection. Is your router is a dual band router broadcasting both 2.4 and 5.0 frequency? The printer only works on 2.4GHz, maybe this is the root cause.
The channel your router is set to can impact your network consistency too. For example, if you are on channel 11 and others in your area are also on channel 11 or even 9 or 10 it causes congestion on that channel. Think of the channel like a highway or interstate, the more cars on that highway/interstate, the slower you go due to congestion, if you are on a highway with less people are on it, it is more like smooth sailing! You can print a network configuration page to see what channel you are using and see what channel others in your area are no. If the higher channels are most common you might consider changing yours to 1, 2, or 3, and visa versa.  How to: Printing a Network Configuration Page.
has this ben an issue since you have had the printer or did it recently start happening? If this only recently started, can you think of anything that changed recently? Do you have only one access point (router) or do you have a secondary router or extender? Can you think of anything that might be interfering with your network, and do you find the issue occurs more at a certain time of the day than others?
I found on my network at home, I was often seeing delays in response time in the early evening because others are coming home from school and work and 'clogging up the channel', I changed the channel and have had little to no issue since.
Let me know if you think of anything, and post back with the answers to the questions I have posted and I will get back to you. Thanks.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g cannot complete s/w installation on laptop running XP

Initially, successfully installed the 8600 s/w on a Dell D810 laptop running XP which is linked both via Ethernet and wirelessly to the same LAN as the printer.  The printer is wirelessly linked to a port on a WAP device connected to the LAN/router. After setting up the router with DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 addresses, successfully set-up e-Print function thru Verizon high speed internet connection. This confirms that the my LAN and Internet can see the printer connection through the WAP. Guess I should have left well enough alone, but I decided to also install the printer on my desktop, a Dell XPS desktop (also running on XP) that is linked thru a wired Ethernet connection to the same LAN.
The XPS s/w install was flawless and I can print from the desktop and HP e-print functions continue to work on the 8600, but I can no longer print from the laptop.  As I mentioned, the s/w did load successfully  on the laptop when I initially installed the printer. Following a suggestion on HP's website, I uninstalled the HP 3800 s/w in an attempt to reinstall the printer on the laptop. However, I have not been able to successfully reload the s/w on the laptop, despite numerous attempts.. The program can find the printer on the LAN, it always comes up with the same result: "The printer was unable to be installed over the network".  I confirmed that there is no firewall or security setting blocking the s/w load.
As part of my problem resolution, I've also followed the procedures contained in HP Troubleshooting Your Wireless Connection  but still cannot complete the installation process on the laptop. In my latest attempt to resolve the problem,  I marked the 8600 as shared on the XPS desktop system, as suggested in another post, but suspect that would only affect USB-connected printers, not those that are wirelessly connected.
When I downloaded the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility (HPHDU), it also was able to find the printer on the LAN but displayed a message: "We're sorry but the OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g in not supported by this utility".
Can anyone offer a suggestion as to why the 8600 install worked successfully when initially loaded on my laptop but I cannot reload it? That could provide a clue as to what is blocking the reinstallation on the laptop. As I said, the desktop s/w loaded successfully and I can access the 8600's functions from there. Each of the HP utilities I downloaded from HP and have run on the laptop can find the 8600, but none can complete the s/w load so that I can use the printer from the laptop.
The LAN also has an Ethernet link to a HP OfficeJet 7310 that can be accessed from any PC on my network, so I reluctant to entirely remove all HP software so I can at least have one printer operational. I feel like I am on the bleeding edge of technology so any help is appreciated!
    Thanks.

I cannot "Scan to Computer" with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g - The option has been enable in the HP Utility - but I receive a communication error message  - I'm connected to the computer using a Linksys Wireless Router and I am using OS X 10.5.8 - I can print wirelesly and I can use Web Scan, so the connection is good.
How do I resolve the issue?

    petergole,
To make sure we aren't dealing with a software problem lets try to uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
    2. Highlight your device on the left pane
    3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
    4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
    5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Finally, use this guide to reinstall: http://goo.gl/Na4Qm

    Hello @jessescopely,
Welcome back to the HP forums.
I understand that when you try to access the EWS (Embedded Web Server) for your Officejet pro 8600, you are prompted for a username and password.
Unfortunately there is no default username or password.
On rare occasions this can be fixed by restoring the network defaults.
    Go into the Setup menu.
    Select the Network sub menu.
    Choose Restore Network Defaults.
I have also sent you via private message the steps to reset your printer back to factory defaults.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911g new firmware will not install.

My printer: Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
    Current Firmware: CLP1CN1416AR
My problem: Downloaded the latest firmware update (Version CLP1CN1322CR). When I go to install it, my printer shows as listed, but in the STATUS cloumn, it is listed as "Not applicable".
    I turned my printer on/off.
I tried updating via network, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
    I tried updating via USB.
I tried updating via the LCD panel on the printer, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
Is there something wrong as to why this current firmware will not install?
    Thanks for any help.

New Firmware (CLP1CN1416R) was installed automatically (Printer was set for "Auto Update").  Prior to new firmware install,  printer has performed flawlessly...no problems.  Immediately after printer updated it's firmware automatically I began to have multiple problems.
First, it kept asking me to perform an "Alignment" which I dutifully performed only to have message come back that 'Alignment Failed".  Printed sheet looked fine, and printer printed fine but now before any page will print the "Alignment Recommended" message comes up which I have to then override (Click 'Do Not Align' button at bottome of 'Alignment Recommended' message box.  This is getting really OLD!!  Simply unacceptable for a business class printer!!
Also, the printer randomly has started giving other messages such as "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" AND "Cartridges are Missing" ("when I've just recently put in new catridges and levels are OK!!) AND "Paper Jam" (when there is no jam!!)
None of these problems have occurred prior to the automatic firmware update.  I believe the reason HP hasn't posted the new firmware update to their Customer Service website is that they know there are bugs in it and don't want to compound the problems the new version has already created.  I seriously question why an automatic updating of firmware was done with equipment set to "Auto Update" and yet that same new firmware is not available to those who might have had their printers set for "Manual Update".
HP Customer Service - You need to issue a statement from the company as to what has happened with this firmware update.  If there are problems, take responsibility for it and make it right.  HP knows who it sent out auto updates to.  These printer owners should be immediately notified and the situation made right.  It is not real assuring to have your front line staff not know why the new firmware is not on the website.  I do not like the idea of having to pay for a Support Call when the problems with my out of warranty printer are directly tied to the Auto Updating of said printer with apparently defective firmware.
I'd really appreciate a response back from someone in HP Customer Service.

You can try to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  IF the Doctor finds an issue, it will troubleshoot it for you.  If the Doctor comes back with no issues, this could be an issue with the version of Internet Explorer you are using and this is why it works with Chrome.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Google cloud print for officejet pro 8600 - could not get printer information from hp.

I just purchased a new OfficeJet Pro 8600 today. Everything seems to work great except for the connector to Google Cloud Print. I can print from AirPrint, as well as emails to the hpeprint.com address, but when I try to register via the google site, I receive the "could not get printer information from HP" error message.
The printer is connected via wireless ethernet, and seems to work find otherwise. I have no restrictions on who can send print jobs, and I have changed the email address for hpeprint.com a few times, as suggested in other forum threads, but it can never connect to the the Cloud Print service. I am at the latest firmware level listed on the HP website. I have tried to initiate the connection from multiple PC's as well as multiple web browsers.
This was a big factor in purchasing this printer. Help anyone?

Hey rch33k, I am sorry for the ongoing issue that you are having accessing Google Cloud Print. This is being looked into as this is not a singular issue and is affecting other customers as well.  Engineers are currently investing this problem to try and provide a solution to it.  I want to again apologize and thank you all for your patience in this matter.  They only other thing to attempt at this time is to contact Google for further assistance to see if anything can be done on their end. Hopefully this will be fixed quickly

  • Hp officejet pro 8600 all in one prints but won't scan

I have recently moved house and changed my wireless router from BT to Virgin.
    I am running OS X 10.9.5
I am able to print from my mac without issue, however, it has stopped scanning. I have managed to get it to work twice on isolated instances but it won't work consistently.
I have unistalled the software and reinstalled via the HP download page but when I open HP Scan and click scan it asks me to choose which scanner - mine is selected, it then says preparing to scan and it does that for ages until it says it can't get a connection.
My printe r is a HP Officejet Pro 8600 All-in-one N911g - I am not bothered that much about scanning from the printer to the computer (I have tried to enable this option and it won't let me) I just want to be able to open HP Scan and press scan and it scan on my computer.
Any advice appreciated - thank you

Hi there @Steph390 , welcome to the forums!
I have some suggestions for you to hopefully correct the scanning issue you are having. Please feel free to reply back and let me know the results!
    1. Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer.
    2. Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    3. Repair disk permissions
    4. Restart your computer.
    5. Re-add the printer
Once the printer is connected on the network, follow these steps to maintain the wireless connection, normally a static IP will help out quite a bit: Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection
    Good luck to you

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium won't print wirelessly

Ok, I have been having this problem for about a month now and cannot seem to fix it.
I have an Officejet 8600 Pro Premium that I recently bought for my business to replace my old 6500. I love the printer so far but there is one problem that is extremely aggravating. Currently I have three computers connected to the printer, two running XP and one running windows 7. The ones running XP have no issues what so ever, but every few days the one running windows 7 just stops printing. In control panel I can still see the printer but the documents just sit in the print que. Same for when I try to print a test page through HPs software. The only way to get it to print again is to unistall the drivers and reinstall. Then it will print for a few days and then stop again. I don't know why this is happening only to the machine running windows 7 and not XP.
Also, whenever I try to setup e-print from the printer I get an error message saying "Unalbe to Connect: The printer could not connect to the server." I am not running a proxy or anything like that, and I'm not sure if these two problems are related.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: Also I have ink alerts set only for when I print and scan to computer is disabled.

I have the same problem.  I have the officejet pro 8600 plus connected to a wireless toshiba laptop running Windows 7 64 without any issue ever. It is perfect.  I bought another officejet pro 6600 premium and connected it wirelessly to a HP Elite desktop at my other house.  It works great for a few days then the computer can't find the printer.  The printer shows the computer on the screen and has a blue wireless signal lit up. The only way to fix this is to reinstall the software which works great for a few days and then the same problem occurs.  This has happened several times since I purchased it 2 months ago.  I am a realtor and this is a huge inconvenience when I need to print things out for my appointments but have to re install the programs to do so.
    Any suggestions please?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g Scan to gmail with 2-step verification

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8600 N911g printer which is a replacement for another one. I am using gmail. I am seting up the Scan to E-mail. I put in all the required information asked by the wizard and when I test it, it comes back with "Incorrect credentials".  My gmail has a two step verification process where it will send a code to my mobil device. I remember setting the Outgoing E-mail profiles up on the previous printer before the replacement but I cannot remember how I got the "scan to E-mail" to work using the 2-step gmail verification.
Looking at another post about gmail I even click on the "Network" tab and changed the IPv4 DNS server settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
I checked and tested my gmail/Google to make sure that my gmail 2-step verification is working correctly.

Scan to email allow you to take a document that you have and send it wherever you want to send it as long as you have someone's email or you can send the document to your email.
Here is the solution to the 2-step verification with google's email.
Get into your google email. Click on your picture or name in the right-hand corner and click "Account". On the "Signing In" box click on "2-step verification". From there go to the App-Specific passwords tab.  Click "manage application specific passwords".  At the bottom chose mail, select device and then generate.  Follow the prompts and guidelines from that point.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not print from my MacAir

I have used my MacAir to print on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus for about 5 months without any problems.  All of a sudden my printer will not print.  The wireless icon says it's connected to the network.  But when I click print it says "looking for air printer" and then "printer not connected".  I've repeated the Wizard Set Up for the wireless connection.  I've turned the printer and computer on and off.  I've even tried printing from my iPhone but it will not find the printer anymore.  Please help!

    Hello @ladybonds ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
You are saying that you have been printing fine from your computer for 5 months and now your printer says it is connected to the network and your computer says that it isn't.
Have you recently upgraded to Yosemite the new Apple OS? If not what OS X are you using?
Are you sure that the printer and your devices are on the same network?
Does the router give your printer an I.P address?
Let me know these answers and we can go from there.
