Hp officejet pro 8600 plus, document feed tray, I get streaks on copies.

When I copy from the document feed tray, I get streaks down the centr of the paper, I cleaned the printheads, and cleaned the rollers, I don't get the streak down the center anymore, but I still get a line down the right side of the paper. What other steps can I take?

Hi there, Here are the steps for your issues: 1) Close down the scanner lid2) Power down the printer3) With the scanner lid still close, power up your unit4) Feed a paper through the feeder and do a copy job5) Place the printed page on your feeder glass, check on the location of the vertical line with respect to your feeder glass. Check if there is any stain or dust on that area, and use a cloth to wipe it off. Using a torch light would help you in finding the stain/ dust.6) Perform another copy via the feeder. Let me know if this helps

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. No automatic scan menu when documents loaded into the auto feeder?

I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus to replace the L7780 which brought up the scan menu when a document was loaded into the autofeeder.  How do I get the ne 8600 to do the same thing.  I find that I liked the convenience of the auto menu but it does not come up when I load document(s) to be scanned into the auto feeder.  Was this feature left off?

    Hi afredb,
I understand you have a new Officejet 8600 Plus and have some questions about the scan feature in comparison to the Officejet L7780. I will certainly do my best to answer these questions for you.
In testing on our own Officejet 8600, I have found that you would be correct, this is a feature that wasn't transferred to the upgraded machines after they stopped making the L7780. There were a few printers in between the L7780 and the 8600, and they didn't have that feature either. I believe the reasoning behind it was that many people use these printers for copying and faxing as well so having the feeder automatically assume it's going to be scanning would have created extra steps for many others. Hopefully this is only a minor inconvenience and you can still enjoy the printer
Hope this helps, have a great day!

  • Unable to Completely Scan Legal Size Documents with Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

I am trying scan legal sized documents on my new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. I have reviewed the forums, and this has been a recurring problem in the past (see link---  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/Scanning-Legal-Size-Documents/m-p/35416#M14...   ), but does not appear to be resolved. Whether I use the document feeder or the glass, the document is cut off at the bottom, and appears to be stopping at the 'A4' size, vs. legal. I cannot locate any setting on the scanner itself, or in the HP Utility software to change this, or even to be able to identify the current setting, if it is one.
I am using a Mac Pro, system 10.6.8, just installed and started using the printer a couple of days ago, and everything is up to date software-wise. Everything else on this machine has been working beautifully.
Can anyone identify what's going on here and how to correct it?
Thanks for your help--I specifically chose this particular unit over the next model down due to the legal sized glass/bed, and if I can't use it to scan legal docs, well, that's a problem. Thanks for your help!

    1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.
    2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".
    3. Click the "Scan Tasks" tab.
    4. Select the Scan Shortcut used to scan, then click Edit.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus ...paper TRAY wont close all the way?

My Officejet Pro 8600 Plus paper tray will not return to the proper position. This has happened TWICE now, and always about 3 weeks into using it...
I returned the first printer and replaced it with the same because we love the features and ease of use. But now,  AGAIN??
I tried printing with it hanging out this time..it will print, but ....COME ON!  It makes it real hard to pull out the tray that my paper lays on after printing!
I called HP support the first time, he couldnt help me. Just said replace it.  There has to be something I can do a button or something?  I cant see it..does anyone else know?

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus output tray miss-installed

The output tray on my new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is partially miss-installed.  There is a clip on each side of the underside of the output tray which is supposed to engage tips on each side of the frame for the paper tray.  Apparently, when the output tray on my unit was installed at the factory, the clip on the left side ended up above the tip which it is supposed to engage.  This leaves the output tray slightly tipped to the right and results in output pages not stacking as neatly as they should.  This could be easily corrected if someone would tell me how to disengage the output tray from the body of the printer.  It's been working fine, I don't really want to have to take it back for an exchange just to correct what could be easily fixed by removing the tray and pushing it back on carefully while engaging both clips.

  • Where do scanned documents go I have a hp officejet pro 8600 plus

Where do scanned documents go?  I scan from the printer to the computer, it says it was scanned and sent but to where? how do you scan into an email?

When you scan to PC they go to your Documents folder. Mine saves in a  folder in Documents named Scans, or possibly Scanned documents. I am using a new machine which has not received any scanned files so I can't remember the exact name but it is usually easy to identify once you open up your Documents folder.
To scan to email you will need to use the printer software installed on the PC to set it up.The document here should help:

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - Squeals while scanning

My OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus squeals very loudly while it is automatically feeding paper through to scan the document to a PDF.  How do I stop the annoying squeals??  It does NOT squeal while it's printing ... so I'm assuming it has to do with the feeder tray and the rollers associated there ... maybe??

    Hey @DEP001,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum!  I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer's ADF has become quite noisy.  I would like to assist you with this and may have the steps you need to resolve that issue.
The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues and quality issues.
Secondly, I recommend you try the following:
    Clean the ADF
Rollers are used to feed paper into the scanner, while the separator pad prevents multiple pages from feeding at the same time. If the rollers or separator pad are dirty, the ADF might not feed the paper correctly. Follow these steps to clean the ADF mechanism.
    Open the ADF cover.
Figure : Open the ADF cover (Officejet Pro 8600)
Figure : Open the ADF cover (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and Premium)
Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.
Use the damp cloth to clean any residue or dust from the pick rollers and the separator pad.
Figure : Clean the ADF (Officejet Pro 8600)
    ADF cover
    Rollers
    Separator pad
Figure : Clean the ADF (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and Premium)

    Rollers
    Separator pad
    Firmly close the ADF cover.
Try to print from the ADF again.

Lastly, after you've cleaned the ADF, try a 'hard reset':
Let me know if this helps alleviate the squealing sound when using the ADF.
    Have a great day!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?

@Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
@Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it.
Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size.
This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?

  • Macbook Pro running Maverick doesn't recognize Officejet Pro 8600 Plus as a scanner

I am a new user to the Macbook, transitioning from Windows. I started with a preexisting Offciejet Pro 8500 but couldn't get it to work and discovered there were no Maverick drivers. I then bought and  installed the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus wirelessly. I downloaded the HP software package for Mac. I can print. I can scan from the printer to the computer. I can use the HP Scan utility (although the HP apps folder also contains the 8500 apps and I'm not sure which is which). However, under System Preferences Printers and Scanners it only lists the 8600 as a printer and faxer; it does not appear under Scanner. And I cannot access it using PDF Converter for Mac, either.  And it refuses to scan an entire legal page, stopping at the letter page limits, whether I use the document feeder or just place it on the glass.
( I also cannot figure out how to set up Network scanning - it asks for a folder address and I am not familiar with iOS nomenclature.)

  • OSX 10.8.5 CS5.5 & HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

I bought the HP Officejet Pro 8600 plus believeing it is MAC OSX compatable however upon trying to scan into Adobe CS5.5 suite of applications I was not able to scan into any of the Adobe CS programs. I can scan from the scanner into a PDF that the HP printer makes and place it in a folder on my computer but I cannot Scan directly into Adobe Acrobat X or any of the CS5.5 programs.
After a few hrs of searching I found on the user manual on page 50 the following
"The HP Scanning Software does not support TWAIN and WIA scanning on
    computers running Mac OS X."
I need to know if this issue has been resolved and if so what is the solution or workaround to scan directly into Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign or any of the other Adobe CS5.5 master suite collection.
From what I have read it seems that there are two issues here
1 most programs are moving away from twain and WIA in favor of something else forget what it is and HP moved on but did not consider backward compatability important so they didn't include what is needed.
    2. Adobe could use a patch for this other format
If there is no current solution I will return the MFP (multi-function printer) and look for a replacement. I would appreciate any reccomendations from the community for an MFP that works pain free with Adobe CS5.5 and Mac OSX.
Looking for high quality scan with document feeder and flatbed, photo print capability does not need to fax.
    Thank you your assistance.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus losing wireless connectivity, cannot scan to computer

In our office, we have roughly 4 computers using the HP Officeject Pro 8600 Plus, all of which are connected wirelessly. The printer was previously connected to the internet wirelessly with no problems. A couple of days ago however our computers started randomly disconnecting. The printing function would work for a bit, then disconnect. I found the only solution to this problem was to hit the button on our wireless router that resends the wireless signal out for connectivity.
We hardwired the printer with an ethernet cable and I myself didn't see any further problems regarding connectivity but a couple of the other computers had spotty connections.  Again, each time this can be remedied by hitting the button on the wireless router.
Today  however we had an additional problem, after trying to scan a document through the automatic document feeder, the printer said it was jammed (although it wasnt). When we went to rescan, the scan to computer function was no longer working. I can scan by hitting the scan button on my HP Printer Assitant interface, and I can also scan to email, but cannot scan to computer.
I have gone through several forums and haven't been able to find a solution. I personally use Windows 8, but other people in our office are using older versions of Windows. We've tried unplugging, restarting, hardwiring, resetting wireless settings, uninstalling, etc. etc. Before a few days ago the pritner was working fine for a number of months.
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thin horizontal black line at BOTTOM of page when scan on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

I owned an HP Officejet Pro 8500 and scanning was perfect.  I recently purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
When I scan from the HP 8600 auto document feeder, I get a thin (several pixel wide) black line along the bottom edge of the resulting scan.  This line will sometimes be slighly crooked or only appear across half the page, in which case it tends to get thicker toward the edge of the page).  I believe this line is an artifact from scanning the very bottom edge of the oroginal document.  I think it is showing where the bottom edge of the page was when scanned.  If the document is a little skewed, then the black line at the bottom will be a little crooked, probably following the edge of the page.  This problem is consistent, and repeatable.  It happens in both "Scan To E-mail" mode and "Scan To Network Folder" mode.
When I scan from the flat bed, I get a very narrow black line along the very top edge of the resulting scan, but the bottom appears fine (although I've not tested this extensively).
These thin black lines did not occur when scanning from the HP 8500.
I am wondering if there is a setting to adjust this, or if it is a firmware difference between printers that needs debugging.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I find it interesting that the issue happens across both printers.  This is what leads me to believe this is something with the software/connection with the PC.  One thing I will note is that you mentioned above using Adobe Reader 10.1.6.  The latest version of Adobe Reader is 11.0.02.  I would advise removing your current version of Adobe Reader and install the latest version.
I am not sure if this will fix the issue as you mentioned the line comes across in jpeg and other scanning styles.  Do you possibly have another PC you could try setting up a connection with quickly and attempting a scan?  This would be another way to ensure if the issue is coming from the printer or a connection/software issue.
I would like to make sure the issue is coming from the scanners on these printers before returning the printers as I would hate for you to get another model printer and the issue remain with this printer as well.  However, I will note that the Laserjet Pro 200 is a nice series printer from my experience.  I have used the Laserjet Pro 200 black and white only edition, the MFP, and the TopShot edition where I am located.

  • Printing custom sizes on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus from Macbook Pro

I am having trouble setting up a Word Document (Word for Mac 2011) to print in a custom size on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I'm using a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.
I would like to print on a card stock that is 4.5 in x 13.5 in.  I have tried under Page Setup to create a custom size under Manage Custom sizes, however, I'm hitting a brick wall.  The printer gets the job but can not feed the paper.  I've also tried to set my default paper size under my System Preferences/Printers and Scanners to be this size...still not working.
    Please help!

    Hi @klinecard
It is important to ensure the paper size you are selecting is a supported size, and make sure the weight is supported too.
Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printer Series
    Please look under paper handling.
If your desired size and weight is supported, you might find the following helpful; Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X
Truthfully, since you are not getting an error message, I suspect you have correctly setup the custom size, this issue is most likely the printers inability to feed the paper you are using.
