Hp Officejet Pro 8600 on Windows 8.1 driver not installed

Using Windows 8.1 and HP Officejet pro 8600.  The printer is installed on a wireless network.  But on Device Manager, it says "driver not installed".   Most printing tasks are successful, but for some I need to have the driver installed on the computer.  I have tried troubleshooting, but am unsuccessful.  I would appreciate help.  Thanks

Hi emax,
Print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address. Printing a Network Configuration Page.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
If it loads the printer's network page then the printer is on the network.
Power cycle the router, computer and printer.
Try printing again.
If the issue persists, add a new device if the IP address is valid.
Right-click the Start button () or the lower left corner of the screen, and then click Search.
In the Search box, type HP, and then click the icon for your printer. The printer software opens.
Click Utilities, and then click Printer Setup & Software Selection.
Click Connect a new printer.
Test the printer over the wireless network.
Please provide the following information so I can assist you better.
What is the printer's first 3 sets of numbers for the IPV4 address?
Could you access the printer's EWS?
Were you able to add a new device?
Thank You.

Why when printing duplex with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer it causes windows 7( 64-bit) to shut down/restart. Windows message is "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.  I've ran HP Hardward Diag. Utility and Print and Scan Doctor which indicated everything is working properly with the printer.  Ocassionaly I can print duplex without windows shutting down and restarting, but most of the time it creates issue with Windows causing it to stop and restart.  Single sided printing seems to be fine.  I've already oncehad windows to "Startup Repair" in which ccase I selected restore to a previous working point.  Everything worked for awhile then a duplex printing session starting causing windows to shut down again.   THanks for your assistance.

Yes, the updated USB 3.0 driver corrects the issue and should be installed.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Printer is on Network but not Discoverable with Typical Discovery Method

    Hi all.
I need help! I have fought with this printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600) for about an hour. The error message I get says that the printer is on my network but is not discoverable using the typical network discovery method. I can set it up using the IP address (and will), but we frequently reset the router, and I don't want to deal with the printer everytime I do this. I figured it was something with the Windows firewall. I temporarily disabled it and tried again - nothing different. I am also running AVG free edition, but it does not have a firewall. Any help is appreciated! Forgot to add... I'm running Windows 7.

    Hi Kelly,
The printer should be able to reconnect to the router by itself after the router is reset.  Why do you have to reset the router?  It might be part of the issue with the printer.
There are multiple ways for the software to discover the printer.  There could be a setting in the router or even software services in the computer that are causing the normal methods to not work.
After you reset the router, does the printer not reconnect?  The blue wireless light would continually blink if the printer cannot reconnect to the router after the reset.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus will print wirelessly but not scan

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus all in one printer/copier/scanner. It's worked fine for the several months I have had it. But now suddently the computer does not recognize the scanner. I am connected to the device wirelessly and can print but not scan. I haven't been able to figure out why the comptuer recognizes the printer but not the scanner. I uninstalled and reinstalled the device but still no success.
Any ideas how I can get the computer to recognize the scanner? I am running Windows 8. Have not updated to 8.1.

Hello Sarah1234, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scanning issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend powering off your printer and computer.  Once they are both down, I would recommend unplugging the power from your wireless router for 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.  Once it has begun broadcasting again, power on your printer and computer.
I would also recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Once you have launched the tool, select the 'fix scanning' option.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a - Print when Fax is Not Saved

Can I make it so a fax is printed when it's not saved? I know I can set it to print and save every time, but I rely on HP Digital Fax to save paper. If a fax is not saved, either due to a network error or if the computer that it usually saves to is shut off, can the fax just be printed?

, it's nice to meet you. I think I found something that may help with your faxing dilemma. This information was in the User Guide for the Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a; pg 69. Set up backup fax Depending on your preference and security requirements, you can set up the printer to store all the faxes it receives, only the faxes it receives while the printer is in an error condition, or none of the faxes it receives. The following backup fax modes are available:On > The default setting. When Backup fax is On, the printer stores all received faxes in memory. This enables you to reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes if they are still saved in memory. NOTE: When printer memory is low, it overwrites the oldest, printed faxes as it receives new faxes. If the memory becomes full of unprinted faxes, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If you receive a fax that is too large, such as a very detailed color photo, it might not be stored in memory due to memory limitations.
On Error Only > Causes the printer to store faxes in memory only if an error condition exists that prevents the printer from printing the faxes (for example, if the printer runs out of paper). The printer continues to store incoming faxes as long as there is memory available. (If the memory becomes full, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls.) When the error condition is resolved, the faxes stored in memory print automatically, and then they are deleted from memory.
Off > Faxes are never stored in memory. For example, you might want to turn off Backup fax for security purposes. If an error condition occurs that prevents the printer from printing (for example, the printer runs out of paper), the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If backup fax is enabled and you turn the printer off, all faxes stored in memory are deleted, including any unprinted faxes that you might have received while the printer was in an error condition. You must contact the senders to ask them to resend any unprinted faxes. For a list of the faxes you have received, print the Fax Log. The Fax Log is not deleted when the printer is turned off. To set backup fax from the printer control panel 1. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.2. Touch Fax Setup, and then select Advanced Fax Setup.3. Touch Backup Fax Reception.4. Touch On, On Error Only, or Off. Reprint received faxes from memoryIf you set the Backup fax mode to On, the received faxes are stored in memory, whether the printer has an error condition or not. NOTE: After the memory becomes full, the oldest, printed faxes are overwritten as new faxes are received. If all the stored faxes are unprinted, the printer does not receive any fax calls until you print or delete the faxes from memory. You might also want to delete the faxes in memory for security or privacy purposes. Depending on the sizes of the faxes in memory, you can reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes, if they are still in memory. For example, you might need to reprint your faxes if you lost the copy of your last printout. To reprint faxes in memory from the printer control panel 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the main tray.2. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.3. Touch Tools or Fax Tools, and then select Reprint Faxes in Memory. The faxes are printed in the reverse order from which they were received with the most recently received fax printed first, and so on.4. If you want to stop reprinting the faxes in memory, touch the Cancel button.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • Driver Issues with HP Officejet Pro 8600 and Windows 8

I have to reinstall the printer driver for my HP Office Jet Pro 8600 wireless printer each time I power up my laptop. I do not have any issues with this printer when using my PCs and my antroid tablet.  Once the driver is reinstalled I can print my documents however it becomes "offline" whenever I log off and then log back onto my laptop.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Shrn
I read your post about how your printer will disconnect and show offline on your laptop, each time the computer is restarted. As this only happens on your laptop, the problem could be with a firewall running on your computer.
I would suggest checking your firewall settings and ensure you're allowing the printer to connect within the firewall.
This link may help: How to Edit Firewall Settings
You could also try running the Print and Scan Doctor when you restart your computer to see if this tool will pick up the printer on the network and connect it to your computer again.
Another option, would be to try a Clean Boot, which will turn off all Start Up Programs on your laptop to see if another program could be blocking the printer from connecting to it during a restart. Make sure to go back and enable the programs again after you have tested this out.
Let me know your findings and what happens!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Windows 8.1 upgrade, Printer Assistant no longer available

Hi, have recently upgraded my operating system from windows 8 to windows 8.1.
Once this upgrade completed, my printer assistant could no longer find the printer.
I un-installed the program, and re-installed the full driver version off the HP website, but after install, i still do not have a printer assistant. I can print, but have no other functions.
If i go into My Computer Printers and Devices, double click on the printer, i am still only given 3 options: 'See whats Printing', 'Customise your printer' and 'Set preferences'. There is no option for 'Printer Assistant'.
I have tried the un-install, install option a couple of times now...and no difference.
Am i ever going to be able to communicate with my printer and scan etc, etc, ever again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, are you referring to the printers status within your ePrintCenter account, as in the image below? The printer dropping the connection to the local WiFi network or a problem with your internet access point (router) maintaining a reliable connection to the internet could be possible causes for what you're seeing. Check out this support document for some possible solutions to the problem of the printer not maintaining its wireless connection  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02817031&cc=ie&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5058336&tmp...

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 - will print wirelessly but not scan on Windows 8.1. HP PC

    Hello,
my HP printer and HP computer have been working perfectly but now all of a sudden I cannot scan anymore from my printer to my computer. I can print and scan the other way around and the wireless network works. I am just a regular user and don't feel sure about how to uninstall and re-install programs, so I would be very happy if you had just a simple fix
I already tried closing down everything and unplugging the router, then plugging the router and turning everything on again but it didn't help.

    Hi @gabmus,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you can print but not scan wirelessly with your HP Officejet pro 8600 on Windows 8.1. I am happy to help you with your scanning issue!
To verify the printer's hardware is working, are you able to make copies with the printer? Copying a Multipage Original.
In the meantime, please go through the steps in this scanning guide, A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet....
Hope this helps, and have a great day!

  • Windows 7 / HP OfficeJet Pro 8600: Unsuccessful Network Installation

    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 8600
My goal is to enable the "Scan to Computer" feature of my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 on Windows 7, which doesn't find my computer when I try to use it from the printer's front panel touchscreen. The printer's connected to my local wifi network.
In the setup program on the included CD, I've opted NOT to install any software aside from the "HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Basic Device Software", which installs fine. I also opt NOT to install the "ePrint" web services or allow it to connect to the network for updates or share usage statistics or any of that.
During the setup program, the "Network Check" correctly finds the printer on my local wifi network, but the following "Network Printer Installation" part always fails, resulting in "Unsuccessful Network Installation", no other details. The result is the same if I retry with Microsoft Security Essentials' "Real-time protection" off, or with Windows Firewall off. No other anti-virus is running.
The "HP Scan" program fails immediately with the error message "The HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 was not found."
Under Control Panel > "Devices and Printers" I see an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. Windows installs and prints with this printer just fine without the provided CD.
Under Control Panel > "Device Manager" the printer is NOT listed under "Imaging Devices".
My Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running.
    Any clues?
    This question was solved.

(I never managed to solve this, how did this get marked "Solved?")
I'd be happy with either means of starting a scan. Here are some things I've tried since my last post (sorry, I gave up on this for 2 months and am now trying to get it working again):
I've got the printer connected by USB as well as on the network, and running the software installer with the USB connection option just gets stuck forever at the "Connect the USB Cable" screen. The USB cable is connected.
Under "Scanner Actions" on the HP Printer Assistant application, clicking "Manage Scan to Computer" reports: "Scan to Computer is enabled. You can start a scan from the printer. Your computer is not listed as an available computer on the printer's control panel. Please restart your printer and try again." Tried restarting/unplugging the printer, but that doesn't change anything.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor's first screen reports the State as "Installed" for USB and "Not Installed" for the network. It returns these results for the various steps of "Fix Scanning":
    Device Manager: Pass
Driver check: Fail ("The Scan driver is unable to communicate with the product.")
Windows (WIA) scan: Fail (no information given, other than instructions to reboot)
HP Twain scan: Fail ("Scanner communication cannot be established..." dialog)
    Registry: Pass
    HP Scan: Pass
Since my last post I've also updated the printer's firmware, which seemed to work fine. It's now on firmware version CLP1CN1304AR.
The Windows event log reports several warnings from the software installer saying "Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0" with Event ID 1015, is this important? Tried it again with Windows Firewall off for both public and private networks, no difference.

  • "No Scanners Found" HP Officejet Pro 8600

I print and scan using wifi on my laptop. I've used an Officejet Pro 8600 with Windows 7 64bit Home Premium  for at least a year and it has been scanning perfectly fine using the Windows "Fax and Scan" utility until recently.  Now when I go to scan I click on "New Scan" and it says no scanners found.  I can scan from the printer panel to a usb flash drive inserted into the printer.  I can print fine from my laptop just not scan.
After experiencing the problem I uninstalled the HP 8600 software with Windows "Programs & Installs".
I tried reinstalling the HP software using the online HP assistant but it wouldn't install (when I clicked on the link for the assistant it said it was unable to find the page I wanted).
I was able to download and run the software from the HP website but it never installed...when I clicked on "Run" to install the software nothing happend, I tried a few times.  I don't see the printer software listed in my programs or the Windows "Programs & Installs.
I am still able to print, I guess it is using a generic Windows driver.
Another aside, I do not see the printer in Windows "Device manager".
So, now I am faced with a couple problems:
    1. HP drivers won't install
    2. I cannot scan from laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
